• Megaman X4 X vs Double
In addition to Double's speed, this one also modifies Double's voice.

Makimachi is a renowned X series player in Chinese circles.
As stated, IIRC, it was one of his post that mentioned the possiblility to fight Double using Zero.
It was done on PS, though from the tone of the post I feel it's just a demonstration.
(If my memory isn't failing, by default, none of Zero's attack can hurt Double)
It is after that post that I began to set out to make it happen on PC.
And I was determined to make this fight actually playable.(Able to hurt Double.) This is the result.
My experiment on assembly with CheatEngine.
All sort of modifications, trial and errors, took me about a month.
The goal was :
A)Make it possible to fight Double using Zero.
B)Make Double as difficult to beat as possible, but not entirely impossible.

This is how a real fight against double would look like.
The real deal of "evil slash" is that, unless you have very good reflexes: he will cut you in half within the first 5 seconds.

how about x vs iris?
I tried to hack that but eventually just felt too tired of it. I just didn't have enough motivation. Cf. Accel Rider X's comment at the bottom.
Iris is a fight heavily reliant on trying to take down all of those little drones she spits out. This is easy as Zero with how wide his saber is, but considering that they approach rather fast and are quite small, fighting Iris as X seems like it would just be a nightmare; it would be very difficult in a way that's not a lot of fun.
Well, you can always try Nova Strike, that thing can take care of pretty much anything that's not spikes.
Yeah, but that runs out and there's the possibility you just didn't have in the first place.
This version of Double seems to still be beatable with just Zero's normal equipment, even if it is extremely difficult, but even a totally unedited Iris would be nearly impossible as X, even with the Nova Strike. I will admit, however, that the Plasma charge shot would do wonders, but again it's possible the player won't even have it.
I would love for that to come to fruition!

it's possible?
I have tried to do that when I was working on this but ultimately I did not have much motivation to achieve it. (Doing this involved tracing assembly and trial and error, so yeah, basically I gave up)
Also in theory it wouldn't be as much fun, because Iris's does not have much moving pattern, her battle was mostly about keeping you busy smashing buttons to fend off endless drones (which is rather lazy/poor boss design I have to say.)
Zero in memory hall, change x for zero, works in ps1 and pc.
Also save at memory the battle.
I'm pretty sure that I can't beat him even with 3 E-Tanks full.. 😂
Would kill to have a modified version of X4 with EX versions of all of the bosses from the start, including the intro boss.
Ya would be pretty cool. IIRC, this kind of hack needs to be done boss by boss and I just didn't have much motivation for most of them. I did try similar things on Sigma 2 but just couldn't make it to work so I gave up. Really what I find genuine fun (or "fights that are cool") from X4 is only this fight and the fight with Colonel, and that was the 2 bosses I did managed to hack. (No video for Colonel, sorry. Basically he has little to none attack delays like this one, giving no response time when he vanish-slashes you in the face and stuff like that.)

I didn't like his laughs but otherwise I think they(the voices in English) are OK-ish, hence I just leave them be.

I did made a brief attempt on that, but I don't really like this Iris character myself, and ultimately just didn't have that much energy to make it happen.

Lately I've been trying to reproduce a playable Zero vs Double fight, but to no success, and was hoping you could clue me in
Do you happen to remember how this was achieved?
I'm not particularly interested in making him harder, I just want him to be fightable
I attempted to replace the player character with their opposite counterpart after the fight started, but that usually resulted in a crash
The closest I got was replacing enemy data with Double's ID and such, which would spawn him in and allow him to fight you
But this would obviously result in the game never loading any data related to him, graphics and sounds, so he'd be invisible and mute
There's of course the issue of not being able to hurt him as Zero, but you documented that well and I was able to get it working
If you can recall anything please let me know, anything that could point me in the right direction is highly appreciated!

I hated the dub so much, I have gone as far as obtaining an Japanese X4 copy. He is saying, "Evil Slash", in both versions.
Another variation which i will not write here has been sitting in a so called "wiki" for about 20 years. So much for a wiki.

About damaging Double, I'll have to check if I have that code separated. I know nothing other than scan/change value, so my cheat table is a mess. IIRC it's just writing a NOP where damage is checked...

@@ytrfamli ok thank you. I found it, and it worked. Now... I just noticed, in your video you are able to switch between Kuuenbu (the spinning jump slash) and a regular jump slash. Any help on that?
@@ekkuseu3164 Sorry, I could not find mod entries of it from the mess of my cheat table, either it's buried somewhere, or I just did not keep it. It was just an accident discovery, causing normal slash when rising airborne, and rolling slash when falling, not something significant (actually I'd rather disable rolling slash entirely).

A recent event (involving a comic artist around last month, i.e. Feb 2023) has me thinking. The statement "Oh you must love X5/X6" IS essentially what the person in question would call "mind-reading", and not even in good faith. I have thus removed the conversation.
I am in my own super minority camp where only X1~X3 is canon, and left the franchise and "fanbase" around 2012.
Maybe you dislike those (who like X5 etc)? Whatever, just don't lump me in with them.

Quick rundown:
To me many villians in various media are underdogs.
I do not prescribe to the milquetoast idea that permeates so many works of fiction
"1.Hero good. 2. Villian bad. 3.Hero saves the day, yay."
(This is prevalent even in the early 2000s)
This hack is simply an appreciation of Double. Player died repeatedly? Good. That's what I want.
But there IS a pattern where you can (almost) avoid his attack. So the classic "observe the pattern to win" still applies.
If I make Double's saw/drone (they pop out if you use cyclone) fill the room, and make them damage sponges, then you can say "Oh look, here's an X6 lover". But I did not.
Hope this settles further disputes.
