Great video, Terry. One thing I would say about the shutter close setting is that it is far more likely that you'll damage the shutter than the sensor if you accidentally stick a finger in the mount hole or whatever. Thus, I'd actually recommend leaving the shutter close setting turned off. Sensors are built pretty tough. Shutters break pretty easily.

Great video...I'm just moving from Panasonic ecosystem. Watched your video 7 or 8 times with constant stop and start. I have a talking head, two camera shoot in two days. Thought about falling back to the Gh5s but gonna push forward.
Welcome to the Sony gang haha. It’s beautiful here. Some trade offs but things like autofocus, lens selection, etc, make the Sony space totally worth it!

Terry, awesome video. I just picked up the A7iv and I was trying to do some astro. On photo, in Manual, with Sony GM 24mm 1.4, I can't get my shutter speed below 1/50. Can't figure out why. Hopefully you can help a brother. Thanks, Gary
Do you have the switch set to to photo, and in M mode? Did you do the menu change to separate your settings?
@@TerryWarfield I did all of that. I ended up doing a settings reset and it works now. I got some sick star pics. Thanks for getting back to me. I told you before, but I’ll say it again. I followed along and set up 1 - 3 as you suggested. Do you have a photo mode set up ?
Does anyone else have this White Balance Issue? -- When I set my custom dial number 1 to 'auto white balance" (as Terry does)...when i then later flick to number 1 on the dial, the camera won't let me "set" the white balance with a grey card. Great video Terry.
Yeah, this is a real thing for me. My white balance can't be changed once in any of the 1,2,3 custom dial settings. That makes these settings a bit useless for me as i want to set my white balance for every new lighting situation. errr annoying..

Can you record 4k/24 fps on “ Auto “ mode?
Incredibly informative and I appreciate the effort you put into this. Two questions - if you are not shooting in video mode can you still program the memory buttons 1, 2, and 3 for still photos, or does this have to be done under the M1, M2, M3, or M4 programs? Second question - have you considered saving these settings to your website so others can download them to a memory card and import to their cameras? I saw another photographer do that for his Sony camera and it totally blew me away. Thanks again, now Subscribing.

I may be switching to Sony from Panasonic. Does the A7iv have dual native ISO? If so what are the ISO numbers? Thanks
Yes it does. In slog3 second stage kicks in at iso3200
One huge catch .. it doesn’t hv IBIS and also the video autofocus is not as good as R5

Hey Terry, have you used the shutter variable feature much? If so, when you are shooting 60p and have your shutter set to 125, cant you use the shutter variable to bring it down to exactly 120 so it is at 180* shutter angle. Or is there compromises when using the shutter variable feature? all I know its main purpose is to help avoid flickering issues

ISO 125 is the lowest the camera can go when P11 is on… huh, that’s interesting.
That’s every Sony camera with cine tone. 125 is the base
