    I flew for STAR Marianas back in 2008 when they were called TAGA.. overall I had a great time flying there.. however at that time, the pay was very low, Tinian is a tiny island with not much to do, most of your customers don't speak English, and it is a 24/7 operation, meaning you're flying at night between islands 6 miles apart with no safe areas to land in the event of an engine failure (unless you see the abandoned runways on Tinian, same ones B-29's took off from in WW2). The legs were 15 minutes long, so it was common to have days with 4 hours of flying and 16 landings. The mechanics were great and had a good relationship with the crew, however the manager running the show didn't care about weight and often would try to fill up every seat, even if it put you over MTOW. It was great seeing the historical sites and the occasional trip to Guam but I wouldn't do it again unless you really enjoyed relaxing on an island with no entertainment.

    Great info and presentation, thanks! I'm surprised something like this wasn't done at ATP (professional pilot program 2014). I'm instructing independently slogging along almost to 700 hours now :)

    • @prorobo
      @prorobo 7 років тому

      Cascade Alley Aviation Services so if you finished the program end of year 2014 and started working in 2015, you've accrued 450 hours over two years? That's not very good compared to ATP grads who stay with the company to instruct or find any other flying job to build time.

    • @duanepalmore38
      @duanepalmore38 6 років тому

      I went the ATP route but instruct for another school since June 2017. I’m at 590. A friend stayed with ATP since May of 2017, he’s at 1100. If the airlines are your target don’t forget about the importance of seniority.

  • @charliedagnesses2460
    @charliedagnesses2460 2 роки тому +1

    Tradewind Aviation is another option for people with around 500 hours looking to fly PC-12's. We fly all around the northeast and Caribbean (including st barths!!!) with scheduled AND on-demand charter operations.`Plus we have an approved Op Spec that allows FO's to log SIC time.... which you can't get away with at boutique.

    • @erictbridge493
      @erictbridge493 Рік тому

      U guys strict on 500 or do u take 250hr pilots?

  • @aviatorcrafty102
    @aviatorcrafty102 6 років тому +7

    Boutique air has 500 hours as preferred time, but the minimum is a commercial license w/instrument rating for FOs. But I would caution those as the position only pays like ~$22,000 a year and it looks like you'll be based in California and living there is expensive. But there is also a very little known option that most people don't know about. And that is to become a CFI sport, and the absolute beauty about this rating is that you need a minimum of a sport pilot/private pilot/recreational license and 150 hours to get it. So in theory you could build CFI time before you even get your instrument rating/commercial license, however it would probably be a "hobby" per say but there may be a small flight school out there who would hire you

    Obviously given this video is almost 5 years old at the time I right this (28/11/2022), and is pre-Covid, much has changed regarding the information presented. And given I’m an Australian CPL student, most of it is, or was irrelevant to me anyway. @@densonjose7085 At my 3rd class medical, can you explain why they told me they couldn't pass me if I couldn't read a certain line WITHOUT my glasses? I can understand with glasses but why without? Or should I try a different ame next time?

      @Elcamin0Zac right, and it is. But the requirement is "with or without" corrected to 20/40, why did they make me take off my glasses for even just part of the test and specifically told me when i had my glasses off, "I cannot pass you if you cannot resd this line"

    Hi as a beginner who just starting do you know of any potential jobs for pilots that are deaf and can't use the radio in ATC frequencies

    • @matthewjohnson2316
      @matthewjohnson2316 6 років тому

      Most likely not. At least in America, you need a second class medical minimum to exercise commercial pilot privileges. I'm not sure that there would be any way to get a second class medical if you are deaf, I know that a lot of people appeal it through AOPA and the like or get restricted medicals and such, but I think being deaf likely disqualifies you.

    How do the first officers log time since these airplanes are techincally single pilot certified? I knw some operators require 2 pilots on single pilot aircrafts but just wondering how the sic can leaglly log the time? Thank you

    • @Hondaridr58
      @Hondaridr58 6 років тому

      hesmail The operator and the FAA basically have a contract which states how the operations must be conducted (Ops Specs). So if that “contract” states that there are 2 pilots required, then the FO is able to log SIC because they are a required crew member.

      Just want to make sure I understand
      Even though the FAA classifies it as a single pilot operation the Company can deem it necessary for the flight to be a 2 pilot operation?

    • @Hondaridr58
      @Hondaridr58 6 років тому +1

      Brandon Wolfe No, operating single pilot would be an additional item to a 135 certificate. A basic 135 certificate is assuming there will be 2 pilots, so to have single pilot authorization, you'd have to apply for that specifically. But, different planes have different requirements for a given 135 certificate. Ameriflight is a good example. The Navajos are single pilot, but the EMB-120s and 1900's are a 2 man crew. However, I'm not an expert in this. I'm an experienced CFI, and that's my understanding of it. Would love confirmation from someone within a 135 operation to make sure.

    Working on my commercial at 52 right now and this seems like a longshot. The industry has sucked forever and the depression of 07 to 16 didn't help anyone. I still wonder what my chances are. Everything still seems geared towards flop houses and sleeping under the wing, including everything mentioned here. Rents and mortgages are in the $1800 range so not sure this is realistic for a responsible person. Any comments or ideas appreciated. Good info though.

    Avoid “Scare” America. Picto vendors are a great way to build time, is just steer clear of them and go to sky lens, land care, or any of the others.
