I use my lawnmower to vacuum up the cut grass. Works every time. Make sure you cut the lawn first, then use the dethatcher, then again the lawnmower at the same height, perfect vacuum. I use a dual battery greenworks mower, love it.
If you use organic fertilizer and soil biostimulants/amendments , plus a liquid dethatcher to break down thatch naturally and turn it into food , water properly and mow properly you don’t need to use a machine to do it. It’s really not necessary. That just is a symptom of lawn practices that you need to change.
@@stephenlandry9061 I have use all of that stuff minus a liquid dethatcher in the past, mow 3x/week and this was result. Started using liquid dethatcher this season, we’ll see if it makes that much of a difference. I don’t believe it will.
Possible causes of the splotchy color can be due to your blended mix and/or the granular fertilizer not spreading evenly. Try a liquid fert or throw more down.
Utah. What did you pay for your house? 1 million? I live in Centerville. New subdivision going up close to me and the cheapest house is 1 million. WTH?
You're only supposed to dethatch your lawn whenever it needs it. You don't necessarily have to dethatch your lawn every year. Dethatching and scarifying puts a lot of stress on the lawn to the point of damaging it if the grass is being overworked. If it's not broken, don't fix it! Leave it alone because you're only doing your lawn more harm than good.
@@HomegrownHowTo my daughter likes to be Princess Daisy. Also, good tip to have your daughter help out is to buy her a squirt gun to water flowers. It just gives them something to do while being out with you. I did that for my daughter when she was younger and she now helps me outside. It’s a fun way of being productive.
I used some seed from a local source with my KBG that isn’t available online. But I’ve seen really good results with Barenbrug seed that some friends and family have used.
Can I ask which part of Utah? I'm a bit south of the city with lots of Cougars. My yard needs a lot of work. I've been looking at dethatching, but I also really need to level the lawn (up to a few inches in some places) and fix some dead spots. Is there an order of operations you'd recommend? Thank you so much for doing these videos!
Yeah I’m just out of Salt Lake County, in North Utah County. Too many Cougars 😂. But yeah I would recommend dethatching then leveling. You can overseed if your lawn is really patchy, but if it’s just a few spots then just seed those bare spots. Hope that helps.
@HomegrownHowTo Your Lawn looks amazing. I bought a sunjoe two years ago. I haven't had to use it due to my thatch not being bad. This year after aereating and looking at the cores, I have a little more than usual. I'm going to give it a shot, and if it's too thin after I'll throw down some seed on top. Thank you!
@@paulmaestas8709 mines a PRG and KBG mix. I love KBG but Barenbug now has a Regenerative PRG that spreads similar to KBG. I love that stuff. I’ll be seeding with that this fall. Did my bros house last fall and his lawn is poppin’ off.

Thanks! I actually switched to liquid fertilizer this year and has helped improve the color overall!

When overseeding hiw much grass should you use, so you dont have too much grass?
That definitely depends. When you buy a bag of seed it will have rates for seeding (completely bare dirt) and rates for Overseeding.
I do 4lbs per 1000 sqft
Measure your area and do LxW and that’s your sqft number
@@lordad30 What type of grass seed though? Kentucky is much smaller than fescue seeds for example.

cut lower 2-3" when thatching
What was the mistake?

Did you use the rake like dethatcher or the scarifer tool on the bottom in this video?
This time it was the dethatcher attachment
