This seems to pretty much be an issue in only the majority white western world (but of course not just "white" perpetrators). This isn't nearly as bad in Latin America, eastern Europe, western or eastern Asia, not even the continent of Africa. Yeah, as an Indo (Dutch+/Indonesian) I only really see white people selling Indonesian food (like sateh) as sus (because 9 out of 10 times it tastes like doodoo), but I don't sit around like they can't touch it. Calling white people belanda is usually for them being themselves (slices of baguette instead of lontong with their sateh or their low spicy tolerance), but it's meant as a joke and not to put them down lol. We love spreading our culture through cooking classes, or the dance classes on the islands and photoshoots in traditional clothing. Woke morons need to stop telling us to feel offended over literally everything. We're adults, we're quite capable of deciding what we want to share, when we want to share it, with whom we want to share it, and how we want to share it.

That girl dances better than me and she did an AMAZING job, proud of her and her hard work❤❤ I'd love to see more people appreciate cultures this way, she definitely worked hard to achieve her moves :)

I am white, a friend I had in Seattle is black. We participated in the Chinese new year celebration including the dance. The Chinese welcomed everyone and taught the dance. Great to learn about different cultures.
The only thing that would make this video better would be if this girl had friends who were black and Hispanic and they were all learning and performing the dance together.

First of all, the facial expressions are 100% accurate. She was doing the exact same facial expressions that need to be done during this dance. I’m Filipino and we have a ton of traditional dances in the Philippines. If I see any foreigner dancing tinikling with great accuracy and facial expressions, I will pay personally embrace that foreigner and say that they’re honorary Filipino now. I was present on Twitter when this discourse started, and the saddest thing was all the people actually making fun of the dance, and all the Balinese people having to say “no, she’s doing it right”. It was so hurtful to the people the dance came from; people just making fun of the culture at that point.

Balinese here, we love it when foreigner shows interest in our culture. We take pride in teaching our heritage and traditions, the dances, the cooking, invite them to ceremonies, we have temples that allows non hindu (hindu is Bali's main religion) to get married in real and complete Balinese wedding. Cultures are meant to be experienced and shared. That's how we appreciate it.
I thought her dance was incredibly accurate upon watching it initially. I HAVE seen this dance before. My mother was in Bali & recorded traditional dancers & it was very beautiful. This young girl has got it down pat. She is doing this dance beautifully & perfectly.

A mother signed up her 2 black daughters that thought it looked fun and they liked the dresses and hair styles. Everyone said, "welcome!" It does look very difficult & like one would need much practice to be skilled at the dance. This young lady , has obviously practiced many hours.

I am white, a friend I had in Seattle is black. We participated in the Chinese new year celebration including the dance. The Chinese welcomed everyone and taught the dance. Great to learn about different cultures.

I was present on Twitter when this discourse started, and the saddest thing was all the people actually making fun of the dance, and all the Balinese people having to say “no, she’s doing it right”. It was so hurtful to the people the dance came from; people just making fun of the culture at that point.
Dang, they know nothing at all. There are so many movies and documentaries demonstrating similar cultural dances especially when they are imitating their gods or animals in the dance.
I'm not Balinese, but I have visited there a couple of times and seen this style of dance a few times, she is doing it correctly. She obviously wants to learn it and be apart of their culture (which is beautiful btw) She's not doing it to make fun of it.

As a kid I lived in Oman (I'm Scottish,) and at the military tattoo in Muscat I think it was there was a whole pipe band of Omani soldiers in tartan playing the bagpipes. They get invited to Edinburgh tattoo to perform too, and the Highland Games. The sultan studied at St Andrews, stayed with a Scottish family and fell in love with Scotland and created the pipe band on his return!

Balinese here, we love it when foreigner shows interest in our culture. We take pride in teaching our heritage and traditions, the dances, the cooking, invite them to ceremonies, we have temples that allows non hindu (hindu is Bali's main religion) to get married in real and complete Balinese wedding. Cultures are meant to be experienced and shared. That's how we appreciate it.

I thought her dance was incredibly accurate upon watching it initially. I HAVE seen this dance before. My mother was in Bali & recorded traditional dancers & it was very beautiful. This young girl has got it down pat. She is doing this dance beautifully & perfectly.

My friend did Irish dance growing up. We lived in Chicago. A mother signed up her 2 black daughters that thought it looked fun and they liked the dresses and hair styles. Everyone said, "welcome!" The girls were not Irish, but that doesn't mean they can't explore something new and have an appreciation for something beautiful and fun. They made lots of new friends in the process too.
I say we start a campaign: Be More Celtic. Make it a direct answer to the left's "be less white" campaign. The Celts are the ones who popularized the idea of cultural appreciation. And the Celts are, by definition, WHITE. Yet the Celts have, ever since St. Patrick's time (and he was Celtic himself), invited anyone and everyone to appreciate and join their culture, regardless of bloodline. Celtic culture has come to be one of the defining characteristics of Western culture. The Christianized Celts basically invented the West. Be More Celtic.
