    HOW TO INSTALL A FIAMMA ROOF VENT / PEUGEOT BOXER VAN CONVERSION / VAN LIFE UK
    So today was the day I had been dreading. Installing the first of two Fiamma 40x40 roof vents to my Peugeot Boxer. I created a cardboard template as per the measurements, marked up the location and cut through the roof to expose the area.
    The area that I had cut was then treated and I used some Mastic Sealing strips around the area before fitting & sealing with some Sikaflex and some self taping screws to secure and hopefully watertight the whole area.
    Fingers crossed it's all watertight now and I'll make a wooden surround for when I get to the cladding of the ceiling part. Now just to await for the 352 watt solar panel to arrive, fit & secure that to the roof and then I can install the second roof vent to the rear of the vehicle. I'll leave some links below to the items I used for fitting of the Fiamma Vent for you.

    Hi Rob i came across your channel a while back now as i was researching Citroen dispatch conversions , i would be interested in your opinions of the dispatch, i only want to use mine as a camper not to live in.
    i have just subscribed and will be watching your new conversion, you have done some good work already i see, cant wait to see more of your adventures in the new van.

    • @PackTheVanAndGo
      @PackTheVanAndGo  4 роки тому +2

      Hi John, thanks for the message. I actually loved my dispatch and went away a while back for about 2 weeks and lived comfortably with a big dog also. I loved how easy and comfortable it was to drive, how I could access narrow lanes that bigger vans couldn't. How I could find places more off beat that bigger vans couldn't. But when I was away, i loved living in a van and decided to rent my house out and travel for a few years, but to survive a few years, I'd need a bigger van with the ability to stand up and move around more. So I reluctantly sold the Dispatch and bought my new van. I also miss the Dispatch for being able to still nip to the shops, the bigger van you can't really do that! So I loved the Dispatch and It helped me enjoy life, get out and about and see places and made me fall in love with Van Life! So the Dispatch gets a big thumbs up from me! And thank you for subbing our channel and following our new conversion and our new adventures in 2021. Archie & Me

      i have quite a bit on my plate at the moment , also through this crisis were under and people having to holiday at home , prices for campers has gone through the roof, so im thinking of holding fire until end of season.
      yes your van could have solved all my dilemmas lol, it will have to be an already converted van as my skills are non existent i,m afraid. the things you were saying about the dispatch like small enough to get in tight places etc , is why i want to go that way, i have seen a toyota proace same van as a dispatch contemplating those to, was your 1.6, or 2.0ltr ?

    Good video but I'd honestly be a bit worried about that lasting more than a couple of seasons. Sealant on top of Butyl won't adhere and the amount of Butyl applied there isn't quite sufficient. I did a similar job with the same skylight and it gave out in January. It's really worth getting it right, once a leak gets in it's a disaster. All the surfaces should be meticulously cleaned with white spirit and meths. You also need to use the wider Butyl rubber strips and layer them up until you've got a perfect flat surface for the sky light flanges to contact when you place it on. Then when you screw down firm and you'll create a proper long lasting 'over pressure gasket'. Trim the excess that gets squeezed out (give it a 4-5 hours) Then you can finally trim the edges and point with a decent bead of Sikaflex 512. Done.

    • @PackTheVanAndGo
      @PackTheVanAndGo  4 роки тому

      Hi, much appreciated for your advice, I'll keep an eye on the sealant as the seasons go! Rob

      I think you are quite right in your comments. I would add that it might be advisable to rough up the roof area where the mastic is to be applied with a light glasspaper (say 120 grit) to remove the gloss paint finish and also to rough up the mating surface of the light fitting to remove any factory moulding release coating. Anything you can do to give longevity to the installation is desirable. Nothing worse than a leak necessating the removal of your cladding and insulation to repair.

    Dat music though, love it. I've just refitted my roof vent cos it was leaking. I didn't put owt sticky on the vent itself so may love to regret that...🤔🙈😏. It's a lorra fun doing all that on a ridged roof isn't it? 🙄😏

    • @PackTheVanAndGo
      @PackTheVanAndGo  4 роки тому +1

      The bottom plate screws direct into the vent frame. If I had someone else helping me, I would have secured a wooden frame inside as I placed the screws, but working by myself I couldn't do that.. so making a wooden frame around the screws that are showing, sealing it all, back filling where possible and then cover with cladding eventually. Perks of living and working by yourself mate!

    got a question - rather nervous about cutting holes in the roof, so been watching loadsa vids elsewhere. My continual curse is water ingress, so looking at some other vids I wanted to know if you had considered:
    - installing a wooden frame on the inside to clamp down into, instead of using just self-tappers?
    - using those silicon/rubber washers on the screws
    - sikaflex over the screw heads
    or if not, does this kit (which I've just bought) have other remedies like lips/flanges to prevent water ingress? TIA

    • @PackTheVanAndGo
      @PackTheVanAndGo  3 роки тому +1

      Hi mate, to answer your question, I’ve just sat through a harsh winter in the van up in Scotland, over that period with a hard frost and then some sun, the sikaflex has started to deteriorate already, so planning on removing the vent and fitting a wooden frame underneath when the weather gets better.. I also used sikaflex over the screw heads and didn’t experience any water ingress in either of my vents, but as I said, I plan on adding a wooden frame under neath to add more strength and more of a solid fixing point for the vent in the summer. Hope that helps and measure twice and cut small just in case. Rob
