    The cook on the Titanic
    Was a Fucking Badass 😂 he got drunk
    Walked and slides down the ship while it was sinking
    And survived in the cold water too
    He also helped people dropping things in the water that could float

    Fun fact: One of the people in Lifeboat 14 was a man named Daniel Buckley, who was ordered out with a group of friends by Lightoller, but a first class woman threw her shawl over him so Lightoller didn't know he was male. Daniel Buckley survived the disaster, and later served in the US Army in WW1, where he was killed in the Argonne Offensive.
    Also, Lifeboat 16 had stewardess Violet Jessop on it. She was on the Olympic when it collided with the Hawke in 1911, then she was later on the Britannic when it sunk in 1916. She survived all three incidents

    • @ferrallezz5246

    • @sorrenblitz805
      @sorrenblitz805 3 роки тому +2

      @@ferrallezz5246 so not really. The stern was still buoyant when the breakup happened, yeah the double hull pulled it but it shook that chunk off. Second many of the survivors said that the stern took another 5-7 minutes to actually disappear beneath the surface, and some thought it may just remain afloat. The bow had already lost its buoyancy so it was just gonna plummet down to the seafloor but the stern took longer because of the air pockets, and then it dropped once the implosion happened. That's why the stern looks like a bomb site and the bow still looks okayish besides being separated from the rest of the ship. This is also why the pieces of the double hull found were so far from the rest of the main debris field. Got frisbeed off during the final few moments of the break.

    • @lindapruitt2656
      @lindapruitt2656 3 роки тому +2

      The Carpathia steamed through an ice field at 24-25 knots trying to reach Titanic in time. She was an old ship and they had no idea she could make that kind of speed. They literally dodged icebergs to get there. It must have been nerve wrecking for the crew straining to see the ice so as to avoid Titanic's fate.

    • @FinalLugiaGuardian
      @FinalLugiaGuardian 3 роки тому +1

      @@lindapruitt2656 I thought Carpathia was steaming at 17.5 knots. The ships max speed was designed to be 14 knots.
      Captain Rostron knew the ship's boilers were not rated to handle that much steam pressure, but boilers can be replaced and lives can't.
      But at 17.5 knots, the crew would have had far more time to see an iceberg and react compared to the time Titanic had.

    The story of Titanic still rips my heart to pieces.
    I can only imagine the sheer terror, the fear, the knowing that death was coming and there was no way out must’ve been indescribably horrifying. You gentlemen did a great job with this. I’ve watched the Titanic sink in real time, mostly in total silence. I very much enjoyed listening to the stories you all told as the ship slowly meets its fate. I often think about the people that were never able to get off the ship, the people trapped inside. I try to comprehend what it was like when the lights went out, the screams and cries of the people as the freezing cold, dark water enveloped them and pulled them down. It was pitch dark. They couldn’t see anything. All they could hear was the screeching, shattering and moaning sounds of the ship’s last cry for help as it ultimately succumbed to the ocean...
    The James Cameron movie ‘Titanic’ told the story well, with a bit of fiction mixed in, but no Hollywood movie compares to the real experience of it all. I’ve always felt that the sinking of that ship was the curse of man’s arrogance. They said it was “unsinkable” and them wanting to increase their speed to make headlines ultimately sealed their fate. I’ll always hold a place in my heart for all those unfortunate souls who lost their lives that terrible night. I’m in California, not far from Long Beach and The Queen Mary. As you can see, I’m a few years late, but I hope you make it out this way again. My cousins bring their Grandfather once a year for a tour of Queen Mary because he actually served in the NAVY in WWII and sailed aboard ‘Mary’ during her “Ghost Ship” days. He’s got some great stories! Thank you ever so for the hard work you’ve put into sharing the story of Titanic.

    I remember around the time that the 97 movie Titanic was about to be released I was up late one night and I caught the 1958 version about Titanic called A night to remember and being really young at the time I felt really sad and horrified about what happened on the ship. A few weeks later I went with 5 girlfriends from school to see Titanic and they were all crying over Leonardo Dicaprio drowning and I'm sitting there stone faced and just hoping that the movie would just end already. I remember some teenage boys cheering when Leo drowned lol..Anyway point is that the 1958 movie got to me way more than the 97 one. It is very ironic that the Olympic, which was the guinea pig for improvements for Titanic and Britannic, outlived both of them. It hit two ships during its service and remained afloat while the Titanic sank on its first voyage. During WWI, it was made a troop transport ship (a legitimate target), a far dangerous assignment than Britannic, which was a hospital ship (so protected). Yet Britannic hit a mine and sank while Olympic survived (and even destroyed a German U-boat). It was the only Olympic-class ship to bring profits and good publicity (Olympic was called old reliable) to the White Star Line while the other two were only money-loss (and in the case of the Titanic, almost a killer-company). It is a pity it was scrapped. They should have kept it for history purpose (regarding Titanic) and for its service in the navy during WWI.

      Luna Deafenhine: That is right. Only 6 compartments were open after the explosion, the limit of the Britannic. The Britannic would have stabilized itself. That is why Captain Bartlett is unfairly criticized for trying to beach the ship. He didn't know for the open portholes and his effort would have worked if the portholes had been closed. Yet, he is seen as a fool (and blamed for the lifeboats ripped by the turbines while they were launched without his permission).

      Fusilli Jerry maybe I went a little overboard with that statement. (Pun intended) In terms of size, yes the titanic is pretty small compared to today’s cruise ships. But in terms of luxury and class, I personally don’t think any modern day cruise ship will beat the Titanic or Olympic. However, that is just my opinion. The titanic was actually very well built, despite what some myths say. Titanic and her sister ship Olympic both had more class than any other ship I’ve seen today.

    Captain Edward "EJ" Smith

    • @sorrenblitz805
      @sorrenblitz805 3 роки тому +1

      Yes and then something beyond his conception happened to the Titanic. He was Captain on Olympic and knew how tough those ships were. He couldn't imagine anything happening to the ship that would sink it. That's him having confidence in his Ship. Would it have been better if he was a little wimpy kid about it? "Oh I surely do hope nothing awful happens we'd surely be in a big pickle." No captain would be such a wuss, at least not till the Oceanos.

      @@sorrenblitz805
      Agree... but when you factor in that even now, over a 100 years later, you would never hear a captain of any ship ever say something like that, you have to believe Captain Smith was a bit ignorant and naively overconfident... That statement wasn't true then... isn't true now... and won't be true in the future... In general I believe there was an extreme overconfidence in mankind's newfound abilities to make things in the latter years of the industrial revolution that made many Titanic crew members, including Smith, believe the ship was unsinkable, or at the very least could serve as it's own life boat.
      The words "God himself could not sink this ship" was uttered to passengers by crew members and was put into record during the inquiry.
      I say this only to point out two things:
      One, hubris is never good if you're a captain of a ship, airplane, bus... basically anything that moves and carries people... And two, I don't agree with the video's commentators when they say that that belief was not the prevailing belief... it was.

    • @sorrenblitz805
      @sorrenblitz805 3 роки тому

      @@Paolo-sw8ys I don't know how much stock I put into some of that "God can't sink it" stuff. If the crew members said to people bad on them that's dumb but I don't think it's overconfidence on the Captain's part. He knew how tough the Olympic Class design was and expected Titanic to be the same and it was but Olympic never sustained the kinda damage that Titanic did. He never said "I know for a fact this ship can't sink" he said "I can conceive of no disaster that could sink this ship." He was confident but understood and implied that the inconceivable is a factor. I'm not gonna go into crew members most of them are just company sailors trying to make a buck honestly can't blame them for trying to keep the sale's pitch going.

      But again, when you factor in that that famous quote by Captain Smith was uttered years before and about a ship nowhere near the revolutionary size or technologically advanced as an Olympic class ship (I believe he was referring to the RMS Adriatic) you see a man reflective of the majority opinion of the day, and that is that in the latter half of the industrial revolution most people began to believe in the infallibility of ship building.

    We got the real time sinking of both Titanic and Britannic. I'm just wondering, are we going to see a real time sinking of the Luisitania by any chance?

      I'd be interested in seeing survival scenarios for really any ship sinking. I'd be lying if I didn't admit I'm hoping this game they're making is like a nice story game then boom survival horror game. Different scenarios, Crew member, passenger, it'd be cool to have different scenarios depending on what kind of passenger you are first second or third class, if you're a crew member are you an engineer, steward, deckhand, officer, and then have a nice night right up until 11:39 then it switches to frantic mystery then devolves into panicked horror game.

    Incredible job - your narrative immediately after the sinking brought tears to my eyes. Your entire teams attention to detail is breath-taking. We've 'pre-booked' our passage and can't wait for the final release. At least once I want to stand on the bow as it goes under. That will freak me out, but want to experience once. And through your efforts, I will be able to ! !

    It would be amazing if in the game, while you were on the deck or something in the background, some of the NPCs were playing out these stories. For example, maybe if you were on the deck, there could be a guy, like they mentioned, trying to strap some deck chairs together as a raft. To see all these little pieces of history in the background or something would be awesome

      Perhaps they slowed it to sync it with the actual time on the clock so it would be 2:20 in real time and 2:20 in the vid or maybe they slowed it so they could have more time to explain a couple of more details before she was completely gone, was also wondering about this myself.

      To be fair, there's an extended sequence at the start showing the ship cruising along peacefully for much longer than the real-time video, too. They've obviously edited it to make it work better with the live stream.
