The first half of the ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx3ICSK6nSknaL_45CU2NmFSoXjarGMDiJ book is everything about wood: types, tools, finishes, setting up shop etc. The second half is all about doing projects for inside and outside of the home. I just want to say THANK YOU for such a thorough but easy way of explaining how to do this. I've been looking around and watching videos on this and yours by far was the best. I finally completed my closet pantry diy thanks to you.
I have 4 daughters and their work is amazing. Watch out guys , If girls ever start building, they are perfectionists by nature and the job is always done professionally and thought out. Thank you Lord for blessing me with Alpha Daughters.
I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your channel!!! Thank you very much for sharing. I’m moving to a new home back in Florida next month and I can’t wait to get busy building my new online office office and shipping and storage rooms using so many of your plans!!! Have a great day and live a safe and happy life!!! Sincerely, William Gallaher Finally I’m moving back to Sun and Sand, I’m so excited it’s been 17 years.
Thank you so much! I pulled down the old wire shelves and these new wood shelves made a world of difference. The used the 2 1/2 cabinet screws for both the mounts and attaching the shelves. They made a big difference. I should have be more mindful of picking up straighter boards from Home Depot, but all in all, an amazing transformation.
Thank you for this video. I've seen some diy shelving for a pantry and thus far this is the most simple, direct I've seen. I've been thinking about changing the wire shelving in my pantry and now I'm sure I will be tackling it once I get all the materials. Thank you again.
Great idea. Just what I needed. I love Alaska, been there three times. Thanks. You could also put two screws in each stud to give it just a little more weight bearing. Great idea using the 12 inch shelf board, it holds more weight than particle board and particle board tends to bend more. Recommend sanding boards before installing them.
I just used your closet/pantry design and made an amazing pantry. I used two 2x10s for the back shelves and 2x12 lumber for the side shelves. I even used the same cabinet screws. I also tied in the corner of the side shelves to the back shelves w the angled screw idea. Wife loves the pantry. Thank you again. Bad Lou Manchester, Vermont
I just found your channel and I'm SO inspired and excited to try some of your tutorials! my coat closet needs to be turned into a pantry, so this is happening! It's so refreshing to find a woman woodworker with a youtube channel! Thank you! Can't wait to try other things, too!
I've done very similar shelves for my pantry couple of months ago. I was so proud to have done it by my self! I use my dad saw mill wood. so rough wood and glide and sand it down . That the best way to make pantry efficient
I screenshot a few bits of this as I've a space to become a larder, I know what I want, it's not always easy to explain to someone else. I've only got 2 sides to do at present, as this is exactly my vision, I will show this to the Joiner. Once all the clutter is out I can get a larger freezer on one side and shelving on the other. My kitchen is 6'x14' the larder is to the left going inyo the kitchen. I can't afford 'barn' doors, but hope Joiner will adapt off the shelf doors to suit. Part of the larder was a useless place below the stairs. A wall built in middle of space houses my washing machine and tumble dryer. If the Joiner who did that had listened, I wouldn't now have to pay more money to push appliances back to the wall with a couple of shelves above. The ladder I will need to reach these will slot alongside the machines. Being 4'10" I definitely need a ladder or safe step. So thank you for showing my vision exactly so I can have my Larder done as I want, not as they think it should be. I'm only a woman grrrr they don't listen. They will this time as I've a very tight budget as money has been wasted in the past when I have not been listened to, I sold jewellery to pay for it and the work left undone by a Builder who was paid up front, there was a reason behind that, but he let me down badly. It will be done, properly or else Ana, you'll get an invite to Northern Ireland to stay with me and show them how it's done. Unfortunately during the debacle I was going through difficult divorce, unhappy children, health issues, working 12+ hrs a day. Two more diagnosed, one only last Thursday, which are really lousy. Hey, it could be much worse, if I can't clean floors etc, I take my glasses off! As long as I'm clean, food prep and fridge are clean, fresh bed. I will continue. I've 4 sons, not the most helpful, no point worrying, I've got to try to get healthier. No cure, but 3 ops can help bits of me. So if you get an international number come up on your phone, answer 😉
This is just an awesome project that I will be looking to do myself. Now you are giving me the guide tools and most importantly the courage to jump and make it a reality. Thank you ❤
Hi Ana - a project idea for the future: a toe-kick pull-out pop-up/folding kitchen step stool. I have a VERY small kitchen, and just need one step up to reach my top cabinet shelves.
That's the same way my grandparents did there selves in the 1970's. Did you look inside my house? Lol.... I'm sure your sister is grateful. Chris from Missouri
Ms White I replicated your methodology of pantry build on one of my projects and it came out looking and functioning really good so thanks for the inspiration
Hi Ana, Thank you very much again for sharing your practical and do-able solutions. Loved the cameo from the dog and the pictures of the landscape. Extra bonus.
Nice work! I essentially built my kitchen and utility room wall cabinets as shelves then added face frame and doors. An advantage is that items behind the stiles can be reached from either side.. I also built them all the way to the ceiling giving more interior space.
OH....am going to do this in my sunroom!!! Awesome and thank you so much!! Will paint them with a whitewash, keep all my yard stuff and planting jars there 👍🏻And your last video with the cool side table is next, but gonna need help with that one 🤦♀️👍🏻🤪 Thanks so much again! Sure do miss Anchorage 😔
Hi. Thanks. You inspire me to build my kitchen selves. I'm in Patagonia and is a lonely place . so i have to build it or live whiteout it. Hugs. R u ok? Look sad.
Thanks for thinking of me! Doing good, just exhausted from travel and lack of sleep with a baby. Things are getting better and I appreciate your thoughtfulness.
Thank you for this. I'm building out a shed-to-cabin, and I simply could not wrap my head around how to put in my shelving (doing very unconventional build out) so I like your idea.
Really great of you to share that project. Doing this in my pantry now and you made me feel really confident about what I am doing now. Thanks again...
So I know I'm supposed to pay attention to Ana when she's measuring the wall, but her sister's dog is rather awesome! Okay, I'm paying attention now, but still, that dog is great. Otherwise, I need those shelves for a re-do of my younger son's closet. Thanks for this how-to.
Ms. Ana White, words can't begin to described what an amazing Lady you truly are. If you were my girl, I'd run home to you! You beat out 95% of guys who don't even know how to hold a screw drive, but can play video games all day long. Your parents must be so proud of you. A fantasy scenario after running home to you: "Oh wow baby, you just added another car space to our garage, & now you're gonna build me a Work-Out Room! Hell yeah my Love!"
Us women are so much better at woodworking than men are...you are terrific for sharing this and it makes perfect sense...I was going to miter the corners but I don't think that is necessary after seeing your shelf. I am going to start on this right away
Wow, this gives me a solution to a closet with a sagging problem; the company that installed the closet did a horrible job that I need to fix before we can sell the house. I'll screw in a piece of wood in the front. Thanks for this great tutorial!
Thank you for this. I have an rv with these awkward closets next to the bed. 😝 Ive been thinking hanging shelves would make them much more mariekono ready. Watching your video showed me what i need to think about...how to hang them so they dont pull out if the top!! Seems basic, but i would have made them and not thought about it beforehand if i hadnt watched you. So, thank you. Ill go out and poke around and see whatwill work before i desing them now. 5:26
Would you ever do a video on how to build scaffolding? I need to paint my house and it's on a slope. The only scaffolding I can rent is for even surfaces. I love your videos because you make things look possible and I can't afford much so doing things myself is a must! Thank you!
For extra support under the shelves, instead of a vertical strip like you showed, could a triangle shaped support underneath the middle of the board attached to the wall have also worked?
My longest shelf is 80 inches. While the furring strips are good, I still need more sturdiness. What brackets can I use since the furring strips won’t allow any regular brackets to sit flush against the wall? Thanks :)
The entire space could be used instead. Then use large clear container bins for easy reach and organizer as it function as a drawer. Good job though. Just saying how I did mine to triple the shelving area. I would have done it like the video if I didn't need more shelving area. It looks better her way.
This is amazing! I’m not sure if you’ll see this comment but I’m hoping you do because I need your advice! I am woodworking for the first time and building a pantry in a 3x4 space…I’m having the shelves on the right and back wall and leaving the left wall open. The problem is there is no space on the side of the door to support the shelves at the farthest end on the right wall (like in the spot where you added the small supports..hope that makes sense). It’s just the door frame, a couple inches, and then meets the right wall. How can I make sure that shelf is supported on the end? Would you recommend metal L bracket supports?
I love how easy you make it. Thank you so much. I want to put these up in my pantry. My length of my walls are about half of your back wall. I can’t really put a center support board in. Do you think I need one? Also I don’t think the shelves will be as deep. I really appreciate all your ideas. Thanks. Take care ❤️
My pantry is very small about 3 feet wide and only a foot and a half deep. Are the 1x3’s enough to support the weight of canned food and items like that? The only thing I don’t know about is how much it can hold without sagging?
Do you recall what size that pantry was? I am looking at making one 26 x 66 with a 32-36 inch double door toward the left side. The right side would have shelves that would be about 16-18 inches deep. Do you think that would be functional? I am trying to put the "pantry" on the end of a run of cabinets. Ran out of cabinets and thought a pantry could fill the remaining space. ??
Hey Ana. I've watched a ton of videos for pantry shelves just like this one specifically. Do you use a pocket hole jig sometimes? What are your thoughts on them? Just asking because of how you connected the corners of the long and short shelves with the screw.
That’s a good point! She just wanted narrow shelving so everything is visible, and with the size of the pantry, had the luxury of not having to maximize storage space.
My parents have a deep pantry, and everything just gets lost in there. Expired items from 2006, LOL. I really like your sister's shelves, because everything is visible.
@@AnaWhiteDIY I'd probably go at least arms depth. I'm trying to decide if I should build a walk in pantry or do something like this. I suppose putting in rows of pull out pantry shelving would also work for full access and no unused space.
