Kuat Drive Yards and Sienar Fleet Systems are basically the Boeing and Lockheed of the Star Wars universe. Two big aerospace manufacturers that continuously receive contracts and funding from the government.
No Boeing and airbus
And just like Boeing, KDY just kind of pumped out bad, expensive ships because they knew the Empire would buy them.
@@saxreaper Airbus is in a different country from the other two, so it would be more comparable to Correlian Engineering Corporation or Rendili StarDrive.

@@InventorZahran I agree, but Airbus is not located in a particular country, its a European Corporation, with the main shareholders being France, Germany and Spain.
Honestly I really like that the prototype has significant differences like the super laser from the original ,logistical concerns for the rebellion would absolutely affect designs and change features and lead to them being removed from the core concept.
I hadn't realized the Verpine were made Canon again. That's awesome. Their slugthrowers are incredible!
The B-Wing is like the A-10, it doesn't need bombs/missiles to deliver massive damage since it's guns is more than powerful enough to do the job
and the alliance bomber is some kids paper airplane with c4 slapped onto it

The A-10 actually lugs huge amounts of bomb and missile weight for its size, that's one of it's main purposes, but yeah the BRRRRT is OP.
@@fsdhuy Z-95 Headhunter? Those were 150-year old fighters with the only good feature: they were as reliable and as common as Willys MB, with fully interchangeable aftermarket parts and mods, loved by mercenaries.

The mass production of the B wing saw the loss of the composite beam but still an impressive fighter without the fleet killer weapon.
The Rebel's math was wrong. Surely the cost of a single pilot fighter, even the most expensive one, that can one shot cruisers is insignificant compared to the cost of a fleet of fighters that struggle to do the same. Quick victories mean less fuel, less repairs and parts, less replacements costs and less pilots lost. Star wars writers never get it right.
@@MrBottlecapBill the laser beam can't 1 shot all cruisers... It targeted a light cruiser... And it never even instantly destroyed it... Based on this logic, a star destroyer with heavier shields and a bigger superstructure would only at best lose its shield and sustain little damage...
@nathaniel gray yes but not worth the cost to produce and it didn't have the survivability... It was vulnerable to capital ship lasers
@@markgeorge2200 let's be honest rebels destroyed alot of balance in lore, the entire things Is a mary sue or Gary stu fighter if, we need a muguffin here it is, it physically hurts that they introduced this at 4bby when the reason it didn't appear in the battle of echo base or yavin is because it wasn't developed until the late period of the war just before endor which is why it was such a suckered punch to the empire
@@generalwilhelm6508 well yes I though the empire did suck in rebels.... Its not entirely bad... The clone wars has the same level of plot armor... Except because of its sheer size it can kill people without contributing to the plot.

The intro scene was my favorite part of Rebels.
I really wish this ship had been a hero ship in battlefront, would’ve been great as a sort of “super bomber” to take down ~~adjectives~~ objectives.
That would be awesome, but what about adverbs? They would still be a problem.

The X-Wing could looks like it could be modified to do the same thing the B6 does
well some models have laser cannon sync features, where all the cannons fire at the same time, but this isn't as powerful as superlaser focusing tech on the b-wing and maybe even on the death star.
Hoping to get this ship as DLC in the Star Wars: Squadrons game it my favorite starfighter design in star wars.🤩
@Nurdasake Thing I've always loved about Star Wars is the odd and asymmetrical ship design of many of the their ships.
Tbh it wouldn’t work well. It’s compound laser would make it incredibly broken. It’s also large and heavy shielded with strong weapons. Everyone would main it. What would be it’s counter? The easy guess would be the TIE defender but the defender’s actually extremely better and even Vader said it rivals his Advanced x1. It has extreme shields, speed, and weapons. They would also be the primary main.

@@L-Archange The game has 4 classes; fighter, bomber, support, and interceptor. I thinking they could add a new class; heavy, focused on massive damage, similar to the bomber class but more versatile in flight and they could make weaker in the shield and/or armor areas for the game.
@@christian5146 I searched it up and can't find it. From your description it sounds similar to the TIE brute. It's in Star Wars commander and a deleted scene in Solo.
The Rebels should really have kept the main beam weapon on a few ships. Like a very powerful elite squadron used only for very important missions that requires massive firepower in a short amount of time.
They should, but I can't imagine it was a rare use of the technology because of the amounts of energy drain it caused, not to mention its probably hard to make

I actually didn't know Sabine worked on the factory design of the B-Wing that's cool!
I think it's rather interesting that the composite beam laser was dropped from the full production model. My guess was that it was seen as overkill or far too destructive, especially if they couldn't work out the power source's kinks with the whole "hyperdrive shutting down" thing.
A super-powerful weapon that has major reliability issues isn’t terribly useful. I’m minded of the combat debut of the Panther tank at Kursk, where most of the tanks became mechanical casualties before getting to fire a single shot.

5:02 Actually, there is a fifth. In revenge of the sith, the Venator cruiser fires one massive laser that blasts a banking clan frigate in the same exact manner as this B Wing prototype blasted the imperial corvette. The converging stream is really difficult to notice because it's almost entirely hidden inside the ship, but the apex of the converging cone can be seen if you look closely.
I believe that was a SPHA mounted in the hangar
@@matthewturner5178 I think the beam was too big for a SPHA, unless there is a XXL sized variant I am not aware of, and the angle would require the thing to be hanging upside down from the ceiling of the hangar.
I’m pretty sure it was an idea by Anakin to put an SPHA in the hangar, because of its destructiveness.
Should have built a few with the Composite laser because you will always wants a big stick for some missions. five or six at the Battle of Endor would have really made the fight so much easier.

Personally I know there has been Chiss versions of Imperial ships but I'd love to see a Chiss take on Rebel designs as they tended to always improve on the designs and this was one of my favorite ships.

@@evanhenderson1760 I'd argue the tie defender is pretty equal to the b-wing, it has a hyperdrive and shields like the b-wing and about an equal amount of armaments
@@nikoloso the tie defender was a multi-role starfighter that was faster, more agile, better armed, and generally better in every way than the x-wing.
on the other hand the b-wing was a heavy bomber better armed than the y-wing but had the speed and maneuverability of a drunk freighter
@@evanhenderson1760 it could probably still be balanced to each other in the same way the unshielded imperial fighters are balanced to shielded rebel fighters

What gets me the A wing needed to dock with the Blockade Runner to escape as it jumped to hyperspace. Why can’t a starfighter just “land” on the hull of a larger vessel and piggy back a jump to hyperspace?

I think I have an answer... Shields. If a starfighter has no shields, it may not survive hyperspace. It would possibly be protruding outside the larger vessel’s shields leaving it exposed to ion particles and other random elements at far above light speed.
Because they need to be secured, just riding on the side is a very high risk of just being flung off and at best being dropped in the middle of nowhere, and worst being torn to shedders in the transition to real space . Plus at this point in the show the biggest things Pheonix cell had was there CR90’s.

I like how they take elements from the old star wars RPG and lore (shantipole there were a astroid base where verpines under the eyes of the captain ackbar built the prototype of the B-wing)
This was probably one of the best episodes of Rebels that didn't focus on Jedi/Force stuff. I'm a huge fan of the space combat content in SW so seeing the origins of the B-Wing scratched that itch.
@Dread StarZ there wasn't enough TROS B-Wing content for me to remember that they were in the movie until you just reminded me. To answer your question though, yes. It sounds pretty killer. I had to look the details up since we get nothing on it aside from a few seconds in the movie.

I have no problems with the B-Wing in any form, in fact it was one of my favorite toys of SW growing up in the 80s and 90s regarding SW and I still love it to this day. But honestly, what is your point here? The new B-Wing did nothing other than appear for like 20 seconds in TRoS in the background of a few shots.
Why didn't they use it on the other B wings? They could have installed it on the Resistance B wing but they didn't! Damn it!

I love the B-Wing. It’s a Bad ass fighter, but with some drawbacks. And they aren’t battlefield related, they’re logistics related. It makes me think of the American F-22 Raptor or the German Tiger tank. Both phenomenal machines. But they require(d) so much upkeep they weren’t very practical, at least not for mass production.

Funny how when the Rebels decide to build oversized superweapons there are no weak points and nothing ever goes wrong.
The death star went wrong because Gallen Erso created a flaw in it... Also the B wing is not oversized or a superweapon... Yes it's laser packs a punch... But that laser would only be able to damage a star destroyer still leaving it operational

I prefer the original cannon where Admiral Ackbar made it.
I've always liked combining the two: This was the first successful prototype for the B-Wing, but the final design was built to the specifications and modifications put forth by Admiral Ackbar, because while a bomber with a superlaser is neat, other technical vulnerabilities and energy stability problems demanded that the mass-produced B-Wing have more conventional weaponry and payloads.
Why not both? 🤔

5 things that are known to use the composite beam technology... add 'Drol' of Iego. It's shown during their first escape attempt.
Just imagine if this had come out just a little bit earlier they would have been able to iron out to the problems with the weapon system and the hyperdrive and it would have been map produced as a bit was almost completely unchanged now that that would have been impressive to see swarms of those popping out of hyperspace and then laying waste to small and medium-sized ships
I remeber seeing the Bwing for the firat time in a game on the origional playstaion and you flew it for the intro mission cant rember the name but since then loved the ship
Make sense when you think about why did not keep the prototype as it was, the rebels did not really have the recourse to make ship buster weapons. So numbers were and mass amount of ships were the only way to do it

Yeah definitely should have kept the big gun. Imagine if those Star Fortress bombers from last Jedi had those beam cannons. The dreadnought would have been history and Rose would still have a sister.

the game Battlezone had a Russian bomber shaped like a B-wing, but flipped over it's side.... it was wider than it was long, and the weapon mounts were offset to a side.
if you saw one of those (ONE!) rolling towards you, you had two choices: tank the first shot and pray you eject on time and ride the shockwave out of danger before it blasted you again, or, eject outright and pray the bomber didn't decide to target *you* rather than the wreckage of your tank.
either way, you tank was going kaboom.
At about 9:55, when the TIEs are making their head-on pass against the Falcon, I see a bunch of TIEs 'pop-in'. Weird. Never noticed that before.
I know this isn't normal for you but. I would love you to do video about Samus Aron from metroid in star wars. Like if she would survive and how well she'd do as a bounty hunter
While I can see why they switched to more conventional weapons for the production model, I'm sure it would have been useful to have a squadron or two of these floating around for hard targets.
I wish the composite beam was nerfed a bit, sure its cool for one episode, and adding the hyperdrive issue helped explain why it didnt become common, but it wasnt enough of a nerf it still would have been way too desirable to not appear later on other ships in the rebellion or new republic.
The composite beam makes a useful component in Star Wars Squadrons.

Star wars take on light is always funny. Light won't combine at angles and then go straight ahead but it's fun to look at.
well they also use "laser" as an aesthetic rather than scientific term, to my knowledge all energy weapons in Star Wars are actually blasters (i.e. particle/plasma weapons) even though they're always calling them "laser guns" or "laser blasters"... basically that's what happens when your Fi has a Sci deficiency lol
