well, in Watchmen (and by extension here) they do relate how Rorschach originated (the little girl incident). So they kinda did tell the origin story....with some toppings. lots of it.
I think it's too complicated for some people. It is a lot of history and a lot of nasty, tricksy dialoges for those who have no interest whatsoever in using their brain. Those who watch superhero-movies only for the fist-fights, pew-pew-pew-shootouts and blood-splattering violence will probably not like this film as much as it deserves.
koalakid11 I heard it was because a lot of people thought it was another movie that turned away from the source material. After watching this video though I think it was one of the few movies that didn't do that.
***** I have considered reading the comic. And I really want to read Before Watchmen: Rorschach, because he is simply the coolest anti-hero I have ever seen.
koalakid11 The "Before Watchmen" for Rorschach isn't as good as I would like. But I still own it. It doesn't have an in depth 'origin' story like Dr Manhattan or Ozymandias. But it's still cool. :)
Batman voice is not hardcore, its only Nolan worst idea of making him voiced like that, my favorite batman voice is kevin conroy, The bat voice changer in the bvs was good tho
It became clear that he wouldn't survive this adventure. He had what Alan Moore called a king-sized death wish.he wanted to die in the most heroic way he could think of.
Just watched this again last night. Such a great movie in my opinion, and despite the fact that I haven't read the comics, I'm glad to see that the movie has primarily stuck to the original story. Even though I knew it was coming, I was still devastated when he got killed. He's probably one of my favourite heroes.
hi, i read the comic and wached the film, it have different ending if u enjoy the film read the last part of the book. is in all librarys if u don't want buy
I don't know whether to be upset that they changed him taking justice out on that guy who killed the girl. He kills him with a cleaver, effectively showing his sense of punishing evil and putting down dogs. But in the comics, Rorschach handcuffs him and give him the option to escape the burning building by giving him a hacksaw, knowing he'll be too scared to saw it off. The kill is not quick or really by his hand. What do you guys think?
"We've chosen to follow the only series that Rorschach has ever been in." This isn't an origin story, Its just a summary of the entire story of Watchman.
This was annoying I wanted in-depth information about Rorschach. It's even more annoying that whilst I was going to give WM it's dues on little information, said information is readily available. This summary left a lot of information out, especially I believe the part regarding to his excelling in amateur boxing whilst in the care home, that I feel is information people readily want to know. Walter Joseph Kovacs was born on March 21, 1940, the son of Sylvia Kovacs, a prostitute, and an unknown father only known to Kovacs as "Charlie". His mother was frequently abusive and condescending towards him. In July 1951, at the age of 11, Kovacs became involved in a violent fight with two older bullies, and subsequently his living conditions were finally looked into. He was removed from his mother's care and put in "The Lillian Charlton Home for Problem Children" in New Jersey, where he rapidly seemed to improve, excelling at scholastics as well as gymnastics and amateur boxing. In 1956, after leaving the Charlton Home when he was 16, Kovacs took a job as a garment worker in a dress shop, which he found "bearable but unpleasant" partly because he had to handle women's clothing; it was here that he acquired a certain dress fabric that he would later fashion into the mask he wears as Rorschach. In 1962, Kovacs scavenged the material from a rejected dress that had been special-ordered by a young woman with an Italian name. Though Kovacs learned how to cut and fashion the material successfully with heated implements, he soon grew bored with it, as it served him no real purpose at the time.[13] Two years later when buying a newspaper on his way to work in March 1964, Walter read about the rape and murder of Kitty Genovese, whom he believed was the Italian woman who had rejected the dress. Ashamed by what he read about the unresponsiveness of her neighbors, Kovacs became disillusioned with the underlying apathy that he saw as inherent in most people. Inspired by Genovese's fate, Kovacs returned home, made "a face [he] could bear to look at in the mirror" from the dress's fabric, and began fighting crime as the vigilante Rorschach. Initially, Kovacs left criminals alive, but bloodied, for the police to arrest. In the mid 1960s, he teamed up with Nite Owl II, a partnership which proved highly successful at battling organized crime.[13] In 1975, an investigation into the kidnapping of a young girl named Blair Roche led to the transformation of the "soft" Kovacs into the ruthlessly uncompromising Rorschach. He tracked the kidnapping to a man named Gerald Grice. At Grice's shack, Kovacs found evidence that Grice had killed the girl and had fed her remains to his dogs. Rorschach killed the dogs with Grice's meat cleaver and waited for his arrival. When Grice returned, Rorschach handcuffed him to a stove, poured kerosene around him, gave him a hacksaw and told Grice that he could cut off his own hand in order to escape. Rorschach then set the building on fire and left. No one emerged.[13] During a later psychological evaluation, the vigilante stated that Kovacs went into the shack, but that Rorschach came out. When the Keene Act was passed in 1977 to outlaw vigilantes, Rorschach responded by killing a wanted multiple rapist and leaving his body outside a police station with a note bearing one word: "neveR!". Source: Wikipedia "Past Watchmen event's"
"While many heroes are in the limelight and uphold peace and being a good person, there is always someone like Rorschach, a person who makes the scum that seeps through the cracks and evades the gaze of even superman, it ain't pretty, it isn't clean, but someone's gotta do it." Random Elias, sound like a good line for your character? You'll probably have to take out the heroes names but the premise is solid.
One of the essential comics right up there with Maus and The Spirit in it's impact on sequential art. Watchmen did for comics what Citizen Kane did for film in it's own way.
Rorschach is truly a badass hero...he deserves more screen. We want a spin off about more adventures of Rorschach If I honesty say....zack Snyder is an awesome director though it always feels like he is missing some things. His Man of steel was awesome. He presented truth of being a gift instead of showing how cool is it to be a superhero. Though in the end he couldn't manage the same tone...the film didn't needed that heavy cgi effects in the end. Even sucker punch was good (I know this gonna offend many)....he presented story of a girl so differently how her imaginations can create possibilities I seriously think after Chris Nolan....the director doing best character development of the protagonist is zack snyder
nathan tesfamicael Watchmen's it's own universe, DC just published the graphic novel. It'd be hard to have that universe share the same universe as DC, you would think that Superman would've stopped the fake alien invasion somewhere.
***** well many dislike chris Nolan cause they blamed him for turning movies that were supposed to be full with fights and blasts turned into some soap opera drama.... But I still feel the way he did the character development and presented the twists in each and every movie he directed was just awesome.... But...well Michael bay's movie always commercially outrun chris movies... So yeah no matter how bad he is making his movies...people are there still appreciating it In the same way...no matter how bad chris Nolan is...people are there appreciating him
nathan tesfamicael not sure about your timeline dilemma...but events of watchmen happened in an alternate world The events of world war 2hppened in a different way where the watchmen helped them win the war
*Rorschach:* Antihero - Not evil but not good either. - a psycho/sociopath, emotional, an interesting mind, has Paranoid Personality Disorder - He's interesting and different. *Dr. Manhattan:* Hero/neutral - Suffers from alexithymia or Schizoid Personality Disorder the inability to feel emotions and read emotions, He's apathetic - He's boring but unique. *Niteowl:* classic hero, nerd type of guy, he's a wuss. - Avoidant Personality Disorder, he believes he's of no good to anyone. - he's boring but also one of the only one's who's not a total fucking lunatic. *Ozymandias:* arrogant type of villain, his moral compass twists his ideology. - suffering from Machiavellism or Narcissistic Personality Disorder, mad with power, think's he's a god, thinks he is humanity's next generation in evolution. *Silk spectre:* suffers from Histrionic Personality Disorder, always needs attention, overly sexual behavior, no control of emotions - manipulative and egocentric. *The Comedian:* he suffers from Antisocial Personality Disorder, no regard for others feelings, not a care in the world for rules, norms or morals. - He is really interesting when it comes to a personal point of view of things.
anti-social is the same as psychopathy/sociopaths comedian is a nihilist, that more of a philosophy rather then a lack of feeling. He's apathetic. I guess nihilist can be psychopaths, but in this case he can feel emotion.
dennis oxbøll no, it's also a mental disorder. It's the reestablished term of socio/psychopathy. Anti=against social=society So, Antisocial personality disorder, antisocial for sort www.theravive.com/therapedia/Antisocial-Personality-Disorder-DSM--5-301.7-(F60.2)
Fun fact: Rorschach was the inspiration for Levi from attack on titan. They have the same backstory and the author even said that Levi is a short guy who hits really hard because of Rorschach.
one thing I like about Rorschach: Realism when you are surrounded by 10 cops punching and kicking you. you don't knock them all out in 2 hits. you get your ass kicked. Batman!
omgomgmikeomgomg Stop being douchebags about it, just because people doesn´t think the way that all of you think. Watchmen is my favorite graphic novel but that doesn't mean that everyone has to think like me. Accept different opinions and grow up for god sake.
Could be a prequel of his work before and during his time as a Watchmen. We know from the actual origin comic of Rorschach that he used to work with Nite Owl and had a good deal of solo cases beforehand too.
MrDexterrock I don't hate the movie, but it just doesn't hold a candle to the original comic. I always thought a movie treatment of it would fail, there just isn't enough time to cover all the depth of the source material. It should have been made into a TV series instead.
the original batman voice wasn't even supposed to be raspy , it was supposed to be dark but also dominant and commanding. he was never raspy even in the comics . only rorchach was known to have a voice like that because of his bubbles
Trivial611 its comic logic , with block like sharp bubbles with computer fonts means they are electronic like ironman and when they are red they might be angry . black might mean sinister and dark like venom or other dark characters . raspy bubbles have disfigured with some sharp and soft edges . before the movie came out , Alan Moore in his interview would read the novel and would do the rorchach voice raspy/
rorscach has a lot of fans because: even though he has no superpowers he`s highly respectable and will do what is needed when the time comes. much like batman.
Except for one difference. When push comes to shove, Batman won't do what's necessary for the greater good (killing Joker), whereas vigilantes like Rorschach will make the call without question. Yeah, it's inhumane to kill another human, but in the end it's the ones like Rorschach that actually save lives. Look at Jigsaw, from the SAW movies. He's portrayed as the bad guy at first, but as the series continue you understand that he does what no one else will, and deals with criminals as they deserve it. He serves justice as it should be.
madd ace he was by no means an antihero. he actively sought out and attempted to bring justice. He was a very elemental hero, sociopathic, but definitely a hero archetype.
madd ace He was just obsessed with the common good, he accepted death and the whole lets kill a million to save a billion plan but said to reveal it to public for even the smallest reason of why.
You could've mentioned that he's a lot like Batman: masked vigilante without any real superpowers who uses his martial arts skills and intellect to fight crime. The difference is that Rorschach is more "realistic" and darker, killing those that he fells deserve it. Compared to Rorschach Batman is a little goodie goodie.
SONYroxs I know it wasn't the best laid out movie, and yes sometimes (like 10 mins) the movie got boring and irrelevant, but this is the first mature superhero movie. This is the only superhero movie i actually emotionally connected with any of the characters, and cared for. If you like superhero movies made for kids and made to sell, your probably are right, dark night is the best. But if you read the comics, this is what you should want from a movie representation, not a pg 13 movie for kid
TheClanNemoireProductions I think I should narrate some of the facts about the origins of the Watchmen saga for you to make it clear that this epic is pretty far from a Batman ripoff. It was back in the old comic days that DC comics got the licenses of several characters from the bankrupted Charleton Comics publishing. The DC figureheads decided to let Alan Moore, one of Western comics' most conceptually potent writers, to make a rebooting story for the charleton characters, including The Blue Beetle, The Question, Nightshade, Captain Atom, The Peacemaker, and Thunderbolt. As a response, Moore wrote out what would be the entire storyline of Watchmen for this project, because, well, he's a genius who crafted Helraiser and V For Vendetta. However, DC comics found the story to be slightly unacceptable, due to its controversial concept depth that literally killed some characters or rendered them unusable for future storylines. This is why the charcters were completely reimagined into new characters specifically for this story: The Question became Rorscharch, Blue Beetle became Nite Owl II, Night Shade became the second Silk Specter, Captain Atom became Doctor Manhattan, The Peacemaker became The Comedian, and Thunderbolt became Ozymandias. As you can see, no Batman is involved here. Howevr, Watchmen is a best buddy with Frank Miller's "Dark Knight Returns" as two of the most intense superhero comics ever made.
Nima Emkani For you to proclaim Watchmen to be the best comic story, how many comic arcs have you actually read? Demon in the Bottle? Judas Contract? Killing Joke? God Loves Man Kills?
Man I'm going to miss Rorschach. It sucks how he died in the movie. I kinda liked his character a little. He was a great vigilante and a pretty good anti-hero
He jeopardized a world peace over something that had already happened. New Yorkers died for world peace, Rorschach made sure it was for nothing but his own conscience.
anal lover no he didn't try to save any lives.. They were all already dead. It was over. There was nothing to be gained from revealing the truth. The only result of telling the truth was that the peace was destroyed.
Oh piss off. Ever tell someone that you like something? That's what this is. No need for sarcasm. If your a smartass you first must be smart. Then you're just a dumbass
Because people who doesn't read the comic expected something like all other superhero movies. So lot of explosions, easy plot, a bit of humor. "The Watchmen" is just too deep and hard for them. People just expected someting else.
Demogorgon White I think you're right, about expectations at least. I don't remember really liking the movie, but after learning more about Watchmen through other sources, I can see why people are so enthusiastic about it. Maybe the movie is better as a companion piece to the original graphic novels than a standalone?
Holy shit! Just realized Rorschach is the embodiment of Kant's view on morality aka Deontology while Ozymandias represents the philosophy Utilitarianism!!! Like if you ever took an intro philosophy class!
surprisingly not. Just so happens I watched this video before an ethics lecture. I'd always known that Ozymandias was a utilitarian just never knew Rorschach's behavior actually had a school of thought.
The one character that truly cared, and was intuitive enough to sense a larger, more sinister plot unfolding while everyone told him he was paranoid. He realized that we as a race need to have a moral compass *simply for the sake of helping and protecting each other* rather than out of a sense of religious dogma. He realized that peace based on a lie could not last. At best, Ozymandias only postponed the end of the world. If you need to go so far as to spend several years and billions of dollars to play the most intricate practical joke on the human race just to keep them from annihilating each other...maybe they're not worth saving to begin with. It's been said many times, and I'll say it again; Rorschach truly was the Nietzschean Superhuman.
Stopaskingformyname He _was_ paranoid. What intuition? All of hos detective work was based on a paranoid, erroneous belief. If it weren't for Dan Dreiberg, he probably wouldn't even have come close to exposing Veidt. I really don't know about "moral compass" thing. Rorschach didn't kill criminals for any other reason than his own dogmatic beliefs (ironic, huh?). He was perfectly fine with rape (as long as the rapist was a person he liked). I don't think he had any real moral compass beyond his black-white insanity. Peace based on a lie cannot last? Any historical examples? This is actually ironic, because the new Doomsday Clock storyline reveals that Veidt's scheme actually kept world peace going for several years. It wasn't until a journalist actually seriously investigated Rorschach's journal (and Veidt was exposed) that the world turned to shit and the US and Russia were at war again. Oops. Honestly, Rorschach is a great character, but people in his fanbase (such as yourself) tend to oversell him just a _little_ bit.
Their making up stories for DC and the Arrowverse. A lot which didn't happen or wasn't accurate. They could do the prequel first then do a spinoff of the Watchmen
+Freya Mikaelson It's not that simple. The DC universe has more than 75 years and going worth of history that writers of a show could pick from and alter to fit the show. Watchmen is a short series in its own universe with a set beginning and end. They couldn't give it the same treatment unless they decided to make it a miniseries.
***** If you haven't read the comics then you can't truly appreciate Batman imo. Even the Dark Knight trilogy (which is AMAZING) didn't capture his true essence. Batman is a badass, but he's also a brilliant detective, something no movie yet has managed to portray.
***** I'm not telling you to go out and buy the comics, but to judge Batman without knowing the character fully is a bit shortsighted. He's definitely a badass, and he's also leaps and bounds more intelligent than most of the characters people compare him to like Rorschach, Punisher, etc.
***** If you decide to I'd definitely recommend starting with issue #30 of Detective Comics in the New 52. It's a new storyline that's been pretty amazing so far. Also if you don't mind weekly series I'd say pick up Batman Eternal as the story and art for that one are probably some of the best stuff to *ever* come out of the New 52.
I liked Dr. Manhattan's concept, but this guy is the one that really connected with me. I think he's an awesome character. If it was up to me, I'd have a series of movies made with him as the main character. While other heroes have superpowers, filler drama in their life, cliche struggles with their inner selves and what-not, Rorschach has a deep character that, while somewhat dark, is nonetheless incredibly interesting, unique and entertaining in its own way.
Oddly enough, if you think about it. The movie was all about him, even at the end it ended with him like the beginning. Overall the movie follows him and his last ever quest to find the big plot. Every other characters just seemed like minor characters. If you're considering his appearances throughout the movie without his mask he had more screen time than most of the heros.
Epidemic Pain batman doesnt kill because he would be afraid of it. batman doesnt kill because he doesnt want to murdering scum like the one who killed his parents. tho that doesnt mean that he would not brake every last bone in your body. also he did "kill" joker.in dark knight returns. batman doesnt rest during the day, than he has to be bruce and go through different kind of crap as leader of company and millionaire. he cant go out as batman during the daytime. neither he compromises, he does everything in his power to do what is right.
MrAnimepredator Lets compare, batman that, batman does not kill because it brakes his code despite the fact that joker killed thousands among those Jason Todd and he still did not kill the joker( or anyone else for that matter) while Rorschach is,you fuck with me and my morals you die He doesn't rest during the day?Explain why, because hes batman thats why,Rorschach is barely sleeps but does sleep, everyone needs to sleep....except batman We never see batmans day around the office if I recall, and the day time never bothered batman when he was in the justice league did it? And batman compromises,he revelead his identity to the justice league,He adopted like 4 kids at this point despite being "the Caped Crusader" that does everything on his own among others He does not make everything to do what is right,Red hood does that, not batman
fizzledizzle62 No he couldn't because batman fans will always say BECAUSE HES BATMAN THEREFORE HE WINS Don't believe me,people say that batman can beat god damn superman just cause
You forgot to mention that Rorshach was originally The Question from Justice League, as Watchmen was what Alan Moore intended to do with the characters acquired from Charlton Comics, until they were nicked from him by another project.
"None of you seem to understand...I'm not locked in here with you! YOU'RE LOCKED IN HERE WITH ME!!!" You couldn't have picked a better scene from the movie to illustrate Haley's performance.
They marketed it as a superhero movie, but in reality the point of it isn't action, but a philosophical statement. As a result, lots of people who saw it were never going to like it, and some comic fans were upset that they changed the ending, even if the films end made more sense.
OggyTheTiger Film ending Ozymandias makes it look like Dr. Manhattan destroys New York in order to unite the people of Earth against a common foe, and thus end the Cold War, and forcing Manhattan to flee, as well as making him kill Rorschach to make sure the lie stays real. Book does the same but by pretending a space alien kills a load of people in New York, which is a) ridiculous, and b) fails to explain why Manhattan leaves.
I hated the movie, not because they didn't adapt it right, but some stuff should just be left to the page. I really didn't feel like this was nearly as good to watch, as it was to read
Rorschach is by far my favorite superhero. He's the perfect badass. He knows several forms of martial arts, as good of a detective as Batman, and he can turn every day objects into lethal weapons. He also has morals and is chivalrous towards women. I can not express how much I love this character.
We all love Rorschach because he does what most hero's won't or can't do: kill. Although he, Dr. Manhattan, and the Comedian all killed many people, few other big name hero's will take the plunge into murder for justice, and claim it for the common good.
Exactly! Even guys like the Punisher. He is willing to get his hands dirty if it means ridding this place of the human waste that plagues our world. Rorschach is an extremely complex and Bad Ass character. I am glad they actually portrayed him very well in the movie. Rorschach ='s LEGEND!
Correction: marvel universe characters are prone to it, not dc. very rarely does DC thats why DC made a different universe for their killers for Watchmen.
Both Rorschach and Batman are pretty much human. Thats the logic; wheres yours at? You didn't even understand the question. Anyways you probably think Batman isn't really a superhero either.
+American Amadeus according to the comic is it a creepy monetone all the way up till they rip off his "face" and he FREAKS (completely changing his text bubbles). Though it's back by the time he's incarnated.
TheSweetestCurse That's your very sorry opinion. The movie was a masterpiece (especially the director's cut). And the few changes that were made were the right ones.
Truth be told, the guy in the movie did a superb job as Rorschach.
He was perfect.
y big ups for dat actor
Cosmic Flow Could you repeat that? In English?
Yes. yes he did. *gives you Rorschach, in his current reincarnation as dalmatian puppy :)
I KNOW RIGHT?????
"I'm not locked in here with you. You're locked in here with me."
Jackie Earle Haley did a phenomenal job in his role!
Just like what he did with Freddy Krueger.
Say what you want about that movie, but his purformance was absolutely bone-chilling
The best dialogue in the whole movie
So this is where that came from!
y'all gotta redo this one. Nothing about that is ORIGINS. Its just the entire Watchmen story
Yeah, this had nothing to do with his origins so much as it was a sum-up of the whole plot. Come on, y'all. There's plenty of material on Rorschach to have focused on nothing but where this guy came from and what he was about

+RafaAnto that's not Rorschach's origins, that's just the reason why Rorschach started killing people
The Watchmen movie was under rated
Agreed, still one of my favorites
Kj Ayy it sure is an amazing movie.
Kj Ayy I'm still in love with this movie
Kj Ayy Watchmen is one of the highest ranked movies ever. Tf you talking about?
Nah. found it boring a way shallower than the book.
What I love about Rorshack is that to disguise himself he takes OFF a mask
I don't get how people can hate on the Watchman movie. I thought it was pretty good.
The novel is even better. Trust me!
Rorschach's got the perfect batman voice.
No, Wolverine
+Cody Luis no, batman
The answer is always Batman
Too bad he looks like woody allen
Batman voice is not hardcore, its only Nolan worst idea of making him voiced like that, my favorite batman voice is kevin conroy, The bat voice changer in the bvs was good tho
"Men get arrested"
"Dogs get put down"
The day if he ever confronted the Joker
Joker will probably end up dying even worse than the first guy Rorschach killed.
gr8gmr doubted joker is above him
@Fire Heart
He doesn't. Rorschach is just a human in peak condition. Doctor Manhattan is the only one with actual superpowers.
Fire Heart he’s just strong he’s no superman
@Fire Heart i agree with u
Rorschach is like a more brutal, more uncompromising Batman in the alternate universe.
In some comic comparison discussion, he's being compared to The Question.
+Greg Rizal Rorschach is more like Bruce Wayne's father as batman
Perfect place for Rorschach is Mortal KOMBAT!!!!
+Greg Rizal And he's shorter. And he can't fight as good.... and isn't as rich.... but he's as badass as Batman.
+Greg Rizal you man like what batman SHOULD have been after dark knight strikes again?
everyone always says Rorschach is like Batman but really he is more like Punisher combined with Question.
*Punisher* thankyou!
Yup
If I’m not wrong Rorschach was inspired by the Question and the Question was inspired by Mr. A
And The Spoiler
J, Ludwig yeah I’d like to think he’s a combination of the Punisher and Batman
Imagine if Rorschach had his own Netflix show
2019: say no more
lol u see the future
GOD DAMN YES
@@ianmacario7359I mean the actor who played him should play carnage
that'd be so good
I have to say Rorschach is my favourite superhero. It was tragic when he was killed. Having studied psychopaths though, I don't think he is one.
It became clear that he wouldn't survive this adventure. He had what Alan Moore called a king-sized death wish.he wanted to die in the most heroic way he could think of.
And in the end his Journal is the one peace of true and black mark in Oz's plan.
He is more of Anti-Hero I would say then Superhero .
Menmatters but what is rorshark power's ?
awesomeness
Just watched this again last night. Such a great movie in my opinion, and despite the fact that I haven't read the comics, I'm glad to see that the movie has primarily stuck to the original story. Even though I knew it was coming, I was still devastated when he got killed. He's probably one of my favourite heroes.
This is exactly what i was thinking. I watched it yesterday

Before rorshach explode im saying "no, no, plz no" then ¡BUUM! :'(. I hope they made a precuel about rorshach.

"We've chosen to follow the only series that Rorschach has ever been in." This isn't an origin story, Its just a summary of the entire story of Watchman.
I guess it's a proven fact: Rorschach IS the Watchmen.
But yeah, I agree, it seems like a summary of the Watchmen series, not Rorschach specifically.
This was annoying I wanted in-depth information about Rorschach. It's even more annoying that whilst I was going to give WM it's dues on little information, said information is readily available. Though Kovacs learned how to cut and fashion the material successfully with heated implements, he soon grew bored with it, as it served him no real purpose at the time.[13]
Two years later when buying a newspaper on his way to work in March 1964, Walter read about the rape and murder of Kitty Genovese, whom he believed was the Italian woman who had rejected the dress. In the mid 1960s, he teamed up with Nite Owl II, a partnership which proved highly successful at battling organized crime.[13]
In 1975, an investigation into the kidnapping of a young girl named Blair Roche led to the transformation of the "soft" Kovacs into the ruthlessly uncompromising Rorschach.

He's one of the best anti-heroes ever!!!!!! :D
Supermovies ikr he gives me ideas for anti hero that im creating
Supermovies
To me there isn't much anti to him. He was the song of the executioner nothing more . he wasn't killing people over a speeding ticket.
"While many heroes are in the limelight and uphold peace and being a good person, there is always someone like Rorschach, a person who makes the scum that seeps through the cracks and evades the gaze of even superman, it ain't pretty, it isn't clean, but someone's gotta do it."
Random Elias, sound like a good line for your character? You'll probably have to take out the heroes names but the premise is solid.
Eh dark hero

This guy needs to be in a franchise series, tv drama and a blog. Highly under-rated hero.
+Nathaniel Charles welll hbo is discussing with zack snyder to make a series about watchmen ;)
+TheLegoproduc Sequels are not Snyders forte. Neither is world-building and maintaining a good movie.
+Anders Linden he will adapt the before watchmen comics series.
Watchmen is so much deeper than some of the generic shit we get these days.
The best superhero movie
RedLightning007 *Cough* Civil Argument *Cough* every single MCU movie that isn't ironman 1 and 2 or hulk *cough*
xDark Star117x
Iron Man 3....Thor 2..etc
RedLightning007 yh the actor did an amazing job
One of the essential comics right up there with Maus and The Spirit in it's impact on sequential art.
Watchmen did for comics what Citizen Kane did for film in it's own way.
Rorschach is truly a badass hero...he deserves more screen. We want a spin off about more adventures of Rorschach
If I honesty say....zack Snyder is an awesome director though it always feels like he is missing some things. His Man of steel was awesome. He presented truth of being a gift instead of showing how cool is it to be a superhero. Though in the end he couldn't manage the same tone...the film didn't needed that heavy cgi effects in the end.
Even sucker punch was good (I know this gonna offend many)....he presented story of a girl so differently how her imaginations can create possibilities
I seriously think after Chris Nolan....the director doing best character development of the protagonist is zack snyder
nathan tesfamicael Watchmen's it's own universe, DC just published the graphic novel. It'd be hard to have that universe share the same universe as DC, you would think that Superman would've stopped the fake alien invasion somewhere.
except for christopher nolan sucks you dumbass
it happen before superman was old enough to stop it
***** well many dislike chris Nolan cause they blamed him for turning movies that were supposed to be full with fights and blasts turned into some soap opera drama....
But I still feel the way he did the character development and presented the twists in each and every movie he directed was just awesome....
But...well Michael bay's movie always commercially outrun chris movies...
So yeah no matter how bad he is making his movies...people are there still appreciating it
In the same way...no matter how bad chris Nolan is...people are there appreciating him
nathan tesfamicael not sure about your timeline dilemma...but events of watchmen happened in an alternate world
The events of world war 2hppened in a different way where the watchmen helped them win the war

+dennis oxbøll Although Rorschach may struggle with feeling empathy, he is capable of it so he's not a sociopath
Perfect. Commenting so I can come back to this thread easier.
anti-social is the same as psychopathy/sociopaths
comedian is a nihilist, that more of a philosophy rather then a lack of feeling.
He's apathetic.
I guess nihilist can be psychopaths, but in this case he can feel emotion.
Steward of Autumn anti-social isn't a mental disorder, it's an action.
dennis oxbøll no, it's also a mental disorder. It's the reestablished term of socio/psychopathy.

Fun fact: Rorschach was the inspiration for Levi from attack on titan.
They have the same backstory and the author even said that Levi is a short guy who hits really hard because of Rorschach.
Ozymandias was also the inspiration of Erwin
This is more of Watchmen (movie version) abridged more than Rorschach's origin.

Rorschach would have been a great TV series character, but sadly Doctor Manhattan made sure that couldn't happen!
Could be a prequel of his work before and during his time as a Watchmen. We know from the actual origin comic of Rorschach that he used to work with Nite Owl and had a good deal of solo cases beforehand too.
@L Yeah... about that T.V. show. They ruined it. Lol
Dr.manhattan is dick
Docter Manhattan is a sex symbol, afterall

This video doesn't seem like you're telling his origin story, it's more like you're just saying everything he does in the Watchmen comics.
hey batman I found your role model
+O.G. Loki Batman is way older than Rorschach.
so
+O.G. no, they are just birds of the same feather
except one bird kills people whereas the other doesnt
O.G. Loki That's right. Actually, if Batman and Rorschach ever met, Bats would probably bring him down for murder.
still cant understand why people hated the movie and snyder!while he did the best comic movie ever!
Most people didn't like the blue dick tbh
btw the dick was a mistake of snyder, cuz it wasnt needed to be shown in the whole movie!
MrDexterrock I don't hate the movie, but it just doesn't hold a candle to the original comic. I always thought a movie treatment of it would fail, there just isn't enough time to cover all the depth of the source material. It should have been made into a TV series instead.
MrRappScallion Watch the ulimate cut. 3h 35min long

I love the line "none of you seem to understand, I'm not locked in here with you... you're locked in here with me".
Agents of shield?
"YOU'RE LOCKED IN HERE WITH ME!"
voice like batman, lines of joker. this is where they based them?
oh
Actually he was based on the question
Rorschach did the voice better than Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy
the original batman voice wasn't even supposed to be raspy , it was supposed to be dark but also dominant and commanding. he was never raspy even in the comics . only rorchach was known to have a voice like that because of his bubbles
kingpiccolo colin How do you know if he was raspy or not in the comics (O_o)
I believe his speech/dialogue bubble (Don't know the official name) looks like it's distorted or something
Rorschach Kovacs It is the voice of saints and the most beautiful birds are jealous.
rorscach has a lot of fans because: even though he has no superpowers he`s highly respectable and will do what is needed when the time comes. much like batman.
Rorschach was supposed to be hated and the author was so confused when people started loving him.
herogamer555 Thats because hes awesome :)
***** probably not, Inhuman means not human, inhumane means without compassion or pity.
But Batman dosen't kill people. Rorschach is more like a costumed Dexter Morgan.
Honestly, the most badass superhero out there.
more like antihero
madd ace he was by no means an antihero. he actively sought out and attempted to bring justice. He was a very elemental hero, sociopathic, but definitely a hero archetype.
Harrison Moore Like Travis Bickle.
madd ace He was just obsessed with the common good, he accepted death and the whole lets kill a million to save a billion plan but said to reveal it to public for even the smallest reason of why.
iMyoto Nice
I may be pushing it, but I really think he's better than Batman.
Rorsach isnt fighting ninjas, or Mr. Freeze. They are not really comprable.
Not pushing it. He definitely is
Definitely pushing it, Batman is over Rorschach. You think Batman can't do anything Rorschach can do, and can you say the same vice versa.
I enjoy him more than Batman honestly
Except Batman is basically superhuman.Rorschach isn't.
i loved rorschach's voice and the portrayal of that character in watchmen movie
one of the best heroes to ever be created,no doubt about it
''I'm not locked in here with you. You're locked in here with me!'' Man i love Rorschach
loved this movie, and especially rorschach
gianhet until he died
Yeah Rorschach was my favorite. I am not all into Dr. Manhattan cause he is like a super all powerful being.
He died, but he still out smarted everyone in the end. He got his journal, a long with all the secrets released to the world.
Jackie Earle Haley did such a remarkable job portraying Rorschach in the movie!!! he deserves a lot of credit
In my opinion, Rorschach is more like an anti-hero while Batman is true superhero
Dare I say, Watchmen is probably the greatest superhero comic story... And even movie
Greatest superhero movie? LMFAO is that some kind of joke?
SONYroxs I know it wasn't the best laid out movie, and yes sometimes (like 10 mins) the movie got boring and irrelevant, but this is the first mature superhero movie. This is the only superhero movie i actually emotionally connected with any of the characters, and cared for. If you like superhero movies made for kids and made to sell, your probably are right, dark night is the best. But if you read the comics, this is what you should want from a movie representation, not a pg 13 movie for kid
So 3 characters that represent batman is good and the rest that are representing other heroes.
He really was the coolest superhero I've ever seen.
Wish I could see more of him.
That last quote, most badass thing i have ever heard.
Seriously though
Rorschach is more of a hero then everyone in watchmen and batman combined
He jeopardized a world peace over something that had already happened. New Yorkers died for world peace, Rorschach made sure it was for nothing but his own conscience.
Corey Knight
He tried to save lives he believed that killing good people is wrong and its not okay just because others will live
anal lover no he didn't try to save any lives.. They were all already dead. It was over. There was nothing to be gained from revealing the truth. The only result of telling the truth was that the peace was destroyed.
Corey Knight
he was revealing the truth of it was not an act of justice but a killing of millions of innocent people
paulsbunyans
could not agree more
One of the best characters ever created. Love his cynical take on morality and hypocrisy. And the actor did a PHENOMENAL performance as Rorschach.
I freaking love Rorschach, if I could be any superhero, it would be Rorschach.
Nice to know this
Oh piss off. Ever tell someone that you like something? That's what this is. No need for sarcasm. If your a smartass you first must be smart. Then you're just a dumbass
Good news dude. Rorschach is just a normal dude and has no powers. Nothing is stopping you from buying a mask online and becoming him.
PkSuperProd well said. be deadpool and just wear a rorschach mask for like £20, lol
Sorry can't help u
The movie was so good. I don't know why it wasn't more popular or successful.
Because people who doesn't read the comic expected something like all other superhero movies. So lot of explosions, easy plot, a bit of humor. "The Watchmen" is just too deep and hard for them. People just expected someting else.
Demogorgon White
I think you're right, about expectations at least.
Trevor Tharp You just read the wiki pages.
surprisingly not. Just so happens I watched this video before an ethics lecture. I'd always known that Ozymandias was a utilitarian just never knew Rorschach's behavior actually had a school of thought.
Trevor Tharp This was so obvious, you shouldn't need to be taught that
***** what I'm suppose to know what Deontology is before I've ever heard about it before?
Trevor Tharp Alan Moore knew what he was doing.
most twisted, badass character ever
The one character that truly cared, and was intuitive enough to sense a larger, more sinister plot unfolding while everyone told him he was paranoid.
He realized that we as a race need to have a moral compass *simply for the sake of helping and protecting each other* rather than out of a sense of religious dogma. He realized that peace based on a lie could not last. At best, Ozymandias only postponed the end of the world. If you need to go so far as to spend several years and billions of dollars to play the most intricate practical joke on the human race just to keep them from annihilating each other...maybe they're not worth saving to begin with.
It's been said many times, and I'll say it again; Rorschach truly was the Nietzschean Superhuman.
thesis statement, peace based on a lie could not last? I really loved your comment
This isn't the origins, this is the entire plot of the movie/comic book.
Unlike most superheroes, Rorschach only has one story, so there really isn't anything else to tell other than the plot.
Duh
DUH, jk just trollin ya
This is not just a Superhero Origins video, it is also a synopsis of Watchmen pretty much.
They should have made Watchmen into an HBO show.
No, its a single story with some prequels, not enough material for a whole TV show.
I agree, they could easily do a prequel of this Comic. There's plenty of plot and character exposition that could be displayed.
They're gonna ruin it
Rorschach is actually my favorite vigilante, so badass and menacing. Makes batman look like a wimp. IN MY HONEST OPINION
*****
If you haven't read the comics then you can't truly appreciate Batman imo. Even the Dark Knight trilogy (which is AMAZING) didn't capture his true essence. Batman is a badass, but he's also a brilliant detective, something no movie yet has managed to portray.
*****
I'm not telling you to go out and buy the comics, but to judge Batman without knowing the character fully is a bit shortsighted. He's definitely a badass, and he's also leaps and bounds more intelligent than most of the characters people compare him to like Rorschach, Punisher, etc.
*****
If you decide to I'd definitely recommend starting with issue #30 of Detective Comics in the New 52. It's a new storyline that's been pretty amazing so far. Also if you don't mind weekly series I'd say pick up Batman Eternal as the story and art for that one are probably some of the best stuff to *ever* come out of the New 52.
Sectai
You're really going to compare a 75 year old comic to today's standards? Really, dude?
"none of you seem to understand, I'm not locked in here with you.. you locked in here with me!" Great line! delivered perfectly!
Truth
was that a quote for another movie? it seems ive heard that from something else
Agreed. The way he said it was both badass AND terrifying at the same time.
In the comics, the killer was burnt alive. But in the movies, he became a human coconut
THAT is the kind of hero we need
eh homicidal anything
+Allen Jacques Honestly I'd settle for Aquaman at this point.
Absolutely! The justice system doesn't work. Why let criminals live longer than they should when they didn't care about ending other people's lives?!.
What if it turns out your criminal was an innocent man? You can't release someone from death.
Oh well then
not really the origins so much as the plot
Rorschach has the most badass voice you can ahve as a superhero
*Ahem* Kevin Conroy would beg to differ.
Gotham Knight everybody quit that Kevin Conroy best voice ever sh*t
sawyer grey Then Mark Hamill *And he IS the best Batman voice ever though, at least*
Conroy is the best Batman voice, but Haley did a great job of Rorschach
tied with batmans steroid voice
He was the best character in both the comic and the movie. Without him, the movie would have been boring.
I'm thinking somebody needs to make a 'Rorschach" origins movie.
Rorschach is the best part of Watchmen. Loved him in the graphic novel and in the movie.
Fuck yeah he is
I've been wanting the origins of the Question now for longest time now!
Wow... That is a good one. Even though I'm not a huge fan I am curious of his origins.
***** The Question is that dude!
showlegacy619 Rorschach was based of the Question.
They need to bring the Question on Arrow!!!
Ian Karels
Arrow has ruined enough, they don't need to ruin Question.
him and the punisher are the best in my opinion , they keep it real
Rorshack and Deathstroke are the coolest comic book characters of all time!
deadpool is also cool
@@dinothunder629he's just a parody
Rorschach = homeless Batman
Hell no
Unlike that wuss batman,Rorschach never compromises, never rests and he is not afraid to kill
MrAnimepredator Lets compare, batman that, batman does not kill because it brakes his code despite the fact that joker killed thousands among those Jason Todd and he still did not kill the joker( or anyone else for that matter) while Rorschach is,you fuck with me and my morals you die
He doesn't rest during the day?Explain why, because hes batman thats why,Rorschach is barely sleeps but does sleep, everyone needs to sleep....except batman
We never see batmans day around the office if I recall, and the day time never bothered batman when he was in the justice league did it?
And batman compromises,he revelead his identity to the justice league,He adopted like 4 kids at this point despite being "the Caped Crusader" that does everything on his own among others
He does not make everything to do what is right,Red hood does that, not batman
Epidemic Pain Agreed. Rorschach could take Batman anyday.
fizzledizzle62 No he couldn't because batman fans will always say
BECAUSE HES BATMAN THEREFORE HE WINS
Don't believe me,people say that batman can beat god damn superman just cause
I think that Rorchach and the Comedian would make an interesting duo.
Both savage individuals, but have unique ethics.
Would have been such a sick spin off on hbo or some shit
i think Rorshach should have a solo film
You forgot to mention that Rorshach was originally The Question from Justice League, as Watchmen was what Alan Moore intended to do with the characters acquired from Charlton Comics, until they were nicked from him by another project.
Rorschach is one of my favorite heros. Cause he is so badass and so truthfull about the world.
"None of you seem to understand...I'm not locked in here with you!
YOU'RE LOCKED IN HERE WITH ME!!!"
You couldn't have picked a better scene from the movie to illustrate Haley's performance.
Watchman was 10 times better then Man of steal
dejan mandic Ikr. Man of Steel was certainly better than Watchmen and Man of Steal altogether.
Maybe I'm too late but can I know what did that man steal?
Bone apple tee!
@@orignalazian5130 wtf? Watchmen is better than MoS and BvS combined bruh
Both are masterpiece
This movie to me is one of the best superhero films ever made, if not the best.
I really really really don't get why it's so underrated.
They marketed it as a superhero movie, but in reality the point of it isn't action, but a philosophical statement. As a result, lots of people who saw it were never going to like it, and some comic fans were upset that they changed the ending, even if the films end made more sense.
Alex Zarandi
What exactly did they change about the ending?
This and V for Vendetta are, personally, the 2 best and most accurate superhero movies made by DC
The movie was honestly excellent and well done for the screen time it had and Jackie Earle's Rorschach was perfect, Jackie is the perfect choice.
man, i thought this was an origin story not the entire movie, shoulda read the description
Watchmen was my first venture into that genre. Like nothing I’d ever seen. Dark, intense, the acting, especially JEH, was superb.
Rorschach is by far my favorite superhero. He's the perfect badass. He knows several forms of martial arts, as good of a detective as Batman, and he can turn every day objects into lethal weapons. He also has morals and is chivalrous towards women. I can not express how much I love this character.
i fucking love Watchmen
+Joshy Song Sp___ everywhere?
I read watchmen and it's my favorite comic book of all time
We all love Rorschach because he does what most hero's won't or can't do: kill.
Ronin
Hmm a character having a black and white moral compass and yet being blurred in his methods of justice. That is truly a dynamic character.
Spiderman never kills
Correction: marvel universe characters are prone to it, not dc. very rarely does DC thats why DC made a different universe for their killers for Watchmen.
John Doe I agree. I.E. Dexter. I dig it.
"you all don't seem to get it... I'm not locked in here with you. YOU'RE LOCKED IN WITH ME!!" My favorite character by far
I've read the series multiple times it is by far the best superhero story ever
Rorschach is one of my favorite superheroes because he gives the evil guys exactly what they deserve
Rorschach is not a superhero...
dtox12 Then I guess Batman isn't a superhero? come on
Tyler Gutierrez What is your logic? Your statement has zero substance.
dtox12 you first! where's your "substance" eh? what do have that differentiates rorschach from the bat-man? neither of them hold "super"powers.
Both Rorschach and Batman are pretty much human. Thats the logic; wheres yours at? You didn't even understand the question. Anyways you probably think Batman isn't really a superhero either.
Rorschach was such a badass. "I'm not locked in here with you. You're locked in here with me!" Rorschach and The Comedian were my favorite characters.
Rorschach was such a great character, nice usage of the comic book, and movie clips. Good job.
How is this explaining his origin? You are just re-telling the parts of the comic/movie that featured Rorschach..
PkSuperProd Wel it tells his past and the girl case where Rorschach was kinda born, but yeah it just tells the plot of watchmen
"Little did anyone know he sent his jornal to the press..." You know, as a final flipping of the bird.
Rorschach was definitely my favourite in that movie.
Watchmen was a great movie, 8/10 maybe a little too long and stuffs but the movie was different, it was a cool watch.
long? it shoul have been longer-or a trilogy. Because the comic is super detailed and long
+LeThayle the comic book was the greatest ever made
Wish it was longer, 9/10 imo
comic was better
Goochkins lel It's nearly 3 hours long
Honestly, I always pictured Rorschach having a flat, monotone voice instead of that annoying raspy voice form The Dark Knight.
Sir Cameltoe I thought I was the only one! That's how I always read his voice, too. :)
+American Amadeus I haven't read the comics but Jackie is nothing like Bale. Bale sucks!
Yeah I kinda pictured him sounding like Alan Rickman as Snape, but American.
+American Amadeus according to the comic is it a creepy monetone all the way up till they rip off his "face" and he FREAKS (completely changing his text bubbles). Though it's back by the time he's incarnated.
If a Death Battle were to come to form, let's have Rorschach and The Question go at it.
I think they would become friends and grab a pint or go fight crime together!
omg that would be epic
I never noticed but your right. Rorschach and Question are just alike.
MrSeaborn1 Well, Rorschach was originally intended to be the question.
Really? Was the Watchmen ever associated with DC Comics?
The movie is very under appreciated. Its amazing! One of my favorite super hero films....maybe even my favorite.
It's a horrible adaptation of a story that was multi-layered and meant to push the boundaries of the comics medium that was never meant to be filmed.
TheSweetestCurse I'm guessing you didn't see the directors cut
TheSweetestCurse
That's your very sorry opinion. The movie was a masterpiece (especially the director's cut). And the few changes that were made were the right ones.
It wasn't the best but when it comes to superhero adaptations it really worked out.
AMEN!
" You don't seem to Understand I'm not locked in here with you. YOUR LOCKED IN HERE WITH ME!!!! "
