Absolutely Massive! We Manage to Squeeze 460 Cubic Inches Into a Ford Windsor Small Block

- They always say, "There's no replacement for displacement," for a reason. Cubic inches make power. And big blocks make it easy to build big-inch engines -- but they can be heavy. Prestige Motorsports (www.prestigemoto.com) recently put together a plan to build an engine for a customer that wanted to squeeze a big block Ford 460 into a Fox Body Mustang. But instead of a heavy big block, they managed to squeeze 460 cubic inches into a 350 Windsor -- and make over 650 horsepower in the process! Here's how they did it.
Here's a link to the video of the 1,000 horsepower nitrous build with the twin throttle bodies that we tested in this video -- • Nitrous Guzzling Ford ...

You guys should have so many more subs, the content is stellar , you guys just bring great knowledge and attitude. It’s a great pleasure to view even when the build doesn’t pertain to my garage . This was a fun one guys . I leaned a lot as usual and a lot still goes over my pay grade but fascinating.. keep up the work hope the channels grows for yah
Did he use weatherstrip adhesive on the intake gaskets… 🤔? Does it work better than silicone?
There is a God!!! ❤❤❤
At 20:50 the original 460 did make more than 240 horsepower. It came stock with 365 horsepower and 485 ft lbs of torque in 1969 gradually dropping in following years.
It belongs in my 66 Mustang Fastback - top loader, and 9 inch. Damn son, Camaros would scatter at the sound of this Blue Oval Brute!
Aftermarket block and heads crank pistons, nothing came from Ford my friend, just the way you make a reliable ford engine
LMAO I’ll take a 454 over a 460 any day!!
World has been selling 454" SBC's for several years... and we take them out to 490-500"...
@@BuzzLOLOL Yeah, and Ford guys have been building out past 850cu
' engines for years... with aftermarket big blocks. But all this costs boatloads of money. Curious what this build cost... I'm sure it was well past 20 grand.
How about the 632 chevy that got beat by a 598 ford... by over 100 hp (chev had 102? Ford had over 1100)
This big inch Windsor would be pretty awesome in a 1970 Torino GT. Of course, when asked what's in it, you still reply it's got a 351 like it came with in 1970. 😏
I have a 71 gran torino sport. 351 Cleveland. But this is badasd
My first classic car was a 70 gt just a little 302 though
actually working on this with my 1970 torino gt (and EFI).. "it's still the 302 2bbl of course..."
I have a 70 Torino formal roof... 1 going for the Protouring look.
@@70_Torino_Guy that's the look I'm after with my 74 Ranchero. Proper stance. Bigger wheels, and tires. One day, bigger brakes. With the chosen Wiend intake, I can't get the air cleaner under the hood, so a shotgun style, butterfly flap scoop will be on there, on top of a 0.060 over 460. 😏
I would love to put that engine in my 64 comet. As it is now its only has its original 6 cyl. Talk about bringing it back to life.
That's a reincarnation as something completely different there.
I've been doing it wrong this whole time. All I'm missing is the money lol.
We saw SBC's taken out to 490" back 40 years ago...
Work hard dont have kids or a wife and spend your hard earned money on what you want its easy
@@gerryrogue7710 - Get a good decent hardworking wife... one of the opposite sex so you can also have kids...
@@BuzzLOLOL let me know when you find that i already have mine
@@gerryrogue7710 - Good... I always say every guy should own a woman at least once...
68-71 Ford 460 was rated at 365 horsepower and 490 ft/lbs of torque. Nice 351w based stroker. Would love to see that engine with a set of high ports, custom grind camshaft and 13.5:1 compression with a 1150 Dominator on it!!
Hi Brandon, I have one with blue thunder 3.6 heads, 12:1, solid roller with a little more duration and lift, single carb 4150, 800hp@6600, 650lb/ft
Somebody's got their wires crossed! 429 -460 Ford blocks are 385 series LIMA BIGblocks NOT small blocks and NOT Windsors ! They were Manufactured in LIMA OHIO !
@@Jerry-up8bk WTF are you talking about? this video is about a 351 Windsor block bored and stroked to 460
In Australia there has been many engine builder's getting 460 out of Windsors for the last 20 years the first one I saw had an offset ground 400 crank with 360 mopar rods and long skirt high pin blower pistons it was the first experimental that opened the flood gates👍🏻
Factory block or aftermarket? Would love 1 in my 66 mustang
That torque curve with the single TB is unreal! 😎👍🛠️🏁
It’s danm near flat
Yes Torque and horsepower were awesome with that. That high flat torque curve would be great for the street.
Try a Stroked FE, will surpass those Flat Lines with half the money.
I need this in my life...good thing Darts headquarters is a half hour drive from the house...this is a must in the future for my 94 Cobra...I'm already running good power with my current 351w based setup but this is icing on the cake right here!
Those are crazy numbers for an NA small block. Definitely put some egos in check in a light weight mustang. I would love to see the race gas/ e85 version of this engine, easily 730-740 hp.
It would be really cool to build a similar BB 460 with really nice cylinder heads, similar camshaft and similar compression and compare the two. Measure the difference in weight and the difference in performance.
Always remember the 385 series can go as big as 800 c i if you want a big inch engine. Also could be all aluminum block, cylinder head, water pump. Whatever you CAN afford. Speed costs, how fast you wanna go.
There shouldn't really be much of a difference in performance
@John Galt1469 you lost your mind bbf would shit on a 460 small block
@@j.e.d.8065 if you are talking a 460 cubic inch small block, versus a 460 inch big block, there will be minimal difference
@@j.e.d.8065 yep, just cause they both have 460ci it doesn't have anything to do with all the other variables. Piston speeds, head flow, intake flow etc. A 385 series I'd guess would out do it and not even break a sweat. Look at the intake port size on the windsor heads. A 385 head, even a c8,c9, or dove head is so much bigger. Let alone a cj head you can shove a tennis ball down. I'd bet a set of good Cleveland heads would work killer on the big inch small block.
I’ve been an aircraft jet engine mechanic for over 40 years. It is fantastic to see the level of detail you guys put into building car engines. You can always tell an amateur when they do not take the time to assure everything is clean and has a proper fit for longer engine life and no mistakes at high RPM’s.
The lobes on that cam tho! Damn near square! Love the build
What is the part number on the oil pan???
Yes when I saw those lobes. I was like Damm !!!
I have 4 candidates that would be perfect for this engine in each one of them!
1967 XR-7 Cougar
1972 Maverick Grabber
1972 Maverick 4 door "Sleeper"
1987 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe, with twin turbos of course!
I'll see your Grabber and raise you a 1972 Pinto with a 10 point cage and a 5 speed.... ;-)
What is the cost
Have drop the motor or/and run a scoop on the 67 cougar. Hood clearance is tight on those 67-68.
Love me a 67 cougar, also a fan of the 66 Galaxie myself. I'd stuff this in one of those bad boys.
Would be nice in my 70 Maverick with an original grabber spoiler. Has a race gas canfield headed 351w in it with a c6 and strange 9inch rearend with 5000 stall and 4.56 gears.
It's so satisfying watching the process of the die grinding matching up the Holley hi ram intake to the intake ports of the heads.
I noticed he wasn't wearing any hearing protection. Guy must be deeeef.
This video has been such an inspiration. I want to build this exact engine, just so I can drop it into a Fox Body mustang, and blow the doors off any stock Hellcat or Demon out there. Imagine them losing and seeing that you are only rocking a naturally asperated small block Ford with NO power adders. Id even keep the 5.0 badges on the fenders to leave them scratching their heads. Only experienced mechanics and machinists could visually identify a 351w from a 302.
You could easily crack 700hp with the clevor conversion using Aussie blue thunder heads. They flow more than the trick flows by a large margin. 400+ cfm
There is no intake that will bolt up to a set of Clevor heads that will flow enough to feed 460 inches. Those TFS heads are almost as good as the old Yates C3's and they are way better than those Aussie Clevor heads. The old C3's are not easy to find so I'm assuming that helps the choice to use the TFS. And I think the best heads for the small block ford may be the Kausse heads. I would like to see someone get a set of those on a Dart shp block and make it 408 or so .
I don't know where you got those numbers from. ? Clevor heads won't flow 400 cfm not never. And I'm not sure that combo will spin enough rpm to make 700hp a 410 or 427 will you will need 7400 to make 700 and I don't know if that 460 combo will spin that high???
@@forcedinduction5245 I believe the Higgins race heads however ARE a good upgrade from the truck flow however tit for tat both great heads to use
Y'all are funny. Mild forced induction and be done with it.
Wow...love the dyno numbers from this thing...NA and it's hitting over 650Hp...that's damn good power. Also a bonus of it being all motor...that power is always there.
And if they did the Cleveland that way, it would be a lot more power with 408 CI
Man that is a beautiful build...none of those wobbly stud mounted roller rocker!
There's a chef that says "yeah-ha boyyy", I keep hearing that in my head watching this build!
Tell you what, the new 7.3L (445CID) Ford V8 would have been another good option. But still early days for that platform.
eep up the informative and interesting content.
Guys are feverishly working on it for sure. They are putting down well over a thousand hp on those godzilla motors.
I live in Australia and I would love to put it in my 1979 XD falcon ute.
(pick up to you guys)
460 has 4.36 bore, not stroke. 3.85 stroke...
Love the undersquare characteristic vs oversquare on the 385 series. More volumetric efficiency must result!
Caught that too
Imo that's why a stock ford 460 is better than stock chevy 454. Fords shorter stroke equals more rpm before kaboom. And that's why the 4.36 x 3.59 stroke 429 is my favorite. Stock crank and rods can tickle high rpm without pieces on the ground..
Really like your channel. Interesting builds with straight forward info, without all the distractions....i.e loud music, slamming parts on a table, straining to be cool with macho dialogue, etc, etc, etc. Thanks!
Thanks for the kind words! And thanks for watching!
Slightly lowered and mini tubbed first gen Lightning. Finally giving that truck some power without the weight penalty of a big block or forced induction.
all aluminum 385 series engine is actually the same weight as this iron block/aluminum head small block
1968 Galaxy 500 2dr hardtop fastback. I had one when I was a kid and LOVED IT!!!
Brilliant work fellas!
I have had a 67 fast back in a few different configurations but this would make the 67 a street beast with something truly outstanding . Great job !
I’m impressed with every aspect of building this monster. I was planning to have a 351w or maybe a a 408 stroker on my 88 Lincoln Town Car, but this video brought me to the next level. I’m wondering how this engine would be awesome with a more streetable cam for a daily driver. Congratulations guys, your knowledge really impressed me.
I agree! I would be very interested in a street version of this motor, for everyday use and the occasional spirited driving. 380Nhp would be a helluva kick in the pants for a Crown Victoria!
almost got chills when it revved up
Wow man, look how thin that wall to wall clearance is...I'm really happy that y'all know what you're doing. Sorry, my screen is messed up, so I can't see much of what I'm typing...but this is a VERY impressive engine build.
Siamese bores so its plenty left
Another engine to make the average guy's mouth water thinking about having it in his/her favorite project! Thank you!
Sweet build, I'd love to see it in a 66 Fastback.... totally tricked out of course....!
460 in a Windsor small block. That. Is. INSANE. :D :D :D I WANT ONE! :D
SBC's go to 490"...
I want TWO
@@BuzzLOLOL NOPE there is no SBC in a stock dimension block that can go over 434. A SBF has 9.5 deck SBC is 9.025 with limit cam to rod clearance. A SBF can swing a 4.175 stroke with minor grinding. That stroke in a SBC is not going to happen without a $$$$$custom block. 1 SBF aftermarket block has 9.8 deck so you can build up to 500cu in.
Great looking monster. I like the fact that you men ran it with carbs, then with the fuel injected. Easy to see the difference on the screen. Love it, what a monster.
they were not carbs ,they were Throttle injection
Beautiful build. Well done. I absolutely love the detail you bring to us viewers. Perfectly explained.
it would work in my 73 bronco.
I’m currently putting a Ford z460 which is practically the same engine in my 65’ mustang coupe with a 250 shot of nitrous but running sniper stealth efi
I really hope you've taken traction into consideration...
Thanks Justin I have subframe connectors, x brace, and cage going in to stiffen chassis. Speedway 9” rear end with 3.55 gears, built 4 speed top loader trans, new wheels and tires as wide as I can fit without mini tubbing....... I will mini tub next round $$$$$👍🏻
For a minute there reading through these comments, I thought I was the only guy here that knew they were basically building a Z460 😂
I like Ford v8's, i like windsors, I like 460's ! I love this 460 Windsor! Awesome !😊 Cheers from New Zealand
Wow... someone putting an actual ford motor in a fox body instead of an LS for a change...
@Brock Main3 - All I can say is the LS is leaps and bounds ahead of the old tried and (mostly) true small blocks that began appearing in late 1954.
Parts are just cheaper. Wait for the hating to begin.
@@glennsambrana2919 people don’t think and hate. Obviously LS is a great balance of flow and cost. I just like seeing variety of brands/displacements/designe
I’m a big ford guy I don’t know why but it just bugs me for some reason that guys put Chevy motors in fords and or the other way around when guys put ford motors in Chevy vehicles I was just stating that I see a lot of fox bodies and other ford cars with an LS in it so it was kinda cool seeing someone sticking with ford power
@Brock Main3 naw dog, they're not good. Popular yes. But it's because they are cheap in all areas, cost, performance, quality. Just because you mass produce turds for X amount of years does not mean it's good. LS lovers need to try learning actual motor mechanics instead of an easy outdated performance. Sure 30yrs ago they were a thing. Now days there are way more engines and way better engines than any LS. You can get way more performance all around if you run a DOHC.
A 385 series Ford 460 has a 4.360" bore the stroke is 3.85".
I have a 2000 v6 Mustang that I'm planning to swap a Blueprint 410 into, but this, this would be absolutely amazing in the car with everything else I planned on doing.
All these guys did was basically build a Ford Racing/Ford Performance Z460
With a new 363 Windsor based stroker from Prestige in my GT40, I can't tell you how happy the workmanship in this video made me! Awesome video, thank you.
That's awesome! Sounds like a fun ride!
Luv the mention of even with the widening of the bore it still leaves plenty of cylinder wall room for a rebuild later!
I've been kicking around engine possibilities for 10 years since my last 408ci Windsor! 4v, 3v, 2v, and Stroked SBF, LS or SBC's, even 4 or 6 cylinder turbo combinations. FINALLY I've been shown what will reside between the strut towers of my 93 Cobra! I've got goosebumps!
Top flight filming and editing here. Thanks! It really makes watching fun.
Hey, thanks a lot! And thanks for watching!
Impressive numbers. Incredible engineering. Beautiful Engine.
Excellent presentation.
Awesome information.
Extremely Well done. 👍
I wish I could have one for my Z32.
Takes some deep pockets to build a motor like that .. Looks really good, and seemed to be street-able too with that smooth power curve .. Love seein' my blue oval distributor on the front of the motor builds . good stuff .
The 460 has a stroke of 3.85” and the bore is 4.360”. So this engine has a longer stroke than a 460 by 0.400”
Thank you. I was also going to comment on stated stroke, but found your comment first. You are 100% correct. The 385 series 460 has a stroke of 3.85", and a bore of 4.36". I'm glad I wasn't the only one paying attention.
Engine needed for 1989 XLT Bronco.
Due to the #6 rod wanting out for fresh air. Meanwhile, allowing the coolent to
Return to the wild.
I miss my Bronco.
Hate it when a rod takes a vacation!
Been there
Dang impressive for a 2 valve push rod motor, insane!
This is amazing and I love the attention to detail of the engine builder. Amazing power and torque numbers on a na engine. This would get me into serious trouble if I dropped it into my 89 LX 5.0 convertible!
Would drop it in my 2000 Ford Mustang to replace the stock v6 it came with.
Yes! Slip right into my ‘04 F150 STX.
Did my SB 460 almost 15yrs ago. World products block and the very first Scat 4.250 crank for a SB that they made.
Awesome build and great video! It’s nice to see a build detailed so well it could be replicated.
Really thought it was going to make more than that, thought it would crack 700 easy. My 427 with 225 afr and vic sr intake and carb makes 675hp and 580ftlb on pump gas.
Yes , I’d find it interesting to see the difference. I think carb will peak more than EFI , I also wonder if the flow on the TFS heads is same as your same size AFR heads , difference in camshaft timing etc and I almost wonder if even the 225 runner might be on the edge of being able to feed that many cubes . I’m Definitely Not saying I know it , but just a few things I thought of .
Cam. Cam.Cam.
I also thought with everything in that engine. It would be 700 to 750. Great built engine though. That torque curve on the street would be awesome.
I was expecting more hp as well. Not all that impressive considering the displacement.
I'd love to put that in my 1997 Ford Fairmont EL! (Aus)
I have a 1975 ford pinto run-about it's nice to dream you know thanks for the video,I'm in San Francisco and I'd drive around the globe
Fox body Mustang. 1981 Cobra or Mercury Capri RS. The owner has the right idea! Love the 4.38 bore spacing 9.5 deck with TFS Twisted Wedge 225s and its 1.46 L/R ratio and undersquare bore to stroke...dont hurt it none. WAY TO GO!
They really opened up those intake runners on the heads, with that slight taper design that produces more velocity.
Love to put that in my '79 F250 with 6in of lift on 35 in Mickey M/T I have that older 460 in it now bored 30 over with 750 holley on top. Said to be putting out around 450hp. Does the trick for the moment
I had a 79 F250 myself, school bus yellow with a 400 and a 4 spd. Would've loved a 460, bored and stroked to 557!
@@donellmuniz590 same color as mine. I've had it sitting for some years now. Had 4 kids. Truck had to sit. But now it's bout time to get her back out and get her going again. First truck I ever bought at 16 and now I'm 38. Had many other trucks come and go but could never let her go and had many people ask over the years.
The port matching was awesome! Thanks!
Thanks a lot! And thanks for watching
I got an F100 and a F250 that both need this! Great episode!!
A beautifully built SBF! A 521, 460 based BBF costs less to build. Although it is heavier and physically larger.
Might as well go 557 then, for the same money. 4.44 bore, 4.50 stroke.
All I was thinking was you could make that power.. cheaper with a bbf
Damn .... That's just nice ! Well done ! Love that flat assed torque curve -
Yeah its as flat as a table. A real stump puller.
I had a 351w, and was able to get 418ci stroker out of it plus with a nice choppy Comp Cam and all high performance I was getting about 550hp. Not to bad for a 69 block.
69-74 are the best factory 351w.I had a 74 out of a ltd and built it for torque, put 354 thousand HARD miles on it and it would not die.
Great Show guys……..l think this motor could go in anything. The front throttle set up had more port velocity then the top set up does making more power in my opinion
Awesome video guys. Love your content!! All the way from Australia
Thanks a lot! And thanks for watching!
I would love to see this in my mates 70 convertible Mustang, he's just woken out of a coma, love to see his car do the same.
Love this video
I hit like before i even begin because I already know its gonna be good and I always support good content.
Hey, much appreciated! And thanks for watching!

That's a SUPER SLEEPER BUILD!!!! Love IT!!!
Some years ago, Popular Hot Rodding built a tall deck Windsor using a Ford Racing al. Z351 block. It ended up with 454 cubes. It dynoed at 730 hp. It is still posted in two part video on UA-cam.
That's a lot of heavy metal to balance the crank. Awesome build!
I would love to see that engine in a maverick.

Yeah in a Maverick Grabber.
In Grabber Blue!
Cobra ii with a 9" and a t56
Gonna try similar 302based dart stroked to 347 iron eagle holley efi hi ram. Happy to get 500+torque and 550+ hp. For the 72maverick coupe. 🇦🇺
In front of a built reverse pattern AODE with a ratchet shifter and 4.11 gears in a 67 fastback. Electric steering and brakes, TCP/Global West suspension etc… I think the problem would be getting ALL of it to the ground. Would definitely be checking out other NA builds via the rear view mirror with that combo!!! Lol Not that I just mentioned my dream build or anything… $$$$$$$$$$
News flash, you stated the 385 series highest hp was 240 hp. That's not even close, a 69 Lincoln Mark 3 460 had 365 hp. And the 1970 429 was rated at 365 hp as well. The Scj engines were higher.
Your windsor stroker is awesome! Kent.
I want this in my 67 Fairlane
1963 Fairlane, 4 spd top loader.
This is why my engine purchase will be made with prestige motor sports
I think that would be awesome in a 65 coupe with a TKX behind it. Sweet motor, appreciate the attention to detail throughout out the build process.
Man that's a big engine!
A big engine in a small package.
Love me some Windsor.
I have always noticed when running carb style throttle bodies you always loose horsepower by running them open , can pick power by having a velocity stack it cleans up the airflow quite a bit .
Thought it would produce more but still very impressive. That engine would look great in my 1981 lifted bronco.
Front breather, rear sump - work great in a Camaro or Corvette
have a 1970 ford f100 that would be wicked in. the patina is awesome. it looks like and old farm truck the 390 is great but this would be wow
Thanks for producing this viedo and for an awesome build.
Really great video and an awesome engine! This would really wake up my factory 302 / 4-speed ‘77 Mustang II
Thanks!
My 97 T-Bird needs this setup.
Perfect for any Comet
Fantastic motor! Superbly engineered and assembled. One thing though... if you took the same budget for that Windsor, and applied it to a 385 platform, you could easily have 100 more bullet-proof cubes and more power across the curve. The Windsor's advantage comes down to weight and size.
I'm old so I've always been a 385 fan, 460 baby but 460 in a Windsor? Oh man!
Surprise, surprise on intake test. I thought the single throttle body would have more torque and hp at the lower end, below 5000 rpm. I was pleasantly surprised it out performed the twin throttle bodies top by a substantial margins. Great test. Just goes to see the dyno was a great de-liar. Test results and graphs tell the true tale.
Still love the push rod engines over the OHC types. Cheaper to build and nostalgic to boot. jmho.
Great vid. Very interesting. Subscribed.
I am not sure if the transaxle would handle it but that would be a great motor to stuff into a Pantera. Torque everywhere and it revs a bit too.
you guys are automotive surgeons of excellence
Thanks!
