    We are not doing our house by ourselves. We have a contractor. But you are priceless to us as you are educating me as to what to expect and inspect. Without your teachings I would be unaware as to what is happening to our house. I am so grateful. If we were about 15 years younger, we would do this stuff ourselves, with you as our coach. I know this video is a little old but hopefully this gets a reply. We have a tile shower with the drain in the center, we are trying to convert it into a bathtub. We are currently on a concrete slab flooring and we're trying to avoid cutting into the slab. Can we reroute as shown in the video but to move the drain closer to the wall where your typical drain is in the tub. Is it possible raising the tub height high enough utilizing a "box with bracing" to relocate the drain?

    Hey Jeff, love your videos, I've gotten a lot of help from them on some drywall and HVAC fixes. I'm researching tackling finishing my basement, and I have a rough-in bathroom which is a bit intimidating. I'd love a deeper dive on this particular video, with the building a custom shower and everything, but looking through your videos on basements and bathrooms, I'm not seeing much else like this - lots of renovations, few situations with new builds from a rough-in. Is there a deep dive on this somewhere that I'm missing? If not, would love to see one from you to break this down the way that you have some of the other concerns in finishing a basement. Keep up the great work!

    Is there any reason to tear down a mobile home and build a stick house?

    I have a washroom on first floor which shares a wall with my neighbor. I want to replace the builder grade walk-in shower to a glass shower. The problem is currently the shower is on the opposite side is the shared wall. When I plan to replace with a glace shower I have to move the shower to the shared wall.
    The question is can I open the dry wall of the shared wall to reroute the pipes? Any advice is appreciated.

    I’m pretty sure It’s really important to give the ABS a twist when gluing together. I thought you just couldn’t push-fit them together, because the twist actually does something to make them one on a molecular level. But take what I say with a grain of salt, because I’m not a plumber I just worked with a neighbour onetime.
    But this was an excellent video! The fact that you did not have to break the concrete, in order to install a shower in the basement is pretty cool. I wonder if there’s a way to do that for toilet too?

    What is the white box base you used for your shower. Is it just styrofoam?

    I have re-installed green board around the tub, and purchased a glue-on tub surround... I just rolled on redguard - but now I dont know which adhesive will work with redguard and the polystyrene( i think) - and it has to be trowel-able... according to instructions. (And we don't have loctite in Canada?) I'm in BC> thank you!

    Hey Jeff, congrats on 1 Million subs! Question: was that "sand mix" the same 4:1 mix used to make the dry mortar for a shower bed? And you just wetted it down more? thanks!

    Greetings from down the road in Kingston, Jeff! Have you done any videos, or have any experience regarding building a basement bathroom where the drain pipe goes through the wall and not the floor? I guess the options are Saniflo toilet or sewage ejector. I have limestone beneath the slab, so that would make ejector more of a challenge, but not impossible. Any advice appreciated

    Thanks Jeff,
    I am about to do a basement shower in Ajax and this approach would be great. Too bad you're not filming here.
    Question: Are there similar options to offset a toilet from the rough in? My rough in is too close to the shower.

    • @HomeRenoVisionDIY
      @HomeRenoVisionDIY  4 роки тому

      only about 1" . you could always use the saniflo toilet and set it anywhere.

    Does the shower drain pipe need a gooseneck joint to prevent sewer gases and what about the vent pipe?

    • @HomeRenoVisionDIY
      @HomeRenoVisionDIY  4 роки тому +1

      When the builder does the rough in the P trap is already present under the slab and the vent pipe is already connected as well. Cheers!

    Looks like you didn't check for the slope in the shower drain once it was installed. You probably did by eye, but for us less experienced that could be an important step. Also if the wall is accidentally punctured during the sand mix step is it a good idea to put a screw in that you used earlier on the wall or it is unnecessary as it will be covered by an other sheet of material later?

    • @HomeRenoVisionDIY
      @HomeRenoVisionDIY  4 роки тому +1

      if you cut the pipe coming out of the floor at 3/4" and you set the flange on top of the styrofoam it will automatically give you a perfect slope. Cheers!
