    Update! At 4:51 I said to use 1 1/4" long screws into the studs, but it should be a screw at least 1 3/4" long or 2" long.

      Not a “ this is how I would do it” just a tip but you got it’ 🙂
      If bracket board is 3/4” add drywall usually 5/8 but could be 1/2” so you need 1 1/2” just to get to the stud then u want an inch in the stud
      So 2 1/2” to 2 3/4” screws would be perfect
      If your bracket boards are 1/2”
      Use 2” screw hope that helps someone out 😊

    If you remove the pins first, the holes are much smaller. The pin expands drywall anchors.

    Thanks for posting this video....followed your directions and just finished the shelves in our pantry closet...looks great! Few lessons learned on my side....my walls were not square...had to cut the shelves longer in the front by 1". One side wall had no studs...had to use wall anchors. My pantry was fairly deep so I used pre-glued project boards...think I got them at Lowes. The dark shelves make the closet dark...looking at putting in some lights.....

    Did you have trouble nailing the top shelf or was there enough clearance? I was just measuring out my ideas for shelf gaps and realize that I might not have enough clearance for a smaller gap between shelves when I get towards the top. Maybe I can rearrange the smaller gap towards the middle to overcome.

    • @AngelaMarieMade
      @AngelaMarieMade  3 роки тому +1

      We had plenty of clearance above our top shelf. I think you have the right idea with adjusting the middle measurements to make sure you have enough space at the top.

    Question. Would I be able to add the white trim to the top of the shelf vs the bottom (as you’ve done in your video) that way I can have a “lip” on the end of the shelf and it can somewhat stop stuff from falling over?

    • @AngelaMarieMade
      @AngelaMarieMade  3 роки тому

      Thank you so much!!! I'm so glad it's helpful and easy to follow! You can definitely do the white trim on the top for a "lip". That's a great idea! I would just do the nails from the underneath side instead. Also, if you want a shorter lip than a 1x2 (which is 1.5"), you could use square dowels which come in multiple sizes (like 3/4" or 1").

    Is using a circular saw will give me a straight edge or should I use a miter saw?

    • @AngelaMarieMade
      @AngelaMarieMade  4 роки тому +1

      If you use the circular saw with a straight edge guide then it will be a perfect straight edge cut. You can use a miter saw too for a straight edge cut as long as the miter saw can cut the width of the board you need. For example, my 1x12 boards would have needed to be cut with a sliding miter saw in order to make a wide enough cut.

    It's a decent idea, but I'm curious to see how this holds up over time. I feel like lag bolts would have been a significantly better choice than deck screws to bear the weight this will undoubtedly end up holding, especially the portions attached to the ceiling. It also seems like the amount of potential load being applied to the ceiling is more than what the engineering of these shelves will ultimately hold over time. I'm certainly not an engineer or expert on the matter, but it doesn't completely pass the eye test for me. 5:53

      It has been holding up great and is very sturdy. There isn't anything attached to the ceiling...

      99% of closets have the same or less support for a much longer shelf. It is more than enough support. You could easily sit on these shelves.

    Save yourself time, find the studs first, mark the so when the support wood goes up you can see the stud marks and put your screws in. No sense doing twice the work here

    This makes no sense to me. If you had left the anchors in you could have simply used them to screw the new supports in. No you have multiple steps for no reason

      It looks like she wanted them in the studs instead of the drywall, which would probably be a little more secure than having drywall anchors.

    Not judging, but I think constantly trying to smile while talking (a uniquely American affect) detracts from one's clarity of speech. I call it SororitySpeak.

    There was nothing wrong with your pantry. Your organisational skills need to be honed though ☺
