Hi mate, yes these tiny gold coins don't come up very often and certainly not on pasture. I still cannot believe I wandered on to that very quiet field and found that 1 week after finding another gold coin in the same area. Just came across your channel, fab finds! The Swiss(?) shield & the Peak District one are most likely a walking stick badges, my Grandad used to collect them from places he visited. The details on the gold coin are amazing! Stunning.

There is no such things as lines when friends are detecting together, you know as well as I do its entirely pot luck who walks over what. Its just the way the cookie crumbles, but yeah I feel somewhat guilty about finding nice stuff and you guys didn't, which I too felt on Sunday. Life as a solo detectorist is a lot less complicated haha

The gold coin! Just incredible that it had been there since three years after Trafalgar and still looked so good. I’ve no experience in this yet, but would the good condition like that be because of the soil type? When I get out locally I’m going to be digging in clay a lot so I need to research what that does to metals. The badges you dug I think I recognise, especially the Swiss one. On a trip across Austria and Switzerland back in 1972 these were a bit of a craze. You bought a wooden walking stick and then these little badges which came complete with two small nails. You nailed the badge to your walking stick as a memento of places you had visited. My guess is that the ones you found had simply fallen off of walking sticks somewhere in the past. Great finds!

I believe the scratches on the coin were not actually caused by me, as the portrait side was still encased in earth when I revealed it. That small colourful shield you found are nameplates that travellers buy when travelling picturesque popar areas in Germany/Austria/Switzerland and affix to walking sticks. Keen travellers can be found to have numerous tacked on to their sticks. I was born and raised in Germany and is a relatively common thing to see

👌🪙 So beautiful fields to walk! They litteraly smell good finds. I really would like to detect in the UK some day. It's far away though. Maybe, maybe... The Swiss/Austrian badge looks like the badge they put on wooden walking sticks in the alps. Villages and places have souvenir badges like this. I have had such a stick once in the 70-th. 🌞🇸🇪

Hi there, thanks so much for visiting my channel and for watching this video. It always amazes me too how many coins and artefacts are out there. But when you think about it, for 2,000 years here in the UK, for almost all that time, the biggest employment sector was agriculture - everyone was in the fields working the fields, harvesting etc, there were no tractors or combine harvesters, it was all done by hand. Also there was no transport, so everyone was using the footpaths to travel to places, hence why so many coins can be found on and around footpaths. It really is an awesome hobby to be able to uncover all this lost history

I still cannot believe I wandered on to that very quiet field and found that 1 week after finding another gold coin in the same area. There is no such things as lines when friends are detecting together, you know as well as I do its entirely pot luck who walks over what. Its just the way the cookie crumbles, but yeah I feel somewhat guilty about finding nice stuff and you guys didn't, which I too felt on Sunday. Life as a solo detectorist is a lot less complicated haha

@TheDukesOfDerbyshire some people will always be like that mate it's just a bit of jealousy yknow what I mean I've still got lots of things to find on my bucket list and being a detectorist you really wanna find this stuff your not gunna go spend money on it and plant it are you 😂 although some people do 😂 it's all about getting out there uncovering history and doing something you love take no notice of the haters and maybe do an extended video of your full day and show all the shit you dig aswell just keep up the hard work mate and enjoy every minute of these amazing finds!

But then February came along and I found a silver hammered coin, then an early milled silver coin, then back to back gold coins. The gold coin! Just incredible that it had been there since three years after Trafalgar and still looked so good. I’ve no experience in this yet, but would the good condition like that be because of the soil type? When I get out locally I’m going to be digging in clay a lot so I need to research what that does to metals. The badges you dug I think I recognise, especially the Swiss one. On a trip across Austria and Switzerland back in 1972 these were a bit of a craze. You bought a wooden walking stick and then these little badges which came complete with two small nails. You nailed the badge to your walking stick as a memento of places you had visited. My guess is that the ones you found had simply fallen off of walking sticks somewhere in the past. Great finds!

I believe the scratches on the coin were not actually caused by me, as the portrait side was still encased in earth when I revealed it. Got addicted to metal detecting videos about a year ago, want to do it but still haven't got the funds to start, this is the first time i have caught you guy's , really enjoyed the camaraderie. i found the pace of video good, not to long winded, the young man Paddy! you obviously have a good knowledge and nice to see a young man getting dirty, fresh air, sunshine and enjoying yourself. Hi Dave, thank you very much, not a sniff of gold since September 2021, then 2 old Georgian gold coins come along in the space of 7 days. These things happen in this wonderful hobby and it has happened to me before with a half sovereign and the FOB seal - which were found on consecutive weekends and on the same permission (the old Hall grounds). That small colourful shield you found are nameplates that travellers buy when travelling picturesque popar areas in Germany/Austria/Switzerland and affix to walking sticks. Keen travellers can be found to have numerous tacked on to their sticks.

I’m amazed at how many coins you found in a field!
Hi there, thanks so much for visiting my channel and for watching this video. It always amazes me too how many coins and artefacts are out there. But when you think about it, for 2,000 years here in the UK, for almost all that time, the biggest employment sector was agriculture - everyone was in the fields working the fields, harvesting etc, there were no tractors or combine harvesters, it was all done by hand. Also there was no transport, so everyone was using the footpaths to travel to places, hence why so many coins can be found on and around footpaths. It really is an awesome hobby to be able to uncover all this lost history
