Oh. Check out George Benson's "Give Me The Night." Cause there's music in the air and lots of loving everywhere.... it's a great song! Thank you for everything you do. Much respect and appreciation.
he's not underrated at all, one of the best jazz guitarist ever, a legend... his lighter stuff, like this song, isn't very interesting to me, Santana did his thing here, but he's miles away as a player
Hehe, George Benson is a jazz guitar legend, but also smart enough to realise he was never going to make any money playing jazz. He worked out that a few years making pop songs would set him up for life, and he went straight back to jazz, with millions in the bank. I actually saw him live in Bournemouth (England) at the BIC in the early 90s. I went with my Mum who loved his pop stuff, and I loved his jazz. It was a bit surreal, because there was me, this jazz loving punk in all black, with blonde dreads (think skinny Jonathan Davis from Korn, but before Korn), watching G.B. with his Mum. Everyone else is in their Sunday best, suits, dresses etc., and I'm drinking Special Brew in the bar before the show (and intermission). It was magical !
George is a top notch virtuoso jazz guitarist, probably the best of his generation: literally a genius. It would be foolish for Santana even to think to play over him. Not the same league.
Two guitarists who are amazing. So young in this picture. Carlos Santana is artist I've probably seen the most, next to Chris Cornell. First show when I was 3rd or 4th grade.
@@joyceromio7002 I've seen Santana twice, the last time was when he was touring after Smooth came out. The first time...when he was touring with Stevie Ray Vaughan.
@@bobbyc3895 what a combination!! And to have seen SRV live. Wow. What is a trip is seeing Carlos Santana at Woodstock (pictures). I only recently learned his brother was in the group that made 'Suavecito' (of course the name is sitting right in my brain). He passed last year, I think. CS is a good soul.
Bobby Womac did a lot of recording at Muscle Shoals in the70s. He jokingly left a note on the door."some body" need to clean this damn place! Then he said, but I love this place.
Bobby Womack wrote this number with his left- handed upside down guitar style.Gabor Szabo recorded it in 1971 but George had a huge hit with his cover in 1975. Nice choice Jamel!🎶🌴
Wow, do I miss "The Midnight Special." Every Friday night, I'd be home in time for the show. And every Saturday night, I'd be home for Don Kirshner's Rock Concert. But Midnight Special was especially great!
This is when music was great. Most of the music we have today is drum machines and auto tune. Take me back to the 70s. Beautiful music here in this video. Nice cut Jamal ✊🏻
@NOAH CASAS: THANK YOU! The generations raised on rap rely so heavily on lyrics, and seem surprised or disappointed even, when there's simply a melody, no matter how fantastic. I can't help but wonder if autotuning and discontinuing music programs in our public schools has resulted in a lack of appreciation and knowledge of the role that instruments play in music.
I'm a heavy metal guy. But when I was in college I took a history of Jazz course. The professor forced us to write a term paper on an assigned figure. I wanted Brubaker bc Take 5 was really all I knew about jazz. Glad I got George Benson though and through that assignment I was opened up to his catalog of music. What a prolific guitarist!
Never had heard this version. It's wonderful. Are you ever so moved that you just can't get close enough to the music? Have always loved George and "Breezin"--I have the vinyl LP by that title.
I loved it when the Weather Channel on Cable started playing jazz guitar when they were showing the city's forecasts. LoL, I've home from school and mom would have it on dancing around the house like it was her own personal radio station. Mom was a huge Benson fan.
Instrumentals like this from George and others such as Weather Report and Spyra Gyra always put me in a great mood. Frosting on the cake with Carlos on this masterpiece 😎
George Benson was well known as a great jazz musician at first, but after the 'Breezin' album's super success (won a Grammy) and 'This Masquerade', he became known as a singer too! Another classic cover, "On Broadway"!!
If a person could have a conversation with an inanimate object, that person would be Carlos Santana playing his guitar & George Benson talking to his guitar as well. Now you know why we miss music from 1955-2000
Congrats Jamel, for checking out George Benson. Nice collaboration fusing a Latin Rock legend with a jazz phenom! Thanks for diving into some grown folks' music!
i was a fan of Santana in the 70s and Benson in the 80s. Never knew they played together at any time. Love this song. One of my favorite Benson songs along with Turn your love around.
This right here is the difference between today's music and good music. Each of these men can PLAY but they don't hog the spotlight, they feed off one another's energy. Not only that but they have a signature style. Even if you don't see the title of the video or hear George's intro you know that you are listening to Carlos Santana and George Benson.

A fantastic player. I was fortunate to see George live a decade or so ago. A George Benson concert features a bizarre mix of incredible taste, questionably cheesy taste, and incredible virtuosity. Still, really, one of the great modern jazz guitarists and worth experiencing live.
Brother Jamel, I'm gonna love you forever now cuz George Benson, Hall & Oates and Billy Joel were me high school crushes back in the 80's. I had the pleasure of seeing George Benson Live once on a Jazz Cruise and he was amazing. I seriously cannot wait to see you react to more of his music.
Can't stop smiling when I watch George play, such a pro! Santana uses the main riff from this song in his own song called Samba Pa Ti during the lead soloing. Live in Mexico version is awesome if I remember correctly.
Saw him at the Stanley Theater in Pittsburgh a long time ago. The older ladies in the audience that knew George from where he grew up in the Hill District were swooning over him. Great show.
I heard this song in an elevator around 1998 at some kind of graphic arts convention in Tampa. Searched long and hard for this song. Finally found it around 2014. Love it!
Nothing against Mr Santana. But George Bensons “Breezin” is beautiful all by itself. 😍 Check out The Best of George Benson and you’ll find every song is incredible! Not a bad song on the album.

I agree with everyone, "Give Me the Night" is a jam.
Carlos knows how to play "with" others rather than over them. Truly great.
Truth. He is awesome but puts the music ahead of his ego. An example a lot of 'shredders' could learn from.
