I bought my first watch a few months ago. It is the "black" dial. It really is more of a charcoal or dark grey. It was hard for me to pull the trigger to buy my first automatic watch, much less one this expensive. I love the watch, and wear it every day. Such a great design.
I purchased this watch in blue in January 2020 after seeing your review. I have a more expensive/complicated chronograph watch but I find myself wearing this one most of the time. I have owned many watches over the years and I can honestly say this is my favourite! Thank you for your excellent reviews.
I really think this is the consummate version of the pointer date - the red date indicator and red winding rotor pair perfectly with this burgundy dial. Planning on buying on and throwing it on a matching burgundy NATO bc why not! Awesome video teddy
Bought this on steel and emailed an AD about getting the calf skin leather strap. I was quoted "just" $200. I purchased a 30 euro Hirsch nubuck strap that looks incredibly like the one in the video. I am absolutely in love with the watch. Stil in the honeymoon phase about 6 moths later. I'm starting to realise just how good it looks with sleeves after the summer days have cooled off! Excellent camera work btw Teddy.
Love these. I really wanted this one last year but couldn't find one at the time. I happened to walk into my local dealer the day after Boxing Day and they'd extended their Boxing Day sale by a day offering 26% off all watches. I'd already bought the bronze/green dial for my wife for Christmas, so asked to se what they had. They only had the blue dial and 40 mm bronze. Id never really liked the blue dial in pics but when I saw it in person I bought it on the spot. Such a different looking watch. I also happened to arrange the purchase of a Grand Seiko Snowflake at 26% off for my good friend. It had been his grail watch for a while and I knew he was planning to buy one in the coming weeks. He happened to be overseas on holidays so I messaged him and told him they had one left if he wanted it. 10 mins later I was walking out the door with two awesome pieces.
Ordered this from you and received it last week. Loving it so far. Changed the the straps to Barton brown canvas immediately. Only watch that brings old world charm with modern clean lines with this color combination. Great video
I have this watch 40mm blue dial bronze bezel and my only complaint is the strap. The leather came apart a couple months after purchasing. So buy a watch at Teddy’s website and before you check out grab a 2nd strap....
Amazing watch for the money: Good brand with good history, amazing design, interesting color choices, good movement, easy to get at a discount from an AD. You can't really go wrong with this and the burgundy dial is amazing. Oris makes good watches, and they are independent which makes it even more unique at this price point.
Hi Teddy, have you ever done a video entirely dedicated to the best hand-wound watches? I feel like that would be a cool topic for a video. If you have some time of course. Anyway, love your content. Much love from Des Moines, IA
What a dial color. Love Oris, super curious to see what they do with the in-house movement they are working on. Looks pretty beefy as it has bi directional winding, a ten year warranty , silicon parts, a 5 day power reserve, and a recommended 10 year service interval. Teddy, how do you think Oris watches featuring this will be priced? If they don’t increase their prices with this movement they are going to obliterate all competition n in their current price point
We will most likely see it in their divers and it looks like that is their intention and it will increase the price I am sure. I think if it is around 3k-4k I think they are sitting in a good spot. Very smart and big move by them. Warranty looks to be very competitive as well and will give more peace of mind. It will be interesting to see.
Thank you, Michael! Very excited to be able to offer them, love the brand. This one is just 40 mm but I wanted to speak to the different case sizes as I am sure there will be those out there trying to determine what is best.
New to the channel, this is a nice watch, Oris for the past 12 years has come a long way. The introduction of the new Aquis line, Diver Pro, DP Chrono, Pilot lines etc. I currently own just one, the Diver Pro 1000m in titanium a 49mm watch that wears much smaller. I have a 7.5" wrist but the watch is fine on smaller ones, I've seen it. Had the center bracelet links brushed as they were polished. Didn't like that and was ready to let it go, but then I brushed the links and that was it. I am looking for one more Oris as of few months now. The watch in the review is quite good however, the strap from 20mm going down to 16mm isn't the best for this case thickness along with the buckle that is quite standard, as it was already stated. Perhaps a better buckle would have increased the total production cost but in all honesty, the buyer wouldn't have an issue if the watch would priced few bucks more. There are loads of micro brands at a fraction of the price of this one that offer a more complete watch, why someone would have to pay nearly $2k and go through the hassle of finding another strap and perhaps a non branded buckle. The case is great, dial very legible, lug to lug height makes it suitable for larger that 6,5" wrists and the domed crystal is just amazing. Overall the watch is good but I would like at that price range and given there are so many other options, a better finishing. It's not just the case, strap and buckle are parts of the watch and complete it's appearance. I did appreciate at the start the wrist shot and the wrist size that was indicated, watching a watch review and knowing the wrist size in a wrist shot helps a lot. Thank you for the review.
Nice review. A very well done piece. I love the way it looks simple until you take the time to visually go over the detail Oris put into it. May be my next purchase. Thanks
Nice review. I recently found your channel and have enjoyed watching your videos. This is a great looking watch. Classic, stylish, and worth the price.
If I was head of Oris for a day, I would love to make this red dial in the 36mm size, but with an 18mm lug width (instead of the annoying 17mm on the 36mm currently) and give it a handwound movement to make great use out of that big crown
Oris on Teddy's website!? Yessssss! Do you recommend getting a bronze one? Bronze with a brown dial has been on my radar for a long time, but I am a bit concerned about patina
I've had an Aquis and this one has been on my list. One thing that I noticed is that the 40mm is always listed as a men's watch. But the 36mm is mainly listed as a ladies watch. It just seems kind of odd since there doesn't seem to any difference other than the size.
As far as the water resistance. I actually talked to a guy from Oris one time and he said they actually test their watches to the pressure rating it is rated for. Its not like the traditional 50 meters water resistant that you dont even think of washing your hands or being out in rain with it. Its actually 50 meters water resistant. I wouldn't swim with mine on but i wouldn't be upset if it got a little wet either.
Yeah this watch should have you covered especially with the screwdown crown. I think light swimming you would be okay but I typically like to have 100 m of water resistance in order to swim with a more expensive watch. I know some criticize that but I just don't like to imagine the sad day if a watch ever took on water.
@@TeddyBaldassarreReviews I hear you loud and clear. I think it should have been a 100m watch but im usually really easy on my watches. Most of my nicer more elegant pieces are what i call cold weather watches. Usually during the colder months i wear my dressier pieces. And in summer I'm wearing a dive watch pretty much every day
True. But that's true at any price point! If you don't want to buy from an AD you can always find them on ebay or something for a little cheaper if you take the gamble!
I agree there is a ton of competition in this price range. Brands like Sinn, Longines, Rado, Damasko, and tudor for a bit more, but I still think it is a great option especially considering its design and complication.
I had the blue version and sold it. Mistake. I loved the watch though I think it wears larger than 40mm but in a rush of blood to the head sold it when offered more than it cost.
Lovely review of a lovely watch - thanks Teddy! I only had wished to see in the review some strap options, especially as regards color. Red, even if dark, is not as versatile as black, grey, or even blue dialed watches. It’s still a really nice review with fantastic macro shots!
Biggest issue for me is the poor water resistance of only 50m. It seems like all the Swiss and German made pilot style watches I want only offer 50m. This is unacceptable for the price, and in my opinion, any price. I need to know that the watch on my wrist can handle whatever I throw at it. If a $200 Seiko or Orient can do 200m, what gives?
I am enjoying witnessing the evolution of your videos! I think the watch deserved a bare arm shot rather than that fleece - not the most flattering outfit for a watch shot. I suppose the idea is seasonal, however IN MY OPINION I'd pass on it. The 4 on the dial stands out to me, in a positive way - it's just so beautiful. I think it reminds me of a sign on the Short North in Columbus from my time there in 2016. Great video!
Dude, that is soooo cool that you carry this brand. I have the blue dial version and love this watch! PS would love to see a video on the new in-house movement from Oris once they announce what watches it will be put in.
Thank you my friend. We are very happy to be able to offer them. Oris is such a good fit and I love the product they make. Definitely have plans for covering their in-house movement.
@@TeddyBaldassarreReviews just out of curiosity, what were the 40mm watches that you ended up keeping? I typically only like dive or sports watches that big
This is a great watch and I've flirted with the idea of getting one several times. However, I can't shake the idea that the Seiko Alpinist, which posseses a similar look and feel, is a far better option. The Alpinist has the same classy looks, but carries a better movement, offering 50hrs of power reserve for the Sarb017, and 70hrs of power reserve for the new AlpineX models. The argument against the AlpineX was the compass, which made it sportier and less dressy. However, with the new baby AlpineX with the fume dial and no compass, that argument no longer holds true. Additionally, it comes in a smaller 38mm case. Lastly, the Alpinex in either configuration comes at substantially lower price point. So, you get more for your money. Much better value proposition.
This watch usually sells for around $1200 at other retailers so its much closer. The AlpinistX has a longer power reserve but in terms of case finish quality, movement finish and beat rate (which a lot of people care about as it leads to a smoother sweep), the SW201 is better IMO. And Seiko has had a few reliability issues with the 6R line. I got my OG alpinist for $300 and that was a great deal. At 7 to 800 for the new lines? Not so much. And the grainy fume dial on the baby alpinist just looks off to me. Personal tastes I suppose.
@@helloworldstein you're right it is a matter of personal preference. You clearly place more emphasis on a smoother sweep over a higher power reserve, while I place more importance on the latter over the former. As to which is the better movement, I acknowledge that Seiko previously had issues with the 6R15 line, but I've had no issues with the 6R35. SW movements aren't immune to issues as well. Seiko simply releases more watches and gets more coverage, such that there's more of a spotlight when it does have an issue. As to case finishing, I find the Seiko to be superior. The case on the Oris seems bland, if not for the fluted bezel, which I do enjoy. Some also find the pointer fate feature to be cleaner, but that's neither here not there to me. Again, it does come down to personal preference. And personally, I just can't justify the higher price point on the Oris.
This is a good review, but you seriously use way too many words to say what you’re trying to say. This video could be much briefer and much more effective
Hi PJ, thanks for the feedback. Moving into selling watches was something I thought about for well over a year and I found it was the best long-term solution for being able to do something I love for the longest time. The unfortunate reality is if you want to make a living and grow a business in this small niche that is watches you have two camps, become an advertiser by creating sponsored content or selling a product. I decided that going the route of selling was the better route as it makes my intentions clear and still lets me say what I want. This also gives me the leverage to never accept money from brands to make content as I think that is where the issues arose with players like HODINKEE. Living off the little amount ad revenue UA-cam provides and wanting to grow a team beyond me so I am not working 100 hours a week the rest of my life is ultimately a life I wanted. I also made this channel to separate any element of covering products I sell from the content on the main channel while always trying to list the positive and negatives of each piece at the end of videos here. I understand that this might have some pushback but I make my intentions clear and I have to do what is right by myself and my employees to allow us to continue to make content while growing as an individual. Feel free to send me an email if you would like to discuss this further: teddy@teddybaldassarre.com - thanks for stopping by.
@@TeddyBaldassarreReviews I think as long as you separate your typical reviews from your reviews of watches you're selling (as you have done with this new channel), it's totally fine. Reviewing watches while also selling watches isn't an issue as long as you communicate with your audience about it. Disclosures like that protects audiences and consumers so it's all gucci in my eye. I appreciate that you separated these onto another channel unlike some other hybrid reviewers/sellers
@@coled82595 Thanks for the feedback. Unlike other sellers too my name is associated with the brand. Sometimes I wish it wasn't, it just happened that way. But my reputation is everything to me as that is all I got. There are going to be points where watches I sell are on the main channel as well just given the fact they are brands that people want to hear about, but I think transparency is important and keeping yourself honest with negatives or things to consider are good. I would like to be able to do this for the next 20-30 years so my decisions are going to be made based on that timeline.
@@TeddyBaldassarreReviews I think that as long as you carry on with your frank and informative style, putting the review first, and the sale second, then your integrity will carry across well. I don't see an issue, as long as these still feel like TB videos - keep up the good work!
I somewhat agree as there sometimes are times where I think it could be made more clear that this is a brand you personally sell on your website. Other than that I think these videos are sufficiently neutral and professional as to give a informative buying desicion. Keep up the good work, I'll continue to support the channel!

This is a good review, but you seriously use way too many words to say what you’re trying to say. This video could be much briefer and much more effective
Nice... if you’re 13 years old girl.
What's wrong with 13 year old girls?
Don’t like how you have become a sales person more than a reviewer sorry.
