- Note-taking on iPad should be useful, help you learn faster, and retain information, not give you hand cramps. The problem is, we never learn how to take notes that actually do that, and end up getting lost in features and aesthetics instead of actually learning. It took me years of practice and happy accidents to discover these secret note-taking tips that only the top 1% learners and students do to study smarter and also enjoy the process.

PS. These tips also work with pen & paper 👀 We are excited to announce that Study Quest is HERE! 🌲www.cajunkoi.com/landings/study-quest
You don't need an iPad to use these tips. How to apply these tips with Analog Tools:
It can be done with just pencil and paper. You can also use a whiteboard and sticky notes for easier editing.
1. Draw Lines and Arrows: Can be done with whatever pen or pencil you are using on paper
2. Positioning: To change positioning of images and text, draw the new position again on another paper or the next page in your notebook. If using a whiteboard and sticky notes, rearranging and editing is easier. You can just move the sticky notes around where they make sense. You can also cut/tear pieces of paper, write the concepts on those papers and move them around until you are happy with the arrangement. Then you can draw that in your notebook.
3. Be Expressive: With just a pencil, vary size, go over lines to make words more bold, underline, and circle. You can also use any other drawing tools like markers, colored pencils, colored pens, etc.
4. Personal Icons: These can be drawn with the previously mentioned tools
5. Leave a trail: Save previous versions of notes drawn on paper, or take pictures of previous versions with any device camera. You could say a digital camera is not analog, but it does save time if you have access to one. During initial versions of your notes, keep them simple and don't spend too much time on them! You want to feel comfortable abandoning one draft for an updated version.
6. Use Pictures AND Words: Just use any of the previously mentioned drawing tools to create pictures and words.
The main advantages of using an iPad or another tablet is that it is easier and takes less time to edit your drawn notes by using cutting and pasting and the "undo/redo" functions. It is also easier to make new copies and save previous versions of your notes.
The main advantages of using analog tools is that they are cheaper and more accessible. Analog tools may also be less distracting since you can't get notifications, open up game apps, check email, etc.
Great tips by the way. Definitely going to use them, and as an educator, teach them to the students I work with.
Couldn't have said it any better! Thank you so much.
If you or your students have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me here, and I will help clarify whatever issues they have.
@@CajunKoiAcademy does all my notes have to be in mindmaps? Is it ok to just take like normal written notes?
@mqngoe0 If your brain prefers normal written notes and your concepts are clear, then absolutely.
As long as you can recall your thoughts well without problems then I don't see why not.
This is so helpful. I've started mind mapping not long ago but stopped since I notice that I ended up simply paraphrasing everything and just added some arrows
Ideas in this video:
#1. Drawing arrows to connect concepts and ideas.
#2. Positioning information by relevance. Central or less important ideas
#3. Being expresive: Adding certain color or expresiveness to increase clarity.
#4. Personal icons: Special and personalyzed reminders to represent information.
#5. Leave a trail: Honestly this one is not very clear to me. Is related to connecting and comparing recently acquired vs learnt knowledge to see progress.
#6. Visual cues: Adding visual elements to complement text. A picture is worth a thousand words.
I hope this resumes in a clear way the main ideas and advices on this video. Leave a like so I can re-read this comment and remember the ideas hahaha.
You got it! Well explained.
You have been helping me with all those study tips for the past year now thank you for all your help. Also if you are free can you make more study with me videos?
Thank you for the video, Mike and Matty!
I'm at the start of med school and trying to learn the most efficient method to study as fast as possible so I can stay organized.
Do you have any tips for organizing all the concepts we make?
When do we know we must finish a concept and start a new one?
I'm asking this because in medical school we quickly realized that practically all disciplines (so concepts) are connected.
Thank you for your help and attention!
I'm sorry for any inconvenience!
Thank you for creating such an informative video on maximizing iPad usage; it provided valuable insights and tips that will greatly enhance my experience!
Thank you so much! I wish i could learn it at school, but anyway, it's also good, that i can use it now, as a student!
If you use a Galaxy or Pixel phone please buy a Samsung Galaxy tablet they are so good, I made the switch from iPad to Galaxy Tab S8 and have a complete ecosystem of galaxy devices that works seamlessly together and offer much more customization and procuctivity features than apple will probably ever offer, also spen comes free in the box and has a soft nib that's much nicer than Apple penc and spen doesn't need to Charge to work
Brother , I am always a huge fan of your beautiful teaching styles ❤👌
Hope the cost of the course will be affordable 😊. Eagerly waiting for it 🙏
Would love to get Goodnotes settings. Pen sizes, colors etc. as well as papers
Your videos are the most useful to me compared to any others on UA-cam.
1:09 I agree. Matty, you’re great 🤩🤩
And you are awesome!
This is so cool and detailed! Ive been wanting to start how to mindmaps
Awesome! Keep me updated on how you do! I am excited to see the end product.
would you recommend making mind maps and also highligth the book or first highlight all the book and then star studyng mind maps?
You saved me years of learning it by myself. I appreciate you guys
Our pleasure! I am so glad to hear that it helped!
Which tip was the most helpful for you?
@CajunKoiAcademy Lines, positioning, leaving a trail. I implemented these tips heavily by now. The other three are also worth implementing
So, we’re just gonna ignore 1:09 ?
Isn't this basically what Justin Sung has already been teaching for years now?
Needed this. I started mind mapping the last 2 months and I need to add some spice to it. Thanks
Glad to hear that! How do you feel about it? What your thoughts so far on your new mind map?
@@CajunKoiAcademyI love it. I enjoy reading and studying more because I’m not writing notes word for word. Just big ideas and concepts. And I remember the material better.

the tips are great, but when do you suggest is the best time to make notes using the tips you mentioned? after class? before an exam? because clearly in the class room its tough to build your notes while your instructor is just fastly going through the concepts.
During school, after a lecture is ideal. It will help you not only test your learning but figure out the gaps in your knowledge so you can ask your professors later.
You shouldn't be making notes during exams but refining and revising them.
What app you use in iPad for taking nite
How would you use this for pharmacology?
Which mic are you using!!!!
I don't have an iPad due to my parents' finances (I only have a laptop), what videos or study methods would you recommend to be able to make notes in a normal notebook and make it more efficient?
I don’t use the ipad but I use the same method shown in the video on paper/notebook. On laptop, I use OneNote bcoz of the endless page feature and it’s easier to add txt/boxes anywhere on the page.
@@VJ-no9ug Thanks is a good advice
and also , do you print your content to study or do u study directly on the ipad ?
Step 1- Get an IPad
Step 2-Get Apple pencil
Step 3 buy goodnotes😂
fuck I screwed up already...
@@LifeGameDesign 😂
Step-0 = Use any tool you are comfortable with
*Note* = We just prefer apple because that's what we have. 🤣
@@CajunKoiAcademy i too prefer apple (for tabs ) just dont have enough money 💰😂
This video seems quite similar, I think I have seen a similar video with the same content but with different names of the key points, ah I see it's a Justin Sung mind map video with their touches or something, not to say that i like their videos too
You don't have to mind map to take notes. Some notes can't be mind mapped easily, so you might just be used to writing it down. The key is explaining the info in the way you can understand. Most textbooks don't use that method, they require you to learn other topics. Like math, or basic vocab.
What app are you using for note taking??
Not only Ipad...
But also other android tablet and Matepad (huawei's) with stylus support.
BTW its still apply to me as welk thank you for the tutorial.
Sorry to brag guys cuz im a Huawei Matepad 11.5 user heheheheh
Guys, remember that everyone is different. If you feel like one way is better FOR YOU then other, just do whatever is better for you. To me, this method don't work, but I use when I feel like, to see if I really learn a content. If someone want to know (like it is important) I'm a psychology student.
Absolutely, I agree with you there! If it works, it works but please don't force this method on yourself if it doesn't work for you.
1:09 we can all agree to that!
Step 0: Have 2284$
It works with paper and pencils. Develop a brain. It sounds like you are dum dum
It's 2020 ipad
How can you use this method when learning a subject or studying a career that is not so easy to separate. Into words or small concepts, like philosophy or the study of literature
Maybe try to describe the concept in your words? 2 line sentences in bullet points.
Put everything under headings and write down how it fits in the grand scheme of things.
is it necessary to get an ipad or any other tab and a pencil cuz i can't afford one so is there any other app to work with on laptop??
You can use good ol' pencil and paper! iPad or Android tablets are for people who prefer digital tools.
Also, you definitely can use other products besides Apple! We use iPad that's why the video focuses on Apple more.
@@CajunKoiAcademyi see okay !. i used to have a tablet but it broke . anyways thank you so much for the help
LOVE YOU GUYS ♥♥♥♥
I love your videos🇵🇸🇵🇸
But I'm a slow Lerner 😢😢😢
What case is that?
What note app is that?
I think it’s Goodnotes6
GoodNotes. He said in the beginning of the video. 1:33
I still prefer hand written notes & books - lets, see what I can do, video was interesting.
there are so many courses to learn in medicine, is it profitable to make this kind of notes from books?
but most of these note taking stuff are for when you do your research. not when you are in class and the teacher is covering so much matterial that you cant even write the titles. let alone the diagrams and shapes!
You can do a rough draft version of the concepts - be it a crude sketch, 1 to 2 line descriptors or place-holders that would remind you where to add what works as much.
And if you can't do that, don't worry, you can very well just absord the information, write what you think you'll forget and just create your proper mindmap at home.
Hi sir I want your help
4:19
I use a Samsung Tablet with a Samsung Pen.
I use the app concept.
But the issue is my handwriting isn't that great I wish that there was an A.I. Feature that automatically 'cleaned' it...
As long as you can understand your writing then it should be fine but if it takes you few minutes to hours to transcribe what you've written then it does need work.
How bad are we saying?
@CajunKoiAcademy not that bad, but i like it to be better 😔
Thank you for your advice 😊
Name of the app ???
Goodnotes 6
Why shifted from REM notes to Notion ? Not long ago your chanel was all about Rem Notes
Remnote is inherently lower order
Step 1 : get an iPad
Step one before yours : get a sugar daddy 😂
@@murmureetpensees4599😂 true
you can use paper as well
I mean no shit lmao
considering 'on ipad' is in the title of the video, you are being an illogical troll.
also, to further your failed logic, you can replicate a lot of this on traditional pen and paper. an ipad is a tool for convenience.
I tried this method in study design foundations but i found its not helpful for my engineering and related branch this doesn’t work maybe for remember the list of points and equipment but that a little the huge thing is the equation and example so what you need is solve by hand thats what i found helpful
Could you elaborate on that? What didn't work for you using this method and what kind of changes did you make to make it work?
@@CajunKoiAcademy
I am a civil engineer and the study in this branch maybe 90% designs and solving example. I know understanding the concept is important but not all things so i used this method only for understanding the big concepts what i want to say the physics and engineering solving problems is a major thing and this method that you explain in video is good to understand the concept but that doesn’t make you an engineering or physics scientist. That’s my opinion and if you have or anybody have better methods please tell me
@hassaneinakader5185 Have you looked at the PSA methods video? Might be of help?

@@CajunKoiAcademyunfortunately I didn’t see this video. thank you for mentioned it bro
You dont even have to draw. Just copy paste clipart. or pics and write over them instead of drawing them.
And make your own shorthand for commonly used words.
box off different topics to know they are one topic and it is linking to another one. I usually create notes on infinite canvas so it can get fuzzy where one topic ends and where another begins. You are linking topics but sometimes you do need to know the boundaries. So boxing off helps.
Eu não sabendo o que significa a caveirinha
justin sung?
I suppose they are iCanStudy member
They have collaborated before and are inspired by Justin's system
Please use a pop mic. The squelching from your speech is distracting.
Great video though
I want to join your academy so that i can make similar content for indian students in Hindi
Tony Buzan
can you get an infinite canvas on good notes 6??
You can use any app, any device you'd like.
Even pen and paper works! You just need to adjust the advice to match the tool you are using.
Then what if it’s about something like philosophy? It’s everywhere and not drawable 😅
as a music producer fella, that tip related to music production and note taking sounds really useful, appreciate it bro
Glad to hear that! What kind of music do you create?
rookies edited the text that came through from Santa 👀
