I gotta give props for actually coming back and revisiting it once the anime had more time to breathe to give a much better take on it! I especially loved that twist that you incoporated in the video, in the same vein of the show, of pretending you thought the show did a complete heel turn into grimdark before coming back and explaining that the real strenght of the show is the tonal juggling between these two, seemingly incompatible elements! The first few weeks of this show had it be completely overshadowed, which is how the manga was at first, but the anime had a lot less time to actually catch the audience to have the attention needed for a season two, but I'm glad that the moment the manga exploded, the anime did so aswell (the Red Dragon of course). Props to the anime comunity for demonstrating that they CAN stick through a show's slow start!
Came for a positive Anime review who appreciates the Anime and Characters, but stayed because of your editing skills and beautiful voice. Can't believe you have only this many subscribers. Keep it up. I hope your videos get the attention they deserve!
The resurrection magic helps a lot in keeping the tone light. It allows such a dark scene to happen, while reducing the consequences of the monster attack. The audience still feels panicked during the fight, because the party will pretty much stay dead if everyone dies, but it can return to comedic once everyone gets resurrected.
To me it just removed all meaning from the character deaths. What's the point in horrifically slaughtering a bunch of characters only to resurrect them and then make inappropriate jokes about it to boot? This kind of shit works in a D&D session, but in a coherent story it just feels unnecessary. If you're gonna kill off characters, make it stick and make their death mean something.
@@Clovericiousbecause there is no "character death" yet apart from Falin, whose reversing of her death led to a terrible backfire. It's been stated or at least hinted early on (or half way, i forgot) that death can be reversed in the dungeon. Meaning that death isn't a card to play yet as long as Marcille or any other magic-user was still around, and that is made very clear. However, this doesn't take away from the intensity and fear of dying. The characters are often shocked and scared when someone dies because why tf wouldn't you be? They have such natural reactions to someone dying right before them while still keeping the information that a) they can help the deceased as long as they deal with... b)... the threat that's right in front. But just becayse they can be brought back doesn't mean that person dying doesn't mean anything since that's one person less to help, and also one more body to make sure doesn't get grinded down to ensure the soul doesn't hsve a body to return to. I think it's safe to make something a "character death" when they're truly out of the picture, the cause of the death and the people reacting will know very well that they're gone. But none of the characters in the dungeon react this way because death is reversable. But just because they know death is reversable, doesn't mean they'll just tank blow after blow. If everyone dies, including your healer, their souls will have to wait until someone else revives them, and who knows how long that may take or if the next griup of adventurers would even want to do that.
i was pleasantly surprised how the tone changed so well, especially with its genre. theres only a few stories that executes this perfectly ill read the manga soon after the anime first season is finished ❤
1:40's "The same way you can be passionate about..." Triggered my ad read fight or flight and I was hovering to skip forward when I realized there wasn't going to be a sponsor there
This has apparently happened to many people lol. I'm not big enough to get sponsors yet, but if I did I'd likely try to integrate them better than that, like if it were for Skillshare I'd have done in when talking about Senshi's skills he hones, brought up how you could do the same, and what it'd mean for the cast of DM if they had something similar, etc. Basically, just making it make sense to be there. I don't like when they interrupt the flow of the videos tbh
I thought the show was about irony. The journey was seemingly to save Falin, but the end of the manga revealed that Lios' true desire was to be around monsters, which he is forever separated from via the Lions curse. The irony is that everybody had a happy ending except Lios, whom while worshipped as a hero king, is eternally miserable without monsters in his life.
I for some reason recalled the hyphen every time I wrote it, but I kept second guessing myself and thought “I think it’s actually one word”. Turns out I was right lol
I do love this manga and anime and enjoy it greatly. and I have seen a video talking polar opposites about these characters and how they feels like even thought there is stakes to them having to find his sister the group takes their sweet time getting down to the lower floors and spend quite a bit of time enjoying and eating on the way down rather then having laser focus determination to get there as soon as possible. The argument I have against that is stated by the characters themselves that rushing and making haste can lead to mistakes and not properly eating and getting rest can leave them weakened to face what ever they encounter is ahead of them. I agree that taking their time is smart and important it, though does slightly mess with the urgency of getting to his sister before what they assume is the time limit of her body getting digested by the dragon.
They actually end up making great time. I dunno what video you’re referring to, but the characters themselves state that only took them a week or so. It took much longer last time. I’d say the other person wasn’t paying attention, but they definitely do dick around so I can’t fault them. Not to mention death is treatable in this world, so realistically the characters would naturally be callous towards it even if they know they shouldn’t.
Originally I also thought it was odd they had such a casual air and lack of urgency, but this definitely gets explained as we go on with death being more of an inconvenience to experienced adventurers in this dungeon. Which despite their goofiness, all the party members are experienced, if not any sort of master or such. They've been around the dungeon and have almost certainly all died multiple times. That and all their knowledge about the dragon suggested they should have had the time. I feel they could have done a bit better portraying the death thing sooner, but I feel like it all makes sense in setting as we get to learn more about it.
I feel like it’s that one-time special anime/manga, one that’s really good, but is so good that the entirety of its uniqueness and qualities are so rare that there’ll probably not be another one in it Also, I like the small detail that, when starting to describe how the scene changes from mostly comedic to mostly dark, that part starts just after the half way mark in the vid
Look up BlueSechi, a channel which does fan content for the game Blue Archive. I think the anime girl gif originally appeared in the video "Dont't draw a bomb" but the version of it here probably comes from "Tea-bagging Momoi Green Screen" which, as the name implies, is there to help other people re-use the meme. Should be about 20 seconds into the video. Pretty sure the squid is unrelated to the original
The squid is indeed an original inclusion based off the giant squid they fight in the anime. I had no idea there was a green screen version tho. That would've saved me time lol
Thanks! I spent a little extra time on it than normal to make sure it switched up at the right time and flowed well. Even changed my presentation a bit lol
Yeah those dark gritty moments just feel that more impactful because they clash with the rest of the show... Just like a good dish uses contrast to be tastier.
I adjusted the volume of my microphone and the soundtrack in my latest video, so that should be fixed now, at least it sounds better to me, but if you wanna give it a watch and give feedback that'd be much appreciated!
I'll never get over the scene of Marcille casting THE BIG SPELL. It's such a beautifully horrifying shot. Marcille, who is normally very well kept and clean is barefoot, covered in blood, hair is flowing wildly at crazy angles, has got some gnarly eyebags going on, and she has the look of being in some sort of evil trance. Just her appearance alone lets the viewer know: "Oh...this is not a good spell".
People keep saying it’s about eating and cooking, but it’s more about enjoying survival and that the lowest lows of humanity know no bounds, our society forgets humans are animalistic by thinking that we are are above yet we are still on the food chain
I did one on the first couple eps like a year or two ago, but I dunno if I'll bother to catch up and cover the new stuff. Haven't seen many people talking about it.
Its funny because the only thing this story did that elevated it above others is that it actually explored the themes present and wasnt afraid to handle consequence even if it meant changing the course of the plot
I'm ngl, finding out about that scene when the gray hair girl turns into some kinda bird and turning things around kinda got me sold into watching this! I had to say to myself, "Is this really that same anime abouting cooking?" 😂
Coming to this after reading the manga once i got caught up with the anime, this series is WILD and i dont regret it at all. Privledge of the living indeed.
Most characters have an underlying reason for how they act. We’ve gotten everyone’s reasons but his, som I’m sure we’ll be getting it soon. He likely lost people close to him due to not being able to provide.
a bit off-topic but how great is that Blue Archive soundtrack, huh? I've been playing the game for a couple months and now realize that OST is all over youtube, sometimes in the most unexpected of places, editors REALLY like to use it
It's a great OST and tends not to get videos hit. I liked using anime OST before it, but I'd frequently have to pause them in the middle of talking to prevent copyright. Games OSTs fit much better and don't have that issue. I'd honestly use more if the BA ones weren't so good lol
Best part of the world for me is that the world is based around reality but with monsters, opposite to others that centers around the magic aspect. Not that I don’t like that but it’s just refreshing with this
4:44 Dungeon Meshi pulled the hardest Madoka Magica ever pulled after Madoka Magica in that scene. Made in Abyss etc. failed to achieve that type of shift in tone because they were unbalanced overall.
I really don't see how it's lying, considering no one actually really knows much from the get go, both the characters in the anime, and us as the viewers, about how they were actually going to rescue Falin or how she was already digested. If anything, the characters are filling in gaps in their knowledge and learning new stuff the deeper they delve, with the circumstances also changing the deeper and longer it goes
One thing this has me wondering is if Falin being such an ambiguous character for so much of the anime was intentional. Just seeing how quickly the loosely formed idea of who she is is torn asunder as she's malformed by the mage. It's wild, and it really gets you to question her character which lends well to the tension built up in the story up until now.
I'm not sure where the anime is compared to the manga, I have finished the manga though, I will only say that the entire thing is indeed about cooking. Spoilers ahead To save his sister they end up having to eat the majority of the draconic part of her, some other stuff happens, he ends up defeating the sorcerer, and this is indeed a fantasy world where prophecies become real.
The anime is about cooking, which includes the preparation with ingredients and the eventual eating. Some eat monsters, some eat humans, and some other like to eat intangible things like dreams and wishes.
This anime is the best way to describe how dnd plays you learn as u go never know what’s going to come next good or bad and the best time in dnd campaign is when your all at camp or in the pub having fun around food and drinks
The real lie was making us think living armors were just here as "regular mobs" Same for that one second in OP1 showing a creature that never appeared in that part of the story "not being that important" Or even a shot shown in the video showing some "random" statue in the background "just being part of the decor" The forshadowing in retrospect is insane, so many pieces of a puzzle that fit together when you pay attention...Can't wait to discover what it leads to! That show will make for a great matathon on 2nd viewing that's for sure
I actually don't know what you're referencing for the monsters in the OP and statue, but the foreshadowing is very well done. The author does a great job at seeding it into the character arcs, and Trigger steps it up by littering it throughout the visuals.
@@To-To Oh, you'll understand soon enough. But I can’t say they are being selfish…they are desperate to save their friend and are ironically in trouble because they care so much they are making desperate risky moves that maybe are skewing their morality…is that growth or corruption? Such good writing!
Suppose thats why leaving the dungeon in the end is what makes them appreciate life more, the dungeon's nature is to make it so death doesn't stick like what Marcelle always explains to people like Senshi
@@captainkelley6450 Realistically it is only cause of the mad mage, the dragon was dead and just meat, much like how they say this can be done with pig meat, it being resurrected was all on him and unforseen

Near the end is explained that things which has been consumed cannot be resurrected
Felyn still had the Bones, so there was still something of her
This is why at the end they made a banquet making everyone consume only the Dragon's Parts
And destroyed the Bones
The only reason Felyn is still soulbounded to the Dragon at the end is because some of the Dragon's Flesh where still left on Felyn's Legs
But because Felyn has more mass in the Hybrid Body then she is the one in control

Annnd we're back!
@ahri-theninetailedfox3535 unfortunately we wont be back for a while 😓
Obvious reason is to survive the excuse just to make the series continue for a lot longer and end on a cliffhanger.
Honestly those Breaking Bad jokes were the best ones, I loved that. xD
Bro when you switched to the stock photo at 1:39 I swear to god I thought it was gonna be a skillshare ad, this app has broken my brain

No ones ever complimented my voice before 🥹
The resurrection magic helps a lot in keeping the tone light.
If everyone dies, including your healer, their souls will have to wait until someone else revives them, and who knows how long that may take or if the next griup of adventurers would even want to do that.
i was pleasantly surprised how the tone changed so well, especially with its genre. theres only a few stories that executes this perfectly

8:20 FMA comes to mind
As in something that also does both? I agree.

@@To-To No worries at all, not gonna stop supporting you over a hyphen XD
I noticed how you shifted at the videos exact half way mark
Just like the show :D
I feel like it’s that one-time special anime/manga, one that’s really good, but is so good that the entirety of its uniqueness and qualities are so rare that there’ll probably not be another one in it
Also, I like the small detail that, when starting to describe how the scene changes from mostly comedic to mostly dark, that part starts just after the half way mark in the vid
It's the most D&D-ish anime I've EVER seen

I think the anime girl gif originally appeared in the video "Dont't draw a bomb" but the version of it here probably comes from "Tea-bagging Momoi Green Screen" which, as the name implies, is there to help other people re-use the meme. Should be about 20 seconds into the video.
Pretty sure the squid is unrelated to the original
The squid is indeed an original inclusion based off the giant squid they fight in the anime. I had no idea there was a green screen version tho. That would've saved me time lol

I'll never get over the scene of Marcille casting THE BIG SPELL. It's such a beautifully horrifying shot. Madoka Magica vibes
great video, ez sub
I’m lying as was revealed in the video.
my brother honestly looks like chilichuck
One thing this has me wondering is if Falin being such an ambiguous character for so much of the anime was intentional. Just seeing how quickly the loosely formed idea of who she is is torn asunder as she's malformed by the mage. It's wild, and it really gets you to question her character which lends well to the tension built up in the story up until now.
I'm not sure where the anime is compared to the manga, I have finished the manga though, I will only say that the entire thing is indeed about cooking. Spoilers ahead
To save his sister they end up having to eat the majority of the draconic part of her, some other stuff happens, he ends up defeating the sorcerer, and this is indeed a fantasy world where prophecies become real.
The real lie was making us think living armors were just here as "regular mobs"
Same for that one second in OP1 showing a creature that never appeared in that part of the story "not being that important"
Or even a shot shown in the video showing some "random" statue in the background "just being part of the decor"
The forshadowing in retrospect is insane, so many pieces of a puzzle that fit together when you pay attention...Can't wait to discover what it leads to!
I didn't notice the statue while watching the anime normally, it just so happen to be in a spot that gave me a huge "wait a minute..." moment watching the video. I won't spoil where tho, that would ruin the treasure hunt for other people reading this. ^^"
As for the OP you only see part of it, not the entire thing, but once you pay attention it should be noticiable as well.
