I Made a COLOR CHANGING Dress for the Met Gala! Actual Magic!

- This was by FAR the hardest thing I’ve had to create. Everything was hard from the amount of cutting, the dye being sensitive to light, and in the middle of this project, my cat passed away, which is why you’ll see little cats in the motif. It was our way of honoring her❤️ I adore the way this dress came out and I’m just thankful to be able to create and explore new ideas. This one is dedicated to my sweet Cat, Beebs.

If you see the cats in the design, it’s because my sweet 11 year old kitty passed away during the week we were making this dress. I was so upset , but had to finish this project( it was a good distraction.) so I though it would be sweet to put her into the design to honor her and all the time and dresses she got to see me make. Also, all of the flowers on the base dress were from the flower arrangements friends and family who loved her sent ! So the whole dress is a tribute to her

I think this is the coolest thing I have ever seen!!! This idea of color changing fabric and the cricket stencil tool Officialhambly used to make some of her pieces. I love the finished gown with that train!💘

This is not only a unique dress and worthy of being showcased at the Met, the special meaning brought into the design couldn’t be more loving and special when one takes the time to study the design that became a tribute to a special being. I love the dress even more bc of the story involved in it’s creation.

You understood the assignment! I was so confused by a lot of the gala designs this year...many of them were beautiful, but didn't really capture a thoughtful expression of the theme. The fact that you included your cat in this design is both so precious and is on point with the sleeping beauty theme. 🥹

TYLA'S dress, Anok Yai's jumpsuit, Wisdom Kaye's outfit, HARRIS REED would eat this dress, no offense. Elle fanning slayed(I mean it was sleeping beauty's awakening fashion and she is sleeping beauty. She is the theme). Mindi Kayling, as much as I don't like her, ate as well. Don't exaggerate. It gives room for people to diminish the work that you are complementing. Also, don't compliment people by pulling others down especially when you're exaggerating. A lot of the MET looks were meh, let's be real, but there were many amazing looks.

@@sherei9530 Fr. 😬 And none of them really seemed to match the theme -- either of them, as there seems to be a debate on whether it was "Garden of Time", or "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" -- except for the seemingly random flower appliques here and there.
The closest that I saw were Demi Moore, Lana Del Ray and, shockingly, Tyla -- the latter of whom at least got the "Time" motif right, but emulated "Sands of Time" instead (if we're going with "Garden of Time"). Cara Delevingne, who normally is closer to the theme, was more like the theme of several years back, with her very "Joan of Arc" outfit. And Michael Shannon was just carrying around a bag of designer POTATO CHIPS, by Balenciaga. Like, some were just so off the wall.
There were definitely some gorgeous ensembles, but the theme just wasn't there. I think the designer who came closest to the theme was probably Harris Reed (dressed themselves and Demi).
How about we rename this Met Gala what we're all thinking, though, and really hit the nail on the head?
"Hunger Games Awakened: The Capitol".
(Oh Blake Lively, Queen of the Red Carpet, where were you when we needed you?)
All of that being said, THIS dress, this GORGEOUS, color-changing creation, belongs on the Met Gala steps far more than any other outfit that made it there this year.
@@glPerfectDaygarden of time was the dress code for the carpet and sleeping beauties is the exhibit. I thought a good handful of people actually did well with the theme. The exhibit is about fashion that has degraded or is too fragile to be worn. The garments are “the sleeping beauties”. I feel like many people took the “garden” aspect a little too literall.
This SHOULD have been at the Met Gala. Nothing that was there could match this. ❤️

This dress is such a sweet memorial to your kitty. Even the color change symbolizes how the years change us all; the green illustrates our journey on this (green) Earth, then turning into our peaceful eternity in (blue, sky) Heaven.
I’m so sorry for your kitty’s passing. It sounds like you were able to use the dress as a bit of a distraction. Perhaps making the dress with so many tributes to her was even a bit cathartic for you and has hopefully helped with the healing process. All of the hidden meanings on the dress make it that much more beautiful.

This would've fit the theme so well!!! Even better than some of the dress designs i saw on the carpet! The dye idea and using UV rays like flowers just took this dress to such a high level in relation to the theme. Stunning!

The English Cotton is much better and you can incorporate the design on to the English Cotton. Tulle is just not forgiving with designs. The Umbrella being a wonderful Accessory! This is the best dress I’ve seen you make for so many reasons- the color changing dye, the tribute to your sweet kitty, and, of course your tremendous skill!
My mom was a lifelong seamstress, she sewed for a living in our small CT town until she couldn’t any longer, at 75. I watch you because I never picked up the craft and your love of sewing reminds me of my mom’s same appreciation for taking a few yards of material and creating something that made others so happy. She loved the challenge and she loved the smiles on her customers faces.

I love that you used a uv color changing dye to transform the gown and the patterns reminiscent of vintage porcelain dishes. So fitting for the theme. This is jaw-dropping! My beloved kitty passed away last year. Months later, I still didn't think I was ready for another cat, but a kitten at the shelter where I volunteer clung to me and would not let go. I brought him home and named him Indigo, after the RM album Indigo, because that was the only music that seemed to calm down his tiny kitten mews... And that album's artwork is almost entirely cyanotype! The existence of this dress and its backstory has floored me, beyond the beauty and craftsmanship. Thank you for sharing your work!
