The Twinstead Hoard is an interesting sovereign story. On the day of a metal detecting charity event gold sovereigns were found but only two were handed in . The next day during a further search with the farmer 135 Sovereigns were found in the same spot

I can only imagine the house was sold under probate or to fund an elderly person's care home costs. some sort of degenerative illness must explain how someone forgot their stash?

I'd be lucky if I found a 10p piece down the back of the sofa these days!!! A good old hoard of Sovereigns there and a few bargains for the bidders even with the Auctioneers Premium, which are scandalous these days!!!
Yeah on that particular auction the auction house seemed to be the real winner there. A shame for whoever collected them presumably they made some sacrifices to acquire them all
So for a quick sale, the finders potentially lost out on £10k - £15k extra if they'd did a tiny bit of research and sold them themselves.
Even just going to the main online bullion dealers you'd surely get about spot for most and maybe slightly less for some of the more worn ones but yeah surely £350 and above off current spot price
It's even worse than that, I would bet that realized price shown is before commission. Auction houses are a joke, 20% from the seller and the buyer! Gave almost half their money to the auction house @@SovereignSaurus
I was surprised to see VAT was charged.
I would have thought that if the latest sovereign was 2018 within the same find, It would indicate that the it was a very recent stacker, who will undoubtedly will be seriously upset, if he or she is still alive.
Yeah the first image thumbnail of an article when I searched was the 5th portrait so I was even more curious then.... Maybe they passed away in 2018 or more recently and the finder has just bought their house and paid to have it cleared or similar I'll update If I can find further info

That's the auction completed it looks like. I would have probably considered some bids had I seen it but there wasn't anything that stood out as being particularly special or difficult to attain

Not bad... They seem a little less popular than full sovs overall but if you can get them at a reasonable premium I don't see why not 👍🏼
@@SovereignSaurusDouble sovereigns are a very good addition to 1/2oz britannias, I've got a double proof 2002 shield (my absolute favourite), 150yrs of FA cup, DNA, 300 yrs bank of England, Peace Dove, George and dragon and some 2022 Queen Elizabeth Platinum Jubilee (that look very impressive on a greater surface area)
These bigger than 1/4oz and full sovereign sized coin are a good substitute for the less affordable 1oz britannias and Quintuplet sovereigns.
If you can get 2 examples, you won't feel so bad if you need to part with one

Haha I suppose that's the disadvantage of using a safe deposit box someone isn't going to stumble across a hoard of sovs in my sock drawer when I slide off the plate
@@SovereignSaurus one thing I saw in the video that I liked was the coins found in the piano were in little leather sacks. It makes me want to buy some little soft leather sacks and fill them with gold coins.
