Thanks for doing this review, Metabo HPT doesn't get very much coverage, and I rhink they are a worthy contender to Dewalt/Mileaukee/Makita. Just solid tools at a great price. I moved to Metabo HPT for my "construction" tools - deck building etc. they are fantastic. I think HPT's MultiVolt approach (18/36 compatibility back to 18v) and corded adapter are really innovative. The tools deliver great value, and there's often battery promotions for them. Ergonomics are excellent, right up there with Festool and Makita. Really happy to be in the brand. I have corded Festool in my shop, and agree with your assessment on the precison, fit and dinish for Festool.
Metabo! What a name to my ears... the old traditional company is located in my small German hometown. It's name is derived from two German words: "Metall" and "Bohrer" (drill) They have a cool support building, where you can come by and get spare parts or repairs /inspections. Very swabian mentality 😊

Yeah i'm surprised more brands dont have this feature. Imagine having this option compatible with a full lineup of a brand that does shop + gardening tools. an example: I like having a battery powered chainsaw but when I want to cut a large amount of lumber delivered near my shop, id just pop in the AC adapter and keep using that one tool instead of having another saw which is corded or gas powered for bigger workload.

This is the first Metabo I have ever seen you review. I've been on this platform since college when they were called Hitachi. I hope you do more of them.
Hitachi is now Hikoki. Hikoki and Metabo develope machines togeter but are different brands. I know this for sure because i work for Metabo Netherlands
Now check out the 1/2" Metabo HPT plunge router I've been asking you to review for yrs It was the first on the mkt and still the best router in my shop and jobsite
I have the Metabo 7¼ inch circular saw with the 18/36v and it's awesome. I didn't buy the corded adapter as it was an added expense but I couldn't justify at the time.
I haven't used the Matebo tools. However, I own and have used the Hitachi tools hard for years as a carpenter. They work great and have been indestructible.
Picked up the Milwaukee track saw and Wen tracks (kit: 2x 55") and love it. One of my best tools. Good to know there is a less expensive, but on-par quality, option.
I am a long time Makita fan, and since that is the battery platform I've been using for years, all my cordless tools are Makita. I do have a Metabo corded miter saw, and it has been a hell of a good tool. But that battery/plug-in adapter is a great idea and might push me to add this tracksaw and other Metabo cordless tools to my shop. Thanks for reviewing this, Matt!
Been waiting for you to discover this track saw and their AC adapter. Metabo HPT has been ahead of the game on a lot of things. Took the big 3, 2+ years to release a 2.25hp battery plunge router that Metabo HPT has had out forever. Oh and that’s a 36v saw. I like my Milwaukee saw a lot but the depth indications on that Metabo, especially the blade change marks look more useful. Sometimes I forget what is the track line and the non-track line on the Milwaukee. Just like their manuals, Milwaukee isn't big on writing stuff out.
That AC adapter is cool. I’ve often wondered why more brands don’t make those. Each brand I have tools for would probably make instant sales from me. Dewalt used to have an adapter for their original flexvolt miter saw, but it only worked on that tool as far as I know, because it took two batteries to run that saw. Milwaukee and Ryobi just put the ability to use a cord and certain tools. I have an m18 rocket light that can be run from a battery or a cord, and I have a few Ryobi tools and work lights that can be run on either. I would much prefer the adapter though, that way I could use it with any tool.

Nice review, note for "power tech" tracks, I have a set with my Dewalt track saw and bought a TSO track square, the TSO track square will not work with power tech tracks. The TSO square will not tighten up to the power tech track groove.
Excellent review, thanks for checking it out. i may have to pull the trigger on it, I love my Metabo HPT stuff. It's surprising they don't get more love, because they make some good stuff.
Well, industry for very long time has used resistors for just that. Most if not all on CNC machines use resistors to deaccelerate spindles the grid doesn't have to suck in the energy. It's not there isn't way (battery) for doing that, they for some reason didn't implement it. Probably because the ac adapter should work with more tools than just this saw and this would make it more complex. Dewalt for example has electric brake on DWE575SB $150 corded circular saw, so it's not even the tool has to be extremely pricey for the technology.
@@koitk It's not just the fact that it's braking the blade, but it puts that bit of energy back into the battery. Regenerative braking, just like in EVs. They could, I suppose, have put the resistors in the power brick, but that would have raised the cost of the wall adapter.
Without a doubt the Metabo. I love the AC adapter, like you said it is bulky but very useful often time, I mostly use it with my miter saw. Nice review.
i love my Metabo drills and drivers ,picked up a cordless Metabo router but havent had time to use it much yet i think it would be a great advantage to have the power adapter and i have 5 batteries-- but 2 drills ,1 driver, and 1 router --SO that adapter could be nice!!!!
I'm stunned to see any Metabo HPT tool on this channel, but there's a correction that needs to be made. The adapter ONLY works on 36V tools. The batteries are 18/36 Flexvolt, and will work on both 18 and 36V tools. The adapter is 36V only, and will not work with the 18V tools.
I am still waiting on any US channel to feature mafell saws. So i am very surprised to see metabo saws being shown. (I didnt knew they were making saws at all.)
@@Zimmerer_Sebastian I'm a little surprised, but not shocked you didn't know that. Metabo HPT has a full line up of Corded and battery recip, circular, miter, and table saws. Equal quality, lower priced and better warranty than most. Not shocked because most tool reviewers don't cover any tools that aren't red, yellow, or lime green.
@@ST-0311 im from germany and i havent seen them being used here. But every carpenter uses mafell saws. Festool is used by furniture / cabinet makers (we have a clear distinction between those two jobs which require 3 years of apprenticeship).
One of the big beefs I have read about the Festool table saw is that it is battery power only. Metabo must be reading and using all this feedback in the designs of their new tools.
Most of my corded tools are Hitachi, now Metabo. I have 10" mitre, 4" grinder, a half inch drill with a right angle adapter that turns it into a mini Hole Hog for much less, jigsaw and router with two base options. All are plenty powerful and were significantly cheaper than the yellow, red, or blue alternatives when I bought them about 6 years ago.
The ac adapter is definitely a cool feature. Dewalt does have one for its 120V applications. I dont think we're going to see this with other manufacturers any time soon, though. There's big money in batteries.
I've used a Metabo slide saw with the ac adapter and have had problems with it in the past on very hot days and in direct sunlight. It seemed to have overheated and stopped working. We've tried replacing the unit but still had the same problem. But that was I guess the first generation model so maybe Matabo has it sorted out by now.
Great video Matt looks like a great track saw definitely would have looked into it if I didn’t have the Ridgid track saw after watching your review and getting your tool deals which I love getting. Thanks for sharing
I definitely like the power cord option. I’ve never before thought about getting a metabo because I don’t want to have 3 different battery systems and I already have DEWALT and Kobalt systems so the ability to use the adapter and not have to worry about buying three more batteries just for the one tool is a game changer
Great review, the adapter is a game changer, others probably won’t sell one because they are scared it will affect their battery sales. I think the only thing I didn’t like about Metabo was the use of a laser for their miter saw and not a shadow line. Bang for your buck this track saw is hard to ignore.
The corded adapter is GREAT!! I have been telling the Milwaukee reps that i run into they need to have that!! there are many times i am working right next to an outlet and the tools i might be using wouldn't need to be battery only!! thank you!
I would have purchased this saw, but they were too late to the game. I am team mean green (still using an 18v drill from over a decade ago and it’s still a beast).
As always, an excellent review. I would have liked to see the Metabo tracks and your thoughts on them too. Nonetheless, I think the AC adaptor is a great idea, especially if one plans to use the track saw indoors more often. I already have the Metabo table saw, which I really like and thus I already have that AC adapter. It's a no brainer for me, Metabo is it. I will purchase it soon as possible because of your numerous positive points noted in your review. Thank you.
finally, thanks Matt. love mine, although mine is Hikoki brand. in regards to the battery it is multi volt which means it works on 18v AND 36v tools. o my brand that does this. means you don’t need to buy into 1 platform. you can buy and interchange your tools and the batteries work on both 😊
I'd rather have just a corded track saw regardless. Don't work anywhere I need a battery. Still, look at the WEN CT1274 7-1/4" corded track saw. Much higher quality than its little brother the 6-1/2" CT 1065. It is the ultimate value play in this category, solid & usable for $137. Been encouraging you to review it for a long time!
Thanks for this, Matt. I have been a bit worried about the disappearance of corded track saws, so the adapter kit is awesome. I've already put it on my Amazon list. This is also interesting timing. I had been considering the Bosch SCMS, and when I put my hands on it at Lowes, moving the safety and pulling the trigger was tough since I don't have particularly large hands. Right next to it was the Metabo SCMS, and it actually looks fantastic. I've decided I may go with that. And it's on the order of $200 cheaper!
The battery adapter is awesome. I have a corded and cordless t55 and wish there was was this feature. To cord or not to cord, that is the question I find myself trying to find the answer to more and more these days when buying a new tool. If one of these companies could just bring out a model that had the same power in both cord and cordless they would corner the market.
Is there a more annoying feature then the swiveling dust connection port? It will just hang down all the time because you know, gravity, and will get stuck behind your track ALL THE TIME. Yes, festool has those things that slightly lock it but after a month of use it just swivels like that feature was never even there. It's the number one complaint on the ts55 from everyone I know. Why would you want it to point anywhere but up? It got me to buy the mafell. Hopefully it holds up better but at least there is a adjustment screw to set it more tightly. If not I will take some pvc glue and fix that thing permanently.
Great video Matt! Weird that Lowes don’t carry this on their website. I like that it has a corded option. Options are always a plus. I know that there is options to buy to convert other batteries to a specific brand on Etsy. Kinda like a -adapter option.
The two Lowe's stores in my area have an anemic Metabo-HPT selection. It's frustrating. I wish they had less of some other brands and more Metabo-HPT. I suppose they have their reasons.
@@JimDoubleYa Yeah. I just bought their 12 inch sliding compound saw. Has a vertical handle like the festool. It’s different but works great! Almost bought the Bosch Gladiator.
Metabo HPT (Hikoki, that is) is not any lower-end than Milfookee or Makita, by any means. Actually it's higher end than the red one because there are spare parts available for it if you need a repair. You cannot effectively repair a Milwaukee.
I just checked the price of parts, milwacky sells the stator as a kit(like always) with the speed controller and trigger switch for 175 bucks(not too bad) but if you break a switch you're changing a motor with it 😂 For comparison, Hikoki sells the just the stator for 117 and the switch for 4 bucks 😂
@@zaxmaxlax This is Metabo HPT, so the North Amerivcan market. Their presence in North America is relatively scant compared to Hikoki's presence elsewhere so comparing serviceability and cost doesn't't really work. Unfortunately it's not easy to find their tools, accessories or parts here compared to brands like Milwaukee, DeWalt, Makita etc...
DeWalt 12" (Flex volt) sliding compound miter saw has this AC adapter to go from 2 flex volt batteries (20v) ... Take batteries off and slide on the AC adapter! Perfect for field and then in garage use. I own this DeWalt and have had it for a little under 5 years now.
What makes the availability of the plug in adapter so appealing, is it pretty much removes the need to buy batteries from a brand you don't normally use. All my battery powered tools are Rigid so I try to avoid other brands as much as possible. But if you can by with this with just one battery, the charger and the adapter, then that is a much easier pill to swallow.
This was on a killer special at Lowe's a month ago. I couldn't find any reviews or info on it. Specifically as to what tracks it was compatible with. Thanks for the review
I bought the 7.25in Wen track daw and track. Crazy cheap and decent products. I figured I won't use it a ton, but I just needed it for breaking down material and cutting rough ends from furniture tops. I didn't exactly need anything super fancy.
I do have the Makita as well as Milwaukee track saws and it is an oversight on Makita to exclude the riving knife or splitter. Consider the fact you’re cutting almost exclusively rips and usually long rips it’s certainly very realistic to expect some pinching. It’s the nature of the beast! Maybe not on ply or mdf but any solid wood will have some tension during longways cuts. I’m pretty sure Metabo has other battery and cord adapter tools. Plus Dewalt has miter saws that uses batteries and adapters . Mind you supposedly the Dewalt has some issues using the plug in adapter . Blown motors or similar issues if I recall correctly . The kits will always add big bucks to any package. On sale Milwaukee is likely the best of all worlds. Good value and reasonable price! Black Friday is right around the corner. Plug in option not that enticing for me .
The battery adapter does it for me. I've been looking at different track saws for a year now, going back and forth between brand and corded va cordless. I'm sold on this for the price to value. One thing I don't get is why they couldn't incorporate the brick into the false battery? Maybe in the future, but who knows.
I have had my Makita cordless saw without riving knife give me a kick back once or twice. Admittedly I probably didn’t use it the way the manufacturer intended. But. The riving knife might have saved it jumping and gouging my track
Metabo is pretty big in germany, and I have the cordless track saw, which is my favourite power tool btw. It's widely advertised on one of the biggest tool related channels here. It's also very similar to the US version, with little differences. Weird to me is that Metabo has the Makita style case in the US, because in germany it has a very different one that is more like a Festool case.
Even though I'm a metric guy, I'll tell you why braking is slower: the battery has a very low internal resistance, and they probably use the motor in "generator" mode, dynamic braking, putting energy into the battery, but the corded adapter is not designed to take power input, so that the motor spins down just braking, probably, through the protection diodes. Cheers from a metric electrical engineer 😃
Metabo make the best tools hands down, I've used the grinders for welding forever, i got metabo hpt tools for homestead, handy man stuff and lemme tell ya there's no impact that stands up at all their circ saws are crazy good.. Everything is so good compared to DeWalt and Milwaukee honestly i feel like i waisted so much money for years
@@codaroma yup I know that, i started out with regular metabo grinders, got hpt grinder replacement and it was even better bought saw impact drill router getting the track saw, haven't had a single disappointment yet.
I think the central track adjustment is a disadvantage really. What if one side is slightly binding, and the other one is still loose. With independant adjustment it isn't an issue.
Can please give a review of a Hikoki track saw? I bet you will like it as much as the other high end track saw. I love to watch youre videos, you give a fair and good review. Greetings from the Netherlands
Since I use a different battery brand for all my tools, The Battery plug in is Paramount to my decision. I would defiantly go with the Metabo. I am not spending more money for a one off tool brand battery replacement.
The battery adapters are cool. DeWalt has one but they had serious issues with them failing. I’m not certain they even make them any more. Even then I think it was only available for the miter saw.
You're right, it was for the miter saw and they were dogs. If you used it on line voltage it would end up killing the motor. DeWalt service center said it was a known problem, but DeWalt did nothing for the customer. Killed DeWalt in our shop.
Have you ever tested Mafell mt55 ? Im using this one - its most expensive but also by many called the best track saw in the world - i think for a reason. And its the same battery platform as Metanbo :) they in a cordless aliance.
11:17 Here's my hypothesis why it brakes faster with a battery. When using a battery it's a closed-loop electrical system. When you release the trigger current flow is cut to the motor and when a motor spins w/o current it becomes a generator. Assuming the circuitry does not prevent reverse current -- that is, it remains a closed loop -- the reverse current flows back to the battery and works as a brake, essentially regenerative braking. Whether this effectively charges the battery is moot since, at best, it's very little but the result is the same (the motor works as a brake). This can't be done when plugged into the grid b/c the grid is pretty big and a laughably small current from a track saw would, you know, get laughed at. That's my story and I'm sticking to it 😝

One of the big beefs I have read about the Festool table saw is that it is battery power only. Metabo must be reading and using all this feedback in the designs of their new tools.
That corded adapter feature is great! I've thought about doing a similar thing for my M12/M18 Milwaukee tools.
Hitachi is now Hikoki
The ac adapter is definitely a cool feature. Dewalt does have one for its 120V applications. I dont think we're going to see this with other manufacturers any time soon, though. There's big money in batteries.
I've used a Metabo slide saw with the ac adapter and have had problems with it in the past on very hot days and in direct sunlight. It seemed to have overheated and stopped working. We've tried replacing the unit but still had the same problem. But that was I guess the first generation model so maybe Matabo has it sorted out by now.
I’m really impressed with all the metabo woodworking tools I’ve used I’d really like to get one of these eventually. Praying for yall
Great video Matt looks like a great track saw definitely would have looked into it if I didn’t have the Ridgid track saw after watching your review and getting your tool deals which I love getting. Thanks for sharing
Metabo/Hitachi has always been a hidden gem tool brand.
The new models miter saw don't use a laser anymore. The are also using shadow line.
I have their 18v, single bevel miter saw. It's a pretty good saw. It has a drop shadow.
I really appreciate the tool reviews AND close up action shots of the Pelagos.....you have a very classy taste in watches
Thank you!
The corded adapter is GREAT!! I have been telling the Milwaukee reps that i run into they need to have that!! there are many times i am working right next to an outlet and the tools i might be using wouldn't need to be battery only!! thank you!
Flex does have the AC adapter as well but it's just for the table saw and miter saw. I wish Flex made a Track Saw. Looks like a awesome saw.
Probably just a matter of time before Flex introduces one. It’ll most likely be a great saw if they do.
I would have purchased this saw, but they were too late to the game. I am team mean green (still using an 18v drill from over a decade ago and it’s still a beast).
I’ve been complaining about this for years. Put an option for a plug on these battery powered tools!!!
Also, don’t fear metric, it won’t hurt you
As always, an excellent review. Thank you.
I have the Metabo HPT job site table saw- which has Ebrake, soft start, rack and pinion fence and can handle a dado blade.
finally, thanks Matt. love mine, although mine is Hikoki brand. in regards to the battery it is multi volt which means it works on 18v AND 36v tools. o my brand that does this. means you don’t need to buy into 1 platform. you can buy and interchange your tools and the batteries work on both 😊
I'd rather have just a corded track saw regardless.
@@RYwoodview Also sold as "triton" and "titan" in europe. Bought mine for 150eur with tracks
I love hitachi/metabo tools. Can’t beat them for the price.
It was about time that somebody offers a cordless/corded solution like that!
For me, the Kreg track saw with the table combo are unbeatable. It’s by far my most used tool in the shop!
Mafell for the win!
Great video Matt! Weird that Lowes don’t carry this on their website. I like that it has a corded option. Options are always a plus. I know that there is options to buy to convert other batteries to a specific brand on Etsy. Kinda like a -adapter option.
I think they are currently sold out of them.
@EDVERSiTY Flex seems to be their go to now. They are back and fourth.
Track saw Sunday! Looks like a nice product. I love the battery adapter thing. Very cool!
Metabo HPT (Hikoki, that is) is not any lower-end than Milfookee or Makita, by any means. Actually it's higher end than the red one because there are spare parts available for it if you need a repair. You cannot effectively repair a Milwaukee.
I just checked the price of parts, milwacky sells the stator as a kit(like always) with the speed controller and trigger switch for 175 bucks(not too bad) but if you break a switch you're changing a motor with it 😂
For comparison, Hikoki sells the just the stator for 117 and the switch for 4 bucks 😂
I'd like to see you try out a Flatmaster. It's a drum sander/planer alternative.
9:40 - top of the line is Mafell :)
(In my opinion) Small Mafell kss 40 with spring return tracksaw is crazy good tool
This was on a killer special at Lowe's a month ago. I couldn't find any reviews or info on it. Specifically as to what tracks it was compatible with. Thanks for the review
Nice review. I did notice that the plywood off-cut had LOTS of splintering, though.
I bought the 7.25in Wen track daw and track. Crazy cheap and decent products. I figured I won't use it a ton, but I just needed it for breaking down material and cutting rough ends from furniture tops. I didn't exactly need anything super fancy.
Love the battery adapter!
I have one metabo tool. It's a jig saw and I've had it for years. It's a fine tool. Very curious about this one.
The cord adapter is big more companies need to do this
Like the battery/AC adapter. It would be nice to have that for all of my M-12 and M-18 tools. JimE
Dewalt, flex also has That battery adaptor is awesome, I own Metabo saws and flex tools. I LOVE BOTH..
Good review, you should try the bosch track saw next.
But. The riving knife might have saved it jumping and gouging my track
happened to me as well. Also, the plate was not properly parallel with the blade out of the box causing the saw to chew up the anti splinter guide.
Would love to see a review on the Dewalt DWE7491RS. I have been eyeballing it and seen some reviews I just appreciate your opinion on things!
I think the power cord adapter all manufactured should adopt that.
I wish you could review the metabo job site table saw!!!
Metabo for the win.
Great review, thanks!
Old school dude here. Cordless drill and impact driver only. Full powered corded tools are my game. Time tested and reliable.
Looks like a good saw. Great review! Only thing I like green is the Hulk and money.
I got the cable-model and this has kickback protection. Difference to Festool is, it's not mechanical but with a gyro-switch.
Le gasp, le shock, a corded and cordless feature in the same tool... Metabo me impressed!
I love that Tudor watch you have on too!
Thanks!
Metabo make the best tools hands down, I've used the grinders for welding forever, i got metabo hpt tools for homestead, handy man stuff and lemme tell ya there's no impact that stands up at all their circ saws are crazy good.. Everything is so good compared to DeWalt and Milwaukee honestly i feel like i waisted so much money for years
btw Metabo and Metabo HPT are two completely different companies. Metabo is the grinder company. This saw is not.
@@codaroma yup I know that, i started out with regular metabo grinders, got hpt grinder replacement and it was even better bought saw impact drill router getting the track saw, haven't had a single disappointment yet.
Have you ever reviewed the Metabo HPT 12-in 15-Amp Dual Bevel Sliding Compound Corded Miter Saw?
i haven't tried that one yet
That is brilliant
I think the central track adjustment is a disadvantage really.
What if one side is slightly binding, and the other one is still loose.
With independant adjustment it isn't an issue.
I was looking at the Milwaukee, mainly based on your review, but the price point and the battery adapter will probably change my mind.
Can please give a review of a Hikoki track saw? I bet you will like it as much as the other high end track saw.
I love to watch youre videos, you give a fair and good review.
Greetings from the Netherlands
Metabo HPT is Hikoki in North America.
This is the Hikoki track saw, just a different name
Cord option = Genius. I'm assuming you can use that corded adapter on any cordless Metabo tool. That would be double genius
Yep, the battery to ac psu should be available for all, although I hope we soon get regulation and batteries are interoperable.
It would be awesome if you could do a review about the Evolution R185CCSX 15-Amp 7-1/4-in Corded Plunge/Track Circular Saw or the new cordless one.
Pls test more metabo tools an i had onother idea pick up one of the older festool tracksaw and compare it withe the newer one
Love the vids
Have you tried the Mafell? The track joining method is fantastic. But the tracks are sorely missing the up-facing t-slot.
i haven't tried them yet.
And its the same battery platform as Metanbo :) they in a cordless aliance.
metabo looks like good tools I'm curious of their table saw.
