    With today’s social media, the manufacturers have more opportunities than ever to hear consumers’ concerns about their products. Apparently the manufacturers don’t listen and don’t care. Amazing!

    Hello my Friend,
    I was having same problems and ready to take a sledge hammer to it. Here is what I discovered.
    It is unbalanced. Even though it is perfectly level ... the tub needs to be reset. stand in front of the washing machine,,, reach out and grasp the "dashboard" where all the controls are. Pull it toward you so that the back of the washer cones about 4-5 inches off the floor... now drop it! I did it a second time for good measure. IT WORKED! We threw in a load of clothes and Voila! it worked seamlessly and did not move at all; I sat my full cup of coffee on top and hardly a vibration at all.
    This seems to be a closely held secret the repairmen have. I had called Lowes about returning it.
    I was sooooo angry and disappointed but elated when this worked. My sister in law in the hills of Tennessee told me her daughter in law had this happen to her new GE and that is what the repair man did.
    Try it!

    Wow! Was there shipping bolts or packing on the inside that needed to be removed? I had to remove a few things attached to the drum to free it up our new washer. The manufacture secures the tub for shipping to keep it from getting damaged and it must be remove. Ok... so if you did that GREAT!
    My 2nd thought is this. A top loader need enough water to float the cloths so they can move freely as the agitator pushes them around. If the cloths can not move freely in the water the cloths will be pushed into a pile as the agitator jerks them around. Then the fun starts; your washer starts dancing like it's having a seizure. Select a higher water level so the water covers what you put into the washer and see what happens.

    Hi, I have the exact same model. I had it for about eight months or so with no problems. Then mine started doing the exact same thing; knotting up clothing, unbalancing the load, causing loud banging during the spin cycle. I checked and made sure the washer was level. That wasn't the problem. Then I would stop and readjust the clothes each time, but it would just knot them back up again. That went on for a month or so. I then broke out the tools and removed the top of the washer discovering that there are no straps at the top to help balance the load. Most washers have four rubber straps. I asked Marvin's, where I purchased the washer, about a recall and the washer not having the four straps like other/older models. They were clueless and just said that there was no recall. So, I purchased and added four springs, that helped with the banging, but the clothes were still being knotted up. I noticed that the waster was not filling up enough to cover the clothes, thus causing the clothes to knot up. I then cleaned the pressure hose and that fixed that problem. Yes mine is loud too. Overall I too am disappointed with the washer.

      i also have the same model. i realized that washing small/ medium loads on max was not the way to go. ive always used precise fill or max depending on the load size. when the clothes have too much water, they tend to get wrapped around, tangled and out of balance.

      That's when we got ours and we were happy till today out of nowhere it's banging and walking forward until it almost pulled the hose fittings off the wall.
      Took out some clothes as he said and rebalanced / redistributed evenly again and it walked forward all the way again.
      I know from past experience and personal repairs to our previous machines that it is one or more of the springs ( there are usually 3 or 4 attached from the surround of the drum to the base, or some models have little shock absorbers) I've not opened it yet but it's so far forward I was able to get behind it and there are no access screws.
      The silver metal back is held on under the white exterior metal, this means taking the top control panel off and undoing the whole outer shell to get to the springs etc.
      Also the video we just watched not only has probably got serval springs broken, the bearing under the drum is screeching, requiring the agitator to be removed, and the drum to get under the drum to get to the bearing.
      I'm sad to say these machines keep doing the same things to us within 3 year spans at most.
      We had a Amana previous to this GE last about 3 years, prior to that we had a Whirlpool (stacked wash/dryer) heating element went in the 2nd month. Then again a year later by which point the washer was banging like a snare drum and screeching.
      My friends, this phenomenon is officially known as "PLANNED OBSOLESCENCE"...

      I'm getting this model delivered today. Hope it works out. So many negative reviews here. This will be my fourth washer in 4 months. The first two were smaller portable models, 2.0 cu tub. One had software issues the other developed a leak that was too much to repair. Both were new. The 3rd one I bought used. It was about 20 years old and old fashioned like I wanted. The dealer claimed he renovated it. He lied. The third load I did it started making knocking sounds and cricket like noises. It started smoking like the belts were burning. He took it back telling me he didn't want a call every other day about the issues it had he claimed weren't there.

    I have the same model and I do 4 loads a day and it works fine, they are all noisy at the lower to mid level price points. The quieter ones have the direct drive systems but of course are more money and larger in size. The noise you hear during the wash cycle is the same across other brands like Whirlpool and Maytag. Get it looked at or at least call GE that should balance better than that. Make sure you load it with the correct cycle to match the clothing type that may help too. Larger more dense materials require more water so if you select a cycle that doesn't fir what your doing it may not sense correctly that can cause an issue too. Just some thoughts to consider I hope it all works out for you.

    We also bought this same POS model from Home Depot for my mom's house. She died shortly thereafter at 98 years of age. Only her caregiver had lightly used it. It proceeded to sit for the next two years while my sister and I wrangled over the house. I ended up inheriting the machine...since our washer was close to 20 years old and we had an empty nest, we junked our old machine and took on this sorry excuse for a "washer". Hated it from day one. After 6 months of pure dissatisfaction (it already needed a service call for error codes and feels VERY flimsy), we gave it to our housekeeper's nephew with full disclosure of its inadequacies. We bought a brand new Speed Queen TC5003. From the start of our very first load, the sound of the motor and wash action took me back to 1964 and the solid sound of our new Maytag at the time. We are now VERY happy.

    First of all, you may need to level the unit. Should have been leveled at install. Second, I have always washed jeans separately and when I place them in the tub, I always "wrap" them around the tub. Jeans are always so much heavier when wet than shirts, underwear, etc. So, if they're bunched up it can cause a balance issue (even on the older agitator washers). Just my two cents.

Several times after washing a load on casual, the entire load can be picked up by holding up one item. I have to work at getting the items apart. I just bought this washer after sending back a Whirlpool that was a 2 in 1 (agitator and impeller). It was defective. After a cycle my clothes had dry spots. So far this new GE is a little loud, but ok. My only gripe is that washers use to: fill up with water, wash then rise out the detergent; refill again your clothes would wash with fabric softener and then it was rinse clean. Now it only fills up with water once and that's it. Even if you add fabric softener it does not collect water a 2nd time. In my opinion, that not washing clothes. EVERYTHING now a days just SUCKS!!!!!!!

    I just purchased the same model because my 27-year-old 3.2 cu. ft. Maytag was leaking transmission oil, and the dryer was also getting squirrely. I didn't want to be caught without a washer when the Maytag finally died. I was led to believe this 4.2 cu. ft. GE model was old school where you could set the water level manually. My old Maytag hardly ever went out of balance and when it did, it would stop spinning. The new one just keeps spinning at much higher RPMs than the old one (GE brags about how fast it spins) when it's unbalanced, and there is an adventure. You would think you could do larger loads in a 4.2 cu. ft. machine than a 3.2...you can't. Even when the machine spins okay, there is strong vibration, and I'm sure this will have a cumulative effect on the life of the machine. Yeah, it sucks but most machines made today suck. Construction tolerances are sloppier, and corners are cut. The knobs on the dryer feel mushy like they can break off any time.

    I had this EXACT same issue recently. In my case, the clothes would get all balled up, just like in the video, and cause the wildly unbalanced scenario and violently shaking washer. I noticed that the clothes were just slightly damp - and when opening the washer to view the clothes while washing was in-process, THERE WAS NO WATER in the drum. How can this be? During the fill cycle, water was coming out, albeit very slow. I removed the cold-water hose on the washer side and noted the small screen that was in place (presumably to filter sediment) was all gunked up and slightly damaged. I surmised this was the cause of the slow water fill. I removed the screen and tried again. Now the water filled up much stronger/faster, and the drum was actually filled with water during the wash cycle. No issue with clothes getting balled up and causing the unbalanced scenario. Problem solved! 😀

From the comments, I would say, you either like it or hate it :) Maybe it's just 50% are good and 50% were messed up at the factory with a bad chip :) After that video, I got a Maytag, don't think I would ever buy anything else. Cheers

    For starters you don't just throw them all in like that you have to level them out around the agitator so it spins even. My sister and my cousin have had this washer for quite a while and I'm getting mine delivered tomorrow and they love theirs except for the noise but with how good it cleans I wouldn't care I'll shut the laundry room door

    Bought one November 19, had it replaced under warranty right away but that took three weeks. Still banged around but worked until this weekend ,May 20. Still under warranty and have a Tech coming in a week. Tried the reset idea and will see next load. My washer is perfectly level(I am a Millwright), Starrett 98 square with Texas.

    • @mazkact
      @mazkact 4 роки тому +3

      Reset did not work. Finally got a good technician , He spent two hours at my home. Drain hose was too deep in the stand pipe(siphoned), the installers installed it this way both times.. Do not level like the manual shows you, level off the top of the tub. Make sure you have an air gap in the drain stand pipe. Use deep rinse feature and select high water level no matter the load. Washer working again after following technician's advice.

    Its doing exactly what its supposed to do. It is a high efficiency washer, so it doesn’t need as much water as older washers. It “filled up again” because that was the rinse cycle, and you put it on the Deep Fill option! Your washer keeps moving because you don’t have it level! Thats why your clothes keep getting wrapped up around the agitator. I wonder if you read the manual before operating this machine, because everything you complained about is explained clearly there.

    • @TheBsavage
      @TheBsavage 4 роки тому +1

      We got ours just over a year ago and we were happy till today out of nowhere it's banging and walking forward until it almost pulled the hose fittings off the wall.

    I have the same washer and it does exactly the same thing. A tech who came and looked at it said my water pressure was not adequate. I'm on a cistern system with a water pump and the pressure is within spec as specified in the installation requirements. The thing is noisy, never balances the load between the wash and rinse cycle and wants to walk all over the place. The engineers must have been on crack when they let this out of the testing phase. Never buying a GE product again. They'll probably be out of business soon anyway given the financial condition of the company.

      The GE brand was purchased by the Chinese company Haier some years back...known mostly for their cheap mini-fridges in dorm rooms and under desks in offices. Everything they make is the embodiment of cheap Chinese crap. The circuit board that controls this model is a joke...it looks like something you'd find in a child's remote control toy car. I cannot imagine GE washers lasting more than 5-7 aggravating years.

    If anything Mark I got a few hearty laughs during your review, sorry about your purchase but parts of your video are hilarious. I came here to youtube to troubleshoot this model and found your review. Luckily I'm not quite in the same boat as you as my washer seems to be performing a bit more steadily where the loads don't off balance like yours tended to. I just found the operations of this washer to be abysmal; annoyingly loud, inconsistent water level filling within the tub and overall just kind of a piece of junk. Most of the GE appliances I come into contact with these days whether with family or friends just seem to be poorly designed pieces of crap.

  • @ruthpickens6716
    @ruthpickens6716 2 роки тому +1

    I would not recommend purchasing this washer, its the worse ever. I also have the problem with out of balance loads but not all loads. Forget about washing a single item like a bathroom floor mat, it get out of balance. Quilts are terrible. You have very little control over the water level, there's barely enough water for even a Max load of clothes because the washer has an automatic load sensing. The rinse cycle doesn't cover the clothes so how well are they rinsed?

    Just a piece of advice is use to work for GE 1st ypur washer isn't levled or they left the leveing rod in, look down on the left or riggt front side should be a smll hole, leveling rod if not, put the leveler on 4 times once in the back lid down front same side L side the same R side repeat, 2nd water will not go above 2nd hole from the top of the agitator 3 press deep fill, you get a Fallon more press it twice 2 gallons press and hold or press 3 times deep fill, 4th if you put it on Super it will automatically fill to capacity. Your washer isn't leveled or the shipping rod was left inside

I have read where there is an software update.. that you have to purchase which is a joke. Mine is in the habit of not doing a final spin. "Reads an Out of Balance Code" Really! No Kidding! One has to be ready to RUN when it starts spinning cause it WILL chase you out of the room!! Customers need to bring a class action suit against them! If I was the engineer of this machine I wouldn't be able to sleep at night or show my face but apparently these new breed of engineers don't give a flying hoot.
