21:16 In the establishing shots of Bill’s bunker, we saw he had a huge supply of sulphuric acid. I wondered about that so I did a little research, and it turns out to have been integral to a few things in the story: it can be used to make batteries (like Joel does at the end of the episode), to process chemicals and refine metals-and to purify water. So Bill stockpiling it made sense and explains the clean water and the “battery kit” in the garage fridge.
WOW! I knew about the battery thing, but didn't know the rest. that's good to know. This guy was a true survivalist genius! 😁

49:04 You’re right! The outfits Ellie and Joel end up with here ar exact replicas of the “hero outfits” they wear for most of the game. (They’ve done this before; in episode 1, Sarah was wearing a t-shirt that was a replica of the one she wore in the game.)
Btw, in the earlier “argument” scene, Frank is wearing the green plaid flannel that becomes Joel’s “hero shirt” in the game.

The infected are not reanimated corpses. They are alive, that is why in the game they can be killed by strangulation, cutting the throat or enough shots to the chest.

Fun fact: Nick Offerman didn’t have time to read the script and almost missed it. His wife read it and told him he had to go give it a chance! His real world wife is Megan Mullally, aka Karen from Will & Grace :)

52:01 Bill and Frank were gay (or bi/pan) in the game, but it turns out a lot differently (no game spoilers-but it does allow Ellie and Bill to have some hilarious arguments).
And they _were_ canonically gay from the beginning. So people criticizing the show for being “woke” or whatever for “making Bill gay” are just wrong. (I won’t say too much to avoid game spoilers, but in the establishing shots of Bill’s bunker in the game, there are gay nudie magazines mixed in with Guns & Ammo and his survivalist books.)
The internet is mad and orchestrated a review bomb on this episode on IDmb with 30% of viewing giving it the lowest score possible comparing to between 1 and 2% the previous episode. It just shows you how much a problem the world is because of hatred for human beings wanting to live their life the way they choose to live it. They're insecured about someone's happiness.
And in Episode 4… (which has been aired, but this will be a tiny spoiler if you’re following these reactions episode-by-episode, so look away!)

[Okay, you’ve seen Episode 4? Good.] …Ellie finds one of the magazines in the back seat of Bill’s truck and has an almost word-for-word repeat of the scene in the game. She yanks Joel’s chain by acting as if she’s a confused little kid who’s stumbled on porn and needs parental guidance, and after thoroughly flustering him, she cackles and tosses the magazine out the window with a “bye-bye, dude!”

25:13 The show-runner Craig Mazin (who’s straight) said that he wanted representation of the middle-aged gay male viewpoint, so Frank is played by a gay man (Murray Bartlett) and originally Bill was going to be played by Con O’Neill from _Our Flag Means Death,_ but he had a scheduling conflict. The director (Peter Hoar), editor, and production assistant for this episode were all middle-aged gay men too, so they turned to Nick Offerman because he’s great-but also because he’d feel awkward in the situation just like Bill.
THAT was a BRILLIANT choice. I mean it played well. They made a good call having him play that part. From another commenter I hear he almost passed on it and his wife suggested he do it. That's dope. 😁😁

I've never watched a reaction video with two people more confused about watching an episode and off by all accounts like this one. I laughed so hard at how confused y'all were about EVERYTHING. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Yes, Bill and Frank were in the game. SPOILER FROM THE GAME: Joel already know’s Bill, and comes to meet Bill because Bill is a survivalist and has access to a Battery for a vehicle. Bill travels with you through the town to go to a nearby school that would have supplies. Through that small journey, you find letters (like how in a lot of games, journals, letters, notes; give back story content) that give the back story on Frank and Bill and it eludes that they are indeed a couple. You dont meet Frank, alive at least. In a specific portion, you find Frank’s body hung up and his letter says that Frank had been bitten, and decided to run off and kill himself to not hurt Bill. (Now, some details may be off a bit because it has been a minute since I played the game, but the creator did confirm that Bill and Frank (even in game) were partners romantically. But the way the show depicted it, i think is so much more significant because it gives Joel the motivation to protect Ellie, and that Ellie is Joel’s reason to keep going. Joel is like Bill. He has lost so much in his life, and his love for life. Frank needed Bill to survive in this world and Frank taught Bill to love life and live. Frank traded for strawberry seeds, and painted art, and made the environment around them fill with life. At first, Bill didnt think it was necessary, all he wanted and needed was to survive. But because of Frank, Bill was able to cherish life a little bit more than without him. Which is why he chose to end his life with Frank. Such a heartbreaking and yet beautiful story they were able to create with these characters. I’m so happy they did this. 👏🏼❤️
In the game, Bill was a bit of a different person. He stayed in one place, surrounded by traps, didn't risk going to the other side for supplies/car etc. Frank grew tired of it and decided to get the car by himself, but got bitten in process and hanged himself not to turn. Wasn't out of love and wasn't as happy of a love story, but it also showed how Bill's life had little to no purpose or happiness in it without Frank. In the letter Frank left for Bill he says how he "hates" him. Ofc since games require a lot of action it was different, and ofc they made a different story here, because TV series give a lot more freedom for emotional scenes.
This was a far happier ending for both of them.

You made such great observations! One I also thought of was the water treatment. He may have turned on the electricity and the gas. But who's treating the water? My brother worked in his city's water treatment facility and there are chemicals in ratios that are added to the water supply to make it drinkable.
Right! I mean for how long was this plant able to run "unmanned". unless he was "off-the-grid" regarding his water also... I don't know enough to know how that even works. 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾 but hey, suspension of belief. STILL a great episode! 😁😁

Right, I forget this sometimes due to other show with an outbreak of some sort. Those were "zombies" these are not zombies in that sense. Just zombies in the literal definition, but not in the tv/movie pop culture definition. Got it. 😊😊
10:45 you do get this assault rifle in the game, but it is at the very end. The final level
A lot of gamers were joking about how they had to wait so long to get it and Joel has it so early on here.
But yeah, Joel is def more of a revolver + shotgun + rifle kinda guy.
You get 9 weapons in the game (Listed in the order one acquires the weapons) 9mm pistol, 6 shot revolver, bolt action rifle, bow & arrow, shotgun, shorty, El Diablo (very powerful, scoped handgun that has a very low capacity, home-made flamethrower, assault rifle.
Then you also have a bunch of melee weapons (they break easily). Molotov cocktails, nail bombs, smoke bomb, a brick or a bottle.
So yeah, Joel in the show is VERY much lacking in firepower lol. Makes sense tho. One person in a realistic show cannot feasibly carry all that gear AND crafting material to make the bombs etc.
But at least he picked up a bolt action rifle from Bills' place.

Trying g to watch this before this disappears again lol. Saw it pop up yesterday, thew it in my playlist then went back and it was GONE, removed from feed and playlist. Popped up again next morning in my feed. Put it back in the playlist and disappeared off my feed again but managed to stay on my playlist.

I mean if by “REACTION” you mean mostly sit in silence watching the video and occasionally going “Mm”. 😂 I know a lot of these reaction channels are mainly about getting clicks from people just searching for a free way to watch the show being reacted to (no criticism of you!! hustle hard!!) so you mightn’t be prioritising presentation. But there’s HEAPS of these channels popping up lately so audiences have a lot to choose from.
Reactions don’t need to be exaggerated and forced (I’m sure you know the kind I’m talking about, LOL) but a bit of engagement and analysis of the program will keep people coming back if you’re lucky and the UA-cam algorithm smiles on the channel. :)

@brooke atkins oh I see. It wasn't confusion. It was more disbelief. I HOPED they wouldn't. I knew of the game, and that Bill had a relationship with Ellie [antagonistic relationship] and they didn't like each other, but they hadn't had a chance to meet in the show. I had hoped that he would survive and then be a character on the show going forward. But they didn't go that route.

Gosh , this is not the walking dead fungus or a virus reanimating a corpse sounds like walking dead , there was never a corpse here and joel said it most live (because they are alive sadly) 2-3 months. Some they have been living 20 years.
