- Gundam Witch From Mercury is the best yuri anime this year. Not really, but it's cool that fans think Miorine and Suletta wanna bang. It's certainly not the best in the Gundam franchise, but it definitely worked in attracting a new audience, myself being one of them, so it's definitely gonna be more of what we get from now on.

Man i love this show. Yeah i feel it's a bit rushed but overall episode by episode it has its highs.
If you’re watching weekly it is a bit better. It def has stinkers, but it’s more palatable. Even watching it one go like I did for the second half, it was still mostly fun to do with the exception of like three episodes.
After watching eps 21-22 this is basically just Unicorn with yuri

Honestly, WFM isn't all that different from other Gundam shows outside of the fact it took almost a full two seasons for things to start to cook off. And while yes, lesbian protags attracts people who might not normally see Gundam otherwise, it has hardly saved the franchise, because it didn't need saving. Sunrise has been making increasing amounts of money off Gundam since 2019. WFM certainly gave it a jump and a considerable one at that, but the real question is did the numbers WFM bring in have staying power? Will the WFM formula ACTUALLY pay off long-run? When WFM ends, will Sunrise's next show be able to attract those same fans who came because of the yuri-baiting and school setting? And if the next show doesn't follow the same pattern as WFM, are these new fans going to be receptive? This all remains to be seen. Another thing to point out in the rise of gunpla sales is that gunpla has had a lot of...repetition the last decade or so. Look how many goddamn Unicorn kits they made. New kits with new designs are going to cause a rush to buy them because they're actually new kits with new designs. But here too there's been a rise in people who collect and build gunpla who haven't and probably won't watch the shows and movies and just like building models. So it'll be interesting if the WFM wave keeps going or if things peter out. I personally didn't see the fuss all the older fans were making. But then this was the exact same crowd the bitches and moans every time there's a new entry in the franchise that isn't in the UC. Each non-UC show is suddenly the "worst thing ever" and "destroying Gundam" and their fans "aren't real fans". Makes me want to drop a colony on them.
WFM isn’t all that different? The lack of Space vs Earth War says otherwise, and the forced romance arc is garbage to the point where even Wing has a better romance arc, while Gundam never being about romance at it’s core. Agree with the rest though. Give it a couple months and it’ll die out just like how Darling in the Franxx did
WFM was garbage in Gundam standards. Although in normal anime/financial it did just fine
Honestly if anyone asks this is the first time they made a 24-25 Episode max duration and it is making it in simple terms a unique check to see if it works
Also if someone ask it's actually addressed if the series end early the manga or novel does mention and they made a novel for online use which is CRADLE PLANET and it helps on 1 context people are waiting for certain
But also for the series I didn't see any bad decisions so far but they are attempting to do something different

Are the SRT games official things or fan-made like a lot of Touhou stuff?
@@To-To basically what amounts to fanfics that the original creators acknowledge with their blessing. For example Eva getting in the roster was something Hideaki Anno made sure of because he was just as much of a fan of the game series~
Gundam series since the early 90s have been "rush rush rush" in terms of the flow of the story. Thankfully, the saving grace for the Witch From Mercury (also known as the Ad Stella timeline) is the general absence of the usual love triangles due to having a profound yuri element. And I like how this is a very refreshing Gundam series. But seriously, the prequel novel for the Ad Stella timeline, Cradle Planet (ゆりかごの星), explains almost at least half of the missing background info and the story themes behind it. Ad Stella timeline is as deep as the Gundam Seed universe (also known as the Cosmic Era timeline) and that's a good thing.

From what I recall both the tank fire and the Sturm (mobile suit in question) never did the firing themselves, was the Aerial with the whole “Permit field override.”
I find it funny that it has a name, but no whoever shot first (I think it was the tank??) was Prospera, yes, but all fire afterward was just retaliation/fear. That's fine for the humans with no giant robots, but they show us how what's being fired at his MS isn't really hurting it at all, but he freaks out anyway.
I'd call him a shit soldier, but it doesn't seem like they actually were. They were more like bodyguards/a private military.
@@To-To Maybe I’m just remembering things weirdly but I coulda sworn I remember the pilot of the suit saying he couldn’t control his suit. Idk looking back at it after the finale it kinda seems moot to discuss anyway. (Cuz nothing more came out of it tbh…)
good video but i feel like this is just from your perspective, i don't see all these problems you're talking about, besides the side characters being underdeveloped which i can forgive cause they're busy progressing the main cast

I've seen all of the UC timeline and G Witch is one one of my absolute favorites. Gonna miss it each week.
For as bad as it was, it was better than 79 -- the only other one I've seen -- and I did typically enjoy my time with it outside of certain episodes.
@@To-To I mean it's all personal preference because I loved both G Witch and 79. Gundam does have some really bad entries though like Twilight Axis, Narrative, and the first half of ZZ. My only real complaint with G Witch is I wish it was longer to further establish the characters and universe.

Always love these videos despite its low popularity because of its unbiased pretty straight forward and straight to the point content that doesn’t skip a beat to what the story/core elements of an anime is, and as well as pointing out and pointing its flaws and even tinier things that make these videos simple, straight forward, but very interesting to watch. Oh and as well as the comedic aspect, that’s a nice touch.
As for the anime itself, never watched it, only heard about it and checked some scenes out but it doesn’t look too bad and from you and other people have said it certainly looks like a good show to watch on your free time. But other than that, never seen it, and pretty much only here to watch this new video, comment on it, and see your take on this anime.
Hell, I didn’t even know they continued it like a week or two ago until this video!
Hopefully you have been doing well personally, and with any personal stuff going on I can just hope for the best and wish you the best of luck, but I just really hope to see you soon and keep seeing the content from here!

as far as it goes, the show is a safe introduction to gundam for new fans. for the older fans, its serviceable but with a lot of flaws. at least the music and mech fights are fire 🔥🔥

The finale with the next 2 episodes will probably be nice to watch, with Eri ending up having the final word.
I just think that on episode 14 to 18 they attempted to provide some attention to some side characters to provide more views on the events unfolding. Yet I think on these fronts less related to the cute scenes, havent landed as well as they couldve.
Well at least now we do have Caliban as The Witch MS with that gigant thruster that looks like a broom.
Yet, we forget that IBO had enough time in the oven and somehow still found ways to disappoint fans.
Can you really blame them? Seasonal anime scheduling has been do or die for so many shows, it’s gotten worse for franchises that rely on long shows…

I've watched Gundam series (due to family being fans) and honestly didn't give AF about any of the cast before WfM. They were impressive, sure, well written, of course, but i didn't *care* what happened to them and didn't look up fan art or comics of them. It was like, one episode would impress me, then I'd forget about it bc I'm not invested emotionally in the cast. WfM has done the impossible and made a previously non-mech genre fan like me spend a ton of money on books, merch, and even buy and build gunplas. The entire cast of WfM is wonderful, from Martin to Chuchu, Felsi to Belmeria.

The show was just too fast paced for me. I had to watch most of the episodes twice just to catch all the important information. I hope it gets a second season but hope they slow it down.
not sure how Yuri saved Gundam especially if your talking long run, I mean you may argue it brought fans from the yuri community, but well these yuri fans sticks and start watching every other non yuri gundam show or even stick around to watch the next Gundam series that may not go this direction?
From its inception Gundam was deliberately written to appeal to yaoi and Yuri shippers, which were ACTUALLY the ones who held the franchise afloat after "true fans" lost interest, going so far as to confirm Char as "at least" bisexual according to Tomino, Gundam would physically have to attempt to not appeal to Yuri fans.
It's also cute that you think other Gundam shows won't go the route of explicit gay relationships considering the absolute financial juggernaut that is SuleMio. Even back in IBO, despite hating most of season 2, the only problem fans had with they gay characters was that they weren't explicit, and goddamn did Sunrise listen.
@@Peasham that's pretty lame, especially considering that SuleMio is one of the worst-written ships I have ever had the displeaser of seeing, and this all enforces the fact that people don't give a shit about the quality of writing, and even if the ship was well written, what does that get to do with selling merchandise? Bandai isn't here to sell ships between characters, they are here to sell figures that have nothing to do with what the characters are doing in bed, this I why I said that in the long run, it's bad for business, and seeing how the west tried this with multiple IPs like Toy story and the Buzz movie clearly showing that Sunrise is on it's way to share the same fate

Anyway fun fact, Steven Universe and Owl House were cancelled multiple times due to their LGBTQ+ themes and characters, only to get renewed multiple times after the company saw the absolute astronomical amount of money being brought in by said shows, the financial profitability of genuine gay inclusion in media is so incredibly powerful that it's immune to cancellation.
And the vast majority of character merch relating to G Witch characters and their respective mobile suits is either completely sold out or facing massive shortages the world over, aside from Shaddiq because no one likes him.

Steven Universe and Owl House ended because their stories concluded, not because they were cancelled. If inclusion made franchises fail then SU and OH would've failed.
Official statements from bandai saying that they're barely keeping up with the demand for specifically G Witch gunpla and the fact that most of the gunpla and character merch on every online retailed is either sold out, had all their pre-orders filled out, or sells out after they get it in stock in just a few days, if not hours.

I like G-Witch. But Yuri didnt save it. Gundam never needed saving. Just a new anime or manga eith messages about war. Thats what gundam is fundamentally, an anti war pic that alot of people. Including shippers and people who only care about interpersonal drama see. They dont want politics or hard thpugjt questions proposed to them. They want the same bland shit that is being pushed out every year.

Most of the show was like that, but those eps in particular were pretty bad. It was making them money, but I suppose they wanted to end it quickly because only Tomato and Chicken Head were. Stuff like Shaddiq's robot weren't selling at all.

A shame too because if the show has enough screen time to setup for the final episode, they could've gotten even the oldschool gundam fans aboard the Yuri shipping AND fixed Shaddiq's robot not selling just by giving them more time to cook. I agree with you 101% on this review and it's sad that Sunrise wasted such great potential so much so that 2 more seasons would definitely give them more time to milk our wallets with their merch for much longer.

I really hated this show. The setting has no stakes the characters are boring and if the anime continues on this woke Trend that it is going to the same ash heap of history that Hollywood is going into.
Millions were at stake in the final episode and Gundam was always woke, seethe.

And by some people's standards sure, but people act like Gundam has never been political or had "woke" themes at all in the past. The original series and many afterwards are very much Anti-war, and from what I've heard Reconquista has themes of environmentalism. A couple of gay characters hardly seems like the most woke thing in this franchise. It's just peoples prejudices shining through or a complete lack of media literacy for the older series. It took an anime where they say straight to your face that they're gay for people to pick up on it.

What UC series are you referring to? When i hear this it seem the only series you have in mind are Zeta and Victory, but that's not the entirety of the UC and in most UC series (including 79, where basically there's like, how much, two deaths from the main cast?) there aren't that much deaths

Yup. It’s mid as a Gundam. If it wasn’t named Gundam and have Gundam looking mobile suits it’d probably be an 9/10 if they actually took more time to build the romance arc and have it flow naturally not forced. But yeah I really have more problems with the show’s apologists than I do the actual show, most of them only watched it for the “omg lesbian girl protagonist, I’m a gundam fan now”. Just look at the subreddit you can’t say anything negative about the show even while using logic without a negative downvote.

I tapped out just before the “Shall We Gundam?” episode. Just like Captain Harlock (HOLY CRAP, THAT LAST MOVIE WAS AWFUL!!!!) this new series shows what happens when a franchise goes on life support. The core tenants of what made it either good or memorable cannot cohere with the rapid-fire modern industry that is built on cheap products designed to be disposed when the next new similar product comes out. I suspect that “Gundam Evolution” was also rushed out to coincide with the release of WFM. It’s still an absolute mess, which is why the game is dead. (At least I have “Deceive Inc.” to play now! :-D Yes, this is a plug. PLAY IT!!!!)
Just watch. Gundam sales will plummet again soon and the next standard rom-com infused mecha series won’t do nearly as well since it will be swallowed by the increasing volume of mindlessness. It may still be a success, but each iteration will receive diminishing returns.

its 90% ass with a 10% of good, and that what killed me. Yeah its cool we get new gundam fan, but most of them are the equivalent of a tourist and the gunpla sales is mostly thanks to having good and finaly new and original gunpla in years that not just the same remake or updated version of a old one.
