Great, clear and easy to understand.... Just done timing on my Perkins Prima using this method after a rebuild. The workshop book does recommend slackening the pipes on the rear of pump though to avoid straining joints on pump etc. Cheers, Steve.
Thanks a lot. Ive had a vollswagen diesel for three years now. Watched many crappy videos on how to. But your video was very comprehensible. Thank you again.
Great, my engine is a IVECO for a Newholland backhoe, i solve a white smoke and hard cold start with this method, but i just did it with no tools, just rotate it until it stop smoking. i will have to check valves and timing later, injectors are brand new.
I went from a factory ve pump on my 91 cummins diesel to a ve205 copy and it was 180 off from factory i put it in exactly the same way the factory pump was in and it wouldn't even think about starting!
For those attempting to perform this task on the Mitsubishi 4M40 engine, it is written on the FSM to NEVER turn the engine anti-clockwise as this may damage chain tensioner.
I know it seems pretty obvious but you forgot to say to tighten the injector pump bolts after checking it because it could move again while removing the timing tool and tightening the center bolt.
Hi mate great Video Just want to confirm the spec measurements. For eg: if it’s between 1.03 to 1.09, is the 1 the preload setting u need to have the dial indicator on before achieving the fine adjustment of for eg .09. Cheers please help cheers
What a great and helpful video, thanks!!! I just wish I could find the correct timing value for my 1984 model Ford Transit with a 2.4 York diesel engine in it. I have several different manuals (including the workshop manual) for the car but the Bosch pump timing value is not mentioned in any of those! :(
i book marked this web site if im driving around Wagga Wagga and get this tuned one day what will it cost me. I travel but i get to wagga sometimes as my fav spot
Where can I get one of those timing adapters? I've been installing the dial in the end of the pump. Would be good if I didn't have to take lines off to do so
I've got diesel dripping from the top of my 1HZ stock diesel fuel pump. I have to pump the diesel up each morning to start, i did the old starter motor. The dripping itself seemed to just stop itself and or slowed to next to nothing. But i did put two bolts in tight in those two square lungs you can see at the top of the fuel pump. I think nothing now. I was told to put a none return valve it didnl;t stop it still had to pump the fule filter to start it. I also cleaned the fuel cap at the diesel tank it seemed bit blocked. Bit puzzled as to whats still going on... must be still getting a bit of air in over night and able to run the diesel back down from the lines. Is there a washer that can cause this above under the 'T' excelerator arm?
You could try replacing the rubber fuel hoses going to/from your injector pump. You might have a leak in one of them. It's a cheap fix to try. You might have a knackered seal in the pump itself. They do get worn and need replacing as they get older. I've never attempted it (yet) but I've seen a couple of youtube videos of folks replacing the seals in the 1KZ-TE injector pumps. Looks pretty doable for the DIYer if you're clean and methodical about it. Good luck!
@@1samwhich Turns out i put 6ltrs of AdBlue (urea & water) in the diesel fuel tank at the bowser by mistake and blow the entire pump up. So it's in the workshop getting a new reconditioned fuel pump, injectors, glow plugs and a timing chain, radiator flush and hoses while they are at it. 6k considering a 14$AUD mistake. Ouch!!!
Okay well I drive a 90 cummins same Bosch ve pump and I took it to a shop because I don’t have a timing gauge and that curved wrench...they only can find a pump for 1500 I found one for 650 (remanufactured) is there any anything you can tell me about the gears If any oil is needed or tips
Fizzy Dizzy generally you can move the pump a bit and it won't make much of a difference at all , check that the pump is delivering fuel you may need to bleed it to remove air
I got 6415 John Deere I believe standyne pump electricity controled no fuel will pass i here fuel solenoid or the pump or ecu communication maybe not getting proper power did have some electric issues with wires look like crap cracked definitely running off the name not quality like I’ve seen
This diesel technician just committed a bad mistake! He gave the correct timing specs for the 1HZ (1.03-1.06mm) but then timed the pump to 0.3-0.09mm! Bad technician!
Best timing video I have found yet

Steve, did you manage to source new piston rings okay? It is the one thing holding up my prima rebuild.
Hey, do you know the specification for the pump on the prima engine?
great instructional video, thanks for taking the time to clearly describe and film the procedure!
This video was great, used it to time my old diesel bmw. No other videos explained it as well as this

best video ever :) you have helped many of us on the otherside of the world who have these engine!!!!
whats the spec if you have removed your ACSD on a 1991 HDJ81 1hd-t ???
This video explained everything really well.
You did not mention anything about putting a 9mm spacer in between the cold start lever that they show in the Toyota manual, is that really necessary.

So ...what happens if the car / truck rolls in gear backwards not running?
@@MrLunithyIt's common practice to leave a manual car in gear (with parking brake) when parked on a hill. The car will not roll.
@@branchgaa Yeah that sound good in theory.
@@MrLunithy Same thing happens.

Excellent video! This seems really easy with the right tools.
clear explanations but include before the end that must tight the nuts of the pump, before to check again the position of the plunger.

Read the comment above yours. The gauge has already turned one full revolution.
Would be great if it wasn't for all that loud unnecessary music preventing me from hearing what this guys is saying?! 👎
