    According to manual of another roof hatch - and seeing examples in my caravan, you need to rotate de hatch 90º. The HANDELS need to be FRONT and BACK, not left and right.
    nice review!

    Dometic Heki comes in quite large variants, and they are double-glazed acrylic so they work well even in the cold. 1 meter wide, 75 cm long... the most luxurious models have engines on them and rain sensors and close automatically.

      @ExplorationBrothers  6 років тому

      True! There are many available, but they are out of this camper budget. Maybe in the future we'll decide to build another one, so then we'll choose with a sensor one.))

    thanks for the video. :) we also consider fitting in a larger skylight, which means we'll need to cut one of the steel ribs. I was wondering if you've experienced any "side affects" by doing so ...?

    • @ExplorationBrothers
      @ExplorationBrothers  5 років тому

      No side-effects at all for now. The structure is solid. Next time we would go even for bigger rooftop window!

    Hello, I'm curious what your experience has been with the Fiamma 50 in the rain? Do you get any rain through it at all when it is closed? I see that it is above your head when you are sleeping. This is similar to the configuration I am planning so I want to be sure that I won't get water coming through the vent into my bed or on my head!

  • @sandrisaug
    @sandrisaug 4 роки тому

    Well done! Just one moment - is that hatch hermetic due to having that rectangle holes in the lower glass layer? Isn't heat going out from inside if hatch is fully closed?

  • @a4adventurewales

    That was a really helpful video, thank you. How noisy and draughty is the vent when you drive please?

    • @ExplorationBrothers
      @ExplorationBrothers  6 років тому +1

      Hey Tim,
      When we drive all our hatches are usually closed and we do not hear any noise, so I wouldn’t be too worried about this issue.

    Can this roof vent be open to 90° (by dismantling some screws for example ?). I would like to have the possibility to access my roof that's why 😁

    • @ExplorationBrothers
      @ExplorationBrothers  3 роки тому

      This one you cannot open like a classic vent. You can raise lid for about 5 cm.

    Where did you buy the plexiglass spacers, you used? Do you have a link?

    • @ExplorationBrothers
      @ExplorationBrothers  4 роки тому +1

      You make them. Buy a small sheets of plexiglass in the big DIY shop and cut then to the size you need. It doesn’t matter that they are angled, but you can do even that.
      Even plastic cutting board will work.

    A guy wants to charge me $380 just in labour to install one.
    Before going ahead, I would like to know your opinion. Here in Melbourne, the average hourly rate of an electrician or mechanic is roughly $100 an hour. So it would mean he would charge me 4 hours in labour.
    How long does take to install from start to finish? Thanks.

    • @ExplorationBrothers
      @ExplorationBrothers  5 років тому

      We would say it took us around 3 and something hours each hatch. Consider that we were doing that for the first time in our life so probably next time it will take as (with everything what we need for work in-front of us) around 2 hours (that doesn’t include time spent looking for the right inserts (we used plexiglass) and buying missing stuff (screws and so on). We guess all consumables will be included in that price?
      In Italy for two hatches someone asked us 240 euro but probably it’s not gonna be convenient for you to drive all the way for one hatch! )))

    • @Solid3d-Melb
      @Solid3d-Melb 5 років тому

      @@ExplorationBrothers no, he wants to charge me $380 just in labour + $190 for the hatch = $570

    • @ExplorationBrothers
      @ExplorationBrothers  5 років тому

      Seems to be quite expensive, but we should remember that it’s Australia.
      Maybe you should check couple of “how to install hatch” videos and do it by yourself (you can buy all necessary tools and still save a lot of money) + acquire some experience!

    Do you have a link where to buy that thick tolls of tape you used for the hatch, and those spacers?

    • @ExplorationBrothers
      @ExplorationBrothers  6 років тому +1

      Something like this:
      www.3m.com/3M/en_US/company-us/all-3m-products/~/3M-Weatherban-Sealant-Tape-5354/?N=5002385+3293241318&rt=rud

      It's basically plexiglass. Whoever does advertising have them. Or you can just take any rectangular plastic rail and use it. Even if the edges will be straight.

    • @ExplorationBrothers

      We actually have an extractor fan (the one in the front) - we have 2 total. It would be a bit of waist of time for people to watch almost the same installation of the hatch. If you are interested check out full build and our feedback from this playlist:

      Thanks, yep seen it, great vids.. I have a T5.1 Long wheel base, considered a MWB Sprinter, for the head room and slightly longer wheel base but not sure I'll get a good example for £7.5k... My t5.1 has full serice history and I quite like the small size.. Just need to be very clever with how I build!
