Being in Canada and still buried under a few feet of snow, it was probably a bit soon for UA-cam to serve this up in my feed but I will take it as a sign of hope that the end of winter is coming. I had the best lawn in the neighborhood following your tips last year and look forward to duplicating that success this year!
Great to hear 💚💚💚
I’m in Oregon which I have always though was on par with Ireland or a Scotland 😂 but we get soooo much rain! My issue is everything is covered in moss. You can cook it and it will come right back. I’ve redone my entire lawn and I can never completely get rid of the moss because once the summer comes and the grass goes dormant and dies off especially with crazy heat waves the moss is super happy to fill that spot come winter!
I’ve just don’t have the financial ability to invest in tons of products so I’m doing my best with what I have!
Moss comes and goes, you can't really stop it. Mother nature always finds a way. My channel focuses on how to get a good lawn without spending a fortune.
Sup Robbie!
Hows winter treatin ya?? Cant wait to get back in the lawn!
Do you guys get much snow?
@@Premier_lawns_official yes, historically we get a ton of snow although this year it has been relatively snow free. Unfortunately it’s constantly been below freezing 😞
@@PrincessCutLawnCare we get very mild weather here in Northern Ireland, I'm beside the coast, so although we do get frosts... It's not super freezing
Another excellent video. Your advice over the past couple of years has turned my harsh looking lawn, with loads of weed grass, to one that looks beautifully green and fine and has received compliments from my neighbours and family. The very first scarify, seed and top soil was a nervous time during a particularly cold Spring, with patience it paid off amazingly. Many thanks and wishing you all the best.
Glad to help, thanks for the wonderful feedback 😊
Possibly the most useful information I've had in AGES!!
Thanks 🙂
Glad it was helpful!
Thank Robbie always a thumbs up from me, all your knowledge is priceless and much appreciated. Hope you have a great year. I’ll be watching👍
Good man, happy new year to you too 👍😁
Great Vid. Good to see the red.
Hope your business and health are well.
Thanks for stopping by, happy new year Patrick 🙂
Any tips for nutsedge? or nutgrass in the winter? Love the channel, the videos and the hard work! Thank you!
I'm not familiar with nutgrass, we don't get that in the UK
@@Premier_lawns_official I'm in the UK - it's also known as nutsedge. I'm sure you've come across it?
happy new year Robbie, thanks for all of the tips through the months.. unrelated, and I apologize, but what are you saying when you start your videos?
Bran, what about you. It is a greeting we use in Belfast Northern Ireland to say hello 😁
Happy new year to you too 👍
Great stuff. Happy new year Robbie. I was curiously amused when you moved in closer to the camera just as you said the word “thatch”. Sorry about that.
I used to be scared of the camera! Not so much now. Happy new year to you too
All the best for the new year, the studio looks good. I have lawn sand which I bought through your link after you did a video on it. My question is when should I spread that on the lawn? Thanks.
Paul, it's a little early yet for the lawn sand. March is perfect to use it, it will help waken up your lawn and get it off to a good start
The one little detail you didn't mention with iron.....if I use a liquid I will buy a cheap as spray bottle as the iron will damage all of the seals really quickly...so to use an expensive bottle is throwing your money away.,..if you use the granular, make sure you don't get it on your outdoor stone work...it will stain your stone with spots of rust if left on the stone and then gets wet.....There are some product that will clean off the rust stains but is very expensive...and you can't use products like CRC....
All great points, I did cover a lot of that, then edited it out. Opps
Happy New year Robbie to you and your gardening team!! Forked my front lawn today and sprayed with Pro-Kleen iron sulphur.
Perfect 👌
Should we go with the iron sulphate an some liquid seaweed then next month a light scarify or leave sorry I'm tryna get the right process to these green lawns u have mate lol
I tend to do two good doses of iron over the winter, one before Christmas and then another in Jan, I would also use some seaweed too, then in March the lawn sand goes on. Over the rest of the year I don't use much iron
Thanks for that mate. I'm trying lol. Cheers
Love the new studio! Really smart and the video quality is looking excellent 👌🏻 happy new year Bertie 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you! You too!
The front lawn, it's beside a busy road. During covid it was great to film at, these days I'm half way through a sentence and a lorry goes flying by at 60 MPH....
Happy New Year Robbie great info again here. Damien from Cork City✌️
What about you lad, happy new year 😁👍
Thanks Sean, always love your videos, so intuitive, have a great year.
Glad you like them and happy new year too!
@@Premier_lawns_official you’re too polite to correct him 😅
I won't be cutting my grass at the moment. It's two inches underwater. Something to sort out this summer.
We have had a very wet spell recently
Sorry to be a pain. I've missed my regular maintenance schedule with my little lawn for the last couple of years. Sadly, my dog passed away unexpectedly then mum fell ill and passed so I struggled to keep up with it, but your great videos have got me back on it 👍
I've gradually brought the height down to 30mm to see where the bare patches are. I was thinking of waiting for late February to seed them, top dress, then add a garden fleece to lock in the temps. What are your thoughts? For reference I have a rolawn lawn and mainly use their top dressing etc
Really appreciate your feedback 🙏
Sounds like you have had a tough time 😞
February is a little early to be seeding, this video should help you ua-cam.com/video/u8GemeCWZwA/v-deo.html
Good stuff as always Robbie, happy new year 🥃
Thanks bidders 👍😁 Happy new year to you too
Happy new year Robbie, great advice as always 👍🏾 I'm looking to push the lawn care side of the business a lot more this year
You should 👍😁
Love your videos ,great info.
Could you tell me where i could buy a lawn spreader with a side deflector.
They are kind of pricey. It's called an SR2000
Great video Robbie. Happy new year to you and your team.
Thanks 🙏🙏 this is the year we both grow our channels 😁
Spot on Robbie......I've put iron and seaweed on couple of weeks ago and I'll bang some on tomorrow 👌 👍. Can't wait for spring tho......still battling those leather jackets. Going to treat with nematodes spring and autumn which will be the 4th treatment counting last year. All for the sake of grass !!!! 👍
Nematodes are very hit and miss, have you tried using a black sheet and sheet and sweeping them up
@Premier_lawns_official thought about it but not tried it yet. Do I put it on over night then sweep them up in the morning?
@@richardgould1978 Do it when the turf is drenched and soaking wet and use black plastic that is thick enough to block the light. In the morning the buggers will still be on the surface because they don't know it is morning.
@@wayneessar7489 thank you 😊 🙏
Perfect answer 👏👏👏
Great video Robbie , would that rate you use over in the UK be the same rate for Ireland ? Cheers
Why would it be any different?
Love the studio
Thanks!!
Great video, question how often should you apply iron to your lawn in winter season?
It depends, some people do it once a month. I apply iron around 3 times...
Thank you for this video, I keep off the lawn this time of year as so wet, happy new year to you and your family and all your followers 👍
Happy new year Anthony
Thanks for the video, 🥰🥰 I am just a learner ,at 75
Never too old to learn 👍
Great vid, question, when to apply pre emergence weed killer?
Not sure as it's not allowed in the UK, you must be in the USA?
What's your thoughts on lawn sand, if people have a decent rotary spreader but don't have a backpack sprayer? I can do soluble iron with a watering can but with 500sqm it takes nearly a day!
I would invest in a sprayer as it will give you more options.
However lawn sand is fantastic to use in the spring or autumn, I use it every March.
ua-cam.com/video/QFb7jzM75yQ/v-deo.html
Can I use organic liquid seaweed across my lawn now to help it at all? Will it green it up a bit? It's a bit yellow atm. Don't wanna put the wrong thing down.
Seaweed isn't used to green up a lawn, seaweed improves the soil. You should give the iron a go
What about if your lawn has got a bit too long and the highest setting will take off more than 1/3?
If you have to take more off, then so be it. Just don't do it on a regular basis
Thanks for this!👍🏻 I’ve seen another video where they add washing up liquid in with their iron sulphate/water mix to help the iron get into the soil. Is this something that works?
Washing up liquid is a detergent and will damage your soil
Keep it on your kitchen board
@@Premier_lawns_official Will do!👍🏻
So what do you do if you have inherited a lawn that is super overgrown and needs to be reduced by about 3/4 of it's length?
I can think of something worse… Let your 10yo son ride his motocross bike around your lawn as the field is already far too muddy 😂😂
Hahaha yep that would be on that list too!
💪
Do you ever roll your lawn? I have a rather large and uneven lawn in places and was considering rolling it but am a little afraid of impaction and causing more problems than it’s worth.
Compaction is on of the biggest problems most lawns have, you would be better filling in the worst areas, ths is the video for you ua-cam.com/video/3xzVmX4-STA/v-deo.html
My lawn is really bad with moss. If I apply some iron now will it be ok leaving the scarifying until early March? I take it I would need to over seed after?
Hard to say about the over seeding. Though that will always help. The iron will help keep the bay in the meantime
do you ever have to deal with mole hills in the lawn and how?
Move to Ireland, we don't have any here
nice one big thanks
No problem 👍
In the winter cold do not let sit your batt mower 1/3 charged. Oh wait 1/3 cut & winter NPK lawn care not tool care!… my bad! 😂
👍👍👍
Ian Paisley returns as a lawn care expert... who'd have thought 🤔...
Big Ian lol
No Surrender to perennial weeds...lol
@@williamsmith8097 I know you are probably saying that in jest but it's not really appropriate to be honest. This is a lawn care channel
We don't do colour coded laughter on this channel
Sorry ,no offence.... only in jest...I'm against any sectarianism myself...
@@williamsmith8097 no worries, not every one gets our Norn iron sense of humour
How often should you apply iron Robbie?
That will depend on what you are trying to achieve. Two or three doses over the winter and into the spring is a great way to stay on top of the moss
Thanks
Thank you for your support 😊🙏
Just alittle tip aswell if your spraying with iron ..be careful where you walk after treatment iron can stain slabs decking and can transfer on to fabrics and dye them and if your using granule iron the dust/powder taste’s horrible ! Like copper penny’s in your mouth 🤮
Great tips thank you 🙂
Hi Robbie HNY, great to see you back. At the moment i am battling with leaves, and the post xmas weight lol. Thanks again for the time , and my application was sent to you ages ago.
Daniel left, so I have an opening!
@@Premier_lawns_official can i travel from Liverpool !!
@@davel831 you certainly can!
I’ve found iron does nothing to my lawn, still yellowed.
My Facebook group should be able to help you with that
Common sense video thanks
👍👍 thanks
Help / question: I have only just started out and need to quote a 400sqm lawn to be scarified, is there a going rate to work out the cost per sqm? I was thinking in the region of £200
How did you get that figure?
Just taking into account time that would be needed to do several passes and waste removal. Too high?
Do you own all the tools needed, scarifier, blower etc or are you hiring tools
@@Premier_lawns_official got all tools apart from aerator that will be cost £45 for a days hire
It depends, if you are happy with that price you will get plenty of work as it's on the cheaper end of the scale. Though you will be leaving money on the table that could otherwise be in your pocket
Leave the winter lawn alone I do.
If it's there and not under snow, why not give it a bit of TLC and get some enjoyment out of it
So bang some Iron on now ?
@@nilsclash yes 100 perecent
I'm first
👍👍👍
Hi, my grass has overgrown this winter
My highest cut setting on my mower will take off more than ⅓
Do I still do it?
No
It's ok to break the one third rule if you must. We all go on holidays, the weather doesn't alway play ball ect. Think of it as something to try and stick too and your lawn will thank you for it. If you do this one small thing and don't do anything else your lawn will get better and better and guess what, it's FREE
I cant understand a word
