      I agree. I just build a 302 based 331 (technically 332 stroker, 0.030 over 3.25” stroke SBF. I haven’t tallied it up, but between machine work, hot tank, magnaflux, bore 30 over, torque plate hone, line hone, and a balance job on the Scat rotating assembly, Mahle pistons, new intake, new carb, new cam, new link bar lifters, new pushrods, new roller rockers, new blueprint cylinder heads, new billet distributor, new coil, and all the work on my part, that $7500.00 price tag seems a great deal. The 7.3 would be nice in my 1980 Bronco, but the motor I built is pretty quick and I really enjoyed the process.
      Anybody know how much they’re selling the transmission that bolts up to the 7.3?

      Having built a smallblock 87 Ranger I gotta say, prepare yourself for firewall and trans tunnel surgery, and possibly a rear mount radiator.. Let alone frame rail work, custom headers. Might as well go to a custom K member too. Then there's the rear suspension and putting that power to the ground successfully.. I do love my Rangers though. I'd love to see a 7.3 in a first gen like mine.

    • @christopheraugustine5816
      @christopheraugustine5816 3 роки тому

      @@Bird76Mojo76 It will be hard to say regarding the firewall and tunnel, it might fit there. The length is not bad, and the crate version is going to be offered with a power pack (ECU) calibrated for automatics or manuals, so one could pick a small(er) manual. I do not think there is any way it will fit height wise without cutting the hood on an early Ranger, and the TIB suspension may also pose a challenge. Then there is the steering shaft, or relocating the box. It will be pretty involved unless a person does not mind time with the plasma and cut off wheel and does not care to look stock.

    • @Bird76Mojo76
      @Bird76Mojo76 3 роки тому

      @@christopheraugustine5816 That's why I mentioned a custom k-member. Something for a Mustang would fit nicely. Still, I seriously doubt they'll be enough room in a 1st gen Ranger for this engine, even with a k-member. The engine bay in my 1st gen is actually more roomy than my 2001 Ranger. I'd almost put money down that the firewall will have to be cut out as well as the trans tunnel. The frame rails themselves will also pose a problem due to the width of this engine.

    • @christopheraugustine5816
      @christopheraugustine5816 3 роки тому

      @@Bird76Mojo76 UA-cam just deleted my comment due to poor design, so I am going to try to hammer out this response without losing my cool.
      These experiences come from a 425 Olds in a first generation Ranger.
      The Olds is 29" long (31" with pulleys), the Godzilla is claimed at 30.5".
      The Olds is 26.5" wide, the Godzilla is claimed at 27.5".
      The Olds is 24" tall (31" to the air cleaner), the Godzilla is claimed at 30".
      The Oldsmobile presented a problem with the headers and the steering linkage, so the box is going to be moved. Too many joints were required at too sharp of angles for nice steering feel. The headers also had to pass through the side to side support for the back of the TIB radius arms. The firewall was only a problem from one exhaust header tube that was placed high. The frame was also cut slightly for the headers to pass through. As you might have put together, custom headers would have alleviated almost all of the problems.
      I still think the Godzilla will be high because of the intake they use, that claimed height seems low. Also, the pan shape is very different, and that may or may not affect the way it fits with the chassis. Doing a different cradle would surely help. Fender well headers would probably solve a ton as well. If (when?) you do it, post a video of it!

      Nelson Braganza : The versiona of the factory EECIV 460 werent any better than 0.54 due to the restrictive4bbl based intake manifold. The best comparison is to the best of the big 97mm bore spacing V12 Mercedes Benz M120 5987 and 7291 cc engines. The 3 valve per cylinder 408 hp at 5200 600SE, and the stroked out Zonda made 555 hp at 5900 rpm. The quad cam 5986 cc CLK-GTR, 600 hp at 7000 rpm with a mandated Holley 500 cfm style twin 1.38 " restrictor plate. Those engines made class wining BSFC figures. I smile when I see M137, M275, M285 and ME 4-12 beating 850 hp figures coming out with just a factory Ford small block engine and head castings. I think youll find better than 0.48. Its got very little drag on that crank, low parasitc losses because its a V8, and high mechanical efficency because its OHV. And dont forget...Brian Wolfe oversaw the F9R Yates Roush NASAR engine development and team supprt, which is one the most efficient engines on earth, which was a custum engine which avoided racers having to perform 100 hours of machining work turning a Winsdor Cleveland plant rough machined block into a NASCAR winner. The Godzilla will be as good as the four bearing 3800-4100 Buick Series 2 V6, which had the best BSFC curve.

I did have the head off of one at our shop doing some warranty work on one. This engine looks amazing! We have head gasket issues on the the focus RS engine and the 2.3L eco boost. The machining is horrible on the block for an MLS gasket. The gasket never blew but would weep coolant and trigger a miss fire code. The machining on the 7.3L block and heads looked awesome. This is the only engine that I’ve been really hyped about in a like 20 yrs. the 6.2L looks really great but never really got traction.

      I am also curious if he takes an interest. The 385 might be ancient tech, but for the amount of displacement you can pull from one he may still prefer it. The bore centers on this are much smaller, in order to make the outer package fit everything. It makes it taller but narrow and short length. I am sure that he will mess with them, but when it comes to the extreme end I suspect he will stay with the massive bore of the old engine.

Understandable.. he is one of the first, spent for success. When and if I live long enough lol, if the bolt-ons and other parts come down due to competition and generous supply I will definitely do a build up with the 'Zilla'. Ford is going to have to get realistic on pricing considering the world is literally littered with 4.6 and 5.4 and 4.6 Teksid all with proven track records for making big power and surviving at those levels. Pricing is coming down steadily on that stuff and its rock solid performing stuff. Also , we are getting the weight with this slug in there that we wont get with lets say the Teksid .
    Your average guy can throw together a 1000HP 4.6 and still have the dollars to play afterwards.

      MichXJdad twin turbos would be better for this engine this big it would need a massive single turbo 110mm + and to get that big of a turbo up to temp would take a while you would also fight back pressure issues and lack of room to fit that big of a turbo it would make more sense to run 2 88mm turbos you will have less back pressure issues less lag way more Response from turbos and it still would be capable of flowing over 2000 hp + worth of airflow from the 2 turbos now if it was a 4 cyl or an inline 6 I would go single turbo so you have all the exhaust flow from all 4 or 6 cylinder helping spool the turbo faster with this engine being 3.65 Litres per cylinder bank with a total of 7.3l that a lot of displacement for 1 turbo

    • @NorthernPerformanceGroup
