Is it even possible to narrow a list down to only 10 Koji Kondo tracks? Can you really rank one over the other? Each one is unique in it's own way and I can't really think of a bad track composed by him. There's a reason why many consider him the best of the best. You could easily make a Part 2 of this one day.
@@GoodVibeCollecting with SMB 1-1 and Overworld AKA Main Theme of Zelda being easily the top 2 most iconic and recognizable themes in gaming. Even non-gamers know where those themes come from.
7:18 OMG, did you get that album cover from the Zelda wikia?! I uploaded that! That's my CD! It was sold through Nintendo Power magazine, but I never saw any mention of it anywhere online, so I personally took it upon myself to upload the cover scan, track list, and any other notable information to both Wikipedia and Zelda Wiki.
Nice top 10 of your own, I certainly agree with a couple of these songs. Personally to me, my favorite Koji Kondo track ever made is Song of Healing from Majora's Mask. What a piece it is, not healing in a sense of making something better, but healing as in accepting and moving on from your struggles. It's this capturing of these emotions that makes the Song of Healing one of, if not, the most impactful piec of music Koji Kondo has ever made.
Loved seeing the Overworld AKA Main Theme of Zelda getting number 1 here. Probably the second most iconic theme in gaming after SMB 1-1, and ironically probably one of if not the most legendary Zelda game of all in Ocarina of Time is one of the very few Zelda games to not have that iconic theme at all in it.
I have a hunch that his favorite nintendo franchise is Zelda Although I may be more of a mario guy, i couldn’t be mad about these choices at all, zelda has some breathtaking music just as much as mario
Oh, my God, shmup themes? If you don't heavily investigate the music from u.n. squadron, you will have done yourself a terrible injustice. Pretty much the whole score is pure fire
You got an interesting discovery of VGM composers. I just hope you can do Top 10s for Allister Brimble, Motoi Sakuraba and Hidenori Shoji in the future, after you finish up the Shoot Em Up video.
Koji Kondo, a 10/10. Compare todays ingame music with Koji Kondo or David Wise, a different of day and night! Zelda Ocarina of Time - Spirit Temple by Koji Kondo
Jeez...this felt more like a top 6 Zelda themes with 4 honorable mentions (plus 3 actual honorable mentions). Being a musician myself, I know how subjective music can be , but still... most of the honorable mentions being on there over anything from SMB2 or 3 , or Ice Hockey for that matter...I have to respectfully disagree with the list Meh...can’t win them all.
Off topic, but when you get around to doing another Oddly Familiar video, the Stage Select theme from Mega Man X sounds like Crash by Mephisto Odyssey featuring Wayne Static. The riffs in both songs are identical, but arranged differently.
For shmups, a few that come to mind are Gradius 3 level 2 bubble stage, Halley wars stage 3, and even super Mario land's shmups sections. For oddly familiar, Sonic 3's Azure Lake = Donny Osmond's Soldier of Love.
Shoot em up themes: Agent X II: The Mad Prof's Back - Stage 1 (C64 version) Delta - In game theme Gradius 3 - Aqua Illusion Starfox - Corneria Life Force - Stage 6 (mechanical stage)
Great video ❤ Was curious about Super Mario 1-1 at no.4 but I agree about Dire Dire Docks at no.2. Music's subjective and everybody list will be different. LofZ main theme is hard 2 compete Question about next list, will it b strictly shoot'em ups or game that have shoot'em up levels like The Guardian Legend?
I would’ve added some of his Super Mario Odyssey or Super Mario Galaxy 2 music to this. His Bowser Castle music in Odyssey is pretty amazing, as is his Starship Mario and Bowser Jr. Fort music.
Probably could have opened more slots by simply having “#1 - The Legend of Zelda series - All of them”.
But he didn't write music for all the Zelda games
Another awesome video! Koji Kondo is a legend. #1 still gives me chills when I hear it.
The main theme of Zelda is just epic and iconic, and the only video game track more iconic than it is SMB 1-1.
3:05 Yeah! It sounds very "JohnWilliams-esque". Kinda reminiscent of the Jaws theme as well.
Gerudo Valley should be on here in my opinion, at least an honorable mention
Personally, I never really got why that song was so popular.
I feel like over half this list is "songs you could fall asleep to".
Koji Kondo, Nobuo Uemastu and Yoko Shimomura my best 3 composers

I could probably make a Top 10 list with just Ocarina of Time, or Super Mario 64 tracks alone.
@@Gamedraco Exactly. He's done so many tracks that are now considered classics.

Koji Kondo is one of my favorite composers. I don't think the 64 era would have been quite as magical without him
I agree with that and even take it a step further... the NES era, too!

Thanks for uploading that man.
I went and checked the credits... Morgil27@legacy41961750 ... lol, yes, it's your scan
Another composer like Uematsu with nothing but bangers.

Castle theme from SMW
koji kondo is the ennio morricone of nintendo
The Ocarina of Time title screen is just the warp whistle from Super Mario Bros 3
No..? It's from The Legend of Zelda. It's the flute from that. That's the intentional reference that Kondo made.
@@the_best_saiyan8448 dang people actually read my comments wtf
Konji Kondo and David Wise... simply the best

I really love the water temple theme. It's very unique.

We have one of those already planned! And, I will need to do research on Allister

Zelda Ocarina of Time - Spirit Temple by Koji Kondo
Axelay had some outstanding shmup themes, levels 1 and 4 being personal favorites. TGL's shooting sections also stand out with plenty variety.
I'm a bit sad StarFox 64 ending is in the list, but not OoT's not SM64's. But that would mean even more Zelda or Mario in the top 10 !
"limit to 1 song per franchise" proceeds to fill the list with tons of Zelda music
I actually meant to say 1 per game, I can't believe nobody caught that until now
No way the Ocarina of time title theme is better than the gerudo valley theme.
The fact that there is not a single Galaxy track is a joke
No mention of the Athletic Theme for Super Mario World?
Song from 10:13 to 10:20????
Bridge Zone from Sonic Game Gear
@@uncannyx thx a lot, great video in deed.

If _Space Harrier_ counts as a shoot'em up, I'd say its main theme, which is a rip off _Cherry Blossom_ by Seiko Matsuda.
Good list but a little sad about no Gerudo Valley.
[5:04] How come the *3DS version (from "Star Fox 64 3D" in 2011)* of the *ending staff credits theme* in "Star Fox 64" didn't get a mention?
Song of healing is so underrated.
Off topic, but when you get around to doing another Oddly Familiar video, the Stage Select theme from Mega Man X sounds like Crash by Mephisto Odyssey featuring Wayne Static. The riffs in both songs are identical, but arranged differently.
this is the beans knees
No bowser castle mention?
Why did he not do breath of the wild...
Mr Nintendo of music
Very beautiful.

For oddly familiar, Sonic 3's Azure Lake = Donny Osmond's Soldier of Love.
Shmup Music?
Gradius II's Burning Heat and Thunder Force 4's Don't Go Off come to mind.
Raiden II's Repeated Tragedy lives rent free in my head.
No song of healing 😢?
You’re definitely missing Yoshi Island music. I think some of his best work.
No Lost Woods!?!
Shoot em up themes:
Agent X II: The Mad Prof's Back - Stage 1 (C64 version)
Delta - In game theme
Gradius 3 - Aqua Illusion
Starfox - Corneria
Life Force - Stage 6 (mechanical stage)
Oh yes I agree with you. Zelda Theme aka overworld it's the best game music ever.
The Great Fairy Fountain theme was originally from Super Mario Bros. 3 World 3 Water World
We have that upcoming in an Oddly episode, but with a twist!
This list sucks
Dire Dire Docks before the drums was just cool back when Mario 64 was new, but years later... The eyes get runny.
Koji Kondo GOAT
Imagine they put that music in actual boxing fights
Best shoot em up theme if you consider bullet hells are in the same genre has to be "Burning Halloween Town" from Deathsmiles.
Of course loz has the best soundtracks honestly there is no bad soundtrack
Dire Dire Docks is my favorite piece by Koji Kondo.
I thought the punch out theme was based on the Rocky theme.
Great video ❤ Was curious about Super Mario 1-1 at no.4 but I agree about Dire Dire Docks at no.2. Music's subjective and everybody list will be different. LofZ main theme is hard 2 compete
Question about next list, will it b strictly shoot'em ups or game that have shoot'em up levels like The Guardian Legend?
The whole game has to be a shoot em up, and there are still too many
Cool, thanks
magical music
The Crystals Theme He just needs to run faster.
Person favorites in shootem up music
Zoness- Star Fox 64(sounds ever better on the 3DS ver.)
Shudder- Einhander
Personal
Kondo didn’t write those… those were Hajime Wakai.
Thanks for the video. I love love love all of these tunes.
He's the best one who is in our hearts i hope he returns
Top video mate
