- This experiment is a bit different than my cleaning product testing! After posting my first Essential Oil Video, I received some requests to repeat it using Frankincense, Lavender, Oregano, and Thyme. I swab my kitchen sink and toilet bowl and place the bacteria on Petri dishes, next I place drops of the essential oils on the dishes and incubate to see which essential oils will inhibit the growth of bacteria on the Petri dishes.

I grew up getting drops of Lavender essential oil in every skin cut. Today, working as a chef, that's the only thing I use if I ever get cut.
I use lavender on my skin as well, especially for burns.
I noticed that the active ingredient in the Seventh Generation Disinfecting Wipes that you tested previously was a thyme derived product, so I'm not surprised the thyme had some cool results here! It was neat to see an example of a cleaning application of them through that Seventh Generation video. Would definitely be interested in seeing how the thyme and oregano oils work (probably at different concentrations) in a cleaning application, as opposed to the direct application in the petri dishes. Very cool! Love the content!
YES! 7th Generation and Clean Boss both have thyme derivative! I have been searching for a recipe for the oils to dilute into a cleaning spray... but haven't been lucky in finding any. Do you have a particular recipe or dilution that you use for essential oils for cleaning?? The closest I got to testing EOs as a cleaner is the OnGuard .. Thyme (thymol) is the first natural non-toxic cleaner to be approved by the EPA for commercial kitchens. it has been approved in Canada for sometime. Commercially i use Benefect. For home use i use Seven Generation w/ thymol spray. I also add the thyme & oregano drops to my vinegar/dish soap cleanser and hand soap. I agree you should make a DIY spay w the thyme and oregano oil!

It would be good to find out how much oregano is absorbed into the bloodstream and how fast it is metabolized/excreted (half life)
I have seen experiments where in petri dish oil of oregano is far superior as an antibacterial than the antibiotic amoxicillin which gives it amazing potential in the treatment of bacterial infections.
But we don't know if it makes it into the bloodstream enough to work for oral administration. My guess is that it would work, but it would be good if it was studied more in this area.
Dosage would have to be calculated based on this. What I have read is that 2-3 drops of oregano oil shaken with water before ingestion seems sensible, but without a study of this its impossible to know for sure. Also without a study its unclear if the oregano antimicrobial chemical components can make it into spinal/cerebral fluid to tackle harder to treat deeper neurological bacterial/fungal/parasitical infections.
If anyone knows a study of this type please reply here and let me know.

Im curious how effective the oregano would have been by itself. Could the thyme be so effective that it was the main culprit in inhibiting the growth of bacteria all the way to the oreganos side?
And how well would thyme work if diluted in water as a spray disinfectant?

What about old fashion classic Listerine Mouthwash as a surcae cleaner? It has thymol.
Haven't tested that yet, but have had good luck with products with Thymol!
Great video. Lavender is amazing! I would never think frankincense would help anything. Lavender greatly my fire burns and my wounds much faster than typical medical. ❤🔥 Wow on Tyme. I never knew. Why did you not. test tea tree oil? I think both Lavender and tea tree do help, thy are my go to. I am going to get tyme. ... oregano.. Ifs hard for me to smell. Lavender is an antiseptic and a naturopathic doctor put in on a fire burn. Since I was in love.

Oregano oil in water, that has at least 80% Carvacrol, is quite effective in helping the body get rid of germs. Swallow it down quickly and throw in some of that dreaded chocolate as a chaser to clear out that nuclear burn! Works FAB!

I even did a quick search, but could not find an answer (I didn’t spend a lot of time on searching though). Thank you for these videos! I try to find natural ways to clean my home because I react to a lot of the popular cleaners. So I have to make my own cleaners which used to be frustrating, but your videos make it easier to know what works and what doesn’t. Thyme and oregano EO is literally on the top of my grocery list to use instead of the GSE (since we now know it does nothing).

Yeah! I was super impressed by 7th Generation! But I actually use peroxide wipes to clean my bathroom (inspired by your tests on peroxide as a cleaner). I think my hubby said they’re like $3 per container, so it may even be cheaper. If I’m wrong about the price though, I may switch!

I wonder ayt what rate of dilution the thyme and oregano lose effectiveness. How do we know that commercial products containing essential oils are dilated to the right percentage?
I have tested a few products that have thymol as their active ingredient. The only way I know if they work is after I test them!
You may just have saved my life. I'll try these oils going forward, that is the oregano and thyme oil. I've been struggling with chronic UTI's for 7 years now with no respite. I've been on ciprofloxacin orally and intravenously more times than I cam count.
I just hope it doesnt spread to my kidneys at this rate. Can you recommend the brand for the oils you use and if there's a recommended method and dosage for ingesting.
Sorry to hear about your chronic UTIs. That must be so difficult. I have doterra oils, but I don't have recommendations for internal dosing. I am guessing you have already tried Cystex Urinary Health Maintenance Cranberry Prebiotic for UTI Protection?

This supports our nasal rinse.
At the first sign of sniffles we rinse sinuses with oregano oil & GSE.
At worst, it mitigates the negative symptoms. At best, we avoid a cold or infection all together. 👌

I’ve started spraying my sinks, toilet, and bathtub with vinegar every night before going to bed, just for maintenance in between cleanings. But I was really surprised at how well the 50/50 vinegar and soap solution worked! I always thought since vinegar was acidic and soap was basic that they would cancel each other out. 🤯
Question, since essential oils are almost always diluted for any purpose, how would the efficacy be when they’re diluted?

@FieldOfFocus persistent lyme can't be helped with antibiotics certain oils are thr only thing that can't kill lyme in remission or hiding in biofilm.
Cryptolepis is the best one but hard to find.
Oregano oil, Japanese knotweed, garlic oil, black walnut, cats claw, and a couple of other herbs are the best

what i notice in the toilet bowl test is the left side of the oregano has no growth, perhaps the thyme is so powerful its pushing right over to the oregano side? it always seem to lean more on the thyme side being empty compared to he oregano side.

Which frankincense did you use? There are three main varieties. I use Boswellia Sacra. Could you test to see if there is a difference among the different varieties?
On the brand's site it says Boswellia sacra. On the bottle just says Boswellia.

Is there such a thing as testing on the bodies good bacteria? Or only bad bacteria from a surface? Have you swabbed the bacteria from the body? Mouth? Arm pits? Bikini area? Bellie button? The body’s “bits”?
For now when I am doing testing, I am not identifying the bacteria. I have not swabbed the body yet but it might be an interesting test!! Thanks for the suggestion!

Hello! Unfortunately I do not have any fungus to test. Since I am not a lab and just use bacteria from surfaces in my home, I don't have access to fungus. I am sorry. I do have a friend who had an aggressive fungus and she used Tea Tree (Melaleuca ) diluted with coconut oil. Good luck!!
