if anyone's wondering, notion is free now for personal.
Can we do EVERYTHING what Ali says, in there?

Love that!!!
When you’re taking notes in Notion on how to take notes in Notion
i thought i am the only one who did this

Me right now for reals xD
but if youre taking notes on notion about how to take notes in notion then you dont need to take notes on notion because you already know how to take notes on how to take notes in notion on notion
Uchiha Avenger no he is explaining it in depth. You can be taking notes in notion and following along with the vid
In this video: Watch Ali mess up his Notion content for the sake for demonstration.
Also watch Ali take notes of Fifty Shades of Grey :D
I used active recall, spaced repetition and spreadsheet during the past semester and I got an A for final exam in my first year of medical school. Thank you so much Dr. Ali! 🙏🏻🙂
@The Medical Enthusiast Thank you! :D Yes we do get lecture slides but I find them rather inadequate and just use them as guidelines. Usually, I will go to Google first before starting my revision to get the general rough ideas on particular topics. Then I would form questions based on the learning objectives of the topics and add up the details from the textbooks.
Did you note-take? I need to catch up on so much stuff but dont have time to take notes!
Flume Life make time

@@MOIR I'm so sorry I've only seen this reply! Yes I do note-taking but I only write important stuff or when I revise my questions, I would write down the answers/key points and it would become my notes. instead of copying down everything from the lecture notes which I find rather time consuming. Hope it helps and stay safe where ever you are!

This app just changed the game for me. Literally has EVERYTHING I needed AND I can sync it to my phone and study on the go without carrying my laptop...... I'm so excited to take notes all of a sudden. I wish I had this in first year.
I wish I had this when I was a student as well. Notions, Cornwell Note-taking and an overall new-found curiosity has made learning so fun I practically spend all my free time either in the gym or summarising data from the internet. In just 2 weeks I went from barely knowing how to add a table, now I got a journal, fitness journal, resonance calendar, financial overview, recipe data-base with grocery list. Next goal; figuring out how to create a proper data-bank. Game-changer for sure.
It's ironic how at school we never learned how to take notes or organise our data, just year 1 of high school that could be such a valuable subject. I didn't hear about Cornwell until a week ago. Did start using the toggle function like crazy but for initial notes, it's amazing.
@Nate Fn This was a while ago ahah, but I assume I mean the 'raw' notes I take and later refine into more bite-size and question explaining answers. Toggle keeps it all organised and also allows me to read my notes with 'cheating' and first try to actively recall the answer, toggle open and see if I covered everything, toggle close.
Keeping the raw notes is pointless but at the same time I do like being able to refer to them. Especially after a while to see how I first understood it wrong or what I didn't quite get.
can i ask, do you find it difficult to recall the location of the information?
@@heetzingsoon-2486 what do you mean?
@@heetzingsoon-2486 if you mean do i find it hard to find where I have written certain information, then no, because if you don't know the specific page then you can use the search tool to write a keyword and it will search every single page for that word and from there you can find the information you need.
Making me consider switching Ali 👀
Switching from?
just wanted to say hi
@@MJB_18 he uses notability so l'm assuming he's talking about switching from that
Yeah... Thats what he mean heheh
100% SWITCH. not sure what you were using before but i used one note for notes and notion is definitely better for organizing
When he explained how to properly use cornell notes...I was mind blown! In my 2 years of education in the Philippines and 11 years in the United States, no teacher has been able to properly explain how to use cornell notes. It was explained as a form of note taking but with questions you might have if you don't understand something or are curious about something. It was never explained as a form of taking notes for active recall. I am genuinely in disbelief that I haven't know for this long and have been missing out on such an effective form of note taking. The whole video was very useful for a student willing to learn new ways to effectively learn new topics and am always very greatful for Ali sharing his knowledge. It has helped me a lot as a new college student and I am looking forward to learning more on how to be more productive and how to apply to my life, new forms of learning.

20:30 rip ron for being overshadowed by his two friends that he shares the supervision with 😭
Creating questions instead of taking notes during a lecture has just changed my life. Thanks Ali :)
Three things:
1. The colour of that t-shirt with the vibe of the room just makes the video so nice and cozy. Saw it on your insta as well and that colour is just sick
2. I was wondering how you would go about using the the traffic light system in the retrospective revision timetable in notion. So, the whole emoji thing is really cool and much more fun than adding colours in google sheets.
3. Loving the Harry Potter references. Ron’s description literally made me lol. Hope u do another “the science of Harry Potter” video

Guys at notion made the app free for personal use now. Great people!!
Can you make an episode on essentials of finance that every student should know?
I'd love to see something like this!
This would be amazing!
Save more than you spend, spend on things which bring value to your life i.e. invest.
Don't need a video for that.
Yeah it would be nice
understand the principles behind 'You Need A Budget', it is extremely good and will help manage your finance.
I started using Notion 3 months ago to organize my online business and med school. It's amazing! Thanks Ali!
Okay so I came to learn how to effectively use notion and am going back with this amazingly powerful technique to make notes and use them for memorization too. I am blown. Also I noticed you taking notes from 50 shades of grey so XD, take a bow, sir. A job so well done!!
I do enjoy Notion quite a bit, the nested look of everything is so clean and you don't have to stop to select all of the features--you can use shortcuts as you go for just about every single font color, quotation, callout, toggle, etc. The only downside is the lack of support for handwriting, so I'm still split between OneNote and Notion. Trying to make them work together!
So good 🙌🏻 I used your technique last semester and aced all exams! So so thankful! Also excited for the sunday mail for this week!!!!! 😍
Thank you Ali for all the time and effort you put into these videos. I introduced my brother to your channel and we’ve been building out our notion databases together. Along with applying your study methods to help us progress in our careers. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much! This has changed the whole way I make notes!!!! I can’t believe I never knew this. Thank you. I’ve gone from taking two hours in taking lectures notes to literally an hour to half an hour! Plus I’ve gone digital all thanks to you and Notion. 😊
this video literally changed my perspective TOTALLY
i already knew about the cornell mote taking system, the active recall and the curve of forgetting but i never actually used them + i never thought about the fact that i could apply them to my notion!
thank you very much, this really helped
That “priorities” part at the end of the video really hit home. Thanks Ali!
Found you on Matt`s inner circle. I'm not on uni anymore, but your content has helped me so much to regain focus and motivation with a really hard project at work. Thank you so much. :) Wish you the best!
This is life-changing! The toggle part is exactly what im looking for FOREVER!
So lucky to stumbled upon ur channel, and thx so much 🙏
This is the first video of yours I have watched and I’m a fan, loved the content and look forward to watching others to prepare for my new semester :)
Don’t know if you’ll get to see this, but thank you so much for all the work you put in to these videos! I am a nursing student in the US and you motivate me to learn my material well and to study hard (with the sweet reminder to stay healthy and enjoy life at the end of this video)! I switched to Notion after finding your videos and when I showed it to a classmate, she lost her mind haha. I really appreciate your work, Ali! Looking forward to more content!
You entice me to switch to Notion every time you talk about it Ali. I've finally stopped the resistance, downloaded it and completed the switch!
Ali: actually useful information + no wasting time + well structured
Aliiii! My sister just showed me your channel and I gotta confess I LOVE YOU. I'm a med student and I've come to admire you! Your curiosity and discipline inspire me. Keep it up. Sending you love from Colombia

Wow, I've been taking notes ineffectively my whole life. As a new grad student, this video is super duper helpful and puts me as ease. I was overwhelmed with how much information given in lectures and readings. This simplifies the process. Thank you for the quality, easy to understand content, Notion is the future!
Can't thank you enough for taking the time to teach on how you manage your daily work load. SUPER helpful 🙏🏼
With your notes with the sub-headings and toggles, you can type /contents to add a contents list at the top of the page, and you can click various headings in the list to jump you to that point in the notes.
Not sure if you knew about this, but it makes navigating bigger notes pages a lot quicker
How do I set this up? Any links to templates ?
I love how the notification for this video came onto my screen while I was typing up my questions on notion. I've been using it for a few months now and this video was great help!
But I noticed that as a first year med student, having to write the questions and all their answers is very time consuming and has me constantly worried that I could be spending the time I type the answers doing other things. So I have been trying out just typing the questions for subjects that have good books or lecture notes where I can just go back to the book if i cant remember an answer. I don't know how well that would work but I'm trying it out.
always a pleasure to watch your videos man and thank you for the constant motivation.
Ali has another video (Active Recall Framework) talking about a method like this, where you just write questions without the answers and then look through your lecture notes if you forget an answer. Hopefully it works out for you.
Hussain Memon thank you dude!
This boy is coffee for my brain. Watching his videos in the evening makes me lose sleep because my brain goes into overdrive into how to use notion for my rehearsals, my book reading and studying. I end up looking like a raccoon and end up grumpy the rest of the day. I'm watch your videos in the morning and I kid you not my brain goes lethal and the day goes awesome. I end up a bloody ninja and work super well. I don't waste my day doing nothing. Thank you Ali.
Another brilliantly useful video. There's tons out there about how to use Notion but Ali has a gift for explaining things and cheering me up at the same time.
I found this channel only a few days ago and I've watched every possible video.
Awesome. Why didn't i find it sooner ?
Does it help u? Like notion and active recall?
The sparkle in his eyes when he talks about Notion... Made me switch!
OMG, Ali thank you so much for sharing this type of information! I'm going to migrate from Evernote to Notion and your channel is the best thing I've found this year!! Thank you again, youre a rock!
The truly great thing about notion is that so many people have their own unique thing that makes notion the best thing for them. Because it can do so many things so well that you can pick your favorite tools and ignore the rest.
Wish we had these tools in my university days. In this era of tech, if you're a puntual and attentive student with a good note taking ethic, you can organize your college notes and make them into different textbooks. Learning is more fun today.
But there are also soooo many distractions now. When I go on my laptop, all I want to do is watch UA-cam!
ua-cam.com/video/E-7k4MXG1y0/v-deo.html
Thank you, man, for existing !! cheers
Your passion for teaching others is such a gift - I think you could teach how to dig a hole and have people excited to dig that hole with you.... I was excited to pass this info onto my sister who is currently studying at Uni - thanks Ali 👍👍🤓
I got notion for free thanks to my new school email. I'm starting my first year of medical school in about a week after taking a one year gap so I'm scared I don't remember how to study anymore but watching your videos for the past week has helped a lot in figuring out how I want to study. Thanks a lot!
No joke, I laughed out loud when I saw Ron's description hahahah!
Been working a lot recently on transferring my notes to Notion and have seen a great improvement on my overall organization. Definitely beats having 6 different files in different places when studying for tests!
Hey Ali, you are what I would call a superhero without a cape. Your videos are always so cool to watch and filled with uncluttered information. I always walk away feeling like I've learned something so, THANK YOU.
Incorporating active recall into note-taking in this way is absolutely brilliant and easy to implement, thank you so much
Hi Ali, not sure if you’ll read this, but I absolutely love the table where you had all the relations and essays showing up that’s related to the specific topics. I was wondering if you could upload a template version or make a tutorial video on how you did this? Thank you 😊
Damn that keyboard is phenomenal.
I evolved your method on the Resonance Calendar that I call Key Takeaways.. .
I work in IT and I have to spend around 10 hours a week studying to keep current (thankfully my company pays for my training portal!), I've re-thought my methodology to be more academic based and used a mix of notion & anky flash cards to learn concepts, theory and new techniques. Thanks for the tips Ali, much appreciated.
I’ll be attending Johns Hopkins this fall and, even though I’ve excelled in high school, I’m terrified about how I will preform in college. I’ve been watching your channel ever since freshman year but now, more than ever, you make me feel like i’ll be alright in college and more prepared. Im less scared now. Thank you. ❤️
Dr. Ali and Dr. Jubbal have the best study tips on UA-cam 💪
Pls do a video on how to write a first/high first level exam essay, I know you did a how to memorise essay plans for exams but I’d love to see how you actually structured those essay plans and the research/study process behind them
Thank you, THANK you, THANK YOU! This is exactly what I needed. I watched this video an hour or so ago; and I’m already enjoying it SO much!
Watching Ali’s videos are my productive day routine!
I remember watching this video and it made me want to start to use Notion, though I soon abandoned it after because it was too hard. But a friend recommended it again, and I LOVED it this time round. Been using it for my last 2 semesters. I usually handwrite my lecture notes while listening to live lectures and then transfer them to my Notion. I found that the toggle, highlighting and coloring tools are really good for active recall, and love how fun it is to make my notes look pretty, it made note-taking less painful. I’m a CS student, but I mostly use this for my humanities, language and business electives. 😚
I’m not even lying when I say that I saw a great improvement in my grades after using this app! This app is a LIFESAVER. Thanks Ali for recommending it!
wow. After watching this video I was thinking about how can I use Notion for my CS class.
Thanks for sharing your tips :).
Where have you been all my life? I have ADHD and trying to retain new information in nursing school has been VERY HARD. Keep the tips coming. Please!!!!!
I love your content! it's so organized and this is the only video that's given me a clear picture of organizing notion.
you're multi-talented 👀
What makes Notion powerful is it combines standard Outliner functionality with Tables. The content on retaining information is priceless.
Ali I used your active recall method for my GCSE mocks and I got all 9s (high A*s) literally all because of simple question and answer so thankyou!!
How do you use active recall please guide me
really like the asking/testing yourself by listing the questions instead of listing the actual information.
I'm going back to uni next month after 6 years not studying, these videos are giving me some brilliant ideas on how I can make the best out of my time there. THANK YOU!
Thank you Ali ^^ As a homeschooler self studying most of the time, this notion app is really helpful. I thought Anki was the only solution but I realized I must have somewhere where I can store all relevant information. This notion app is so good! Aiming to be a cardiologist! Thank you Ali!

Hey for the retrospective revision time table you can color the dates like in your google sheets table! Mark the text and press ctrl+shift+h and then it colors. A context menu will pop up and you can even choose the background color so the whole cell colors red, yellow or green if you like

I've seen this dude before a couple months ago, and I never watched his videos but I thought he looked snarky or arrogant. But dude this guy's recommendations for spaced repetition and active recall is something that I am really enjoying. School starts in a few weeks and I've already started to develop my notion and use the "Google sheets" method for planning for an exam. You're dope Ali.
Lol that fifty shades clip is EVERYTHING
Onenote has had that toggle feature for over a decade. You just have to tab over, then double click the grey arrow that shows up to the left of the main heading. This will make a + sign that hides the subheadings or bullets that are under this main heading. It is actually one of the main things that I use to quiz myself.
hey, do you mind expanding a little? i tried and not getting the result desired. Thanks!
This app is a whole game changer, I got it and have been inputing all my notes this past couple hours and I can't believe there is app so organized that I literally recommended it to friends and family who are in school or even taking notes on anything
this just made my life so much easier. Thanks, much appreciated Ali.
Fifty shades of grey hahah you kill me Ali 😂😂

Talk about writing an essay for different types of assignments I.e. structure, reports etc. Referencing styles
I'M A FIRST YEAR MED STUDENT AND I WAS STRUGGLING IN NOTE TAKING THANK YOU
you're so subtlety and effortlessly funny!! This video helped a lot on how to setup my notion without all the aesthetic aspects
I'm new to Notion and came here for an overview; thanks to Ali for providing one. What Ali calls "togging" here-"the single best thing about Notion"-is called "folding" of an outline. Lots of outliner apps support folding (OmniOutliner is a well-known one among Mac users), and some text editors have plug-ins or extensions that provide it. The "game changing" capability of being able to move part of the hierarchical document into a node of the outline has been supported by outliner apps for a *long* time.
I liked the idea of integrating the Cornell approach into an outliner. That technique could be used with any outliner, so it's a tip with much broader applicability than just to Notion.
From what I see here, what seems to me to be the game-changing aspect of Notion is combining capabilities of an outliner, a spreadsheet/database app, and a Wiki (i.e., a mini-web of diverse linked content) in one unified environment that also supports metadata ("properties"). It seems to me to be about synergy-no offering the most capable outliner, or spreadsheet, or Wiki, etc., but offering *just enough* in each category to make the combined tool greater than the sum of its parts.
I'm a little confused, when learning the content should we write it like Ali did for Cardiac or do we write it note form like he did for nerves?
Am I the only one who noticed him taking notes of 50 shades of grey hahaha. Good video, great sense of humor.
i came every of your notion videos to understand how to use notion. thank you so much

Hey Ali, can you make a video on Notion for iPad? I feel like it is way more limited that the desktop app. Thanks in advance
I'm very happy that i found your channel. This note taking app has been a game changer for me.
this is awesome. The demo itself and the whole method of studying. My son goes to medical school -- so this is super appropriate :)
Does anyone know on where can I find the Notion template that he's using in the video?
I mean when it comes to the app, I find it working so slooow on Android (and all my other apps move damn fast).
With Evernote - no issue whatsoever.
Great content overall, tho'!
I've found this so helpful and I'm now using Notion for Uni, Work and personal work goals I want to achieve. Thank you for all the videos like this they really help! Just one note on how my experience in studying relates to some things you said here - I never tested myself when studying and always just wrote notes and mind maps etc. and this was simply because I was scared I would get everything wrong. If I were to get things wrong whilst learning and studying I would feel useless and panic that I would never be able to learn anything, so basically didn't allow myself the chance to start progressing because I thought I had to know it all straight away. This might be a good topic to speak on, because I think apprehension and the feeling that you have to be the best and understand everything straight away can be the biggest hindrance to learning. I think it needs to be taught more in schools etc that the whole point is that you won't get everything right at the beginning and that's ok, and not to be discouraged by it, just keep testing yourself and you'll become a pro. Thanks for helping me realise this!
I'm coming UK in 2021.
I'm a med student from India.
And this is just amazing and so inspiring to see.
Thank you for putting yourself out and inspiring many of us.
