It's not the same as when she was young. Her hard life & smoking changed her voice a lot. Listen to her sing As Tears Go Bye when she was young. My favorite song of hers.
Check out her longtime collaborator and guitarist here, Barry Reynolds' only solo album "I Scare Myself" which has his version of Broken English. He also acted as producer for Grace Jones and Black Uhuru.
I met Marianne when she and Mick Jagger visited Frank Zappa at his log cabin in Laurel Canyon, Hollywood. They sat in the kitchen and discussed politics with Frank and his wife, Gail. Mick spoke and Marianne, not about to be out-done, spoke too, he spoke, she spoke, he spoke, she spoke, about politics, like a double act. Whereas, like most women in 1968, Frank's wife, Gail, sat in total silence while her husband held court. The contrast was remarkable.
Gail Zappa just sat there, I am surprised, even my mother was outspoken then! Marianne YOU MET MARIANNE FAITHFULL, Zappa, Jagger, of course too, BUT MARIANNE. Is she as beautiful or even more stunning in the flesh? I am one of her most devoted and sadly (oldest) fans! To naive, teeny-bopper, what a mess I was!!! she immediately captivated by her beauty- those lips, her voice of course, her dress, probably Mary Quant or Caroline Charles, maybe the program wherein the producer sat her on a throne. Oh and her NAME, my mother said "fake, stage name, don't be so gullible" ! Namaste, Z.
@@MSYNGWIE12 There are lots of interviews with Marianne on You Tube and she does comes across as very level-headed. At that time, that side of her was not so apparent. More she posed and put herself about, as I describe. And why would you be surprised by Gail's muteness. Frank Zappa was her husband and he was a traditional husband in some ways. On the rare occasions they socialised, she never spoke, Frank did.
@@paulinebutcherbird I married an Italian so I immediately assumed Frank would hold court. My husband loved Zappa & turned many on to him. My Italian didn’t suffer fools gladly & always said he looked because he liked what he saw when he met me & stayed because I had a brain. My husband was 16 years younger than Zappa & also died too young (56). I agree Marianne could hold her own, she was headed to either Oxford or Cambridge then Andrew Oldham discovered her age 17. Mick found her very smart & as she was well educated he learned much from her. I have heard Gail on Alice Cooper’s radio show a few times she’s damned bright, too.
@@kathypiazza7228 Interesting to hear your view. I am confused though by your comments about Gail on Alice Cooper's radio show. Do you have the link to those interviews? I have never heard them. I presume you speak of Gail Zappa?
Everytime I've seen Marianne Faithfull in conccert it has occurred to me that she unflinchingly bares her soul and it sounds like a warning. "Love goes crazy; given time", but there is hope within the framework of despair and not an ounce of self-pity. There is a sympathetic self-reliance in her demeanor.
Love to hear Buffys ❤️ Version also she is in My Most Favorite Female Singer and Artist category with You Marianne Faithful and Marie Chantel ❤️ 💖 Toupin ❤ .......
As musician and a mover of Art, those lyrics that streng I ,d loves to ser ver LOVE and Alive all times., I miss ya, se surffer a lot but the inteligente crazy ones we grown great.,LiVE...As good wine
Her pronunciation of guilt sounds like Gilt as in gold- in these times of abject greed among many it lends another dimension to the song, at least for me.
Stodgy ass people wouldn't even raise their voices for one second to sing with her. Shame on them because if I was there I would have been singing right along with her as loud as I could. And I hope that she sees this one day. Love you Mary Ann you've been one of my biggest biggest influences as a woman and a singer.
@Don X She won't have a clue as to your opening statement It's the total package here Marianne & one hell of a band. Oy Vey she's just lost . Maybe if she actually who Marianne was she would know what a fine singer she was as a young woman & even her bout's with addiction have taken them away along with her veracity for smoking they haven't stopped her from pulling all the stops out when she stands on that stage. Keep your American Idol ,none of them could even attempt to sing Sister morphine as she does. & can bet you one thing poor Gail here will have no clue as to the meaning of that song.
Im going to say it as it appears no one else will. This is terrible. She can no longer sing. Like so many other aging musicians, she more speaks the words than sings. Not worth listening to.
She is vastly underrated. Do yourself a favour and give the album "Broken English" a listen to, for me the best album of the 1970s! As for dylan his power was as a lyricist and I only liked two of his albums, both from the min 70s, "Planet waves" and "Blood on the Tracks"
"Give me, more, more, more, more, more, more, more, more, more, ...!" I love this woman!
I like this and downtown
Marianne is amazing. Full of grace. Saw her first Dublin 2013 then London 2016. Great concerts. And she’s an absolutely wonderful raconteur. 💕💕💕💕💕
Really enjoyed this a woman who's been to hell and back but now thriving in musical glory regretting nothing, rock on you heroine
A Diva a totally LEGENDARY Lady of Music. Fifty yrs Career and still going. Strong What. A Great Musical Legend 🍓🤠😎
Formidable enduring touching 😊
A most intriguing and interesting woman and musician. Very few, if any, like her....
Fascinating woman
Totally unique.......One of a kind voice....One of the greats!!!!!
It's not the same as when she was young. Her hard life & smoking changed her voice a lot. Listen to her sing As Tears Go Bye when she was young. My favorite song of hers.
Like her voice much more than the sweet, sugary voice.
Check out her longtime collaborator and guitarist here, Barry Reynolds' only solo album "I Scare Myself" which has his version of Broken English. He also acted as producer for Grace Jones and Black Uhuru.
Nice to know...thanks for the info!
It just doesn’t get any better than this…
Barry Reynolds. One my my musical heroes. Much underrated.

What a woman...
Die Ikone der Musik, einfach herrlich 😊
I do love this woman intellectual and artistic both ways...we got some close spitit/live !!!! And both still alive !!!!
❤Marianne Faithfull❤
As Tears Go By is such a lovely song. Glad she did it first. Thx to Mick n Keef.
It was an awesome treck to the summit of Mt. Everest, hence her performance is solid gold.Very theatric and reminiscent of the late Marlena Dietrick.
The first time I've seen her was in the movie clips of the The girl on the motorcycle with Alain Delon

She’s a wonderful interpreter of songs and collaborates with all the right people. Smart as F##k.
Super le concert de Marianne elle chante vraiment bien
At the age of seventeen I was driven through Paris in a Morgan that hot summer
Saludos Nestor.

Ido, did, will love Marianne, just the way you are, that I don, t know at all.🤫
Marianne Faithfull 's neue CD mit Nick Cave 😊 very good 😊
❤️❤️❤️
Eric Terino...Marianne Faithfull..gives up everthing that every normal person has to become Marianne Faithfull.
Can you post marianne's superb version of GUILT from SNL 1979?
Stodgy ass people wouldn't even raise their voices for one second to sing with her. Shame on them because if I was there I would have been singing right along with her as loud as I could. 🌊🍀🌞🌹
Eric you didn't ban me forever, did you? Marianne is frank, outspoken...sorry, please don't "ghost me" if that's the term. Namaste, Z.
Of course not, everything is good! :)
Still has that beautiful smile🌹
I think she wrote Guilt 😔 for me!
"new" fan
Never rated her as a singer, very interesting woman tho and the band are brilliant.
Este concierto es soberbio.
Terªn : " shes,s a starrr.,.). To Adrew Holdman, she was just 17 teen🤨🙄😏😒🤩😍🤫
oldham
Künstliche Intelligenz, wenn mitten im Song Werbung eingespielt wird, ich lach mich weg. Bei solch guter Musik schade
I think that the electronic music parts took away from her terrific, emotional vocals. So sad
i love her but i like the back up music more than her voice

Would be a blessing to the verse, for atonal softer inter voicings where she was w first album!
I agree.
Royal blew
Egg
I sing
Good grief let the past go already 😢
The audience is so uncool…

she has a really good band but she just cant sing--I loved her when I was young in the 60s but hey we get old
She's proto punk, singing voices don't have to be lilty and beautiful
She's Heaven 😇
i never thought i’d hear anything as bad as dylan but here it is, maybe worse!
Ouch.
She is vastly underrated. Do yourself a favour and give the album "Broken English" a listen to, for me the best album of the 1970s! As for dylan his power was as a lyricist and I only liked two of his albums, both from the min 70s, "Planet waves" and "Blood on the Tracks"
Te equivocaste de tipo de música. Con todo respeto busca algo a tu gusto.
MARIANNE is great &Dylan is out there at his best in years. Sorry you dont like SALTY singers .
Too bad, she's a great artist.
Smoking on stage??? Creepy! 🤢 never heard anything worse
