  • Matthew unboxes a huge installment of parts for swapping a 7.3 Ford Godzilla into a 1988 Mustang and discusses why the parts were selected and how they fit into the engine swap program. Parts included are the Holley oilpan front cover and accessory drive kit, Ultimate headers, MaxxECU engine management system, Brian Tooley Racing Truck Norris camshaft, special tools, and many others. This is a $10000 Canadian dollar parts haul and represents most of the engine upfit components required to get the Godzilla into a Foxbody and get it running.

    Looking forward to this engine swap! Very cool how you’re bringing us along for the ride while you navigate what works and what doesn’t. 😎👌🏻

      It's good to be hot rodding again rather than just restoring some stock stuff!

      I expect to tear into this engine in the coming week for the upfit. There are some scary steps like the torque to yield crank bolt which has as its final step 129 ft-lbs PLUS 150 degrees. It is hard to believe that a 14mm bolt doesn’t snap or pull the threads out of the crank with a spec like that, but everyone I have talked to says that’s right, including the official Ford service manual. I guess I will fire up the 1/2” snap on tech angle and hope it really works!

      We have been waiting on the engine mounting solution hoping that someone will actually produce a commercial solution that will work, and just this week it appears that AJE has released a godzilla swap kit-member that will mount the engine in a Foxbody AND allow installation of a power steering rack, so I have ordered that whole solution - k-member, a-arms, coilovers etc. it’s one less thing to have to design from scratch.

      Thanks! I got the pan and front cover off that engine today, ready for the cam upgrade, GM style oil pump, Holley pan, and Holley front cover and accessory system. Once that prep work is done, I'll get the 5.0 and T5 pulled out of Bad Decision and we can see what physical fitment issues we are going to have.

    Definitely subscribed for this build. I have a 2002 Crustang, and a 1972 F-100. I have considered Godzilla swaps for both!

      I like the idea of the Godzilla. I’ve done every kind of Windsor Ford type of project and Coyote projects so I decided to give this a try. Time will tell if it was a good idea or not. No direct injection makes a difference when it comes to engine control options and engine/transmission control combinations so the Godzilla route gives you more flexibility that way.

    Thank you for making this video. I’ve been looking into doing the same with same accessory drive on my fox body or ‘69 Fastback. Gonna be interesting to see cost and what it will turn out like😃

    Yeah on those headers I was thinking how in the world are two of them going to fit in a foxbody, I had trouble getting the original shortys in lol

    • @tecmotiondyno
      @tecmotiondyno  13 днів тому

      I have similar headers in my 90 coupe but they were custom made for it. 2” primary, 3.5” collector. I used a mini starter and a qa1 tubular k-member with that combo. The custom headers are so nice that you can pull the starter without loosening a single header bolt. Anyway, it turns out that AJE has just released a tubular k-member with Godzilla engine mounts that will handle power steering, so I guess that solves several problems from engine mounting to header fitment. Fingers crossed!

      @ well good luck I like watching ya videos, I’ve commented before I got one like the other red one, that I’ve pieced together, put it all back period correct 93 gt, but having trouble with the notorious idle problem

    • @tecmotiondyno
      @tecmotiondyno  13 днів тому

      I filmed a discussion of how the idle system actually works and the real steps to get it set up right recently so keep an eye out for that when I get the time to edit it.

      @ ok I sure will,I’ve got it down to after it warms up it’s not to bad , ordered a new tps, an iac sensors, going to install them when weather warms up, my check engine codes were showing up they were at fault, so after that, that’s all I know to do, course adjusting them

      There are 2 grades of stainless steel 300 and 400 series, pending formulating the last can be magnetic to a point.

    how much Money you spent on these Parts?

    • @tecmotiondyno
      @tecmotiondyno  11 днів тому

      I thought it said in the video somewhere but this unpack is about $10000 Canadian, and the engine was about $9000 Canadian. That still doesn’t handle suspension, transmission, some of the accessories, gauges, a hood, cooling components and probably a dozen other smaller items. The Canadian dollar is around 70 cents US right now. Make no mistake, this is a big expensive project, however if you price out a 408 Windsor project or Coyote project on one of these cars there is a lot of sticker shock there too these days.
