Something to keep in mind about the compass is that it shows you what you want most and what you want most changes. So for example when Elizabeth was looking at the compass after Nortingtion asked her if she never wondered how Will ended up on the Flying Dutchman what Elizabeth wanted most in that moment was the answer to that question. That's why the compass pointed towards Jack. Not because she liked him. The compass pointed towards Jack again on the beach because it was in front of her while Jack was behind her and she was sitting on the spot the chest of Davy Jones was buried which is what Elizabeth wanted most to save Will.
Thanks for pointing that out. Many people misinterpret it as Elizabeth having feelings for Jack which wasn’t true
if that was true then give me on reason why she was going to kiss Jack, he was the one who backed off BCS the black spot appeared
@@tommytommy7535 Because she was testing Jack…she told him ‘surely you wouldn’t do anything to compromise a lady’s honour’ and was baiting him to prove that he indeed didn’t have a morality or decency. I would give another reason as well but don’t want to spoil the movie for Sofie in case she reads the comments

I was so hyped when I first saw that scene! Also, fun fact: the kiss Elizabeth plants on Jack to distract him long enough to tie him to the ship was intentionally left out of Orlando Bloom's(Will) script. He had no idea it was going to happen, so the "wtf" look on his face was a genuine reaction.
Yes, that was Captain Barbossa at the end and Barbossa died in the first movie. You can very briefly see him lying on the Tia Dalma's (the voodoo woman) table earlier in the movie (they only show his boots) and it hints that he's coming back.
So she brought him back to life with voodoo magick? I always thought it was the coin.
@@markcruz359 Don't think it's ever confirmed HOW exactly he's resurrected. It's pretty much left to the imagination. So it could be the coin, or it could be another supernatural means, but we never see it.

It was not the coin , otherwise he´d change back to his skeleton form in the moon light. And that does not happen. As long he is in the story from now on, he can enjoy his precious apples.
@@NiersFloater So what was the point of the end credits scene then? i thought the monkey grabbed the coin, Barbossa comes back to life and then they return the coin straight away.
Jack purely wanted to trade the heart with Jones in return of his debt being forgiven and the kraken to be called off the hunt of jack, that's why he couldn't let jones die until those terms were agreed. As for Barbossa you'll find out why he's alive in the next one 😁 if you haven't already watched it

Not spoiling how Barbossa is back but it is NOT the coin. The monkey just preferred being cursed so recursed himself. But Pintel and Ragetti (the funny pirate duo who were cursed in the first film) are not cursed which confirms that Jack (the monkey) pulling a coin from the chest didnt affect any of the other previously cursed pirates.
Barbossa did die in the first. How he is alive will be explained in the next movie. Please make sure to watch the end credits for the third movie. It is a must
Always loved the ending to this film. Jack does what he can to help the Pearl and its crew, proudly declares Elizabeth a pirate, then charismatically accepts death. Soooooooooooo guuuud.

What the Barbosa coming back and eating an apple scene suggests is that the monkey did indeed bring him back to live, once he was alive he returned the gold to the chest hence ending the curse and being able to "enjoy life" again, so he can eat apples and enjoy them.

Fun fact all the actors in the room didn't know Barbosa was walking down the stairs so when you see them react it was genuine surprise.

This is the funniest Pirates of the Caribbean movie. It also happens to be my favourite Pirates movie.
The effects on Davy Jones and the crew are still so terrifyingly gross and cool. They just. Look. Awesome.
Control the heart, control Davy Jones. Plus he's the only one who can call off the Kraken from killing Jack, plus the next movie reveals there's a price in stabbing the heart.

The villain is Lord Beckett, head of the East India Company, which in modern media is usually portrayed as the original evil corporate empire. A portrayal which, honestly, isn’t far off.

The monkey and the coin had nothing to do with this - stealing the coin only turned the monkey into an undead, nothing more.

I always interpreted the compass pointing to Jack as Elizabeth being attracted to Jack's life style as a pirate, not necessarily him as a person. Jack embodies the freedom that Elizabeth always wanted. Elizabeth just misunderstood her feelings.
I never thought of it in this way and I really like your interpretation. It makes a great deal of sense.
The compass pointed to Jack because Elizabeth wanted to know the answer to whom responsible for Will being on the Dutchman. At that point, she realized that Jack was lying to her the whole time, thus her shock reaction.
The ending leaves you wanting more
He did die, after this point the monkey is no longer undead. Tia Dalma used the monkeys undead nature to restore him to life somehow.
21:43 That's why the woman at the end said "you need a captain who knows those waters" assuming he died and got back somehow and now they basically would have to go the land of the dead (and back as well).

Barbosa WAS killed in the curse of the Black Pearl... Tia Dalma knew he would be needed so she brought him back. And that's why he knows the waters there... he'd just came back through there.
Jack Sparrow wanted the heart to negotiate for his life because he had a debt to Davy Jones (remember the Black mark in his Jacks hand)

It's called "Liar's dice" and is one of my favorite party games. Basically, each person starts with 5 dice. You only know the dice that you have, but you know the total number of dice because each person has 5, so you can estimate probabilities. On your turn, you have two choices, make a bid, or call the guy who went before you a liar. So whoever is going first that round just begins by declaring how many of a certain face value there might be. "Four fours" for example. The next person has to increase either the face value, or number of dice, or both. So after the initial bid of "four fours", you could say "five fours" or you could say "6 threes" or even "8 sixes", but you can't say "four threes." (Optional rule that ones are considered wild, but I won't get into how that works.) That's the basics.
Eventually, when someone makes a claim you don't think is true (such as "12 fives", which would be extremely unlikely with only 15 total dice like in the movie scene), the person whos turn it is after that can call them a liar instead of making a new bid. At this point, everyone reveals their dice. If the accused person was correct, meaning there are that many or more showing, the one who called them a liar loses, if they were wrong, they lose instead. In the real life version, you get rid of 1 die each time you lose a round, and the last person with dice wins the game. In the movie they just play one round and bet something on the outcome.

Barbossa did die in first one. Tia Dalma likely used some magic to revive him, using the zombie monkey Jack to revive him. Since they ere connected. Elizabeth doesn’t really love Jack. There was an attraction, but she used that to manipulate him to stay and die. Otherwise they’d all die. Likely now what she’s feeling is intense guilt for getting him killed. Will doesn’t know that and thinks that kiss was real.
Have to hand it to Will. Being willing to help revive Jack because he thinks it’s what Elizabeth wants.
Tia Dalma brought back Barbosa with her magic which will be explained
Barbosa came back from the dead...that's hovv he "knovvs those vvaters" that must be traversed in order to bring back Jack.

Tia Dalma brought Barbossa back with her powers. You will learn who she really is in the last movie. And the guy who you call a "king" is actually a lord. Lord Cutler Beckett hahaha. They monkey is immortal but has nothing to do with Captain Barbossa, that's Tia Dalma's doing.

Elizabeth does think Jack is a good man, she always loves will though. There is always a reason that the compass points to Jack and it starts to frustrate her because she doesn’t know what the reason is. The ending is just her manipulating him though

Yes in reality Elizabeth could have just told Will that she kissed him to distract Jack from the fact she was chaining him up, but this is a movie with unrealistic contrivances in order to make a “ compelling story “ in real life they would have discussed it and accepted the choices for the better good.
Will's reaction when Jack reveals that Elizabeth was responsible for his death in the next one is precisely the reason why she didn't tell him. She knows that Will won't just accept it, because he is too loyal to Jack.

Jack shot Barbosa before the last coin and blood was returned to the chest. (I'll bet there is a loophole in there somewhere).
The monkey became mortal, then re-stole the coin to be re-cursed as undead again. Everyone else remains mortal. Barbosa should have not died or even bled, but he did which confuses the logic for me. (All 1st movie events). I guess I missed something if it's not the coin-curse.
When he got shot the bullet and hole were still there. It just didn't effect him because of the curse. The curse then got lifted by WIll, before he had the chance to heal up again or reset (most likely just by standing in the moonlight and back out again).
@@TheMexicanKnightHe had missing organs and plenty of sword holes already during the fight. I don't think a bullet hole had any effect while he was undead. Everything else healed up for everyone. I don't think that theory is likely, but thanks for the input.
@@jimspetdragons3737i think it still holds up im just not explaining it best. Im saying that they can take as much damage as they want. But when they go into moonlolight and enter curse mode all those wounds disappear. Since most of their flesh does too. And as soon as they step out of moonlight they regenerate their full bodies without the injuries. Look at the rest of the crew. They all take a lot of damage but only the guy who got stabbed right as they transformed back (the curse ending) was injured/ died.
I think had barbossa stepped into moonlogjt and back after getting shot he wouldnt have died.
@@TheMexicanKnight Thi moonlight shows how they really are. There's no evidence that their true form actually heals at all. There is no changing between moonlight and their appearance w/o the moonlight. Their cursed mode remains & includes any damage they take (though mostly shown for comedic value). The lifting of the curse is the only real change. The bleeding of Barbosa from the shot is more a plot hole to further the story.
But I do respect your opinion. It could be either way. We just disagree on the mechanics of the series. Thanks for the input.🙂

I never understood how Will was able to escape after losing the wager. Surely Jones would have known and stopped it.

@@jxsh03 Then why did he steal the key? Wouldnt he have won it in the wager, if he won the wager? Jones never gave up the key, and Will had to steal it while he slept. I took this to be Will lost the wager; after all he admitted to Bootstrap it wasnt about winning or losing, it was about finding out where the key was. Am I wrong for presuming Will lost the bet? Because it was never made clear.
I wish they had been more explicit about how Barbossa came back. Either the monkey, as an extension of him, stole an Aztec coin, or Tiadarma used a combo of that and Voodoo. How she got Barossa's body, we have no idea...

Barbossa did die. But he came back. No coin involved. Jack is dead and they're setting out to bring him back. It'll all get explained in At World's End.
The compass always points to what you want most, but what you want changes, and isn't always obvious. So when the compass points at Jack, what Elizabeth really wants is answers to her questions Where's Will? How did Will end up on the Flying Dutchman? How do I save Will? etc.
The Heart doesn't grant control over the Sea, but anyone with the Heart could kill Jones. Therefore, Jones will have to do whatever said person wants.
Jack wanted the Heart so Jones would forget the deal they made, forgive the debt Jack owes him, call off the Kraken.
Will wanted the Heart to force Jones to free his father / kill Jones so his father will be free of the Dutchman's curse.
Norrington wanted the Heart because he knew Cutler Beckett wanted the Heart.
Cutler Beckett wants the Heart to win control of the Sea for the East India Trading Company, because the Dutchman is an incredibly powerful ship.
The beautiful thing about the Pirates films is everyone acts in their own self-interest. Rarely do people have the option of nobility, or "doing the right thing" as Elizabeth says.
