There are those that will throw unlimited cash at amassing this type of collection, basically I want it so tell me the price and those that were collecting before the rest of us realised what collecting was. You can't just replicate this collection that started when the guy was a teenager. It's like I have every throwaway baseball card ever made ever since they went on sale with a stick of gum so how can my mate emulate that? He can't, but he can hope.

I’ve been a collector my entire life, and I can say from experience that you will definitely accumulate a large amount over time but you just have to stay at it. I would also recommend to anyone wanting to start collecting to invest in the vintage items and condition and completeness is very important. Comics, cards, toys, etc. were originally marketed to children who as we all know actually played with stuff, outgrew it, threw it away, etc. so there is a finite amount of it available and will always hold its value.

Slabbing is for suckers. Edit: to be clear, I am all for slabbing books to sell them to suckers, just not paying the premium and collecting them, it's really not that difficult to learn how to grade comics yourself.

Man, do I understand it! Not just the smell, the whole feel. The falling of the pages. The feel of the booklet. The surface of the covers.
And of course the smell of comic books. Old and new.

Great video! A couple of observations: A) I used to think the same way, that such a collection would never be attainable. But a few decades go by, and while my collection isn't as good as what you show here, it's a good distance along the road to being like this collection. It just takes time and patience. B) You said, "I don't even know what some of this is" a few times. You should pick up one or two of the many comic history books out there and learn about these books. It's a great story and you will likely find a few new avenues of interest to build your own collection. You would be surprised how affordable some of these 40's and 50's books still are. C) Finally, the journey is often more enjoyable than the goal. Remember this and enjoy the ride. Good luck!

I would agree that type of collection is beyond the majority of comic collectors at this point. Only those who were invested 30+ years ago and have been continuously collecting will ever achieve this type of collection. I am privileged and saddened at the books that could have been in my collection (at least I have seen/held them) but aren't because at the time I couldn't or didn't afford them. Who knew...hind sight 20/20 I am telling ya!

I had the FF#1 one and it includes a note-perfect reprint of the comic minus the "10c" price on the cover -- and since it came out in 1965 or thereabouts it looks, feels and *smells* like the original but can still be had for a tiny fraction of the cost!

True, some books are out-of-control expensive but there are plenty of awesome books that can be had for hundreds, not thousands. And, the golden age is fun because it's the thrill of the hunt. Good point. I'm approaching pension age & have no clear next of kin. Guessing whoever ends up with my stuff will be scratching there heads trying to figure out how to open the slabs because 'you can't read them'

That was amazing. A labor of love. Glad he has someone to pass on the collection. So none for sale? Your video was great, but wouldn't it be neat for him to be featured in a WV magazine like Goldenseal....best kept secret. Good job. 👍☺️
