Nice presentation, I have made dizzy bowls by making the rings out of 1" boards cutting the rings on a scroll saw then made a jig for my bandsaw and use hot glue to fasten the rings to the jig and slicing each ring 3 to 4 times to get the thin rings needed. This save a lot of time.

But your technique and instructional style finally inspired me to give it a go. Wow, it was so easy, and I had instant success! I can't wait to glue up some nicer pieces of wood and do it again! Thanks for this, I have done the bandsaw method but find it to be a hassle. Tried this tonight with some scraps and my butter knife parting tool and it's like magic. Can't wait to glue up some varied species and make something pretty!
Been using the parting tool to cut the rings on the lathe for quite sometime now. Only way to go. Cutting on the bandsaw tilted works but if you need to clamp the rings it makes it a bit hard. Nice to have a few choices.
Thanks for sharing these techniques! Is there a video where you elaborate on the layout calculations where I see you using the blue paper? I'm trying to use three boards for a taller bowl but I've confused myself a bit juggling wall thickness, board thickness, and angle.
Just wondering---where did you get the thin parting tool? I've been looking to do a bowl from a board but haven't been successful in obtaining the thin parting tool. If it's homemade what was your source for the steel? Thanks

I particularly like your method of setting different cutting angles from one board to get a rounded shape. Used that a few times with good results.

I really don’t remember. I found a small one and ground it down further
