The band that everyone who played video games in the 2000s knows at least one of their song
I don't
Need for Speed Underground , disabled all other songs 😂
Smackdown vs Raw 2006 - Start A War
Knew all these songs but never knew they were static x.
Indeed, even if it is The Only one that you know :P
"Some complications happening within the band" is an extremely polite way of putting it.
Weren't their also some conflicts between the other band members and Wayne's wife?
I remember some interview stating they did not appreciate her becoming the new band mascot running around half naked on stage or starring in their music videos.
@@burningtheevidence8038This is correct
@burningtheevidence8038 no, he's talking about Trip Eison's multiple sexual assault convictions.
Yes, that was the bassist Tony who had issues with his wife. Their 2009 album Cult of Static has song with Wayne's wife name on 2 songs and she's also on the cover. In a way she was the Yoko Ono of Static-X @@burningtheevidence8038
haha came here to say exactly this.
I've seen Static-X with Wayne and with Xer0. I can't put into proper words how well-done and respectful of Wayne the entire production and reunification of the band has been. It is absolutely in character for the band and for Wayne and I, for one, think it would have fit his morbid sense of humor quite well.
Yeah, this guy is wrong. I think he has a personal problem with Xer0
@@deelish22 Are you referring to me? If so, I assure you I do not.
@@deelish22 lol, what are you talking about. Xer0 (Edsel Dope) was wayne's friend for well over 20 years. They were close friends and respected each other to the max.
Yall are missing understanding each other. Thomas, deelish is saying you are right and the video maker is incorrect.
I think you hit the nail right on the head there buddy!
I met Wayne back in 1999. It was their first tour for Wisconsin Death Trip. They played at a little venue in Milwaukee called the Modjeska Theatre that doesn't even exist anymore. We hung out at the bar after the show. I was only 17. A friend I was with was wearing a Type O Negative shirt and Wayne kept praising them and saying how bad he wanted to tour with them. Two great front men gone from music too soon. Wayne Static and Peter Steele. That would have been a kick ass tour too! Anyway, before Tera and drugs got a hold of him, Wayne was always getting to know his fans. Really cool guy. RIP
I met Peter Steele in Detroit when they opened for Danzig, before October rust. I'm the same height as he, and he was carrying his own gear, like I do. So I said he's not that big, and he dropped his gear and got right up to my face, and he snarled. I loved type o, so I was in awe. Then he turned around, walked away, and I stood there while my buddies were screaming at me. Awesome 🤘
@alanomie Hell yeah, I met him once, too. Coal Chamber tour 1999. There was this chick that had huge boobs next to us, and he looked at her and said, "Got Milk?" Lmfao.
Idk if he ever toured with Type O Negative, but he toured with Seventh Void in 2009. I TM'd that tour for Bury Your Dead who was also on it.
Wayne and Peter, two legends gone to soon
Got milk? Metal! 🤘
Wisconsin death trip is one of the best industrial albums ever made....RIP Wayne, seemed like such a nice, chill dude.....🤘🤘🤘
Exactly what I came here to say.
He absolutely was a nice, chill dude! I was at an industry party in... 1998? I think? and my colleague got blackout drunk at one of the venues. Wayne walked into the bathroom (didn't realize it was the ladies'), realized something was wrong, and helped to get her conscious again. Kept getting water for her, took turns with me holding her hair while she had her head in the toilet, kept me from getting too anxious. (My colleague refused medical help.) When she was well enough to walk, he hailed a cab for us. The next day, he caught up with us at a daytime event to make sure we were okay. I will never, ever forget that.
@@ashextraordinaire wow, thats awesome to learn. u could really tell he was a down to earth and nice guy.
@@ashextraordinairethanks for sharing that. Really great interaction and follow up!
I agree. Great band. Way back I went to a CD Warehouse or something. The Original line up signed a bunch of my stuff. I still have a signed flier for the show. Long time ago. Awesome live too. Around that time X and LSD was really big. I was a kid but everyone at that show was tripping. 98, 99 or something
We really just glossed over why Tripp was fired from the band, didn't we?
Why was he fired?
Haha I was thinking same thing 😂
@@MrKyurielinappropriate relations with underage girls
I thought the same. He made a fake myspace page pretending to be himself seeking underage girls. Weird dude.
Finn probably didn’t want to get demonetized talking about it
I really miss the good old days when you could discover new music by playing videogames or watching movies, it was amazing and you had a lot to talk about with your friends...
Static-X playlist still on my feed and it will never disappear
I think you can still do. Heck, I reunited with Accept thanks to Saints Row and some of those songs got me to look for two whole new genres for me, just to make the last game I played.
I still get your point though.
I also loved to go from artist page to artist page on Myspace to discover new material. Everyone had a music player on their site!
Yep, I can sing ever song start to finish. I think Static-X is the only one I can do that. I listen to at least one of there songs every day. :)
When you stay after the move till the music over and the dude up top understanding why brings the volume up before clean up. Golden days honestly. Sony walkman with them headphone special everyone had. Blasting the og playstation to sound system to play the game music tracks. Was awesome!
@@mumbolsI do miss those days. I think I was born at the right time in history. I dont know many people who says the same. But with being the only gen without internet then seeing it become what it is today and all the stuff that the internet showed me..... I wouldnt be the same person today without it. And I wouldnt change a thing. :D
In June off '99, I went to see Fear Factory by myself. I'd never heard of the two opening bands (Static-X and System of a Down). I was having a beer near an alley near the tour trucks, and I saw some guy with a completely insane haircut and braided beard hauling gear out of the truck. I struck up a conversation with him and told him how I'd been into Fear Factory since their early days, loved industrial metal, blah blah blah. He asked if I'd heard the other bands, and I told him that I hadn't. He told me that they were pretty good and that I should make sure I didn't miss Static-X (whom admittedly I was in no rush to see). I thanked him, finished my beer, and made it inside before the show. The lights dropped, the music started, and that's when I realized I'd been talking to the lead singer of Static-X. He had been totally coy, didn't tell me who he was, and had been totally chill. I loved their set, bought their album at the merch booth, and was a fan after that. I chose not to go see the new incarnation of them, but a friend told me it was seeing an awesome Static-X cover band. I still don't know how I feel about that, but people gotta work, right?
What a cool interaction!
It's hard without knowing any of them personally how Wayne would feel about it and easy to think it's all just driven by money.
Too kooky for me anyway
Wayne is an amazing person. He really will just be super casual with fans like that. What an experience man.
I know exactly how you feel, but the members do an amazing job with the concerts nowadays. I went to one and talk about nostalgia. It was one of the best concerts I had ever been to and they mostly played there old stuff. Makes you miss Wayne even more but at the same time you appreciate what the remaining members are doing.
It is not like seeing a cover band at all.
That's a great story. Wayne sounds like he was a good dude. I never got into them and didn't realize he had passed. I did see Static X the same year you did though, in November 99 opening for Megadeth at the Warehouse in Toronto.
I think they reformed as respectfully as possible. I think as time goes on, keeping the static x as a legacy act will help heal those hurt by the loss of Wayne.
Yeah making the new lead singer a robot zombie version of Wayne... Really respectful huh?
Wayne didn't want a reunion when he was alive, why would he want a reunion almost immediately after his death, being replaced by a copy? This is clearly a cash grab from the ex members as Wayne was the only person with any talent in the band, and the ex members couldn't find any success outside the band
"only person with any talent"?! Campos and Koichi are incredibly talented....
It is a cash grab, no doubt. But I think they do a reasonable job of honoring him.
@@Hey-Its-May The original mask looked like dead skin, super creepy like they exhumed his unwilling corpse and pulled his face off. Felt pretty gross.
@richardponton3920 not sure if you were paying attention to the vid, but Wayne broke up the band cause he was doing all the work, and the rest wanted equal pay. Sounds like they were always leaches. And if these other guys are so talented, why are they STILL riding Wayne's coat tails almost 10 years after his death?
I didn't know the return of static x was controversial, I thought it was great
everything is controversial now
I can't figure out why they wouldn't start a new group though? It seems really weird to walk in someone else's shoes when you will never be them. And that baggage will always be hanging on your shoulders, whereas it wouldn't be if you had the exact same project under a new and different name.
yeah i think thats just something finn dreamed up.
It’s Punk Rock MBA click bait. Static X rules with or without Wayne
For me it was the Wayne mask that was a bit weird, wearing someone's identity who has passed on didn't really sit right tbh :s
I've seen Static-X with Xero singing twice now. I'll be seeing them again this summer at Sick New World. Phenomenal show. I hope Static-X continues to release new material.
I met Wayne once at a small club in Boston. It was back when they were touring for Wisconsin Death Trip. I think Dope and Chevelle were the openers. I asked him how he gets his hair to stay up like that. He told me Elmer's Glue. Idk if he was BS-ing me or not but I just said "Cool". lol
There is a UA-cam video of Wayne doing his hair.its nothing more than alot of hairspray.
He used Got 2 B Glued and the Aussie max hold hair spray, the trick was timing with the hair spray in several layers over about 15 minutes or else it would start to go limp. There's a video of it on UA-cam somewhere and a girl he had help him do his hair lol
he did a interview with wbcn talking about it i wish i could find it
@@conjureconquercreate909 I used to usu that G2B Glued and other similar products was well, but that stuff was only invented later. There were guys like Wayne and the old school punk rockers would literally use Elmer's glue in their hair, because it was water soluble. The stuff that was made for hair just smells better and is a little bit weaker, but they got the idea for those products because there was clearly a market for it.
The whole Xero thing is amazing and total works
But he isn't as talented as Wayne. Never will be. Even if he lives another 1000 years!
It's impossible to be another person.... we are all different.
@@zzzz-sf5lr He is not there to replace Wayne he is there so no one will ever forget him sorry but xero has been nothing but respectful to Wayne's memory.

I saw Static-X with Wayne a few times and even met him and his wife. I actually saw Tony while with Soulfly, too. When they reformed I went to see Static-X after Wayne's death & while it did bother me a lot at first, I must say they do give a lot of respect towards wayne, and edsel dope kills it as their new lead.
They pay homage to him at every show too.
@@Zancb yep yep.

@moustachio334 yep, yep. It becomes more obvious when you see him play guitar or do some of the cleans live. It sounds great, but if you're paying attention, you'll notice. Plus Xero and Edsel literally have the same build.

With new singer Edsel Dope, Static-X is able to honor the memory of Wayne while propelling forward creating new kick-ass music. RIP Wayne.
Is it really Edsel Dope?
@@barnabyjones5161 yeah by now he’s practically admitted to be. Which makes sense since they have similar voices and they were friends when Wayne was alive.
Why not create your own new band instead of trying to cash grab off a legacy? Sounds like a hollywood move to me.
@@flynnlivescmdIt doesn't affect you either way what they do.
@@flynnlivescmd Do you want them to start from scratch at this stage of their lives? Mind you, these guys are in their 50's. They just want to work, and they all had a big part on building Static X to the great band it was. I saw Static-X on the Wisconsin Death Trip tour a couple of times, and got to meet Wayne at one of those shows. He was super cool, but slightly annoyed by people who kept asking him how he got his hair to stand up. The answer is, one can of hairspray. RIP Wayne!
I saw Wayne a week before he died.
And I think the reboot of Static X is awesome and beautiful.
dayum the video was way better than i expected
Thank you for this. Static x dominated my playlist in the 2000s. They were my gateway to ministry, pantera, soilwork and meshuggah. Wisconson deathtrip will forever be tied to my freshman year in highschool. I love the sound of griup and was always confused at to what happened.
Thank you for the closure.
I remember driving through the mountains at night around VA Tech (where I was in college) in 2002 and blasting WDT for hours. Sad i never got to see them live with Wayne. RIP Wayne Static.
That whole thing with their second album was crazy. Wayne said it should have been his first solo record because he wrote everything on his own and the rest of the band wouldn't help, and the rest of the band was mad that he left them out and did it all himself. The thing was he wrote it all on the tour bus. The rest of the band wanted to and planned to of course help write the record, but they wanted to do it in the studio after the tour. Wayne was impatient and demanded it now or never and refused to wait, so that's what happened.
Finally, someone sharing more details to the story. These always seem to focus on Wayne and Wayne only. All four of the original members were incredibly important to the band and the music they all created. I figured that it was going to get ugly right from the beginning when they got signed and Wayne changed his last name to the band's name.
I love any channel that can add the audio of the band, it makes a giant difference
thank you for covering one of my most favorite bands. RIP Wayne
I liked them when they made their debut, but never got to see them live. I lost track over the years, but found out they're still touring with the X character. I wouldn't mind catching a show now, even though Wayne has since passed on. Thanks for the video 🖤
Definitely worth seeing live, I just worked on of their shows. Really cool stage setup and lights, plus all the bands including the openers put on a good performance

What Edsel said in that interview was kinda beautiful and poetic. Wayne gets to kinda live on in every performance.
I just saw them in concert a few months ago. Dope opened for them. 2 bands later, the lead singer of Dope played as the lead singer of Static X
I went to their headline show in Dallas
Got to see Mushroomhead and Fear Factory play as well

Edsel dope description and the way he handled it was pure class. I was a huge static x fan as a kid so to see them continue to tour is awesome.
I think pretty much everyone loves how respectfully they are continuing and Edsel does amazing on the vocals
I used to listen to wisconsin death trip from start to finish on repeat in the car. I've seen the reunited band live. I never got to see them with Wayne singing. But they go out of their way to pay tribute to him during the shows. Zero sounds great. But i always imagined Wayne would have had more of a stage presence.
One of the few bands that I mocked UNTIL I saw them live, then instantly became a Stan.
I hope that's a typo. No one should want to become a Stan if the Eminem video is to be believed.
seeing them this weekend. your timing in perfect
I only got to see static x once while Wayne was still with us. Though the sound will never be the same without his unique voice, Edsel is absolutely killing it as zero, and I'm glad the rest of the guys decided to keep it going. I'm super stoked to see them this spring!
Static X has become one of my favorite bands over time. I liked some of their songs when I was in my teen years during the Limewire/Kazaa era. But going back in my 30's and listening to them is another experience. They were so fucking good, and their music is fantastic for the gym. The machine-like song compositions and focused rage Wayne brought are perfect for lifting. Permanence and Black and White have become mainstays for me.
exactly this
Got to see them play with some insane lineups over the years long ago, they introduced me to 40 below summer and were awesome to hang with after shows. Truely a legendary band of the genre and Edsels take is 100% spot on

One of my favorite bands. I love that they are continuing, and appreciate they got Wayne's family's blessing for the new line up.
Great video. Didn't expect a Static-X vid! I used to Tour Manage Bury Your Dead. We did two tours with Static-X in 2009. By that point Wayne was isolating himself from everyone except Tera. They almost never left the back lounge of their bus. Including once when their generator caught fire, our driver saw it, went and alerted everyone and got them off. Wayne and Tera stayed. Didn't wanna leave. It was a minor fire. Wayne never spoke to anyone. Ever. There was a rift in the band b/c he also allowed Tera Wray to come to signings and sign things. The rest of the dudes hated it. I'm glad to see them be able to carry on still. They were all so cool and talented and you could tell what was going on bummed them out. RIP to Wayne (and Tera as well) absolutely, it seemed like he was really fighting demons tbh. One of those tours I mentioned was Pedal To The Metal 4. Suicide Silence was also on it. So that's 2 singers from the same tour that died. HMU Finn I got stories.
This video rules. Static -x is one of my all time favorite lifetime bands. I think their sound is soooo good- GREAT discography. Loved the way you walked through it. RIP Wayne. I saw Wayne static play at namm in like 2012 and it was really cool. I talked to him once on the phone too, and I have a pretty vivid memory of that. I actually think about Wayne static like all the time. Big inspiration, he's a total icon and he worked hard. Very unique and original. Long live his legacy.

I think that the band put Static X back together as well as it could be done. This gives them a chance to continue and also gives fans what they want. Great brand, amazing music, and tragic end to Wayne's life. I've been a longtime fan since the early 2000's. Going to see the band live later this month in Chicago. RIP Wayne and Tera
They have played a lot over the past three years at different local venues I work at. The three of them all seem very cool. They take a minute to thank the staff for being there and helping them get everything set up/torn down, which is an extremely unnecessary but very kind gesture.
Just know ahead of time that if you’re thinking of getting their meet and greet packages, it’s for the three remaining members and not with zero.
Queen of the Damned and Resident Evil soundtracks were my Vans Warped tour mix.
oh hell yeah been hoping for this one for a while
So glad that Static X is back on tour and making new music. It keeps Wayne's memory and music alive and that's awesome. I met Wayne and Tony Campos in south Florida and they were so cool. I'm sure Wayne would be happy that his band is still kicking ass🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Drug addicts overdosing isn't tragic, it's inevitable
Curious about the amount of research you did for this video. The co-founder Ken "Joy"???? How about the long-time friend, bandmate and co-founder KEN JAY!! That was a simple but disrespectful error.
Static-X was one of the first bands that my dad had showed me that got me into metal. Recently, with the newest album on its way, I decided to go back and listen to their discography, and I realized how much I appreciate their music. I'm seeing them this month, and it really feels like a full circle moment where, after almost a quarter of a lifetime, I get to see one of the bands that made me in a way and expanded my taste in music.

Static-X is one of my favorite bands that may never get the kind of recognition that some of my other favorite nu-metal bands get, but they’re just as good at what they do and I love how they’re moving forward as a band with Wayne.
The current line up is awesome. Xero is the perfect tribute to Wayne and they are awesome live.

When they first played the show with that masked Wayne lookalike guy I thought it was a one off tribute and was kinda fitting, but when they started touring and kept that as a gimmick instead of just announcing the new vocalist it went from tribute to kinda cringe to me
I see nothing wrong with replacement as they did it. Wayne is still alive because of that.
This is crazy. I didn't realize how deep their history is. I'm blown away.
