this seems similar to One Step From Eden in a lot of ways. The spells being the main source of combat and being forced to cycle through all of them, the gorgeous flowy pixel art, in depth tutorials on core mechanics and previews of spell but still being left to figure out a run on your own.

It's a jump, sure, but I had seen a few people praise this game before. I bought it after I watched this video and hell, even the intro is telling me I'm gonna have a good time. It was the part on the bosses that did it, they look frankly crazy as hell, especially for a sidescroller roguelite, excited to fight my first, 10/10 video, once again.
Everything looks great - but with all of those animations stacking up i could see enemy attack readability being a real issue. I'm curious if there's some accessability settings for that like Dead Cells allowing you to change size of the ! mark
The only gameplay option I've seen is being able to turn off screen shake. Could be worth suggesting to the devs. I will say the character outline is a must for me, as I do lose track of myself otherwise.
I don't know if it's just the video, but damn there's so much screen pollution that it's difficult to distinguish between an enemy attack and your spell. Indeed there may be red light warnings to be wary of an enemy attack, but for me watching visual cues on the enemies' portraits and listening for sound cues would be a much better indicator. Instead playing the game would be like, "keep mashing buttons and spells then wait for the red warning indicator to dodge".
You earned a subscription from me, and Astral Ascent will get my money. I am a huge fan of wizard games, and I haven't seen one that looked this good since Wizard of Legend.

I just pick this almost blinded and OMG is totally a 10/10 roguelite for me!! And i played like 6 this year (one of them Risk of rain 2, wich is also a blast, but Astral Ascent got me totally off guard!!)

It's so hard in general to keep up with all of the amazing indie games that come out. It's both a blessing to have so many games to play and a curse to not have the time to play them all.
What's the accessibility settings like? Dead Cells has extensive accessibility options that take it from looking good to actually being playable for me (I struggle with all the information on screen, if it wasn't for stuff like the Longer Parry Windows i wouldn't be able to play it at all), they're pretty essential what is this one like?

Just picked it up for $1.50 Cena review on steam that had 500 hours on it I could not pass that up watching video tutorials on just basic information now as I eat in about to get into this I'm so amped.
Idk what my problem is, brothers and sisters of roguelike lover'sville, but I just cannot get consistently passed the first biome of this game and I'm usually pretty decent at these games as it's my favorite genre by far.. why am I hitting this wall so early while every single person I see is flying around just wrecking lategame areas like it's stupid easy?? Please any meaningful advice besides "gitgud"?
I would say to focus on doing exploration rooms (particularly ones that reward auras at the start) as much as possible to up your chances of early spell drops to replace your starting spells, and make sure you have at least 3-5 keys on you at all times (every exploration room will have one upgrade altar. Ideally you want to always purchase the upgrades that cost 5 keys as these are always more cost efficient, but the 3 key ones are better than nothing). So don’t make the early mistake I did and do way too many fight rooms than is necessary. Make sure to claim Sun points from Sire Bapy for any challenges/achievements you’re completing to buy upgrades from Zim Zim, especially max health. Try your hand at practicing with Kiran as his signature spell counters any and instances of damage in the game. It’s a very forgiving window for the parry to activate to the point that it’s practically a free damage negation every 13 seconds. For me personally I ran with Kiran until I got better at dodging. Speaking of dodging, abuse the fuck out of your dodge. Don’t be afraid to abuse its i-frames to phase through attacks, particularly outside of boss fights where enemies gang up on you with multiple hitboxes. My natural instinct at first was to try to simply move out of the way of most attacks, but realized you kinda have to do a healthy amount of both to avoid most of the damage in this game.
Not gonna lie, this spell system looks a little too complex for me, as does the game as a whole. But I'll be sure to give it a shot after this amazing video
It’s much more intuitive in practice than it sounds on paper. It’s a bit daunting at first but will become second-nature to you with a little but of time!
I love side scrollers, however the market is over saturated with them. I'm still enjoying dead cells, mummy demastered, Shing and several others. I wish that they gave 3D options or something.
gonna get this but the art style really puts me off. They should've put a bit more detail on the characters it would go a long way sales wise imo everything else looks polished.

Unfortunately, this one only has the ability to alter the screen shake. It’s one department I think they could improve upon.
