The Shaggy Man is an old Justice League enemy who is an artificially created being is basically super strong, unstoppable, indestructible (he can regenerate any damage instantly, as Batman found out when he used a bomb to blow off Eiling's arm and it grew back instantly), and doesn't feel pain. This guy has been short changed more than any top shelf hero. He was the basis for Dr Manhattan and yet was never depicted in any consistent way himself to reconcile his amazing power with his human consciousness and awareness. One moment he is creating and destroying entire realities; taking on DC's embodiments of death, i.e Nekron and Black Racer; kicking every butt in the Wildstorm Universe; and kicking a tyrannical Superman's butt single handedly in the Injustice reality. He holds off an attack by the entire Justice League in his benevolent form, and takes out multiple versions of Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Firestorm, and of himself in his malevolent Monarch form. In Generation Lost, he walks new thresholds of the Quantum time-space continuum and makes his way home each time to show he is the ultimate powerhouse against Power Girl and everything Max Lord can throw at him. It is like DC blended Captain America and the Silver Surfer and then doesn't know what to do with him!!! Which is so sad because even with--or especially with--his military hard luck back story, creative writers could make a hero of cosmic (or is it Quantum) proportions and still be relatable. He is one of those DC heroes that feels like Marvel Comics would have known exactly how to make him an A-Lister. In addition to his Quantum powers of energy and matter manipulation, the more inflected and nuanced powers--such as, techno-telepathy and techno-kinesis--he shows in Armageddon are pregnant with plot opportunities. But then there is that one overarching weakness that will always keep him from reaching and maintaining the heights he deserves: and that weakness is the DC writing bench. Alas, poor Cap, we knew him well.
Is it me or does Captain Atom's Origin is simular to Hulk. Both were created via an experiment with radiation. Have troubles with a general, etc When marvel and dc did the Amalgam comics arc they should have merged Hulk with Atom into Captain Gamma. ( Hulk had merged with Solomon Grundy which made no sense...this would had made more sense. Story: Nathaniel Banner volunteers to test how a certain metal responds to Gamma radiation. Instead whenever he gets angry his body transforms in a green metal brute Captain Gamma. With brute strength and gamma based powers
The amalgam universe had weird combos: Dark Claw (Batman + Wolverine) Iron Lantern (Iron Man + Green Lantern) Super Solder (Captain America + Superman) Spider-Boy (Spiderman and Superboy) Dr. Doomsday (Dr. Doom + Doomsday) Some were good but most made no sense. I like my mixup of Hulk and Captain Atom better then the one they used Hulk/Solomon Grundy...the only simularities is they are brutes and can be dimwitted
Thomas Zulli While some of the Amalgam combinations didn't work for me, one that did was "Magneto And The Magnetic Men." I'm a fan of The Metal Men, and this take (which logically combined The Metal Men with Magneto) did work for me.
Captain Atom is so awesome he’s a really cool superhero my favorite Dc superhero ever he’s so underrated he’s ridiculously over powered and I love it his Orag in is so wicked I hope Dc makes a movie of Captain Atom he deserves it
cool origins. i find captain atom an intriguing and very compelling character and i would like to see him on the big screen. he looks cool and has some crazy powers. seeing him fight major force on the big screen would be bombastic
The first half of this characters origin story is way better than the second. Quite a refreshing origin story of a superhero if you ask me. Seeing that this was a "forced" experiment onto a convicted man, as it were.
Great to learn a little more about these characters. I haven't read their comic books so it's fun when you do this stuff. Captain Atom has always seemed very interesting, now I know why. :)
Most important Captain Atom fact: when DC purchased the Charlton characters, Alan Moore wanted to use them for his "Watchmen" project...since DC just plunked down a lot cash for the characters, and Alan Moore's story would see most of thecharacters dead or ruined, DC said no. so Moore created "homages" to the charlton characters. Captain Atom's was the omnipotent Dr. Manhattan
Where's the mention on how Alan Moore wanted to write a comic book with all the Charlton Comics characters, but because he wanted to kill them all (or feature them very dark story line), DC said no, so he just renamed them all and wrote Watchmen instead. If you didn't know, Dr. Manhattan is, for all intents and purposes, a reskinned Captain Atom.
I read his second series and it was good it is a damn shame it was never resolved and the Captain Atom and Wade Eiling rivalry was never resolved despite how personal it was between them. Not too mention his romantic relationship with Plastique was dissolved. It sucks.
@@JohnnyDominion Agreed. DC has so many great characters that don't get enough exposure !!! Like the Spectre, Doctor Fate, Martian Manhunter, Hawkman etc so many fantastic underrated characters going to waste !!
from what i know, DC will always de-power other super characters in comparison to Superman. There were battles fought that other characters bested Superman. for example, in an outsiders issue ( the ones with batman, katana, halo and so on), Geo- force bested Superman by increasing the gravity around them, he was nearly successful but Superman won as they were near a very snowy mountain and he made a thunder clap with his hands to cause an avalanche, and Geo- force was easily engulfed while Superman was not affected by it.
I loved that episode of Justice League Unlimited where Cap is fighting Superman. Supes is telling him to stay down, and he fought a good fight. Cap just keeps coming. Finally, Cap crashes into a wall, and passes out. When the Cadmus med team comes over, Superman says. .. DON'T YOU TOUCH HIM!. He's Justice League! I definitely respected Superman for that. I like Superman, but I'm not a huge fan of the character.
+Vincent Franklin You know maybe it would be a good idea if dc makes its cinematc universe out of certain characters like this instead of just Batman and Superman.
Atomic Robo TeslaReal name: Richard "Rick" Tyler Abilities superhuman strength and endurance enhanced speed and durability precognitive flash forwards allow foresight one hour into the future hourman was given a special hourglass that caused him to experience random visions of one hour in the future he also uses the drug miraclo which grants him super strength, speed, agility, reflexes and durability for a full hour
Wait! When I suggested the Atom I meant the dude who is buddies with Hawkman and can shrink to small sizes. Nice to see Captain Atom get a video anyway. I like how more obscure heroes are getting a spotlight.
Atom: "Quite the team you assemble Manhunter. Well, except for Batman here." Aquaman & Manhunter: "SAY WHAT?" Atom: "The guy has no super powers. Not even a lame one. And yet, everyone here thinks he's the greatest superhero in the universe." Aquaman: "cuz it's true!" *Atom points fist at Batman's face* Atom: Boom. Your dead. Boom. Your dead again. Boom. Boom. Boom. That's all it would take." Manhunter: "Sir, you are crossing a line." Atom: "Even the villains must buy into it. Cuz otherwise, he would've been squashed the moment he stepped out of Gotham." Batman: 🙁 Hahaha Atom breaks the Batman 😂😂😂
"up and A-dam" "no no.. up and atom!" "up and A-dam!" "up and atom!!" "up and A-dam!!!" XD Radioactive man played by Rainier Wolfcastle was funny. :P This video reminded me of that scene.
"iv said Jiminy Jillikers so many times, the words have lost all meaning" "Millhouse! we need to shoot the Jiminy Jillikers scene again" "But we already did it, it took five hours BUT WE DID IT!" "yes but now we need to shoot it again... from different angles... again.. and again and again and again!" XD
Are you talking about the movies or comics? Because let me tell you, people die in marvel comics all the time. And DC and Marvel comics are equal when it comes to being dark and age groups. And if you are talking about the movies, are just going to ignore the fact that a bunch of people died in iron man 3, winter soldier, and other marvel movies? Even in the avengers movie Loki killed people.
In DC people actually die? Like superman, hal jordan, wally west, barry allen, bruce wayne, jason todd, etc etc? Fuckin idiots trying to bring that console vs console mentality to comics.
Saral Thakur What? Jean Gray stayed dead for really long time and Cpt. Marvel Died due to cancer. Peter Parker in Unlimited died and was replaced by the new person entirly, like Gwen Stacy in mainstream. Heck, more people actually die in Marvel.
I felt this series had a big set-up, with him being framed for treason, having to work with his enemy, forcing him to spy on the JLI, and then they just dropped the whole plot and made him fight bad guys...
thats because he was supposed to be Captain Atom. Or rather he was supposed to take his place. DC didnt let Alan Moore use the original characters cuz he was going to kill them off in Watchmen, so he created new characters which were all based on pre-existing ones. In this case, Dr. Manhattan was based off of Captain Atom.
Ty D Why would killing of the characters be a problem? It's just one graphic novel, it doesn't have to (and in this case I don't even see how it could) tie into the main continuity. Just say it's an alternative reality, all problems solved.
McKnowledge1000 Please consider, DC had just paid big bucks for the rights to many of the Action Heroes from Charlton Comics. Why paid good money to just kill off something they just brought? And regarding an alternative Reality, it couldn't be done at the time. All the Charlton Heroes were introduced as part of the DC multi-universe within the pages of "Crisis on Infinite Earths" and the primary intent of that landmark mini-series was to fuse all the many DC universes into ONE universe. So when DC released the Watchmen series that alternative Reality was not a alternative Reality of the DC universe since the heroes in it were never part of the DC main line of comics, just had a amazing resemblance.
"Getting blasted by a nuclear bomb might be a bit much for some guys -- but not for a certain DC superhero." -- Ha! For the Hulk, a little old nuclear explosion is not only "not much", but the intense radiation would actually make him *stronger*(as seen in the "Future Imperfect" story). Take that DC! Make Mine Marvel!! ;-)
Right Superman can survive one too and that's the regular Superman lets not get started on Superman Prime yeah and Superman already has beaten Hulk in the comics take that Marvel Ill make mine DC..........
Idk know much about Captain Atom, but he is underrated. He can beat Superman for sure, but who ever controls the comic or animation will make him lose. It's that sample and Dr. Manhattan wouldn't even EXIST if not for Captain Atom. Idk how he got capture in Justice League Flash Point Paradox, but his power was use to destroy the world. The creator need to give Captain Atom a chance on the screen for sure.
+Vincent Franklin The new 52 Cap Atom is such an overpowered version of himself that he certainly couldn't last too much within the earth superheroes roster.
dr Manhattan is boring I'd rather see cap atom in a fight cuz at least his enemys could think they have a chance and fight back witch of course they don't but heroes that don't have to do nothing is boring like come on what's the freaking point ..i want to see a drawl

Baymax Seriously? You're that lazy to just type in "Comic besides DC/Marvel"? I'm in a good mood, so i'll share a few examples. Judge Dredd is one. *Hellboy* which is published by *Dark Horse Comics* they also made *The American*, *The Mark*, *Trekker*, *Black Cross*, another famous one from them is *Frank Miller's-Sin City*, to name but a few. A lot of comics started up under one publisher and were bought up, or rival publishers bought up and are subsidiaries, but still have their own distinct work. *Vertigo Comics* is one of these, they've made greats like *Sandman*. There's *Image Comics*, who've published *The Walking Dead* and tonnes of top comics. Also *Valiant Comics* who are having a resurgance since 2012. Just gonna list a few more, i haven't posted publishers in order of importance so far, and won't either, just giving stuff in random order. *Dynamite Comics*- *IDW Publishing*- *Oni Press*- *Pantheon*- *Top Shelf*- *Wildstorm*- *Aspen MLT*-- *Humanoids Comics*- That's as much as i'll give for now, go look into them yourself.
I HAVE SOMETHING COMPLETELY SEPARATE TO SAY INVOLVING HERO (CAPTAIN ATOM) Now I strongly think that this superhero guy (CaptainAtom) should make his appearance in a future story chapter movie of the (JUSTICE LEAGUE) someday down the line.
The Flashpoint Paradox proved he's one of the most dangerous super heroes

In addition to his Quantum powers of energy and matter manipulation, the more inflected and nuanced powers--such as, techno-telepathy and techno-kinesis--he shows in Armageddon are pregnant with plot opportunities. But then there is that one overarching weakness that will always keep him from reaching and maintaining the heights he deserves: and that weakness is the DC writing bench.
Alas, poor Cap, we knew him well.
special effects are advanced enough to make a captain Atom movie work. especially with the post crisis storyline
Is it me or does Captain Atom's Origin is simular to Hulk. Both were created via an experiment with radiation. Have troubles with a general, etc
When marvel and dc did the Amalgam comics arc they should have merged Hulk with Atom into Captain Gamma.
That's awesome
That sounds pretty cool.
Cool but extremely OP lol
The amalgam universe had weird combos:
Dark Claw (Batman + Wolverine)
Iron Lantern (Iron Man + Green Lantern)
Super Solder (Captain America + Superman)
Spider-Boy (Spiderman and Superboy)
Dr. Doomsday (Dr. Doom + Doomsday)
Some were good but most made no sense. I like my mixup of Hulk and Captain Atom better then the one they used Hulk/Solomon Grundy...the only simularities is they are brutes and can be dimwitted
Thomas Zulli
While some of the Amalgam combinations didn't work for me, one that did was "Magneto And The Magnetic Men." I'm a fan of The Metal Men, and this take (which logically combined The Metal Men with Magneto) did work for me.
"are you a fan of Captain Atom?"
Me: I AM NOW! 😲
Captain Atom is so awesome he’s a really cool superhero my favorite Dc superhero ever he’s so underrated he’s ridiculously over powered and I love it his Orag in is so wicked I hope Dc makes a movie of Captain Atom he deserves it
there should be a movie of captin atom
cool origins. i find captain atom an intriguing and very compelling character and i would like to see him on the big screen. he looks cool and has some crazy powers. seeing him fight major force on the big screen would be bombastic
+BatmanFANizationReborn you know what make it even more cool, is if they show him in the quantum field.
Apparently, the blast also had a Ken doll effect. He's probably the angriest superhero alive.
The Atom, Atom Smasher and Captain Atom. Get your atoms right.
I really want a Captain Atom movie.
He did a good job cleaning up the place, but his boss didn't like him so he shot him into spaaaace @2:47
I was always a fan of Captain Atom and The Atom... and I am reminded of both of them when I saw Watchmen's Dr. Manhattan.
Saw the TV episode where he fought Superman. He makes a VERY good account of himself!
I liked the fight he put up against Superman, in Justice League Unlimited.
If you want a quick 'classic lit' comparison, Captain Atom's origin is basically 'The Count of Monte Cristo.'
Captain Atom is the best dc superhero ever
Another great character that needs a Movie or CW appearance
Up and atom
please /watch?v=457nGTf4fsQ
Pandabearmadness ⚛ Go go go captain Atom
Most important Captain Atom fact: when DC purchased the Charlton characters, Alan Moore wanted to use them for his "Watchmen" project...since DC just plunked down a lot cash for the characters, and Alan Moore's story would see most of thecharacters dead or ruined, DC said no. so Moore created "homages" to the charlton characters. Captain Atom's was the omnipotent Dr. Manhattan
finally he gets some shine. he's one of my top 5 of all time. Definitely one of the most powerful
Yeah he's awesome
Where's the mention on how Alan Moore wanted to write a comic book with all the Charlton Comics characters, but because he wanted to kill them all (or feature them very dark story line), DC said no, so he just renamed them all and wrote Watchmen instead. If you didn't know, Dr. Manhattan is, for all intents and purposes, a reskinned Captain Atom.
Supervillain Origins ideas: Vandal Savage, Parallax, Sentinels (from X-Men), and Baron Von Strucker.
Man Captain Atom is so severely underrated !! Damn shame DC rebirth cut his solo series short !!
Should have an epic association with Firestorm either as a friend, frenemy, or supporting player.
Justice League Unlimited is probably the BEST DC animated series I have ever seen
I like most of the shows in the DCAU.
+Vincent Franklin You know maybe it would be a good idea if dc makes its cinematc universe out of certain characters like this instead of just Batman and Superman.
That's a good idea!
I love Captain Atom! Please do Major Force next!
Let's play a game of, who came first Dr.Manhattan or Captain Atom
Captain Atom 1960
Dr. manhattan 1986
Alan Moore even pointed out the Dr. Manhattan was influenced by Captain Atom
I am not a regular comic reader. So thanks
Jay Garrick Wow... you totally ruined the game for me.
Alex Juarez
Well he's fast and old so he would know.
Sam Worthington would Make An Outstanding Actor for The Role Of Nathaniel Adams/ Captain Atom in Zack Snyder’s Justice League Film Universe
Could you all do an origin for the spectre? That would be great!
Great work. Do Plastic Man, Elongated Man and Metamorpho!
Captain atom, the vision and hour man are my favorites
Hour man?
Yes
Carlos Sebastian necrotic goth I was asking who that was.
-_-
Atomic Robo TeslaReal name: Richard "Rick" Tyler
Abilities superhuman strength and endurance enhanced speed and durability precognitive flash forwards allow foresight one hour into the future hourman was given a special hourglass that caused him to experience random visions of one hour in the future he also uses the drug miraclo which grants him super strength, speed, agility, reflexes and durability for a full hour
Carlos Sebastian necrotic goth Thank you! :)
Also, thinking about it now, I've actually heard of him. XP
Wait! When I suggested the Atom I meant the dude who is buddies with Hawkman and can shrink to small sizes. Nice to see Captain Atom get a video anyway. I like how more obscure heroes are getting a spotlight.
Atom: "Quite the team you assemble Manhunter. Well, except for Batman here."
Aquaman & Manhunter: "SAY WHAT?"
Atom: "The guy has no super powers. Not even a lame one. And yet, everyone here thinks he's the greatest superhero in the universe."
Aquaman: "cuz it's true!"
*Atom points fist at Batman's face*
Atom: Boom. Your dead. Boom. Your dead again. Boom. Boom. Boom. That's all it would take."
Manhunter: "Sir, you are crossing a line."
Atom: "Even the villains must buy into it. Cuz otherwise, he would've been squashed the moment he stepped out of Gotham."
Batman: 🙁
Hahaha Atom breaks the Batman 😂😂😂
Captain Atom is the only person in the DC universe that could possibly take on Dr Manhattan.
I'm new to DC. Was he the guy who aquaman strapped to a submarine then blown up during The Flashpoint movie?
Yes, that is Cap. Atom.
why did Aquaman do that?
+Blair cause in flashpoint aqua n ww is d villain
Junn Tan that sucks!! this is why I don't like DC they always do stupid things like this and only give spotlight to Batman and Superman
+Blair ur so right.
but I like DC comic's and marvel comics.
Woah, his powers basically on surfer's level. If he goes into hos monarch form, he's a completely beast.
They forgot about Batman: The Brave and the Bold!
One of my all time favorite comics is Captain Atom: Armageddon.
He was saying "Up and At Them", not "Up and Adam".
iamfuturetrunks
"My eyes..the goggles do nothing"
I hope he got his own life action movie one day
DC is for adults,MARVEL for kids. In DC people actually die. In MARVEL's Avengers not a single person died.
Blastaar7 phoenix dies but not really, loki dies but not really, cyclop dies but not really, bucky dies but not really, xavier dies but not really.
Saral Thakur What? Jean Gray stayed dead for really long time and Cpt. Marvel Died due to cancer. Peter Parker in Unlimited died and was replaced by the new person entirly, like Gwen Stacy in mainstream. Heck, more people actually die in Marvel.
At the moment Marvel have better movies (In 2008 it was DC) but DC have the better comics at the moment (It's constantly shifting).
I felt this series had a big set-up, with him being framed for treason, having to work with his enemy, forcing him to spy on the JLI, and then they just dropped the whole plot and made him fight bad guys...
I was wondering how long it takes to make these origin videos ?
P.s. I
I wish he would appear more in animated features.
His origin reminds me of dr. Manhattan
thats because he was supposed to be Captain Atom.
McKnowledge1000 idk dont ask me ask DC lol. im not the one who prohibited it
He Came before dr.manhattan
McKnowledge1000
Please consider, DC had just paid big bucks for the rights to many of the Action Heroes from Charlton Comics.
No mention of his uniform and the purpose it serves?
Atom's shiny exterior is a containment suit. One crack and we all go boom.
"Getting blasted by a nuclear bomb might be a bit much for some guys -- but not for a certain DC superhero." --
Ha! For the Hulk, a little old nuclear explosion is not only "not much", but the intense radiation would actually make him *stronger*(as seen in the "Future Imperfect" story). Take that DC! Make Mine Marvel!! ;-)
it would probably tickle hulk since he's basically PURE gamma radiation
***** Bah, damn Indy and his super fridge! =)
Right Superman can survive one too and that's the regular Superman lets not get started on Superman Prime yeah and Superman already has beaten Hulk in the comics take that Marvel Ill make mine DC..........
Osvaldo Pinheiro Oh, sure, refute me with *facts*, low blow, man, low blow! ;-)
Osvaldo Pinheiro Dc is bullshit remember Kyponite is grammar radaition dumb ass in a real fight superman is dead HULK SMASH>>>>>>>
Please do 'SuperHero Origins: Tigra'
I loved Cap"s 1987 series.
I was hoping his New 52 book would be a hit, but no such luck.
+Vincent Franklin The new 52 Cap Atom is such an overpowered version of himself that he certainly couldn't last too much within the earth superheroes roster.
That's true.
he could kill superman in my opinion
lol
captain atom yeah he could go toe to toe with supes
Captain Atom can't go toe to toe with Superman
Yes he can...
insidedavesmind no he can't
Captain Atom is my favorite DC superhero.
major force origins please
yes
I just want to see a superhero origin of Cable. Cable is known and he is liked and he has a crazy origin story so come on watchmojo make it happen....
Superhero Origins: Hawkgirl
Love how he says Captain Atom
dr Manhattan is boring I'd rather see cap atom in a fight cuz at least his enemys could think they have a chance and fight back witch of course they don't but heroes that don't have to do nothing is boring like come on what's the freaking point ..i want to see a drawl
dude could make his own universe, even changes the phisycs, reality and time of it.
Dr Manhattan stands no chance against Captain Atom...
did you read doomsday clock?? did you know what happened in issue #9?? you will know what Dr. Manhattan do to captain atom you will be shocked
Always been one of my faves.
First actual comment isn't even a guy claiming he's first, lol.
This guy is so underrated

very slimier to Dr.Manhattan ,, any one ??
Dr Manhattan is based on him.
true
I'm the hunt for all his comics, so far I'm missing 25 issues. The new 52 I have all those plus the graphic novel versions of it too. I proudly display the original first issue in my office
I've noticed Mojo only do Marvel and DC heroes and villains, what about other comics? There's lots with heroes more powerful than Superman(overrated).
What other Comics are out there?
Baymax You're in for a surprise/treat, go looking online.
Cú Chulainn No tell here, right now, Dude.... What other comics are out there?
*Dynamite Comics*-
*IDW Publishing*-
*Oni Press*-
*Pantheon*-
*Top Shelf*-
*Wildstorm*-
*Aspen MLT*--
*Humanoids Comics*-
That's as much as i'll give for now, go look into them yourself.
Cú Chulainn Those comics sounds awesome.
I HAVE SOMETHING COMPLETELY SEPARATE TO SAY INVOLVING HERO (CAPTAIN ATOM)
Now I strongly think that this superhero guy (CaptainAtom) should make his appearance in a future story chapter movie of the (JUSTICE LEAGUE) someday down the line.
