had a ton of them in Winnipeg. They would swarm the gas station I worked at. Gross, but harmless and not nearl as bad as the mosquito and wasp problem they have in Winterpeg. Also the warm climate is really nice after enduring -30c january and february every year there too. Windsor is actually a very clean and nice city and I have no clue why it's named the armpit of Canada by some people.

All those negatives of Windsor is very negligible things compare to many big cities people go through as daily basis. Many people hate big cities hassle.

I’m from Windsor living in Vancouver. I’d take 2 weeks of my Buddy fishflies over 365 days of homeless people going through my recycle in the middle of the night looking for Empties !!

They could pile up 6 inches deep at Tecumseh Road and Lauzon Rd around the 70s, these days the number of fish flies is just minimal.
Mild Winters, Hot summers, May Flies (Fish Flies, because they are fish food, about 3 weeks max), Skiing - Pine Knob and Boyne Mountain in Michigan, 2 or 4 hour drive, Windsor is the cleaner safer suburb of Detroit, 20 minutes from downtown Windsor to downtown Detroit

Poor old Windsor, my hometown. My family used to have businesses on Oeullette and Goyeau south of Wyandoote and now that area looks like a demilitarized zone. North of Wyandoote is a bit cleaner but stilll a ghost town. When I was a kid the downtown was humming, then the Casino really wrecked the place. Thanks a pantload, Bob Rae.

I miss Windsor. Moved away in 99 to a small city where I have to drive over an hour to get to a semi major city. Only perk I have is I’m closer to Toronto than when I lived in Windsor.

We are new immigrants to Canada and it’s just getting so unaffordable to buy a place in Toronto so looking at something in Windsor. Found a place for $349,900 in a neighbourhood called Loebach drive. We have never been to Windsor and I’m not sure what this area is like, is it safe and also, for someone who doesn’t drive, what is the public transit system like in this area? Our potholes are a bit much though. They do do construction on ec row every year but they need to maintain the other roads. Especially west end where ppl come into Canada and around the university. Can only use so much cold patch on our roads. Drugs are a huge problem here too.
You did not mention THE RATS if you live near The River ..I worked there for 5 months in 2008 at the Casino and stayed in a rented house a few blocks away and up to that point in my life had never seen a rat ...And i seen rats like i see squirrels here in London and also the hum i heard it all the time when there at night mostly ...The best thing i found to do there on down time was the Board walk best at night watching Detroit lights coming on ...If you want a city that is blan with nothing much to do except for on the River then its a great place ..I think they need a Canadas Wonderland type park .. Anything worth doing is across the Boarder ....Sure you have the Casino but that is not a family fun place...Would not want to live there and the only reason i visited there was to show my niece all the work i did in the hotel side of the Casino and the river walk and then went home ....Its sad that this city has to live in the shadow of Detroit and the fact that a Las Vegas casino company owns the casino ...

Colchester has a beautiful beach! I’ve lived in Windsor for years and just this summer decided to explore Colchester, it’s a nice small town I like it 👍🏻
WE HAVE SOME REALLY BAD DRIVERS....AND THE CONSTRUCTION COMPLAINT IS PRETTY ACCURATE....WE DO HAVE A BRUTAL COMPANY DOING THAT WORK...THEY SHOULD GET SOMEONE ELSE !!!....OUR MAYOR IS ONE OF THE WORST EVER !!!
I lived on the river front in Windsor from 2017-2020 and I never saw these Fish Flies and never even heard of them being a problem, so IDK. The city is small and not the most exciting, but it is decent and I truly enjoyed my time there (was there for grad school). On the opposite end, I moved to Sault Ste. Marie in 2021-2022 for work and also loved it up there :) (for anyone who might be considering moving).
Fish Flies are usually only in the riverside area or east windsor by the river !!!

Looks like a nice city, but I could never live there due to the heat and humidity. I lived in Kitchener for a while and I hated the summers there.
Fishing is huge here, the two biggest food places we have here are seafood and Italian food too but obviously we have our McDonald’s and other kinds of food like Mexican…but we have a lot of good food here.
In terms of a nightlife in Windsor I have no clue at all, like we have a casino or two and stuff but maybe someone from Windsor could tell me something about the nightlife.
A peeve I have is that there’s garbage everywhere except the parks and nature trails thankfully, not like a ton or anything but there’s at least 1-3 bits of garbage every block you walk down in the suburban areas.
Remington park and I’ve never ever seen a park have this…it has its own little mini water park that has one water slide, two pools, and a diving board. Coolest. Thing. Ever. Especially for the local kids.
The public transport is nice most of the time but there are times where people are just packed in like sardines lol so be aware of that.
What he says is true about the weather but it is wayyyy better than say Orlando, Florida. In terms of the summer.
Your description of the climate (such as humidity, long summer weather, relatively little amount of snow) does sound identical to the Greater Toronto Area... I think that describes all of southwestern Ontario.
It is a significant difference from the rest of southwestern ontario, even a difference just from Chatham and London. If its 7 degrees hotter than GTA plus the humidity it’s brutal sometimes
I just drove through London today and they have snow and Windsor doesn’t. That seems to usually be the case. GTA I assume similar

The ec row xpressway used to be shutdown for months every summer but the complaints came to a head precovid and now it gets construction every other year. They skip years now so people can enjoy the xpressway quickness of getting across town.
Pizza makes up for fish flies.

Hi Ryan i moved from western canada to be closer to grand kids in the Waterloo area.Too costly for me as a senior. I have seen some houses listed around $200,000 in Windsor are these houses in rough areas? I dont need a big house but must be a safe area.Any feed back would be great.Thanks Eamon.
Great question! Those homes will be in bad areas. How the asking price is misleading- many sellers still list their home lower than than what they will actually accept. Minimum price point for a safe home in safe area right now is around 350k

Nope, there is not much "rough area" around Windsor, if u look from a different angle, Sandwich West could fit into the category, areas east of downtown couid also be named that way too.

fuck bro, im from sudbury and i think its almost as humid as Toronto. I have family in timmins and when I go there it feels the same Sudbury. I googled places in Canada without snow cause I lived a year in Van and a year in victoria. but its too expensive at the time rn. No where near that of which Detroit has lol every city has its good or bad areas - check out my video on worst streets in Windsor for more info on that. But honestly, I leave my doors unlocked half the time (don’t tell my neighbours)
Ive been in Detroit 52 years, the answer is NO!!! We have a huge illegal firearm problem here among other things

I don’t know a ton about the carpenters union, but I can tell you at 350-400k is entry level pricing right now in Windsor. 2-3 beds, 1 bathroom

Getting a "pardon" is only a "Canadian" pardon. To my knowledge, the crime of which you were - charged, and convicted still shows up on your record. That being said, United States Border & Immigration can still deny you: if you answer falsely to the following questions;
A) have you ever been finger printed ? [Yes. That is a real question]
B) have you ever been " charged " with a crime ?
C) have you ever been " convicted " of a crime ?
[Keep in mind a pardon which is granted from a Canadian Court Of Law, for whatever reason is not recognized by the United States Border & Immigration Control]

Ryan. You should be telling the subscribers that if they go into the United States for shopping, roughly what the amount is that they are allowed to bring into Canada; "Duty Free". Which if you are out of Canada you are allowed to bring a certain amount of purchased goods back to Canada without having to pay an additional tax on them.

Lol, everything you mentioned is avoidable. You did over dramatize the fish flies. Their swarming is largly dependent on the wind. Keep your lights off at home during the night and use a gas station that pumps for you or buy gas during the day. Construction on EC Rowe can be avoided(use your gps) but I'd argue that Toronto traffic is far worse even if there is no construction there. Other than that, nobody cares that it's hot and muggy we have AC in our cars and homes. The land being flat is not worth mentioning. As far as clubbing, there are some and the Casino has free live bands every weekend. Enjoy Windsor folks.

I'm not sure Detroit is consider a major city even casually now. It was a a major and one of the major American cities along long time ago.
Seems like The sports teams and the some of culture institutions, were just maintained as centre for the whole larger region / county.
Most large scale major concert tours or big acts actually skip Detroit.
Generally Its only bands that are building up an audience that will do Detroit dates. Its a big deal for people who are into live music and bands
The population of Detroit is under 600, 000 and still dropping, so less than Hamilton now. Hamilton had been growing while Detroit is still dropping
Detroit has a metropolitan population of 4 million people. Just like Vaughn and Mississauga are part of the Toronto area, Royal Oak, Tory, Livonia and many other communities are part of Detroit. Also, major acts like Luke Bryan sell out Ford Field annually
Detroit is dead. The freeways are rarely busy and there is just block after block of abandoned neighborhoods and old empty factories. Plus the nogo zones around 7 mile rd after dark. I'll stay in Canada.
