Lived in Tecumseh then Belle River until I was 18, moved to GTA currently Hamilton. Still visit my inlaws in tecumseh almost monthly...great video. I bought my first house in Burlington at 22 in 2011 just before things got crazy.....My wife and I almost yearly consider moving back.....since 2011 an equivalent house in Windsor is always 50% less than GTA even after the big increases in windsor! But for us, its the closeness to Toronto for City stuff like concerts major league sports and cool events, without having to get a passport out or wait at a border crossing and have OHIP if anything happens....but at same time, NATURE, windsor has nothing, its flat and boring, here in Hamiltion there are hiking trails with elevation and waterfalls EVERYWHERE. That and the lack of good jobs keep us here in the GTA. Also proximity to cottage country, Niagara, Ottawa/Montreal is huge too.
Some observations as someone whose lived long term in both places....real estate...if you buy in windsor you are stuck as the value does go up proportionally but if your house goes up 100k in windsor, its 200k in GTA. Another reason we didn't move back! Also WHAT is with windsorites at 4 way stops, they have such a weird cadence, we really notice this they seem to get confused compared to around the GTA! Also, the average windsorite thinks people in the GTA are rich, when realistically most people make around $20-30 an hour, and these are jobs with degrees/skills....factory workers at chrysler are over $40 an hour now in one of the cheapest places to live. It feels like there is alot of entitlement of factory workers over the rest of the city, and things can go badly....if the automotive sector goes south even with all the promises and rosed coloured glasses approach the union gives...thousands of families will lose their main income and the workers will have zero transferrable skills, they wont make that salary anywhere else.
TOYS>>>>>houses in the suburbs, they have TONS of boats RVs nice cars, etc etc, around here that is SO rare there isnt even space to put these toys around here. It seems like people live it up in windsor, but I remember in 2008 lots of that was gone, it slowly came back, but it makes me think that alot of these folks are financing the toys and not paying for them in cash or saving cash, around GTA you see lots of used old cars, more commonly and most people do not have pensions etc so there is more emphasis and chatter about saving and investing than my friends and family in windsor.
All that said, Windsor is my hometown, I love visiting, I get excited going downtown for a drive and a walk along the water, I am proud of how clean it is, and everyone in suburbs takes care of their lawn, keeps their cars clean, shovels their snow, its a huge difference from around here and I truly miss all of that!
I ESPECIALLY MISS THE PIZZA< NOTHING COMPARES ANYWHERE ELSE!!!!

Hello and thank you for this video it made me happy that my husbands birthplace, is so genuinely honest and kind in your approach to the more negative sides. My husband says business men saved money from wages by moving their Ford car company to Mexico and other business soon followed suit. It used to be a thriving community and bit by bit it's showing its decay. All because of money. We'll it's about time other places help out good all Windsor.

I used to live in Windsor 25 years ago. And it wasn't a very pleasant place people wise! Sure there were a FEW gems of people but they mostly kept to themselves and eventually moved away too! The only reason why I'd ever go Windsor is to visit the places and eat the best pizza in the world. Oh and to visit Detroit. I loved the area but not so much the people's mindsets. It's too bad because it truly is a beautiful part of Ontario with a rich history.

Hi, Ryan, thanks for your efforts in making these videos about Windsor, I really enjoyed your presentation, I live in Calgary and to tell the truth, the snow made me bored and hopeless, wanna move to a warmer place close to the US, Windsor is in my first place in the list. Just wanted to know how the new house construction over there is? I've been doing construction jobs like flooring and framing here in Calgary.

Windsor is pretty cool over all, I like the slower pace of the smaller town after having grown up and lived in bigger cities like Montreal and Boston. The thing about downtown being slow makes sense since its overshadowed by the much bigger Detroit just next door, which offers all the typical amenities for an urban night out.

Also my brother lived for a time on in ford city, right neat the mural. Definitely run down, and one time I saw prostitutes walking around. There are a few nice places to mingle at, but definitely not a place to stay after dark. His apartment he was renting was the sweetest loft I ever set foot in though. I wanted it for myself really bad!

Downtown sucks you're right just a few points, we're not mostly Detroit fans, You have more Maple Leaf fans then Wings fans, Raptor fans are close to the Piston, and BlueJays and Tigers are close but maybe more Tigers then Jay's, those abandoned houses you're referring to in the west end is owned by the Ambassador Bridge Co and the Marooon family so nothing people can do about that, you're unequivocally correct being, Windsorites are the nicest people in Windsor.

lol Windsor has great food, nicos spagos and uh other places I cant think of 😂. There is good places but nothing to move for. Although he is right. Fish flies are no problem at all. Everything else fairly accurate. Remington park does suck. Don’t live in Windsor proper. Wine country huge plus.

Great video but I have one thing I strongly disagree about. The people in Windsor are not nice people. I know other people who also vouch for this.
They are rude and act like the police will magically appear and protect them before they get their rude ass beat down.
Metro Detroiters by comparison are much nicer people. Now there are a bunch of homeless people roaming the streets just adds to this problem.

    • @azavy

the food in windsor is not that good. The fast food is gross only a few locations actually taste like there suppose to. Don't believe me eat Burger King near huron church and tecumseh and it tastes really good, eat at the one near mcdougall and tecumseh and it tastes bad. Don't eat at the mcdonalds beside the tunnel, i've never ate mcnuggets so dry and gross before. Fried chicken only Church's is good. Popeyes is questionable and KFC needs to be avoided at all costs. Its sad because I really like KFC . Chatham fast food tastes like its suppose to. I don't understand what they are doing in windsor fast food spots. Don't get me started on the restaurants I've ordered Skip the Dishes from a few high rated spots and couldn't even eat the food waste of $40 minimum.

Why on earth would you eat at chain restaurants in Windsor. If I want “fast food” I go to Sofos Greek, bashas shawarma, el diablo mexican , or bobby burrito
