Not so amazing as I don't know when it was filmed or where. SanDaoLing was using these in coal traffic until earlier this year (!). Also it could have a boiler beyond repair etc that we can't see inside.
@naguoning maybe. These were built in the 80s I believe. Looks to be a Chinese design. Definitely ragged out though. What's nice though, these locomotives were made as simple as possible so the restoration is definitely not as complex as some others.
@@jordanalexander615 Yes, it is a Chinese design (in Chinese we call 建設 often written as JS in English or alternatively JianShe). They were built up to the late 1980s at Datong but I think some were made in the 1990s elsewhere although most of the steam engines made in China in the 1990s were SYs.
@@naguoningI really like their almost ugly appearance due to the forward casing around and behind the chimney. They remind me of rhinoceros and hippopotamus: extremely strong and muscular. I wish we had one in the UK. Magnificent even at rest. Terrific in steam. The crew were often supplied with small coal and slack (dust). Old, might be history still worth repairing and preserving for showcasing, steam engine trains are quite rare (i think because where we live we do not have trains, like at all almost).
Really rough shape. It's a Chinese JS Class locomotive. Similar locomotives were built in China until 1992. Soon afterward they were rapidly being replaced by electric locomotives. To the Chinese, this is just another old locomotive ready to be scrapped. Dozens of them were sitting next to recycling plants, being scrapped one at a time. I guess it's this one's turn.
Quan Jin (QJ) class steam locomotives were in production into the 1980’s. They were the last mass produced steam locomotives and saw significant use on chinas mining railways. A few of them even made it to the US. Two were purchased by the Iowa Interstate Railway, and another by the R.J. Corman Group. There were also a handful of SY’s and JS’s sent to America. For example, SY-1647M, which was built new for the Valley Railroad, where it operated until it was sold to the Belvedere & Delaware Railway where it continues to operate. It was renumbered as New York, Susquehanna & Western No. 142, and put into excursion service. As for the QJ’s, there were three total shipped to the US surplus. Of the two purchased by the IAIS, the 6988 ran the most excursions. It was retired pending a rebuild to meet FRA regulations and to keep its certification in 2022, and is expected to undergo said rebuild shortly, but there is no guaranteed timetable on when it will begin, let alone when it’ll be ready to return to service. The other QJ, no. 2008 (formerly 7040), which was owned by the R.J Corman Company, is in storage at the Kentucky Steam Heritage Association’s shops. There is likely no intention of returning it to active excursion service. Although one can certainly hope for the 2008 to undergo a cosmetic restoration at the very least.
