  • I like to call these "wellness" pedicures because my job as a pedicurist is to help the client maintain the health of their feet and correct cosmetic issues.
    Many people, especially elderly sadly suffer from medical conditions like fungal infections, or very thickened nails, in that case I am not able to help them because that is outside of my scope. I refer them to a podiatrist or a foot care specialist.
    Daily care creams/ointments I recommend:

    Update:
    I found a different supplier of my pedicure chair. I got the foot pedal from them and they are fantastic to deal with.

    When my elderly mother was in a rehab facility recovering from Guillain Barre, a pedicurist came in to take care of her feet for her. It was truly a kind service, and it made her so happy!

      That is lovely! I wish that was possible for everyone but sadly it is not. If someone has issues with their toes I recommend maybe getting a professional podologist visit and then caring for the feet daily (proper hygiene, creams and massage which is good for circulation) and maintaining every 2 weeks (shortening, gentle buffing hard skin etc).

    This lady has the same problem I have. The toe next to her big toe is longer than ther big toe. It’s called Morton’s toe, and often runs in families. I find it very difficult to find close-toed shoes that don’t cause a callus to form on the top of the second toe. Since I’ve retired, I wear open-toed sandals and slippers whenever possible. The callus I had for years is now gone.

    I am so glad that you popped up in my feed I am 69 and I have been diagnosed with diabetes 2 years ago and I know that taking care of my feet is very important the sticky part of this is that I have some serious spinal issues and sometimes I can’t do what I know I should be done. Who should I contact for some help

    • @TheSalonLife
      @TheSalonLife  6 місяців тому +1

      Hello Marilyn, I recommend seeing a podiatrist (someone gentle) and then maintaining the nails at home by proper daily hygiene and applying creams and a mini massage to improve circulation and then filing the nails every 2 weeks and buffing hard edges.
      In many cases (I'm not talking about you but in general) mobility can be improved. We lose mobility because we don't put ourselves in certain positions. Working on mobility is extremely important at any age.

      Straight, Medicare, at least, in California, usually is generous with podiatry benefits, especially for seniors with type two diabetes. While, perhaps not a full pedicure, they will clip the nails and provide other services.

    What do you suggest on how to get ride of the corner skin where the mail ends , if someone does not have a drill ? ❤️

    • @TheSalonLife
      @TheSalonLife  5 місяців тому +2

      Using proper creams that soften the skin and prevent the hardening (Kerasal ointment). Rubbing the feet gently with a towel after each shower helps these areas too.
      I will add the creams links to the description box below the video.

    Very interesting video Anna, thank you. Can too much pressure when pushing back the cuticle cause ridges in the nail? Also, are those electronic file systems safe for home use?

    • @TheSalonLife
      @TheSalonLife  6 місяців тому +1

      1) yes. When the skin is pushed too much it can cause horizontal ridges in the nail
      2) no. E-files are professional tools that should only be used with proper hands on training and lots of practice.

    • @libbyannstew8775
      @libbyannstew8775 6 місяців тому

      @@TheSalonLife Ok thank you. When you say horizontal ridges would these be running “north and south” on the nail (i.e., from nail tip to cuticle) or east and west (one side of nail to the other)?

    • @TheSalonLife
      @TheSalonLife  6 місяців тому +4

      No, the side to side. Easy to west :) North and south ridges are not caused by trauma but because the nail matrix is not producing the cells evenly anymore. Comes with age and like with grey hair some people experience them sooner than others

      I’m a firm believer in proper footwear. Many of the foot deformities are caused by shoes that squish the toes and push the foot forward. It’s not because of age per say. It’s how long you have worn uncomfortable shoes.
      My feet improved and my toes are now more straight since I’ve been wearing barefoot shoes for the last couple of years.
      I know that arthritis can mess with the joints but most of the problems can be improved.
      Also foot exercises and massages help. They are not only good for the feet but healthy feet means healthier knees and hips.

    How can I do this myself at home without an electric file? Sorry for too many questions. Thank you

    • @TheSalonLife
      @TheSalonLife  6 місяців тому +6

      Hello Patricia, this is a professional pedicure that I'm showing. So this cannot be done at home the same way. I suggest maybe visiting a trained professional and then maintaining by caring for the feet properly (I should do a video about it), using proper creams and maintaining proper hygiene daily and then doing DIY pedicure at home every 2 weeks by shortening the nails with a file and smoothing hard skin.

    How can I tell if the yellowing is due to trauma or nail fungus?

    • @TheSalonLife
      @TheSalonLife  6 місяців тому +4

      I've been doing pedicures for over 25 years so I usually can tell and if in doubt I send clients to a podiatrist to do a test.
      With fungal infection the nail is more crumbly. Nails like this are more prone to fungal infections but this is not a fungal infection.

    • @TheSalonLife
      @TheSalonLife  6 місяців тому +17

      It's difficult with UA-cam. You have to show what really the video is all about. I can't show nothing because no-one will click and the video and the editing was for nothing and people who look for this kind of educational content will not find me.
      I can't show a different foot because that is not going to be a true representation of what I'm about to show.
      Elderly people do not often have extremely pretty feet but they still need help and pros can benefit greatly from watching these educational videos.
      Showing perfect feet and hands is not realistic and not very helpful.
      I don't make gross or shocking thumbnails for the shock value.
      You can always click that you don't want to see these videos and UA-cam algorithms will remember.

    • @TheSalonLife
      @TheSalonLife  6 місяців тому +5

      Thank you kindly! The clients that allow me to film their services are sometimes self conscious but I always explain that it’s for educational purposes so others can learn from my experience.
      It hurts my heart to see unkind comments and I usually delete them (comments about clients) because that is just totally uncalled for.
      This comment although harsh, makes a very good point and I would like to hear more constructive criticism and feedback from my viewers.
      I myself don’t know what the right route is.

I should probably find a chiropodist or someone who does wellness pedicures (as you call them). I’d imagine they’re used to seeing just about everything with no judgment. Keep up the great work Anna.
