Astral Ascent is a 2D platformer rogue-lite game set in a modern fantasy world. As one of 4 Heroes with very different personalities, you must escape from the Garden, an astral prison guarded by 12 powerful and vicious bosses, the Zodiacs.
Unlock dozens of unique spells for your 4 distinct characters. Optimize your own build or try out new ones to take down 12 powerful bosses. Get stronger with time to match up with your foes. Each run will test your skills and your reactivity.

I really feel you on the lack of action roguelites other than Astral Ascent, especially in terms of the actual mechanics. Almost all of them are not even pushing 10% of the mechanics of games like DMC or Nioh, even though build-based roguelikes offer the perfect way to teach players complex action mechanics over time. The really mechanics-light approach also seems to be the reason that more action roguelikes are relying on metaprogression to stop players from winning their first run, instead of having a high enough skill cap where maybe 5% of players can win their first run but the other 95% fail naturally (instead of dying from having reduced stats).
Here’s to hoping we get a series!
I can promise I have 1 more recorded for sure checking out the other unlocked character. Whether or not I play more is entirely dependent on these video's performance.
@@Retromation you got me into this game when you first played it in early access a couple years ago. The game has gotten so much better!
The voice acting and atmosphere alone is worth a stroll through this world. I'd love to see how much variety there is to another character and future runs

Love this really cool game. Also: the Freeze-dmg boost by 2% was per stack of freeze, so even with one enemy, it can go up quite high ;). I love your content and wish you an nice cristmas time =). keep it up!!

Enter the Gungeon is a fantastic first choice, if you can stick with it and get the hang of it you're going to be more well equipped than if you started with another. Hope you keep at it!
I'd love to see more of this, it's a fantastic game and some of the later stuff gets WILD.

The character designs and the world art are amazing
not a fan of the sprite tbh but their arts and combat animation make up for it

You definitely do get used to way the spell cycling works, it also shows the icon of your next spell over your characters head after you cast one which helps you decide how to position yourself for it
Im glad you got around to this one. Really solid even if it wears its inspiration a little heavily on its sleeve.
This game is amazing man.
The game also needs a few runs to truly open up as you can't even access all meta progress right away. It's still a great game, I've been taking a break from it, but it gets even better after beating the Master the first time.

I watched this just to see how the English VA was, it's not bad but HOOOOLYYY is the Japanese VA so much better! Voices fit much better imo and I'm the type to watch English dub on the rare occasion I watch anime lol
