Hey guys - sorry for the reupload. UA-cam had a big hiccup on Friday, which meant many of you weren't notified about this video. Hopefully this took care of it. Cheers!
Nintendrew first to reply
Nintendrew thanks
Love ya Drew!
I couldn’t find the song on yoshi’s island online. Do you know what it’s called?
I got a notification
This isn't a joke, when the song of storms played it legit started raining here. That was a crazy timing, wish I could proof it
Lol, reminds me of a time when I was playing Pokemon Gold, and I happened to use rain dance right when it started raining.
L
There's a Skulltula in your house.
brruh wtf its raining right now in brazil
bro i fully believe you! i played song of storms on my melodica walking back from school and it started pouring :V
A minor addition:
The flute tune is also the melody Link plays on the ocarina of wind in "LoZ: The Minish Cap"
And it appears in the original Zelda game as well
Im getting such an overwhelming nolstalgia feeling right now, These tunes will forever be engraved in my memory, Im so glad I got to experience the early days of gaming when there was no DLC or lootbox BS, just plain good simple gaming.
You know you can still hear these OSTs on youtube or play these games on emulators, right?
dlc is good when it adds content that can't be added due to development time
@@TheFailingGen Especially when it's free DLC.
I always thought that Zelda and Mario music sounded similar and now I know that it is thanks Nintendrew 👍
0:00 So what are we looking at, a few shared notes?
1:00 OHMYGOD
I need a full version of the final mashup in my life right now!
You're in luck, I found a full version!

2:42 That sounds so good!!!
Awesome video man! Love how Nintendo connects Mario and Zelda. Remember the Mario paintings in OoT's castle? Or the sidescroll part in Link's Awakening with Goomba's and Pirahna plants, or the Zelda level in Super Mario 3D Land? Great stuff.
Good stuff dude. I got notified the first time around but didn't have time to watch. Getting to it now. Knew about most of these but still cool to have the explanation from you! Stay awesome, Drew!
1:19 I noticed this when I was playing Yoshi's Island on my SNES Classic!
2:16 I'll have to tell my brother this. He is a huge Legend of Zelda fan, and thinks that Mario is inferior.
3:23 This just keeps getting better!
Lol is it shit, mario and zelda are both legendary titles none are inferior then the other just 2 different games.
The ocarina of time theme is from the flute wistle in the original zelda
Watched it on the first upload and the reupload, and I must say you have some of the most rewatchable content on this site. I just love it.
Ok I never put a bunch of these together. Awesome video man.
Wow. I still play all of these games all my life and haven't even noticed. This video is awesome.
X
Another great Nintendrew video! Your content is always great and makes me feel so happy. You're so enthusiastic and sincere, and it really comes through. :)
Oh cool an excuse to watch this video again! Love it nintdrew.
Awesome! Loved this. Such unique and well we explained content
Maybe adds to why a lot of people find Ocarina of Time to feel somewhat personal or for feeling a deeper connection to the game. Subconsciously we have already heard the music from our most treasured childhood games and the feeling of familiarity is like meeting an old friend again. For me, Ocarina of Time will forever be the greatest adventure i have experienced in gaming.
Nice video man! I knew about some of these but there are a couple that I haven't heard of before. Its always cool to hear about cool little easter eggs like this 👍.
Great video, didn't know about many of these similarities :)
#4 was actually pretty surprising. I knew about the other ones, but that's awesome. Great video, dude!
Great video! The only ones I knew were the warp whistle and the horse racing/secret sm64 stage. I'm a big fan of Ocarina of time and Majora's Mask, didn't know there were more musical references like that. Some of these are really obscure, your channel deserves a lot more subscribers!
it kills me when people say that the title theme is a Mario 3 reference despite the fact that the warp whistle appeared in tloz1 2 years earlier
Oh wow very neat video! I got Goosebumps from the whistle theme! I love both melodies
But if you look closer
Nathaniel SimpleFlips Bandy
everytime
Nathaniel """""""""""""""""""Scuttlebug""""""""""""""""""" Bandy
I didnt get that reference
Nathaniel SimpleFlips Bandy Strikes again
WOW! Hearing the Zelda Oot opening gave me tingles... the nostalgia :')
Wow this is so awesome! Great work man!
You're REALLY good at mashing stuff up, Makes me want to mash those songs together for personal use.
A very well put together video. I enjoyed it on a musical analysis level and good ol' nostalgia :)
Hope you plan to do more videos like this one in the future. Very interesting.
Link to the Past has the flute sound, too!! And it's the first ocarina shaped instrument in the series!
SO AWESOME!!!! The way you mixed the tracks when you compared them was so good i didn't want to stop hearing. Also i really want the fairy fountain map 3 remix as well as the theme of OOT and Mario 3 please. And don't stop making good videos. YOUR THE BEST!!!!
This is also so crazy. Nice video!
This video was absolutely amazing. Thank you for making it!
That's insane! Great vid.
Drew, my good sir, you have pointed out many things I was oblivious to, being a huge mario fan. *fancy hat nod*
OMG I thought I was the only person who thought that smb3 world 3 theme sounded like the fairy fountain theme. Great video!
Thanks man! You’re the best! 🤗
Anyone else notice cdi link when he said musical link?
Noticed it was Link, but didn't notice it was laughing CDI Link until I went back to see it again.
Yes, I did.
yeh
I did
I never knew about number 5. Thanks for extending my Nintendo knowledge bro! That’s so cool!
Wow! This video was very creative! I never would have thought that Yoshi and Zelda had a connection!
fantastic video! love this kind of unique insight
THis is awesome, as always Great stuff Drew.
I can't believe I didn't connect some of these until you mentioned them! Although In knew about the Yoshis Island one, and the major's mask music box one honestly sounds more like a Final Fantasy 1 song...
Awesome video man .. only had picked up on one of these after play ocarina of time .. great content
Great video, the flute tune from SMB3, LoZ, and, OOT is also the tune that plays when you use the ocarina in minish Cap and is also the theme in castor wilds in minish cap :)
You just changed my life forever man.... I am shooketh
Awesome video man!
Yay reupload, now I can watch this again
this is legitimently the most intresting stuff ive heard in a while. i had NO idea.
Really great video!!
Only knew about the Loz NES and SMB 3, and the fairy fountain one before. The fact that there are more just like it is insanely awesome
I always knew about the music box ones because as a kid I swore blind MM and M64 had like half of the melody each... Blew me away! I felt like I made a huge discovery xD Love the video!! Part 2?
Nice vid, I don’t even watched it yet but a nintendrew vid is alway a good vid keep it up
1:32 if i need to get a 10 hours ver
3:23 the flute jingle was also the sound effect for the ocarina of wind in The Minish Cap
NEW VID- oh. Well let's watch it again!
Great video drew! Someone needs to make a mashup of these songs haha
I have been playing Zelda and Mario since I was just a boy, and I've been playing music most of my life and now have a degree in it. Most of these were well known to me, but the Ikana Canyon/Big Boo's Haunt thing did not occur to me until now... Like, I played both of those games around the same time, how did I not notice this?
Wow. I never noticed that. Can you do it with Pokemon next? BTW luv ur vids!
I played Ocarina of Time for the first time today and that intro blew me away, i felt quite upset thinking why didn't i play this all those years ago. I would have gone mad for that Mario 3 reference!
Played ocarina years and years ago got chance to complete that. But all these years later im only just finding this out.
When I was playing Majoras mask I was instantly reminded and question on why it sounded like Boos carousel. 😊
Great video! Mind Blown!
This is a great video, I'd love to see more in this vein.
Hey nintendrew all the way from Coventry 🇬🇧
Oh there is a LINK alright... Ok I'll stop.
Ok, this is going to sound crazy but this noise, the one at 3:16 just reminds me of a part Lysander’s theme from Pokemon X and Y. Yes I know they are probably unrelated and isn’t even that similar but godamn my brain made the connection
I'm somewhat of an obvious gamer, so I've never noticed any of these! I would love to see more connection-esque videos between other games.
Mind blown! Had to subscribe
You've definitely covered a lot of my personal observations as a kid
I'm here as I heard quarks in mario cartoon play the zelda theme lol. Also played hell out of yoshis island and never knew the song of storm's sound so familiar.
I have played all of these games multiple times, yet my mind is still blown.
2:42 full version pls....
I liked this. I actually know 3-5 of them but this is very good
I literally googled the warp whistle theme because I randomly realized the OOT theme connection, and found this. I'm disappointed to see the connection with the fairy theme and SMB world 3, I hated that world. But yep, it's right! Great vid!
Glad you reposted this, I indeed didn't see it in my notifications.
I knew it!!! xD I wasn't sure if I was just hearing what I wanted to hear or if it actually were the same songs
I never noticed these until now thanks
Great video bro
1:31 you have became a legend my good man.
2 things : I think the whistle was a type of foreshadowing from developers with the fact that loz oot uses the ocarina being a musical warp just like the use in Mario which was a very intricate build upon and secondly I thing that Koji Kondo took these songs and built upon each and separated them being so that when they each overlay like in the video they become one full melodic tune. Just like how they may have been original orchestrated.
Its awesome how most of these compliment each other. At least the ones that aren't exact references. The last one just sounds like a big hoedown when put together.
This isn't a Zelda thing but the 64 slide theme you mentioned and the SM3DW Plessie theme are similar, and the 3DW death jingle is also a remix of the SMB3 one.
I got way too interested in that race at 6:40 haha
That's awesome!
I did not heard the similarity between the Mario party song and the Zelda song but surprisingly I felt like bot fit and connects perfectly to complement each other making a richer and more enjoyable song
Magic
Mind. Blown.
My favourite cross-franchise Nintendo music connection is the fact that the N64 Super Mario 64's Peach Castle Theme was "teased" as one of SNES DKC3's save room music themes, "Wrinkly 64".
I exist here now. Great informative video, also!
Another awesome video by Nintendrew. The mashups were made so well and I love these musics even more now! Can you please give me the "link" for the fairy mountain mashup?(sorry for the bad pun).
It's funny. In #2. I don't really play Zelda at all so I am one of the few that *wasn't* familiar with that song, until I heard it and went "That's the World 3 Map from SMB3!"
love the mario kart ds music at the beginning!
I don't know if its just me, but one of the Pokemon main themes has the warp whistle/OoT opening in it. It might just be purely coincidence that it steps down a similar set of notes, but I always thought that was interesting
The warp whistle also has the same tune as the flute in the nes Legend of Zelda. They are also almost functionally the same.
...he said that
I’m a big fan and I love your videos but there is one you missed... the zelda dungeon jingle in super Mario 3d land also keep on making videos your channel is awesome
Love that mashup between the first two songs
THE SUPER MARIO BROS. 3 ONE HAD ME SCREAMING AT MY SCREEN
My friend hummed every tune in this vid all day nonstop.
Fun fact: at 2:58 at the end, this theme was remastered into a remix for a rom hack called Ermii Kart for the DS Lite.
Holy sht.
At 1:12 . I played Yoshi's Island first (since I was too young to have an N64B back in the early 2000s). Fast forward this 2018, I am playing OOT 3D, and somehow felt a familiarity when that guy taught me the Song of Storms.
Also at 5:55 , played the super mario 64 ds remake, also felt weird when Ingo started racing with me on that music.
I’m not super musically inclined, so am not too sure on this... but when I heard #4, I thought both of them had a very similar melody to the melody in the “bonus game” track from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island. The bonus game music has similar instrumentation to the Super Mario 64 boo merry go round, but is a bit more sped up and less ominous.
