Serpentine belt replacement on Ford Fusion

Tools needed: Socket wrench, 15mm socket, 7mm socket, pliers, flat screw drivers, cheater bar.

Thanks, very helpful. BTW I found that a 12 in crescent wrench worked for holding the tensioning pulley in the loosen/remove belt position.

I was able to do the belt change with only taking 4 of the push pins out and bending it out of the way. It helps to have a second person when routing the belt. I used a Napa belt and the belt just wouldn't go on at all. Had to remove the top idler pulley and reinstall it with the belt on and tensioner being held in place. It's the exact same size, but there's almost no groove on the Napa Premium belts so it's effectively a smaller belt when new.

I tried replacing my tensioner and I could not get that belt on to save my life so I put the old one on and that made all the difference. The new one seemed slightly different but just enough. I also think that the engineers should make it so that when you open that tensioner the belt should go on rather freely and not have to fight the hell out of it. I had to get my on up top at the power steering pulley. Oh well it's done and the car is running sweet.

I just looked at the diagram ran the belts but left the belt off the ilder tensioner pulley until i put the socket on it to pull it back and slide the belt on was pretty easy once you figure the diagram out

For anyone working on the fusion hybrid, it is similar. Need to remove front passenger wheel, but only need to remove the first 4 plastic connectors shown in this video and simply push the plastic panel to the side. The belt for the hybrid only runs the water pump and has a tensioner. The tensioner is easy access from the engine bay (I used a breaker bar with 15mm socket to loosen the tension). The manual states this should be replaced at 150k miles. I have 183k miles and belt still looks in good condition but changed anyways. RockAuto will tell you what part number is needed and can also shop around on amazon... etc.
