My dad worked as a prop maker on these movies. Can't watch a single one with him without the mandatory " ohhh we made that at the shop...oh and that" lol

I was an extra in two of these movies. During the third one I watched a prop guy put the finishing touches on the Pirate's Code. I asked if the words on the cover ("Pirata Codex") were in Latin. He said they were and I said that Latin - like Spanish - has the modifiers after the subject so it should have said, "Codex Pirata". He looked at me for a second then said, "Go away."
That would be awesome if that was your dad!

The guy who spoke french was basically saying "J'y vais pas, c'est trop dangereux" which when translated in english means "I won't go, it's too dangerous"
What the guy is saying in French : "I don't care, I am not going there! It's far too dangerous" and then "I'm not going there, it's too dangerous, I told you" and finally : "have a nice trip, sir"
3:33 the blood touch the gold ended the previous curse but it doesn't stop the cursed Aztec gold properties, so basically whoever steals AGAIN from that chest will get a NEW curse
French guy says : "I don't care, it's too dangerous. I'm not going any further, it's too dangerous" 😅

Did you notice who played Bootstrap? It's Stellan Skarsgard. He also plays the fat, evil Baron Harkonnen in Dune. He is the father of Bill Skarsgard who played Pennywise in IT.
The curse *WAS* gone completely for all the thieves who stole the treasure last time.
Because they gave it back.
However, the treasure is still protected.
It would have been a very lame magic protection if you could just steal it, give it back immediately, steal it again, and then be completely fine.
When a piece of the treasure is stolen a second time, a *NEW* curse starts, affecting the one tiny thief. 😉

Even though they didn’t make the first movie with sequels in mind. They did do a good job tying things together. Even after all these years, the CGI on Davy Jones looks good.
I do like how they gave Elizabeth more to do in this movies. Much more proactive, and she makes a pretty awesome pirate.
3:25 The curse is like ongoing I guess. So if you take a piece you are cursed unless you return it and make a blood offering. Anytime you take a piece you become cursed.

So the novelization and a series of deleted scenes tell the backstory between Sparrow and Beckett that we only get hints of in the final cut of the film.
Jack was an honest man serving as captain aboard a merchant ship called the Wicked Wench under the direction of Commodore Cutler Beckett. Beckett wanted Jack to carry a haul of 100 slaves to an island, Jack refused. Beckett was eventually able to trick Jack into taking the shipment, but Jack realized after getting underway what he was doing, so he freed the slaves. The freed slaves are the villagers near Tia Dalma’s swamp. Upon learning what Jack did, Beckett had him and his ship captured. Beckett branded Jack as a pirate for “stealing” his shipment of slaves, and had the Wicked Wench burned and sank while Jack watched. Jack jumped into the water and tried to save his ship, eventually perishing with the ship as it sank.
As Jack had died at sea, Davy Jones came to him and offered the same deal he offered other sailors; Join my crew, or die. Jack appealed to Jones that he deserved another chance because he had freed the 100 slaves. Jones agreed to give Jack 13 years as Captain of the Wicked Wench, after which time Jack would have to join Jones’s crew. Jones raised the Wicked Wench from the depths and Jack along with it. Because it had been burned, the Wench was charred and blackened. Hence Jack rechristened her the Black Pearl. Because he was branded as a pirate Jack could not find honest work, thus he was forced to enter the life of piracy to survive.
The reasons Jack’s soul is worth 100 normal souls is because of the 100 slaves he freed.

Free trivia for you: They actually tell you the island is full of cannibals before you even see it. "I trade spices there for, mmm, delicious long pork." If you don't know, "long pork" is code for "human meat" even irl. So for those of us who know what "long pork" is, we knew as soon as he said that something sketchy was about to go down. (to be clear, I'm not saying that the character himself knows what "long pork" is, because I doubt he was willingly eating human flesh, but that IS what the phrase refers to, and that IS what they were giving him in exchange for spices whether he knew it or not.)

We had a family friend who worked as an extra on this movie. He had a picture with Johnny Depp and I thought it was the coolest thing in the world.
The french dude simply said "Good travels mister". If you meant before that, when there was no subtitles. he said "No i cannot do that, it's too dangerous. I stay right here."

If you take any Aztec gold from the chest at Isla Del Muerta you must return it with some of your blood for the curse to be lifted. The reason the monkey is still undead is because it also took a piece of the Aztec gold. As far as I'm aware never returned it. And even if the monkey did it would still be cursed unless it's blood was on the coin or coins it stole. It was person by person all of them individually having to give their blood on the gold to lift their curse. Although that makes no sense because as undead none of them could bleed as you could see. In or out of the moonlight none of them could bleed. Just like Barbosa didn't when Jack stabbed him in the chest with his sword. No blood. The only other alternative was that they each found family members of their own family and used their blood on the gold they personally stole. Like they were trying to do with Bootstrap Bill's son Will. Since they found and stole all the gold together at the same time. The curse required that all of them together to the last pirate had to do it and it not be lifted until every single one did and was on all of them at the same time. The monkey took the gold after the rest of the Pearls crew's curse was lifted. Putting the curse solely on the monkey. It would have to bleed on the gold it stole to lift it's curse. I'm assuming that if say the monkey who's already cursed and then people arrived separately at different times and stole some. That the curse would just be individual. But possibly not and might just start all over again not lifting the curse on any until every last person was found...AND the monkey. Which would be worse because no one would know since they stole them at different times who the other thieves were that stole any of it. And would probably never know and be cursed forever
