Absolutely amazing. I detected for 20+ years and found some cool stuff, but never a gold coin! (Nice dig helper, too!) What a hotspot. Imagine how crushing a loss that must have been for the poor soul who lost those in the 18th century!
I think those were buried Thier or discarded purposely I doubt a poor person with 4 gold coins would just keep them loosely in Thier pocket they would of probably been in a money bag of some kind of they were lost , the poor thieves use to lie in waiting in the forest to steal from rich people who were travelling in those days ide say someone dropped them purposely or someone buried them to collect later but never made it back to that spot
Yea my dogs same if she spots me doing something she really wants to help or get involved 😂 his dog reminded me of what my dog does when foraging anything I find she tries to snatch 😂😂😂

But we're the remains of the leather purse ? Surely it wouldn't have disintegrated into nothing and the coins were slightly spread out if they were in a purse that deteriated wouldn't they have been clumped together as one ?

I hope you went back and hunted the whole area. The earlier beeps were worth digging. I always dig around the msin targets moving in a spiral, making sure I didn't miss any other good targets.

I can relate to how you must have felt. In my 18 years of detecting my coin highlights are a 22 k gold English Sovereign, a one ounce .999 silver maple leaf bullion and a 1928 US silver half dollar. Stuff is out there as long as you are willing to put in the time.👍

My brother and myself were lucky enough to find a scattered hoard of George 3rd guineas. Long time ago now , bk in the early 2000s My brother found the first, I thought he was winding me up with one of those brass gaming peices until I had a proper look ... A great feeling, well done m8 , 👍👍 Was a 2 day club dig , following day just a few yards away a club member found a hoard of Charles 1st half crowns .. Unbelievable considering everyone came over to see our gold coins and spent the rest of the 1st day , what was left of it , searching around and around that area until dark. How the silvers were missed is unbelievable, there were even footprints above the ground from where they were found from the day before. I can only imagine people were rushing, not focusing, whatever reason its still the craziest weekend digs ive ever been on .
Amazing find, I dig here in Spanish colonial St Augustine Florida est 1565, I'm a deep woods hunter and have recovered 41 Spanish silvers oldest 1556, i dug 5 in the same hole 1556-1621, I could have done butt naked backflips out the woods. 4 golds I would have .... Well done my friend, well done. Do you remember where they hit on the Nox I dig a lot of British 1700s here as well, the Spanish cobs hit around 22 on the Nox.
