The Wolf of Wall Street is NOT a trading movie. It is a penny stock pump and dump movie that has nothing to do with trading at all. It is a movie about a con man.
finally an other decent man that sees things clearly- pretty few out there, in all tops wolf of wallstreet is recommended as trading..it s not. as you said it s about a conman
Wall Street and the Big Short are tied at 1st Place. Margin Call was fantastic as well. Boiler Room is an eye opener really and was well played. I haven't seen Too Big to Fail or 25th Hour yet.
Very hard to say which was the best movie: they are all different in their approaches and styles, but brilliant in their own ways. Wolf of Wall Street and The Big Short used breaking the fourth wall to great effect and were quite funny at times. But for me, the very simplicity and tension of Margin Call, combined with a real Triple A rated cast, hit it out of the park. The IT security depicted in the movie was completely unrealistic, but the behaviour of all of the characters, their interactions - and the sheer talent of Jeremy Irons - hits it out of the park. And full marks to Jeffrey Chandor - amazing writing and direction.
Most movies on Stock Market are hype/glamour of Money. no good trading movie with a story i,e strategy, plans etc (even if its fictitious story). Only exception is The Big Short (true stock market movie). The Margin Call, The Equity & Wall Street 1&2 - are glamoured with the wins of trading. however I was impressed with first half of "assault on wall street" - shows the downside of Market.
Too big to fail, portrayed Henry Paulson as some kind of hero who was having to rescue the world economy. The real truth is that Paulson, prior to being appointed to the position of Secretary of The Treasury, was CEO of Goldman Sachs and under his leadership GS were heavily into mortgage backed securities and derivatives. So he, in fact, was one of the people responsible for the 2008 financial crisis. He left Goldman to take up the position as Secretary Of The Treasury, and was required to sell his shares in Goldman to comply with conflict of interest regulations. He had over 600 million in shares when he left Goldman. Because of a tax provision passed under G.W. Bush, he wasn't required to pay any tax on those share sales.
If I was in a Wall Street movie my rise was started in 2008 then I went to jail after "To Big To Fell" get out with no money after 2012 then started a new company!
The big short is authentic and brilliant
yep, one of the only movies about real finance and trading
Margin call !! Brilliant

Basically, TWOWS is a version of Boiler Room from the con man's viewpoint. I hated every character in TWOWS (except his first wife).

The Margin Call glamorizes the wins of trading? Isn't the entire movie about an impending huge crash?
Other People's Money was a really solid movie as well as being pretty authentic on how speculators operate.
Margin Call is my favorite
Big short and wolf or wall street are also very good
So right the first Wall Street was the best
Good list but Margin Call and The Big Short are easily numbers 1 and 2.
Yeah
Wall Street money never sleeps was one of the worst films considering how good the original was

Margin call underrated. Boiler room over rated. There is no comparison from an acting point of view.
Nice list. The Wolf of Wall Street, The Big Short and Trading Places over everything.
