715hp BMW M2 v Manhart M3 Touring: DRAG RACE

It’s time for a Manhart drag race!
The Manhart team has gone to town on a BMW M3 Touring and a BMW M2, and Mat’s about to see how the two compare over the quarter mile!
So let’s take a closer look at each car. Starting with the M3 Touring, it’s usually powered by a 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six that produces 510hp and 650Nm of torque. However, it’s had several upgrades added to it, and as a result, it now puts down 650hp and 800Nm! This power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox, and the car weighs in at 1,865kg. If you want to pick up this exact car, it would set you back around £126,000!
Then we have the M2. The stock car has a 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six that can produce 460hp and 550Nm. However, just like the M3, it’s had several mods added to it, so it now creates an incredible 715hp and 850Nm! An 8-speed automatic gearbox sends this power to the rear wheels, and the car tips the scales at 1,725kg. It also comes with a pretty hefty price tag of £110,000.
So the M2 has more power and is lighter, but the power is only sent to the rear wheels! Will this prove decisive? There’s only one way to find out for sure… LET’S RACE!

Sending sam out of his car to look for the air intake was not nice of mat though. He knew he wouldn't find it but still humiliated him.

The tuning potential of modern BMWs is just absolutely bonkers. The fact that you can get a +200hp increase from stock by just an aftermarket intake and exhaust and an ECU remap is incredible. You don't even need to touch the engine or the turbos.
Doesn't that just show how throttled they are by design?
Or just maybe the internals are not quite strong enough to handle and maintain them pressures so you're better off rebuilding the whole thing with stronger materials, im sure companies are not deluded enough not to push their products to the absolute limits
@@Y_Preethey are easily strong enough on stock internals for 800bhp. The stock block limit is something outrageous like 1300bhp.
The issue is producing that much power under the emission limits

Matt should have put the M3 in rwd mode for the drag race, it would have been nice to see how things would have panned out! But great race all in all!

How the hell is a 2-seater only 100kg lighter than a 4WD family car?
The underlying platform is the same, same engine, and air isn't very heavy. The main weight difference is the 4WD system.
Both same platform, same drivetrain etc
M2 with heavier battery, heavier wheels (from stock)
i think the 96-2000 honda civic coupe is heavier than the 4 door, or like the same weight. coupes aren't as much lighter than 4 doors as you would think. I don't know why.
BMW weights don't make any sense. Like the new M5 being 130 kg heavier than their fully EV i5 M60.

Everyone is making some beautiful cars in 2024 but BMW is nailing it. The M3 estate and M2 are both in dream car territory. They both look like they want all the smoke!

Agreed. The M3 isn't good looking (I really don't like the look of most of this generation of BMW's anyway after the previous M4 being my dream car), but that M2 is criminally ugly.
Why does it bother me that the 1/4 mile camera is filming from the other side then usual?

200 extra horsepower and the Touring is still 0.1s slower than the 11.0 second stock M3/M4 Comp previously tested by Carwow? Didn’t realize it was that much heavier.

im sad we never got the s58 supra that was rumored. that would blow the doors off the m2 rwd cus its actually light in weight even though it has no awd.. for right now the m240i xdrive and g80 m3 xdrive are the fastest BMW for racing builds cus of awd. but the m2 is the best for driving cus its the lightest s58. but a supra s58 would change that.

I wish we got the M3 Estate in the US.
We used to get lots of wagons in the states and nobody but a few enthusiasts would buy them.
Yet BMW decided to sell the new M5 Tank, I mean Touring, in the US. I believe they’d have sold more M3 Tourings here than they will of the M5. I for one would have traded my F80 for the M3T.

I sat in the M3 touring at Goodwood and found that my wide butt did not fit very well in the seat! Also felt a bit claustrophobic coming from a 5 series touring. Lovely cars both of them. 💪

the snouty front and discoloured rectangular rear looking like rectal prolapse are gaudy in every way, so many concepts of its design are blown beyond their limit. I'd call it kitsch, but at least that would imply it to be naïvely happy, but no, it's just aggressively showy while failing at it (unlike some supercar marques like Lamborghini, Wector), despite their lineage of decidedly good looking cars over the past decades.
From the side profile the 2 halves are disproportional and it looks like 2 different cars grafted together, with completely nonsensical lines in the middle. But it is definitely less offensive than the front and the rear.
And Manhart took the tasteless showboating to the next level, they didn't add anything, they just inflated what was already overblown,
Compare the not produced E46 M3 Touring, truly look at the cars, take in their details, and think about it, and tell me that isn't simply better looking in every perceivable way. I will never knock the capabilities of these machines, but the styling of ALL new BMWs is an inconsistent disaster, each bad in different way.

There's no doubt the M3 touring would be a more practical and better daily, but I would choose the M2 as I have always liked them, even the new shape that took some getting used to.
I love the touring, but I still don't like the front. The front on the M2 is so much better!
